Guest Malvika Sharan Panelist Richard Littauer Show Notes In this episode, host Richard has a conversation with guest Malvika Sharan, a senior research associate and open source community manager at The Turing Way. Malvika gives fascinating insights into the journey and rationale behind The Turing Way, which is a data science guide and community collaborative project, seeking to make data science more open, accessible, and inclusive. The Turing Way is also much more than its curated guides, serving as a space for enthusiasts to exchange ideas and contribute to the project. Richard and Malvika dig deep into the importance of effective recognition for contributions, Malvika's commitment to financial compensation within the constraints of the system, along with the persistence of volunteerism in open source work. Amid her busy year, Malvika is preparing for this chapter of The Turing Way's journey to enter an exciting 2024 and 2025 phase as they look to engage more directly with organizations that haven't yet adopted open source collaborative practices advocated by The Turing Way. [00:12:15] The concept of “emergent strategy” from the book by Adrienne Maree Brown is explained as an influence on the community aspect of The Turing Way. [00:13:13] Richard inquires about the sustainability of The Turing Way as an open source project and its funding and staff structure. Malvika explains that it's funded by the Alan Turing Institute and discusses the Institute's support and staff dedicated to the project, including a new project manager. [00:16:16] Richard asks how The Turing Way collects feedback and demonstrates its impact on sustainability for projects that use it. Malvika shares experiences of community members using The Turing Way to influence their organizations and mentions collaborations like The Environmental Data Science book project. [00:18:03] Malvika talks about how she launched The Turing Way Practitioners Hub to gather and share evidence. [00:19:42] Richard questions what it means to adopt The Turing Way, and Malvika clarifies that it refers to adopting the practices of open and collaborative data science. [00:20:16] They address the breadth versus depth of The Turing Way's content and the idea of creating sector-specific resources. [00:24:00] Malvika speaks about outreach through talks and workshops, and highlights the diversity of narratives within The Turing Way community, such as activism for [00:26:20] Richard notices the lack of Welsh language resources in The Turing Way and wonders why it's not included. As a classical dancer, studying body movements and expressions fascinated her. She enjoyed narrating storybooks to her friends and exploring their anticipation. Without school career counselling, she followed the tide and pursued engineering while also freelancing as an artist. Though late to the game, she hoped to learn Animation after graduation. Due to a personal tragedy and the Pandemic closing down on resources, she worked as an Engineer for one and a half years while honing her drawing skills after work hours. This is Episode 54 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! From feeling out of place because of her weight, to losing it unhealthily and the struggles of finding her place. To chasing her passion in fashion with her blog Style by Malvika. In middle school she had gained a little weight, and was considered on the heavier side. This led to bullying from her peers, and unhealthy weight loss habits later on in life. She was trying to lose weight to look like everyone else, which led to her not eating and fainting on multiple occasions. Her struggles to figure out who she was and how to express herself, especially when it came to fashion would continue for years. Then she decided to begin doing something she had done in the past, start a blog and it felt like she’d finally found some direction. As things progressed and she started to grow a following, her blog was hacked and it felt like everything was about to come crashing down. TAA #006: Malvika Iyer: From bomb blast survivor to disability rights activistDuring a recent visit to India, a friend of mine mentioned Malvika Iyer. A bomb blast survivor in her teens, Malvika is now a well-known motivational speaker and disability rights activist. He offered to introduce me to her and shortly afterward I had the pleasure to get to know her during a phone interview. Right from the moment our Skype connection was live, I felt that Malvika is someone with an immense spirit and an almost unbreakable will. Here is her inspirational story.https://www.theactiveamputee.org/2017/05/17/from-bomb-blast-survivor-to-disability-rights-activist/The music - as always - is Urbana-Metronica (wooh-yeah mix) by spinningmerkaba (c) copyright 2011 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/jlbrock44/33345 Ft: Morusque, Jeris, CSoul, Alex BerozaTo learn more about The Active Amputee, check out the following linksThe Active Amputee BlogThe Active Amputee on InstagramThe Active Amputee on YouTubeThe Active Amputee on TwitterThe Active Amputee on LinkedInThe Active Amputee on Pinterest

Hi this is Malvika and in this series called Dressing Room, we take a look at MS Dhoni’s career. It will be interesting to see what M S Dhoni’s resting heart rate would be. The man never seems to lose his cool. His team mates have said that even when the Indian team was going through its miserable tours of England and Australia in 2011, Dhoni was a picture of cool and never lashed out as captain on any of them. But don’t be fooled, just because he is cool all the time, doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. Listen on..

Not an easy task… because Flavors has 600 people across 21 countries. Business turnarounds have been compared to changing the tires on a car that’s speeding down the highway at 70 mph. Malvika’s experience at Danaher & CareerBuilder, and her Kellogg MBA, prepared her for the task. In this 20-minute conversation, Malvika reveals how to tackle the people part of a turnaround.

This week, we’re delighted to bring you one the most inspiring stories you will hear on this podcast. Our guest Malvika Iyer was just 13 when a grenade blast in her own bedroom in Bikaner almost killed her. She immediately lost both her hands, her feet were completely disfigured, she suffered from 80% blood loss, and her BP was zero. Doctors were not sure if she’d survive and once she survived, they weren’t sure if she’d ever walk again in her life. 18 months later, Malvika bagged a State rank for her 10 board exams that she only prepared for three months. A little over a decade later, she walked the ramp as a show stopper for a fashion show, and just a few months ago, she was awarded her PHD and the prestigious Nari Puraskar award on Women’s Day.
