There's lots of discussion around whether experiences like childhood trauma may be linked to ADHD. Some experts suggest that ADHD may be a coping mechanism developed in response to a trauma, or even that early trauma might trigger ADHD. Others, however, believe that while trauma can intensify ADHD symptoms, it can't cause it. Sam and Katie speak to Dr Max Davie, paediatrician and co-founder of ADHD UK to find out more.Sam and Katie will be back on Wednesday for the bonus episode of You're Wrong About ADHD. You can get in touch with the team by sending your questions and stories to ADHDpodcast@global.com. Ben speaks to Max Davie about what we can do at these times.
As schools across the UK close today for the foreseeable future, it's an uncertain time for millions of children and young people as they lose the structure of a regular school day. Many, particularly younger children, will also be anxious and concerned about the virus. So how can parents talk to their children about what's happening - and what can you do to help them cope with not being at school for the next few months? ITV News Health Correspondent Emily Morgan and ITV News Science Editor Tom Clarke talk to Dr Max Davie, the officer for health improvement at Royal College of Paedatrics and Child Health, for some advice.Subscribe to be notified of new episodes - we'll be regularly releasing new episodes answering key topics around the pandemic. We have some very good family cooperative games for you this week. The first is My First Castle Panic (3:45), the adaptation of Castle Panic that is excellent for your three year old! For the older kids, we share next about Zoo Break (7:21), a family game about recapturing escaping zoo animals with some excellent moments of thematic integration? Finally, we get to one of the big releases from early 2019 - Comanauts (16:04). For our discussion topic, we're revisiting a conversation Jason had with Dr. Max Davie, a specialist in child psychology, that was posted on the Dice Tower main YouTube channel a few months ago. We chat about how to use games to help kids heal, how to adjust games so that we can get them gaing with us as adults, and other aspects of gaming with kids. Neurodevelopmental disorders are a neglected area of mental health practice, little mentioned in recent government policy documents. The evidence base is strong in theory but often hard to put into practice at the front line. Unhelpful misunderstandings and prejudices persist both in the general population and in professionals. Dr. Max Davie talks about this and how you can get involved in [ACAMH's Neurodevelopmental Special Interest Group.](https://www.acamh.org/sig/neurodevelopmental-sig/)
Ben and compound doctor, Max Davie, talk past politics and what is the greatest value you get from gaming.
Mike and Dan are joined by Max Davie to talk about board gaming and charity, setting up kids games clubs, and all the reasons to be grumpy about Christmas.
Mike and Dan discuss cars, petty crime, the French, and The Reckoners. They are then joined by the magnificent Max Davie from Games4Families who talks about making homemade board games for fun not profit. Sleep difficulties are common in children and adolescents, especially in some high-risk groups, such as young people with neurodevelopmental conditions or mental health problems. Clinicians working in paediatric or child mental health settings need an understanding of sleep disorders as it is important to know how sleep disturbance impacts on a young person’s physical and cognitive development, and mental health. At our recent Sleep and Mental Health Conference, we caught up with the speakers, Dr Michael Farquhar, Dr Jenna Vyas-Lee, Dr Max Davie and Dr Sally Hobson to discuss the relationship between sleep, behaviour and mental health, as well as some insights into assessment, management and barriers to interventions.
