Ready for a remake of a 60's sci-fi TV show that stars the guy from Friends and arguable one of the best actors of our generation (Gary Oldman)? No? Neither were we. This week, the boys review Lost in Space from 1998. Starring William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc, Gary Oldman, and Heather Graham. The Robinson family sets out on a journey through the stars in an effort to save the world. As the Wilderness Years draw towards an end, film journalist Ben Travis and animation academic Sam Summers go back to the future with 2007's time-travelling oddity Meet The Robinsons. Episode SummaryErin and Rachel travel to a frenetic future to discuss Meet the Robinsons (2007), a fever dream of a film that performed poorly at the box office despite intervention from John Lasseter, newly seated Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Sexist and fatphobic content are only minimally present, but that doesn't mean Erin and Rachel enjoyed this chaotic whirlwind of characters and colors any more than the critics who panned it in 2007. Episode BibliographyA Day with Wilbur Robinson. Keith Robinson of Kaua`i comes from a multi-generational, large land-owning family who has been in Hawai`i for more than 200 years. The Robinsons (descendants of the Sinclairs) owned and operated sugar plantations and cattle ranches across many thousands of acres in Kaua`i, including the entire island of Ni`ihau. A self-described "black sheep", Keith's varied interests range from Ni`ihau defense operations, to ranching and native plant restoration. His passion is as a one-man operation in growing, planting and helping to sustain in some cases rare plant species across Robinson-owned land. He shares his unusual upbringing, as well as his controversial views related to public versus private stewardship of rare species.

The Star Tribune has launched a new podcast called "Ghost of a Chance" that tells the story of a black couple named Harry and Clementine Robinson who lived in South Minneapolis in the early twentieth century. The house that they occupied now belongs to Eric Roper, who happens to be the editor of the paper's regular history feature, "Curious Minnesota." Roper purchased the home in March of 2020 and used the extra time he had during the pandemic to research its former occupants. That took him deeply into the family histories of the couple, and he travelled all over the country to follow leads. Eventually, the paper decided to make the story into a narrative podcast, and he teamed with audio producer Melissa Townshend to make that happen. Along the way they spoke with historians, authors, psychologists, and excerpted oral histories to bring all that history to life. Roper and Townsend discuss the podcast with Jazz88's Peter Solomon. Hunsucker is accused of using tetrahydrozoline, a toxic chemical found in Visine eye drops, to murder his wife, 32-year-old Stacy Hunsucker, in 2018 and to poison their 10-year-old daughter in 2023. Prosecutors allege that Hunsucker attempted to implicate his wife's parents, John and Suzie Robinson, in both incidents. The Robinsons, who were present in court, had filed a motion in August requesting the revocation of Hunsucker's bond, citing concerns over alleged harassment and intimidation. They claim Hunsucker has been following them, harassing them, and attempting to remove them from their grandchildren's lives. Initially, the death of Stacy Hunsucker was attributed to natural causes due to reported heart issues. However, suspicions arose when it was revealed that her husband had requested no autopsy and a swift cremation. As an organ donor, tests on her organs and blood later detected the presence of tetrahydrozoline, leading to murder charges against Hunsucker in December 2019. He had been released on a $1.5 million bond at that time. In 2023, Hunsucker reported to the Mount Holly Police Department that John Robinson had attacked and kidnapped him. According to the police report, Hunsucker claimed he was pistol-whipped, zip-tied, and injected with an unknown substance. Authorities have found no evidence supporting these allegations. Prosecutors argue that Hunsucker fabricated the incident to frame the Robinsons and divert attention from his own actions. In addition to first-degree murder and insurance fraud charges related to his wife's death, Hunsucker now faces new charges connected to his daughter's alleged poisoning and the harassment of his in-laws. These include four counts of intimidation of a witness and four counts of obstruction of justice. While he was granted a $25,000 bond for these new charges, the judge noted that he would remain in custody due to the severity of the allegations and the revocation of his previous bond. "The poisoning of his daughter was once again done with an attempt to implicate Mr. and Mrs. Robinson in the death of his wife and remove the Robinsons from the lives of his daughters," the motion to revoke Hunsucker's bond stated. The Robinsons have expressed relief at the court's decision to keep Hunsucker detained, emphasizing their concerns for their safety and the well-being of their grandchildren. The case remains ongoing as prosecutors continue to build their case against Hunsucker.  AND! WHILE OUT ON BOND FOR HIS WIFE'S MURDER…. Hunsucker, charged with fatally poisoning his wife with eye drops in 2018, pleaded not guilty to felony arson on for allegedly setting a medical helicopter on fire. Joshua Hunsucker, accused of igniting a syringe pump mid-flight on November 26, 2019, forced the Atrium Health helicopter to make an emergency landing at a car dealership on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte. Hunsucker was charged with felony property damage to Atrium Health, posting bond shortly after his arrest. At the time, he was already out on bond awaiting trial for the alleged murder of his wife, Stacy Robinson Hunsucker. Just weeks after the helicopter incident, he was taken back into custody and formally charged with her murder. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? October 15, 1988 - With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Kirk Gibson hits a pinch-hit home run off Dennis Eckersley to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 5 - 4 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Game One of the World Series. Gibson, who injured himself making a game saving catch in the National League Championship Series, never came out for game one introductions and never took batting practice spending the entire game on the trainer's table receiving treatment with Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda checking on him between innings. Inning after inning, Lasorda checked and was given the thumbs down each time until the bottom of the ninth with the A's leading 4-3 when the clubhouse boy told Lasorda that Gibson wanted to speak to him. ”I think I can hit for you, Skipper” was the message Lasorda heard when he arrived in the trainer's room. Eckersley got the first 2 batters out. Alfredo Griffin was next up when Lasorda sent Mike Davis to the plate instead, with Gibson warming up unbeknownst to anyone. As Eck settled in to pitch, Lasorda sent Dave Anderson to the on deck circle.Eckersley took notice and decided he wasn't going to let Davis hit it out of the ballpark. He worked the count to 3-2 and walked Davis. “Now get out there Big Boy” Lasorda ordered Gibson, whose appearance sent the crowd into a frenzy. Lasorda decided Gibson had two swings to try and hit it out of the park and then he gave Davis the green light to steal 2nd. With 1st base open, the A's chose not to walk Gibson who worked the count to 3-2 andGibson launched the next pitch out of the park. Well, Sabrina and I sure have, and in our latest podcast episode, we're taking you on a whirlwind tour of the mysterious Men in Black. Forget the comic book heroes; we're talking about the real deal. With a Natty Daddy in hand for me and a cotton candy IPA for Sabrina, we clink glasses of Mountain Java moonshine to the captivating tales of Howard Dahl's 1942 encounter with doughnut-shaped UFOs and a host of other historical run-ins with these ominous agents.Amidst sips and laughs, we don't shy away from the darker side of conspiracy theories, discussing the daunting idea of being watched by the very government we chat about. We even question our son's newfound whistling skills—could he be the next great whistleblower? Diving into incidents like Robert Richardson's UFO collision and the Robinsons' home invasion, our conversation hits nerves as we ponder the unsettling tactics these so-called Men in Black employ to keep their secrets, well, secret. Are they guardians of government knowledge, or could they be something far more otherworldly?Rounding out the episode, we tease the notion that these agents might just be extraterrestrial beings themselves, especially in light of the recent, albeit overshadowed, admissions by our government regarding UFOs. And because we're all about community and a good conspiracy, we're thrilled to announce our new Drunk Conspiracies Podcast Discussion Group. And for our topic, the randomizer goes all the way back to 1977, the summer when Star Wars had the unmitigated audacity to dominate the box office 35 years before Disney owned it. The only competition Disney had that summer was a Herbie sequel and an animated talking mice movie, so the Disney execs thought "Hey, y'know what Walt would've done? He would've paired the animated talking mice movie with a 48 minutes of documentary-style footage of a bear and a raccoon in the woods just kinda wandering around, narrated by an obscure country singer who, for thoroughly unclear reasons, is named 'Mayf Nutter.' That'll steer audiences away from Luke Skywalker blowing up the Death Star for sure!" Are you starting to understand why Disney struggled in the 70s? Join Tony Goldmark, Stephen Anderson, David Ganssle and Luke Ski as they chase A TALE OF TWO CRITTERS!  Here's that "bear and bees" video we were talking about btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehm7q6uTtsA   Check out my guests' stuff!
