Stephanie shares her personal journey, breaks down the misconceptions surrounding therapy, the stigma that prevents people from seeking help, and why mental health support isn't just for those in crisis but for anyone navigating life's challenges.Therapy is a tool for navigating a wide range of mental health challenges. Yet, the word itself can be unsettling. Some embrace it. Some resist it. Some don't even know where to begin. And often, shame becomes the biggest barrier of all.But what if we flipped the script? Richard Peachey from an organization called Neurodiversity Celebration Week (NCW). Richard is the NCW coordinator and his work involves organizing events, updating the website, and working with NCW partners from Lexxic which is a top UK neurodiversity organization. NCW was founded in 2018 by Sienna who is also neurodivergent. She wanted to start a social movement aimed at changing the narrative from the medical model. This is particularly important because of the language used to describe neurodiversity including words like disorder, disability, or deficiency. The term "Neurodiversity" was coined by Judy Singer.Celebrating neurodiversity is a matter of pride as much as it is done to reveal the work required in this space. Scientific research puts neurodiversity at approximately 15 to 20% of the population and with the disparity surrounding neurodiverse folks, there is a need to change the narrative. Interestingly, lots of people who are neurodivergent do not keep full-time jobs; this is why they are likely to run their companies instead. NCW focuses a lot on education and now there is an inclination toward the justice system because there is a higher percentage of neurodivergent prisoners compared to their percentage in the world as a whole. From the 13th of March, Monday morning, NC Week kicks off with conversations on the importance of celebrating neurodiversity including a panel on adapting to neurodiversity in the workplace. One of these panels will discuss the benefits of neurodiversity and the second will discuss creating a neuro-inclusive culture which is about identifying tools and working environments that help people function seamlessly. Also, there will be panels on education; creating a neuro-inclusive classroom, and supporting neurodivergent learners. Research has shown that neurodivergent workers were 42 percent more effective than neurotypical graduates. Austin Peachey and Jack Cashion jump back on the podcast to join Michael and Ryan in reviewing episode 119 (9-9) of Beyond Gilead, “The Showdown.” While Austin loves the old-time radio spoof from John Fornof, the other hosts aren't too keen on Tim's persistent eisegesis, how Tim learns his lesson, and the theme in the episode's climax. Finally, a Return to Gilead Christmas special released at Christmastime! Michael and Ryan take a break from the Mr. Key Series to invite Austin Peachey and Jack Cashion back to the podcast to review episode 103 (S-11) of Beyond Gilead, “Christmas Heirlooms.” The four-member review squad talks small casts, mixed feelings, parents as main characters, the Morrisons' history of busyness, and immersive sound design. The time is finally here to review Lori Twichell's first episode of Gilead, 84 (S-10): “O Little Town of Coleraine.” Austin Peachey again joins Ryan and Michael to engage in a little well-natured debating over the merits of this soft season premiere. While all three hosts appreciate the much-needed respite after the Whitlock trilogy, opinions are mixed on the overall plot, the final scene's twist, how the episode earns (or doesn't earn) credibility, and what the theme, if anything, actually is.
