My friend Megan Carranza joins us today to talk about her podcast, Adventures In Autism. Megan started AiA in 2017 after her son Logan received an autism diagnosis at age 4. At the time, Megan couldn't find any podcasts that weren't hosted by doctors or therapists. Those were of course invaluable, but she wanted a community of parents just like her. So she created one herself. Megan is amazing, and she is also the younger sister of my friend Melissa, who you may remember from IG stories and $2 Thursdays as my brave and wonderful friend who was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2020. We get an update on her as well!!And of course, because this IS Gee Thanks and Megan IS an esthetician, she brought skincare recs in the form of an exfoliant and a lash serum that she swears is a game changer. As Megan mentioned, her podcast is not just for people with autism or people who love people with autism. It's for everyone, and it's a great learning tool especially if you are looking to learn more about autism or help your kids learn more about their friends or classmates who have autism or who are autistic (however they identify!). “We can always use more allies,” Megan said.PRODUCTS MENTIONED: Listen to Megan's pod, Adventures in Autism: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/adventures-in-autism/id1436728566 and follow her on Insta: https://www.instagram.com/adventuresinautismpod/Peter Thomas Roth exfoliant: https://rstyle.me/+v1RioMbsdhwH5JHKM6IvaQ Lash Serum: https://amzn.to/3gMBlN3 Gee Thanks! is powered by subscribers like you! Daniele, my dear friend from IG account @lifeonthefoxstrum, got sober when a friend voiced concerns about her drinking. Since that day, she has not looked back and I have had the pleasure of becoming close friends with her myself! Daniele and I met because she listened to an episode I was in on podcast called Adventures In Autism with Megan Carranza. I spoke mostly about being an autism mom but I briefly mentioned at the end of the episode how grateful I was to have gotten sober as it made me a more present mother. Daniele identified and then joined a zoom group I started that meets every Tuesday called Sober Autism Parent Community and you can find out more about this unique group on Instagram. On this episode Daniele shares about how getting sober has changed her life in many positive ways and how she is so grateful she can be a more present mom to her 3 year old son Xander, who is on the Autism Spectrum. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sobergratitudes/message

So, this week I intended to put out a different podcast episode, but it just didn’t feel right. There are so many things going on in our world right now that it felt like it was important to address what is happening. The two big controversial topics that are discussed in this episode are the racism and injustice surrounding the story of George Floyd, and the sad and controversial story of the youtuber, Myka Stauffer. My friend and advocate Megan Carranza from the Adventures in Autism Podcast is joining me for this raw and real conversation about these difficult and uncomfortable topics. We get on our mics, without any preparation, and we just talk about it. Listen and let us know your thoughts! We never forget our child's first cry, first smile or the first time they start walking. Those are the milestones we dream of when picturing our future children. But we also never forget the first time we look at our child and wonder if we should be concerned with their development. Today I am talking to Megan Carranza from Adventure In Autism Podcast. She shares what it was like to receive an autism diagnosis for her son Logan, how it affected her marriage, what it was like to add 2 more beautiful children into her family after Logan, and how she was able to make peace with autism. Her story is one of those that makes you nod your head and feel like she's taking the words right out of your mouth. I am honored to talk to Megan and so excited for you to join our conversation. EPISODE 14: This month is Autism Awareness month, and if you ask any autism advocate what this means they will very quickly remind you that advocacy takes place every day, every month, not just the month of April. Family members, friends, professionals, educators, and autistic adults and youth want to make their voices stronger. We want to promote a culture of inclusion and respect, improve community resources, and we want make sure that all receive an equal opportunity in school and at work. This isn’t an easy task, and takes more than one individual and one organization. It takes us all. On today’s episode, we’re speaking with Megan Carranza who is a mother, podcast host and autism advocate. After Megan’s oldest child, Logan, was diagnosed with autism in March of 2017, she became a mom on a mission to spread the message of awareness, acceptance and inclusion. Megan, just like many of us, saw a need for more support within the autism community and launched her podcast, “Adventures in Autism”. The purpose of the podcast is to create a safe and supportive space for families and individuals affected by autism to come together and share their journeys. Since this is a similar mission of My Autism Tribe, we thought it would be a perfect fit for a conversation! ……………. CONCLUSION: The My Autism Tribe podcast was started with a simple mission of making one voice stronger. It has very quickly grown to not only a podcast, but a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. To say that we’re excited about the growth, would be an understatement. Our voices are getting stronger, and with the continued push from all autism advocates, we ARE and WILL CONTINUE to make an impact. Thanks so much for joining My Autism Tribe…this month and ALWAYS.
It is Autism Awareness Month and Elizabeth is highlighting it this episode and answering your questions. She brings on Megan Carranza, who has a six year old son with autism. Megan is a huge advocate and is a wealth of information for parents with kids with autism. 1 in 59 children in the USA have autism yet we aren't taught what signs to look for. Megan opens up the conversation and is so leaves us informed and inspired!
