In Episode #40, we offer some teacher quick takes on that universal part of everyone's school experience: lunch in the cafeteria. Ms. Compton, Mr. Rose and your host spent some time in the studio reminiscing over our own histories with school cafeterias of our pasts, and then we recently spent a lunch period gathered at one of round tables in the Borah Cafeteria, paid our 5 dollars and 10 cents, gobbled down our crispy chicken salads, and contemplated meal time at this school. and you'll get to hear all about those experiences. You'll also hear Mr. Rose's Prep Period Cold Call with Borah's Food Service Manager, Mrs. Chipman, who offers some fascinating insights on the daily routine of feeding Borah's students. You'll also find out that once all the kids are gone and tables wiped off, Borah's cafeteria becomes a cool venue for other events here at the school Thanks for listening! These are Borah Voices!

6. The Republican Party struggled to find a viable challenger to Roosevelt, considering figures like Herbert Hoover, William Borah, and Arthur Vandenberg. They eventually settled on Alf Landon, the governor of Kansas, known as the "Kansas Coolidge". Landon was viewed as a progressive who had successfully balanced his state's budget. However, he was an unremarkable campaigner with a poor radio presence, which was a significant disadvantage against the charismatic Roosevelt. Despite his fluke election in 1932, Landon secured the nomination largely because the party lacked other successful officeholders. (7)1936 FDR, PERSHING AT ARLINGTON.

How many books have you read in the last year? Go ahead—pick a number and hold onto it. Now, press play on this episode of the Borah Pridecast and meet a group of students who are driven readers and rabid competitors. For the past four years, Borah High School's Idaho Battle of the Books team—affectionately known as the Big Friendly Slugs—has taken on the challenge of reading a dozen carefully selected books each year in preparation for fierce literary competition. But this isn't just about numbers or titles. It's about curiosity, camaraderie, and the kind of dedication that turns reading into a shared adventure. Kristen, Ella, Abby, Conlin, and Camden are more than competitors—they're a reminder of what it looks like to be fully engaged, joyfully intellectual, and unapologetically themselves. They're sharp, quick-witted, occasionally goofy, and deeply committed to their reading and each other. Listening to them, you'll hear not just their insights on books, but their perspectives on teamwork, growth, and what it means to care deeply about something in a distracted world. There's something quietly inspiring about this team. Maybe it's their enthusiasm, or maybe it's the hope they represent—a glimpse into a future shaped by thoughtful, driven young people who still believe in the power of language, of ideas, of stories. This is a feel-good conversation and these are Borah voices.

Through his work on Begonias and other flowering plants found in Northeast India, Professor Dipankar Borah sees the world differently. It's not just for his own benefit though.“Much of my time is spent making students aware of their surroundings,” He says. “We trek to forests, cook food from the wilderness, and then find joy in the simple yet profound experiences. Through these moments of exploration and laughter, I hope to rekindle their sense of wonder and then help them build the lasting bond with nature.”In this episode, let Dr. Borah invite you with joy and wonder into the world of Begonias. Dipankar Borah's paper “A new species Begonia ziroensis and a new record of Begonia siamensis from Arunachal Pradesh, Northeast India” is in volume 63 issue 1 of the New Zealand Journal of Botany. It can be found here: https://doi.org/10.1080/0028825X.2023.2295439A transcript of this episode can be found here: Dipankar Borah - TranscriptNew Species: Begonia ziroensisEpisode image credit: Dipankar Borah Read more on Dipankar's Researchgate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Dipankar-BorahAnd Follow him on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dipu.borah2/Be sure to follow New Species on Bluesky (@newspeciespodcast.bsky.social) and Instagram (@NewSpeciesPodcast) and like the podcast page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/NewSpeciesPodcast).Music in this podcast is "No More (Instrumental)," by HaTom (https://fanlink.to/HaTom)If you have questions or feedback about this podcast, please e-mail us at NewSpeciesPodcast@gmail.comIf you would like to support this podcast and enjoy bonus episodes, please consider doing so at https://www.patreon.com/NewSpeciesPod
