In this episode of the Ideology Podcast, Mick is joined by special guest Dr. Ben Young, senior pastor at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. With Drew away this week, the two dive into a vulnerable and thought-provoking conversation about doubt, belief, and what it means to trust God in the face of suffering and uncertainty.Dr. Young shares his personal story of walking through nearly a decade of doubt, sparked by unmet expectations around prayer and miracles in his college years. What began as disappointment eventually led to a full deconstruction of his faith—followed by a slow and honest rebuilding rooted in grace and the person of Jesus Christ.Together, Mick and Dr. Young explore:The difference between doubt and unbelief, and how doubt can actually strengthen faithWhy many churches have historically struggled to make space for questionsThe cultural obsession with certainty, particularly in evangelical and fundamentalist traditionsHow suffering and disappointment shape our view of God's goodness and activity in the worldThe importance of community, vulnerability, and empathy in seasons of deconstructionThey also reflect on shifts in the cultural questions people are asking—from "Is it true?" to "Who am I?"—and how the Church can respond with both conviction and compassion. Drawing from voices like Blaise Pascal, Søren Kierkegaard, and the Psalms, Dr. Young presents a vision of faith that embraces both mystery and reason, intellect and intuition. This episode offers encouragement and guidance for those struggling with doubt or walking alongside someone who is.Connect with us:Email: ideologypc@gmail.comYouTube/Instagram: @ideologypcResources referenced:Room for Doubt by Ben YoungPensées by Blaise PascalFear and Trembling by Søren KierkegaardThe Psalms and Ecclesiastes as biblical models of wrestling with doubtRobert Kegan & Lisa Lahey's research on adult development and cognitive complexityBackground track (licensed by Musicbed):"Evaporate" by Svvn
After a much-needed holiday break, the gang is back behind the mics and feeling refreshed... mostly. Join Pete, Laura, Liam, and Bee as they catch up on a wild few weeks of work, life, and misadventure.Liam kicks things off with tales from a three-day wedding in Spain, complete with tuxedos in the ocean, an aggressive jellyfish, a competitive bucking bronco incident, and an unexpected visit from the local police. Meanwhile, Pete shares his less-than-glamorous story of surviving "Vomitus Maximus" after a beautiful wedding in the Scottish Highlands. This leads to a candid discussion on the biggest challenges facing wedding creatives today: Is the rise of "editorial" photography making it harder to capture authentic moments? And why are clients increasingly choosing phone-based content creators over traditional videographers? Finally, we get real about the big one: burnout. Deep in the thick of wedding season, we share our personal struggles and tangible advice on how to manage the pressure, rediscover your creative spark, and find the joy in your work again when you feel like you have nothing left to give. (Season 9 Episode 7) In Season 9 we are detouring from Australia and heading to France. I am chatting with Artist, Caroline Jeppesen. In 2019 her husband and her took their 3 kids and lived in the seaside town of Argeles-sur-Mer in the South of France for 9 months. The kids went to school, and they hung out indulging in hobbies and some great rose wine. She shares how she made this happen, the visa process, the great holidays they did from there and things to consider if you'd love to do the same (which is even easier if you don't have kids). This is the last episode of this series. There's a quote from one of my favorite western movies I have taken to heart these past few months in light of all the escalating tension across our nation and around our world. In a way I've never considered before, it sets the table for what might take place if we dared to follow Jesus' challenge of accepting Beatitude #7 - "Blessed are the peacemakers." (Matthew 5:9) "Don't force me to fight because you won't like my way of fighting." I get it. There is much to be angry about right now. There is a spiritual battle that is greater than any so-called culture war. The kingdom of heaven, established by Jesus Christ, is advancing upon the earth. And the forces of darkness are resisting. Don't get suckered into using the same tactics as the enemy. Fight the battle as Jesus taught us to fight. Resistance begins by spreading tables and inviting the opposition to break bread.Resistance begins by sowing seeds of kindness in the lives of others.Resistance begins by daring to fight the good fight in such a way that neither side will understand or appreciate it.Resist anyway.Viva la resistance! Join Pete, Laura, Liam, and Bee for a special "postcard" episode, recorded live from next to their tents during their wholesome (and feral) camping holiday! Swapping the studio for a field, the team gets real about the highs and lows of the creative life in the middle of a busy August. In this episode, we chat about our recent travels, from a stunning but stormy cruise through the Norwegian fjords to an epic 14-hour drive to the Isle of Skye for a single elopement. We then dive into some all-too-relatable industry frustrations, including the awkward dance of dealing with difficult wedding bands and a deep dive into the dos, don'ts, and disasters of hiring second shooters. The conversation then takes a serious and personal turn as Liam shares the full, cautionary story of being scammed out of £4,500 by a fake marketing "expert." It's an open and honest account of how easily it can happen and the emotional toll it takes, serving as a must-listen for any freelancer or small business owner. We wrap it all up by sharing the simple joys that have made our trip unforgettable, from barbecues to a magical night watching shooting stars.Timestamps00:00 - Intro00:31 - A Postcard from a Field: The Feral Camping Holiday Begins03:32 - The Pre-Holiday Work Grind05:02 - Cruising and Seasickness in Norway07:52 - A 14-Hour Drive for a 3-Hour Elopement11:03 - The Importance of Taking a Break in Peak Season12:55 - Industry Rant: When Wedding Bands Are "Cheeky F*cks"18:23 - Industry Deep Dive: The Woes of a Bad Second Shooter28:26 - The Full Story of a £4,500 Scam43:50 - Highs & Lows of the Week49:26 - Outro: Time for a BarbecueGet a free 14 day trial of Musicbed: https://www.musicbed.com/invite/935CyLawson Film School: https://www.lawsonfilms.co.uk/lawson-film-schoolSay hi on Instagram @ourcreativecommuneliamandbee.comlawsonfilms.co.uklawsonphotography.co.uk#weddingphotography #weddingvideography #filmphotography #creativepodcast #weddingindustry #ourcreativecommune Hosted on Acast. Out in the New Mexican landscape three Spanish words were carved in store 442 years ago - “Pasó Por Aquí.” Translation: “Passed this way.” "Passed by here." Pasó Por Aquí. You can breathe these words wherever you find yourself today. Because wherever your journey has taken you at this moment, Pasó Por Aquí is your testimony as well as mine. It is the testimony of everyone who surrounds us. We're just pilgrims passing through. Pasó Por Aquí. Passed this way. Passed by here. It denotes the journey, not the destination. Send us a textWhat happens when the very foundations of your safety are shaken, and healing seems out of reach? Join me as I share a deeply personal journey, marking the near fifth anniversary of the Wednesdays with Watson podcast. Born from the solitude of the pandemic and my struggle with PTSD, this episode takes you through the significant moments that shaped my path toward healing. From a life-altering stay in a psychiatric hospital to moving in with a friend who transformed my approach to counseling, we explore the profound role of faith, community, and a trauma-informed support system in navigating life's darkest periods. In a candid discussion, I recount the decision to entrust my journey to Dr. Pettit, a Christian counselor who became a beacon of hope and safety. Despite my initial skepticism about having a male counselor, his approach turned a meeting room into a sanctuary for healing. Through recounting sessions filled with breakthroughs and challenges, this episode underscores how a worldview larger than oneself can be pivotal in recovery. You'll hear about heartwarming and sometimes humorous anecdotes, like my notorious sense of direction, even on the simplest drives from Clearwater to St. Pete.As we recount the trials of facing threatening emails during hospital stays and the solace found in unexpected friendships, this episode is a testament to the transformative power of support and connection. The narrative reinforces a powerful message: no matter how bleak circumstances may appear, hope is unwavering, and every story is still being written. As the podcast approaches its fifth year, we celebrate not just survival, but the discovery of purpose and worth in the face of adversity."Safe in Your Arms" by Josh Baldwin, used by permission MusicBed.com You ARE:SEEN KNOWN HEARD LOVED VALUED
