It's time to wrap up 2023 in Episode 621 with a great conversation with an excellent up-and-coming comics creator, Olivia Cuartero-Briggs! Olivia is an award-winning dramatic writer, fitness junky, and girl mom, born and raised in New York City. She's also the author of Mary Shelley Monster Hunter and Silver City with Aftershock Comics as well as the upcoming Fate: The Winx Saga graphic novel series from Maverick. Jill and the Killers is her groundbreaking new series debuting with Oni Press in January, and it's described this way: “Returning to school after the unsolved disappearance of her mother, teenager Jill Estrada can't wait for things to return to normal . . . even as her friends become compulsively obsessed with Box Killers, a true-crime subscription game where each month's ‘unsolved case' is custom-tailored to the life of its player. There's only one catch: Jill's game seems to be all too real . . . and when her clues begin to connect to a series of disappearances in her town, Jill and her friends must uncover the truth behind these mysterious crimes before one of their own becomes the next victim.” We talk about how this book came to be, who the characters are, and what we can expect from Olivia in the coming months! It's a fun discussion, just a perfect way to wrap up 2023! Be sure to let your local comics shop know you want this high-octane title today! Be back next week as we kick off 2024!

Here is what we shall do. We shall take hundreds of our soldiers, most of them borrowed from a smash and grab that occurred hundreds of years ago. We will paint them as True Warriors. We shall put them behind enemy lines and ask them to help conquer themselves. We shall call this Valour. Then, when it all goes tits up, we shall pretend it never happened. "Ach, I've seen worse up the shore road on a Saturday night, sir. That's no word of a lie."

How long has this wealth of different kinds of stories been in the works? How has the fan response been for Predator? How great is it to get this out after the delay? The Predator's cinematic adventures have so far taken place in the present and the past. Was it always the plan to take your series to the future? One of the fun things about the Predators is that we still know so little about them. Was that ambiguity something you loved playing with from your main character's POV?Batman Inc. drops Ghost-Maker into a detective story! How does Ghost-Maker approach a mystery differently from Batman? With Deathstroke Inc. was there any trepidation in going with the “Year One” moniker? Was there a challenge in pulling back some of Slade's ability and giving us a greener Deathstroke?I've enjoyed the pacing of There's Something Wrong with Patrick todd, especially that opening page to issue one. What went into crafting this superhero tale that feels inverted, as if the powers are not at the surface of the story?I gotta ask, was this always the title for this book? Whenever I see a long title I think “The SEO!”When working with so many different artists with different skills, do you find the writing process different? You're writing so many characters now, and have written so many characters like fan-favorite Glob, at this moment in time do you have a favorite?Ed you're a busy guy, do you have other projects you'd like to talk about today?Superfight! Deathstroke vs Predator - Who would be better at Twitter?

Summary Janosh Neumann (LinkedIn; Website) joins Andrew (Twitter; LinkedIn) to discuss life in the FSB. He was born in the Soviet Union to parents in the “business.” What You'll Learn Intelligence Why Jan defected to the United States How you get recruited and trained as a Russian intelligence officer What it is like to recruit and run agents in Moscow His take on what he did for the Russian state Reflections Learn to connect with anybody Making a life-changing and potentially life-ending decision And much, much more… Episode Notes Have you ever wondered how a Russian intelligence officer is trained? Ever wondered what it would be like to be a defector? Ever wondered what it'd be like to be given three choices, shoot yourself, get shot, or go on the run? If so, you'll enjoy this week's episode with Jan Neumann, who was born Alexy Yurievich Artamonov in the former Soviet Union. Jan's father was a KGB internal affairs officer, and he would go on to join one of its successors, the FSB, or Federal Security Service, in which his wife also served. He speaks about a number of projects he is involved in, here in the States, where he now resides. And… Jan is the Co-Founder of RealSpyComics, which will be the first independent comic publisher dedicated to telling true intelligence stories. The International Spy Museum is a partner on this venture, because if there is one thing, we have a lot of – its spy stories! Quote of the Week "I'm not a big fan of ballet, but one of my sources was a big ballet fan. So, I had to go to the Bolshoi Theater, watch this again, and again, and again, I had to do some learning to be able to talk to the guy. And same thing was happening with the art as well. so going to some galleries and talk to the people, be sure that they're using at least same terminology as they are, to be able in the future to support the conversation, be interesting to this person whom you're trying to approach." – Janosh Neumann Resources Headline Resources Russian Spy, American Defector: with Janosh Neumann, YouTube, 2020 “Almost American, 1-5,” Aftershock Comics (2021-22) Andrew's Recommendation Russian Intelligence, K.
