What's better than throwing a Harry Potter-themed birthday party? How about taking your child on a real Harry Potter adventure across Scotland and London! That's exactly what Megan did for her daughter's 10th birthday—making the magic come alive with points and miles. In this episode, Megan explains how she made this trip happen for her family of five—and how using points made it more affordable than a trip to Universal Studios! Flying to Scotland on Points Megan and her family started their journey with flights on KLM Flying Blue, taking advantage of the 25% discount for kids under 12. Because they were able to book five economy tickets for just 85,000 points plus taxes/fees, they were able to splurge some on an upgrade to premium economy at check-in. Add in Priority Pass lounge access during their layover (thanks, credit card benefits!) and the whole experience got even better. Exploring Scotland: The Highlands & Harry Potter Locations After landing in Edinburgh, Megan and her family hit the road to explore Scotland's most famous sights—including key Harry Potter filming locations at Glencoe, Glenfinnan Viaduct, and Loch Shiel. From Scotland to London: Train Travel & Harry Potter Studio Tour After road-tripping through Scotland, the family took the train from Edinburgh to London, booking first-class seats for extra space and lounge access. London's Harry Potter Activities! Megan's family visited: King's Cross Station (Platform 9 ¾) – A must for any fan. Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour – The ultimate experience, where her daughter got to open the doors to the Hogwarts Great Hall because it was her birthday! They spent over five hours exploring movie sets, props, and magical effects. London on Points: Hyatt Regency Blackfriars & The Cursed Child Play For accommodations, used Hyatt points and the Hyatt Family Plan Rate, getting four nights at the Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars for: ✅ 77,000 points for one room ✅ $700 total for the second room The hotel's location meant Megan's family got free wristbands allowing access to the prime areas for watching New Year's Eve fireworks over Big Ben and the London Eye! To top off their trip, they saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child—a six-hour theater experience that still had the kids completely engaged. Find out what blew Megan away and why going to the play in London is worth traveling for. Meet Megan, mom to 6-year-old Aurelia and 19-month-old Leonardo Iztali from Denver, Colorado. We connected with Megan via another DIAH mom, Marissa (whom we interviewed a few weeks before). Megan had sent a banner to Marissa to decorate her home in preparation for home birth. The same banner has made its way to other mamas since then, and Megan plans to continue to send it to friends as they want it. Besides supporting other women in their home birth journeys, Megan has an amazing story of her own. After having a great experience with her first birth in a birthing center, she felt inspired to move into home birth for the next time around. She says she felt empowered and knew a home birth was the next step. In between Aurelia and Leonardo, Megan experienced a miscarriage at 10 weeks. Megan shares openly on the fear and guilt that crept in during that time, and how she embarked on a journey of forgiveness, back to grace, comfort and love. By the time she was pregnant with Leonardo, Megan felt in full trust of her body, her baby and herself. She listened to the flow and went the whole pregnancy and birth almost completely unassisted. She did yoga, meditated, read, watched home births, created affirmations and playlists -- all to create the sacred space for her birth. Megan is a total inspiration. Meet Megan, also known as The Savage Meglet. Megan is a force to be reckoned with, known for her grit, determination, resilience, and perseverance. As a lifelong athlete playing two Division 1 sports, field hockey and track, Megan had her sights set on her next athletic pursuit - a calm 80mph sled ride experiencing 5Gs of force going head first with her chin off the ice, representing Team USA and the Army World Class Athlete Program for over a decade. However, Megan's dreams were put on hold when she was diagnosed with life-threatening blood clots and was told she'd never be an athlete again. But instead of giving up, Megan chose to tell a different story. She battled back to become a multiple World Championship team member, a 2x Track Record Holder, and ranked as high as 8th in the world. She was also the fastest pusher in the United States and #1 in the United States for many years and a 2022 Olympic Alternate. Now, Megan is pursuing sport psychology, where she helps athletes harness their inner power by changing the story they tell themselves and harnessing the power of consistency and habits. Megan is a true inspiration to all who know her, and her story serves as a reminder that anything is possible with hard work, self belief and determination. This week we talk to Megan Starshak! Megan was diagnosed with UC in high school and, while it compromised her ability to do some of her favorite activities for a while, it didn't prevent her from finding new ways to enjoy her life and even led to her meeting some new people affected by IBD. Megan has devoted much of her life to helping other people with IBD share their story, feel connected, and to feel a sense of community. She is one of the founders of the nonprofit The Great Bowel Movement and it's mission is to "foster conversations surrounding the complexities and realities of IBD, fueled by an empowered, active community of patients and caregivers like you." They started by selling cool, awareness-building shirts but it has grown to so much more. We talk to Megan about her motivation to start her nonprofit, running and cycling and the communities she's built through those activities, how animals can be really important sources of support and motivation, her role developing and facilitating the Leader In Training program at a camp for kids with IBD, her struggles with insurance even thought she's in remission, and so much more. Meet Megan… She has severe diminished ovarian reserve (only makes 1-2 eggs on stimulation drugs), has severe endometriosis (two laparoscopy surgeries) and was told it would be impossible for her to have a child with her own eggs. She was at the most famous clinic in the USA with an exceptional doctor and was brave enough to leave there (and trust me) to go to a different, less known, doctor. Megan and I get real really fast as she opens up about how her physical body was responding due to a lack of space or energy for herself. Instead, it was her "dysfunctional family" that got all of her space and energy. Listen to her talk about how she got out of "victim mode" and created boundaries and healed her body and mind and got pregnant with her own eggs. What You'll Learn Where she was in her fertility journey when we first met The struggles she had to overcome How she did the work, implemented the tools and strategies we teach Where she currently is in her fertility journey And much more! Our guest today Megan Grassel. When Megan was 17 years old she took her little sister Mary Margaret shopping for her first Bra. They scoured the mall to find a product that she was excited about, but ended up being completely appalled at all of the bra options that were not only available for her little sister, but also marketed to her and girls her age. Padding, push-up features and underwire galore… Megan could not believe that these were the bras that girls were supposed to wear! She saw something wrong with that entire experience. In fact, it was a day that she could not stop thinking about. Why wasn't there just a cute, colorful and comfortable bra for Mary Margaret to fit her and her body, not the body that she was “supposed” to have? The answer was that there simply wasn't one. That is when Megan realized that if no one else was going to make bras specifically for girls, then she was going to find a way to do it herself. Armed with her own hand-drawn pattern on her dad's yellow legal pad and the small savings she had earned from her summer job bussing tables, she moved forward with this idea. As a junior in high school in 2014, Megan founded , Yellowberry, to change the bra industry for girls." In 2014, Megan was selected as one of TIME Magazine's 25 Most Influential Teens and included on Huffington Post's list of 14 Most Fearless Teens. In 2015, Megan was named one of the 24 Millennials to Watch by Yahoo. In 2016 Megan was named one of Forbes Magazines 30 under 30. She has been featured in countless media outlets including The TODAY Show, The New York Times, Fast Company, Inc. Magazine, Forbes Magazine, Seventeen and Teen Vogue among others. r

Meet Megan! Howdy Joyriders! I opened this show with a few thoughts about the wintry weather we've had here in Portland over the past week. Last Tuesday we got clobbered with a foot of snow and a city that screeched to a halt. But, as the first flakes fell, I had no idea what we were in store for. I took a snap to show you my experience. Check it out here. In the week since then, I mostly worked from home but then braved public transit (with a ride to and from the Max station here and there) and today, finally, the snow has melted and I was able to get on the bike after 8-ish days. I have so much gratitude for public transportation, but I do not enjoy paying to go slower than I can on bike. That said, I do think it's excellent. I definitely had a miracle moment or two making dubious one minute connections. C'est la vie! >>Do you have wintry bike rides? Tag me up on the Instagram on your wintry bike pictures.
I've been talking to clients lately to get a view inside the evolution of their business. A big signpost in the evolution journey is raising rates, but often, the creatives I work with are afraid their clients will disappear if they do it. In a recent interview with Megan Coleman, freelance web designer, she says, “I charged less in the beginning because I didn't know how much to charge. The more projects I took on, the more I realized how much things should really cost to make the money I needed to live.” In this interview, Megan also answers these questions: How did she know it was time to quit her full-time job? What did she do to prepare for freelancing? Did she use up all the money she saved? How she got her first few clients. Why she recommends doing some freelance work on the side first. Find out where Megan is now, and why this two-time CFC attendee is coming back this year. Meet Megan at the Creative Freelancer Conference in Chicago. The early-bird deadline ends may 1st.
