Welcome to the Growing Careers & Companies Podcast with Allison S. Weiss. Today, we prepare for the fast-approaching New Year and talk about some of our favorite practices, tips, resources, and thought-provoking questions around annual goal-setting & planning. Let's end the year on a positive note and begin 2022 in a position of strength and power! For more resources and news visit: https://www.growingcareersandcompanies.com/ “Setting and achieving meaningful goals resides at the intersection of introspection and execution.” 2022 is only a few weeks away, and it's a great time for introspection, reflection, and revelations - here are some concepts, ideas, and exercises to consider as you evaluate what's important for the year ahead:   The first exercise is based on Michael S. Hyatt ‘s book, Your Best Year Ever. He created 10 categories that are all important for a healthy, balanced life. The 10 different areas are mental health, physical health, spirituality, intellectual life, partnerships, parental life, friendships, jobs, hobbies, and personal finances. Rate yourself on a 1-10 scale in all these categories and see where you should focus more in the next year.   Have a few undisturbed hours with yourself and take a granular review of your calendar. Start to understand how you are spending your time and how that relates to your achievement of the key metrics that you have for your business, for your career, and for your life. Once you've taken a look at your key metrics, the next step is to consider the assessment of your goals versus your actual results. What are the big wins? What were the challenges? What were the big “aha” moments? What are the areas for opportunity?   Create goals for 2022 and really sink into them. Connecting on a deep level to what we really want, who we really are, and the life that we're trying to create is what drives successful goal setting. People who can vividly describe or picture their goals are 1.2-1.4X more likely to achieve them. Visualizing your ideal life is very helpful when you're trying to achieve your goals.   Find a group of people who can keep you accountable. If you don't have a tribe or a circle of folks around you with whom you feel deeply connected, we invite you to examine why. Join a community or create one yourself. Vicky believes there's a misconception going around. Do you have any big life goals that you want to achieve? Vicky doesn't. Joe doesn't. Vicky believes most people don't have huge goals―the way Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson do and that's absolutely okay. You do not need to have big goals in your life in order to be successful or happy. One of Vicky's goals was to buy a nice house and she's already done that. So, what's next?   Key Takeaways: [1:40] What is a 'Womble'? [7:00] What's Joe's life goal right now? [7:25] We fall into this trap where we think successful people have big life goals. [8:15] We sometimes think that if we ever hope to be successful, we too need these huge goals and this makes us feel inadequate. [9:15] What's Vicky's life goal right now? She has no idea! [10:45] Fun fact, Vicky loves elephants. [11:10] What does Joe care about? Goldfish. [12:35] Vicky has been going through somewhat of an existential crisis with her business lately. [13:30] Most people are actually “river people”. Vicky explains what she means by that. [15:10] You should have an idea of where you're going. Live your life with purpose. Right now, Vicky feels like she's drifting through life. [16:55] What do you want people to say at your funeral? [19:50] Joe is happy where he is today. [20:45] Vicky is going to be spending the next few weeks figuring out what she wants out of life and her business. [20:50] Will there be changes? Undoubtedly. [23:15] Vicky is in the works with something fantastic.
