Send us a textLet's talk about it! A quick 15-20 minute episode to jumpstart some thoughts to consider in your day. Life is busy but we want to mindful of the reason God placed us on this earth. One of those reasons is to share our faith in Jesus. Today we want to talk about why this is hard and also identify some ways we can push back against the barriers that keep us from sharing. Is there some commonality here between us (Derek and the audience -- you!)? I hope so! But let's spur one another on and pray for one another to be bold in preaching Christ.
In this episode the guys discuss bible school. Should Christians attend bible school? What is the purpose of bible school?

Description: In the times of Deborah and Barak, there was a problem with leadership. Faithless leadership in Israel cost them their inheritance, when they did not drive out the Canaanites from the land. Deborah encouraged Barak to lead Israel. Deborah, as a mother in Israel inspired others to achieve great outcomes without a claim to glory. True leadership, like that shown by Deborah and Barak, has vision and tenacity to see things through, right to the very end. They worked together until the enemy was completely destroyed.

Bible School 2025: The Pursuit of God Introduction The goal for the week is to dive deep into spiritual topics as adults while the children receive special instruction. The church has been praying for the Holy Spirit to saturate and fill every room, heart, and teacher throughout the week. "It takes the Holy Spirit to do anything that is spiritually important." The focus will be on the pursuit of God, revisiting a topic from the previous year with expanded lessons. Notes will be available for those who want them. Pastor Tommy emphasizes the importance of God's people "getting into that normal, expectant, pushing toward apprehending God every day." The devil uses many "thieves" to steal the relationship with God. Pastor Tommy credits A.W. Tozer's book, The Pursuit of God, as a significant influence. Tozer was a pastor who gave away all royalties from his books and lived a simple life dedicated to serving God. "Here was a man that gave everything he had to serve God...he gave it away and he wrote never owned a car him and his wife would road a bus everywhere they went." Revelation 2 and 3: Churches of Ephesus and Laodicea The Revelator, through the Holy Spirit, provides a chronological picture of the church age, from the New Testament church to the church of Laodicea. Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7): A powerful, growing church filled with the transforming power of God. Known for its works, labor, patience, and intolerance of evil. Criticized for having "left thy first love." The church is urged to repent and return to their initial devotion. Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22): Represents the modern church, characterized by talk of religion but lacking substance. Materially rich but spiritually "wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Lukewarm, neither cold nor hot, leading to the threat of being "spewed...out of my mouth." The church is warned to repent and return to God. Pastor Tommy suggests that elements of both churches may be present in contemporary congregations. Some may have lost their first love, worn down by the world. Others may be living in sin and indifferent toward God. Both conditions require change and repentance. The Pursuit of God: An Urge Within Us The pursuit of God is spurred by an urge that God places within us. The Holy Spirit wants to help individuals move from where they are to where they need to be. John 6:44 states, "No man can come unto Me except the Father draw him." It was the Holy Spirit that led individuals to conviction and opened their hearts to faith. Pastor Tommy emphasizes that salvation is not the end but the beginning of a journey. "When a person is born again, that is but the inception." The Holy Spirit's work is essential to prevent individuals from taking credit for their spiritual achievements. "If it wasn't for the Holy Spirit of God I wouldn't be saved." The impulse to pursue God originates with God, and the outworking is our following hard after Him. Even in pursuit, individuals are already in God's hand. Apathy and indifference toward God are prevalent among Christians. People come to church and leave unchanged, without engaging in personal prayer or Bible study. Examples of Pursuing God David (Psalm 63:1, 8; 42:1-2): Sought God early and thirsted for Him. His soul followed hard after God. "O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee; my soul thirsteth for Thee." A man after God's own heart, always wanting more of Him. Moses: Spoke with God face to face but desired to see His glory. God honored his request by allowing him to see a glimpse of His glory from the cleft of the rock. Moses' face shone brightly after the encounter. "Moses got to see it because he asked him for more." Apostle Paul (Philippians 3:12-14, 8-10): Acknowledged that he had not yet attained perfection but ...

In Ephesians 5, Paul tells us to look carefully about how we walk, “not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” With the summer months approaching and the kids soon getting out of school, we want to encourage you to work with your kids to get off their screens, get out of the house, and make the most of the time rather than wasting their time on foolish pursuits. Here are some suggestions. For those who are old enough, have them secure a summer job. All of our kids should be required to perform daily and weekly chores around the house. Have them engage in outside yard work. Help them look for opportunities to volunteer. If they are too old to participate in your churches vacation Bible School, have them volunteer as helpers. Guide them to develop a short list of books to read over the summer months. Encourage them to develop a daily exercise plan. Teach them how to get into the habit of having daily devotions. Encourage your kids to have a wise summer.

This will be the last Bible School session until we pick back up in the Fall! God bless you all!
Aaron and Willi sit down to reflect on a topic that came up during our most recent pastors' retreat: Bible colleges. They share memories of the challenges faced by full-time pastors who also work part-time jobs, all while striving to provide solid biblical and theological teaching to their congregations. Bible colleges exist to support local pastors in this important task—and we even have some opportunities available right here. However, in the German context, pursuing theological education is often viewed as unusual and, from a practical standpoint, not particularly beneficial. This creates a tension: how do we communicate the value of biblical education when there's so little?
We pray you heard from God and that you learned from this session of Bible School!

I remember being warned by a mentor when I got out of Bible School and into ministry. He said there are two things that will probably haunt you your whole ministry and life: sex and money. He was right. They are constant temptations. He also told me that if I could keep people out of my life, ministry would go way smoother! Haha! He was joking, of course.Sexual purity is essential. Self-control is also necessary to honor God in this area of your life. What interested me here was that I have a responsibility to keep myself from sin. God is not going to do ALL the work for me. It is Him and me together.

Summary: *Suffering Well: Heather discusses the concept of suffering well, emphasizing the importance of maintaining faith and finding peace in the presence of God, even amidst life's most painful trials. *Christ as a Model: The conversation delves into how Jesus' suffering and obedience to God serve as a model for Christians to follow in their own times of hardship. *Loss of a Child: Heather shares the heart-wrenching story of losing her four-month-old son, Brennan, which became a catalyst for her deepened relationship with Jesus and a transformative moment in her faith journey. *Challenges with Mental Illness: She recounts the struggles with her other son, Nate, who battled mental health issues, and how this experience taught her about spiritual warfare and the power of persistent prayer. *The Presence of God: Heather repeatedly emphasizes the unparalleled peace and joy found in God's presence, which she describes as the ultimate reward for enduring suffering with faith. *Miracles in the Journey: She highlights that the miracle often lies in the journey itself rather than an immediate resolution, and how persistence in faith can lead to profound personal and spiritual growth. *Persistence in Prayer: Heather encourages believers to persist in prayer and not give up, even when immediate answers are not apparent. She uses biblical references, such as the persistent widow and the story of Jericho, to illustrate the importance of enduring faith. *Spiritual Warfare and Authority: She discusses the importance of recognizing and combating spiritual attacks, particularly those targeting one's family, and the necessity of standing firm in faith. Intro: Author and Women's Ministry Leader, Heather Bradley shares her profound experiences and insights on the theme of "suffering well". Heather's journey through personal tragedies and challenges highlights the intersection of suffering, faith, and the transformative power of a relationship with God. Heather herself has been challenged with this very thing not once but twice and both of those instances had to do with 2 of her children, both sons. She refers to these seasons of life as her "even if" and "even though” stories. God didn't move His hand to change Heather's 4 month old son's health issues and her baby boy, Brennan passed into the arms of Jesus. When her other son, Nathan was 6 years old the family experienced his overnight transformation into a mental and emotional journey of pure exhauston lasting 10 years before God moved His hand to change Nathan's health condition. How do we suffer well when the One who could change our circumstance doesn't or at the very least He waits an awfully long time? But hold on to this truth…we don't need to fear the painful valleys in this life, and it has nothing to do with sidestepping or avoiding the pain itself. Nobody this side of heaven avoids trauma and suffering. But if you're a believer in Christ our suffering and pain are turned into purpose. We're transformed, refined and walking in a deeper level of intimacy with and freedom in Christ. There is nothing in this life that compares to the peace and joy that God can give in the very midst of traumatic pain and suffering. That's why no weapon formed against us shall prosper. If we give God space to speak into our pain, to answer the cries of our heart, comfort us when the answers won't come, He gives us the beauty of His presence that overwhelms our pain. So Heather and I made it a point to talk about the struggles and realities faced by many Christians, particularly in the United States, who often perceive faith as a pathway to unending joy and favor, devoid of pain and suffering. However, Heather's journey illustrates that suffering can coexist with divine joy, favor, and anointing, revealing a more complex, yet enriching, narrative of faith. The truth is, God is in the business of transforming us using the very pain that was supposed to destroy us. In sharing her journey, Heather not only provides insight into her personal trials but also offers a message of encouragement for others navigating their own paths of suffering. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of faith and the beauty that can emerge from the ashes of our pain. As believers, we are reminded that suffering is not the end of our story. God transforms all the weapons formed against us for our good and His glory. To me, being held in God's secure embrace, is the safest place to be in the most unstable environment I've ever know. This week, in Oak Park, Illinois, a wild tale unfolds when woman is brutally murdered, in her apartment, leaving detectives with very few clues, until a bible college student neighbor comes forward with a story. He recalls having a vivid dream about the murder, at the exact time the murder was taking place. His dream is complete with some uncanny details that perfectly match the crime scene, including a symbolic position of the body. Is he the real killer? Along the way, we find out that a town's 50th festival should have better bands, that if you dream of murder, maybe keep it to yourself, and that DNA is a fantastic thing, when used correctly!!New episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports!
