Join your host, Hunter, as we journey through Day 151 of our trip through the Bible. Today, we continue in Proverbs, chapters 13 through 15, where wisdom for daily living abounds—from guarding our words and embracing discipline, to the value of humility and the power of a gentle answer. Then, we turn to Romans 11, as Paul dives into the mystery of God's grace—free and undeserved—for both Jews and Gentiles alike. Through readings, reflection, and heartfelt prayer, this episode invites us to rest in God's boundless mercy, trust in His wisdom, and remember one thing above all: you are loved. Settle in for encouragement, reflection, and the daily strength found in God's word. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It is what it is—and what it is, is grace. As Paul writes in Romans 11, God's grace is free and undeserved, offered to Jew and Gentile alike. In verse 6, he puts it plainly: “And since it is through God's kindness, then it is not through their good works. For in that case, God's grace would not be what it really is, free and undeserved.” We keep returning to this good news: there is enough love to go around for everyone, enough grace for all people, from every tribe and nation. God's mercy is deeper, wider, and higher than we can begin to comprehend. Paul exclaims, “Oh, how great are God's riches and wisdom and knowledge. How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways.” We may not be able to make sense of it all, but the mystery is this: God's mercy is poured out on all—despite our failures and disobedience, despite whether we think we are deserving. His grace is not dependent on our goodness, but rooted deeply in his own loving character. So what are we to do with this wondrous, boundless mercy? Paul's invitation, and the call of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, is to trust in what God has done for us. It's about him—about his saving work, his unending love. We are invited to live in him, to let his grace transform us, to move forward each day in the light of his boundless love and mercy. That is my prayer for myself: to be shaped by this grace, to remember that it is not my effort, but God's love that sustains me. It's my prayer for my family, for my wife and children. And it's my prayer for you today—may you rest secure in the truth that you are loved. God's mercy is enough, God's grace is sufficient, and in him we find our hope. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Loving god, you have knit us together in the body of Christ from every nation and tongue. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Make us a vessel of your peace today. Where hatred stirs, let us bear your love. Where wounds run deep, let us be agents of pardon. Where fear grips hearts, may we speak faith. Where sorrow hangs heavy, may we carry joy. Teach us to listen more than we speak, to understand before we are understood, to love. For in surrender, we find abundance. In mercy, we discover grace. And in dying, we rise into your life. In the name of Jesus. Amen. And now as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. May 25, 2025 Daily Devotion: “The Gift of God and The Futility of Earthly Wealth” Ecclesiastes 2:26 New Living Translation26 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him. This, too, ismeaningless—like chasing the wind. Have you ever wondered how you could have just a portion of the joy that you see in certain people? If so, Scripture has good news for you. Joy doesn't go to the best or the brightest. You don't have to outwork and out last all of the others. Joy is a gift from God to all those who are pleasing in His sight. How can we be pleasing in His sight? Scripture tells us that all the Lord asks of us is that we do what is right, that we show mercy, and that we walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8). Thatis what the Lord asks of us: justice, mercy, and humility. We are pleasing in His sight when we exhibit these qualities. Then He gives us wisdom, knowledge, and joy. When we feel ourselves a little lacking in joy, let's ask God to reveal ways we can be pleasing in His sight.
Welcome to the Grace in Focus podcast. Today, Bob Wilkin and Sam Marr are answering a question to pinpoint the gift of Ephesians 2:8. The text states, “It is the gift of God… that not of yourselves.” What is the gift of God here – the “faith” to believe OR the whole idea of “saved”
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” We see Jesus' reason for demanding a drink from the Samaritan woman. His command to give Him a drink revealed the intensity of His need. I don't want us to miss what I think is an important insight. This is the second time Jesus used the imperative verb form. Jesus didn't ask. He commanded her to give Him a drink. He didn't say, “Would you please give me a drink?” or “I'm thirsty, would you please help me?” Jesus wanted this woman to become aware of her deep and intense need for living water, so He understood the desperate need He had for a drink as the Father's way of informing Him of her need. He came to the well, weary and aware of His desperate need for what she could give Him. She came to the well, weary and unaware of her desperate need for what He could give her. If she were in touch with the spiritual thirst, she would have engaged Him and asked for what He could give her. We will see that He leans into this later in the conversation by revealing that her spiritual need, her thirst, had led her to drink from the wrong source—men. Jesus revealed three things she didn't know. She didn't know what He could give her. She didn't know who He was, and she didn't recognize her spiritual thirst. We can take great encouragement from this verse in several ways. One, we know the gift of God—eternal life—and we have it! We have experienced the love of God in Christ, so we should be motivated to tell others of His great gift. And lets' not miss this. It is a gift! One doesn't have to earn it or pay for it. It is given freely by the Father. Two, we know who Jesus is. He is Almighty God appearing in flesh. Jesus is the Son of God, the exact representation of the Father, the out flashing of His glory. He is the way, the truth, and the life, and the only way to the Father. We are blessed beyond words. Three, if we have realized our own desperate need of living water, then we have asked Him to give us that living water. We live out of the satisfaction of a never-ending flow of life in Christ. So, when we are weary, we know who to go to, and we know what to ask for—living water. Jesus, dwelling in us, is a source of constant fullness, a well that never runs dry. May we live out of His fullness and invite others to drink from Him. I invite you to become a partner in our ministry. Would you pray about becoming a regular supporter of Elijah Ministries and the Live to Love with Jesus ministry? I hope you will receive the joy and benefit of “giving it forward,” so others may receive encouragement to turn their hearts to God and to live to love with Jesus. Welcome to the Grace in Focus podcast. Bob Wilkin and Ken Yates are answering a question from John 4:10, which talks about, “The gift of God.” Acts talks about “The gift of the Holy Spirit.” So, should we take it that what is mentioned in John 4:10 is also “The gift of the Holy Spirit?
In this lecture, Don Carson explores Jesus's conversation with Nicodemus in John, where Jesus teaches the necessity of being "born again" through the Spirit for spiritual renewal and entry into the Kingdom of God. Carson explains the symbolism of light and darkness in the passage, connects new birth to Old Testament promises, and highlights the transformative power of the Spirit. Carson also discusses the role of faith in receiving eternal life, with God's love as the motivation behind Jesus's sacrifice. He teaches the following:How Jesus's response to Nicodemus challenges his understanding of the Kingdom of GodThe theme of light versus darkness illustrates the spiritual blindness of unbelieversHow the concept of new birth is rooted in Old Testament passagesNicodemus's confused focus on national transformation instead of personal renewalHow Jesus challenges Nicodemus to accept his testimony based on his divine authorityThe love of God is the motivation for Jesus's sacrifice and the new birth
