'47 Ronin' director Carl Rinsch was given millions to develop a sci-fi series for Netflix- a series that will never see the light of day. It was revealed that Rinsch allegedly spent some of the $55 million provided by Netflix on stocks and Dogecoin, before spending more money on sports cars and luxury goods. Netflix has since cancelled the planned 13-episode series. Flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall says Rinsch had been described as 'erratic' before signing on with Netflix. English actor Tuppence Middleton is on a steady, slow rise and that seems to suit her just fine. On this side of the pond she’s perhaps best known for playing Riley Blue on the Netflix Sci-fi series “Sense8” and Lucy Smith in the “Downton Abbey” movie, but you’d be foolish not to seek out her work in “Trap For Cinderella” and "War and Peace.” Now she’s part of the impressive ensemble in David Fincher’s latest film “Mank.” She plays “Poor Sara” Mankiewicz, wife of the alcoholic co-writer of Citizen Kane, played by Gary Oldman. I ask her about working with Fincher, whom actors (many of whom have been on this show) seem to adore, despite not necessarily having the traditional “actor’s director” traits. We also talk about an under-appreciated film she starred in last year called “Disappearance at Clifton Hill,” and what to say (or not to say) to an actor when they access their pain for the betterment for the film. As a talented actor on the rise, J. Alex Brinson continues to build his body of work by bringing dynamic characters to life within his acting career. Currently, Brinson can be seen as Bailiff Luke Watkins in CBS’s drama ALL RISE alongside Simone Missick, Wilson Bethel, Jessica Camacho. The drama follows the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful, and sometimes absurd lives of judges, prosecutors, and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops to get justice for the people of Los Angeles amidst a flawed legal system. Previously, Brinson starred as Jeff Conniker in Netflix Sci-fi series, TRAVELERS along side Nesta Cooper, Eric McCormack and Mackenzie Porter. Initially his role was only meant to be a 3-episode Guest Star, however, Brinson’s immersion into his role as a domestically violent police officer convinced the show’s producers that they wanted him for all 3 seasons. Brinson’s early passion to perform landed him a place in the Drama Division at the prestigious Juilliard School where he went up against over 2,000 applicants to become one of only 150 students accepted. His experience at Julliard helped lead him into his current success on television.

Series star Mina Sundwall came to BUILD to talk about the second season of the Netflix show.

Speaker: Jeff Jarvis In an episode of the popular Netflix Sci-fi show, Black Mirror, we are introduced to a world where everyone is given a rating (a hologram number that floats above people's head). Throughout the day your personal number would fluctuate as others rated your social media posts and real-life interactions. The maximum you can get is a five - but the aim for someone who wants to excel in business and live in a nice apartment is to get a rating of 4.5. This unending fluctuation and pursuit of a higher number, you can imagine, leads people to being neurotic about posting online, making sure they maintain friendships with people who have high ratings and never embarrassing themselves in public. What makes this terrifying is that it's probably closer to reality than we might acknowledge. In a world of ratings and likes and shares, how easy is it to lose a sense of who we really are?
In this episode we reviewed the film FENCES starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Following that, JD and I reviewed PASSENGERS. Then we talked about a few other things including the new Netflix Sci-fi series TRAVELERS which JD recommended several weeks ago. Enjoy.
