Grab a coffee and join us at the holiday cottage! We're recording straight from our annual Shropshire retreat to catch up on everything happening in our creative lives right now. With the cost of living crisis changing how couples plan their big days, we dive deep into the rising trend of reduced-coverage weddings. Are these shorter, "smash and grab" days a refreshing change of pace, or do they rob us of the chance to truly connect with our couples? We also debate the modern relevance of bridal prep and detail shots - do brides really want a photo of their shoes on a tree, or are we just shooting out of fear of missing something? We're also pulling back the curtain on the very first British Wedding Film Festival! We debrief on the incredible highs of the glamorous night at the Manchester Art Gallery, the financial realities of hosting a major industry event from scratch, and the controversy of international filmmakers dominating the final shortlists. Plus, we talk through our plans and category changes for next year. Finally, we share our weekly highs and lows, featuring the magic of Victorian tintype photography, the sheer terror of M6 traffic, the sting of buying four new car tires, and a painfully relatable vent about couples treating our Zoom consultations like interviews only to ghost us afterward.Timestamps00:00 - Morning Coffee & Shropshire Holiday Vibes02:40 - Are Reduced Coverage Weddings the New Normal?07:30 - The "Smash and Grab" Reality of Short Weddings08:30 - Do Couples Actually Want Detail Shots Anymore?14:50 - The Danger of Missing Crucial Props (The Pen Story)16:35 - Shooting a Bar Mitzvah & Traffic Nightmares20:10 - Our Worst "Late to a Wedding" Stories & Box Breathing23:25 - Identity Crisis: Are We Still Calling Ourselves Photographers?25:55 - The British Wedding Film Festival Debrief33:00 - The Financial Reality of Hosting an Industry Event35:00 - The Controversy of International & Destination Winners42:20 - Highs & Lows: Victorian Tintype Photography in Shrewsbury48:30 - Highs & Lows: £650 Tyres & Toddler Colds50:10 - Why Are Couples Ghosting After Great Zoom Consultations?52:45 - Dinner Debates & Wrapping UpSay hi on Instagram @ourcreativecommuneGet a free 14 day trial of Musicbed: https://www.musicbed.com/invite/935CyThe British Wedding Film Festivalhttps://www.britishweddingfilmfestival.com/Lawson Film School: https://www.lawsonfilms.co.uk/lawson-film-schoolliamandbee.comlawsonfilms.co.uklawsonphotography.co.uk#weddingphotography #weddingvideography #filmphotography #creativepodcast #weddingindustry #ourcreativecommune Hosted on Acast. Is it time to delete the app? In this episode, we tackle the growing sentiment that the golden age of social media is behind us. Inspired by industry leaders stepping away from Instagram, we debate whether the constant hustle for likes, reels, and algorithm appeasement is actually worth the mental toll. Can a creative business survive today without a social presence, or is that a luxury reserved for the famous? We also dive into the nitty-gritty of award season. Having just finished a marathon judging session for the Wedding Film Festival and following the results of TWIA, we discuss what separates a good film from a great one, the subjectivity of art, and the fleeting high of winning a trophy.Plus, we share our struggles with the "wintering" season, the art of dealing with online trolls, and why school sports still have a long way to go regarding gender equality. Happy 2026! We are back by the fire for our first chat of the year, and we have a lot to catch up on.In this episode, we dive deep into the current state of the wedding industry. After judging hundreds of films for the British Wedding Film Festival, we've noticed some polarizing trends - from AI-generated voiceovers to the resurgence of "home movie" Super 8 vibes. We also discuss the controversial return of the "Dutch tilt" in photography (thanks, Gen Z) and ask the question: are Content Creators actually taking over, or was it just a phase? On the business side, we open up about a recent painful client cancellation and discuss the ethics of contracts and refunds when things go wrong. We also debate a recent award-winning image controversy - where do we draw the line between photography, digital art, and cheating?Plus, we share some life updates, including Liam's new career path, Bee's Harry Potter-style darkroom, and why Laura is painting in her underwear.Topics:•2026 Trends: The rise of AI music and voiceovers in wedding films.•Gear Nostalgia: Why everyone is buying old DSLRs and 35mm film cameras.•Business Realities: Handling last-minute cancellations and protecting your income.•Ethics: The controversy of using stock imagery and composites in photo awards.•Life Updates: Darkrooms, driving instructors, and car breakdowns.Whether you are a photographer, videographer, or just a creative trying to navigate the changing landscape, grab a coffee (or a wine) and join the commune.Timestamps:

In this episode, we travel back to 1903 to explore the film that helped define American cinema long before Hollywood found its voice. The Great Train Robbery isn't just an early Western—it's a landmark collision of myth, modernity, and narrative invention. Released while real outlaws were still roaming the frontier, the film stands at a pivotal moment when the American West was fading into history but rising into legend. We examine how Edwin S. Porter's short, violent, technically daring film transformed cinema from a novelty into a storytelling medium. From its startling alignment with the outlaws to its groundbreaking use of action, movement, and editing, The Great Train Robbery shaped the themes that would dominate American film for the next century: frontier justice, charismatic violence, technological change, and the thin line between spectator and participant. We also unpack the film's iconic final shot—a bandit firing directly into the camera—and why it remains one of the most provocative gestures in film history. If you've ever wondered how the Western became myth, how cinema learned to tell stories, or why American film has always been fascinated with outlaws, this deep dive uncovers the origins of it all.A revisionist Western before revisionism existed. A myth created in real time. And a twelve-minute film that changed everything.Where to watch:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In3mRDX0uqkAll music licensed through Music Bed

We also have an honest conversation about a struggle many creatives face: how do you politely tell a venue coordinator to back off and let you do your job? Also in this episode, we chat about the physical toll of wedding photography (what is "Photographer's Toe"?), the panic of surprise speeches for videographers, and a terrifying gear malfunction that saw a camera hit the floor in front of the guests. The One Who created the earth and everything in it, including you and me, designed us that way.  And our world, and our culture, and the news, and social media, and our phones, and our jobs and our choices and even our churches and good ministries are adding to that need for our souls to catch up.  We are not made for the pace we're living. So, how might Jesus be trying to get your attention?  And have you ever pursued what you thought to be His beckoning, only to wonder why He never quite seemed to be where you thought He was leading you to go? Today's Table features a two-week chase initiated by God across the Pacific Northwest featuring North Cascades, Olympic, and Mount Rainier National Parks that led to an unanticipated mountaintop and a conclusion not meant to be defined. Sometimes following Jesus is a mystery to be enjoyed rather than one to always be explained. Featuring "The Whole Thing" by Ellie Holcomb (Used by Permission through Musicbed).

As a pilot, Terry knows that even the smallest mistake can bring major consequences. This week, we're bringing you a message straight from the heart: compromise cancels covenant promises. When we obey God's Word, we stay in His covenant and walk in victory.  In this episode, Terry shares stories from the mission field — flying into remote places, caring for widows and orphans, and watching God's covenant faithfulness in action. Our key thought is simple but vital: “When you violate covenant principles, you cancel covenant promises.”

In this episode of the Ideology Podcast, Mick is joined by special guest Dr. Ben Young, senior pastor at Second Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. With Drew away this week, the two dive into a vulnerable and thought-provoking conversation about doubt, belief, and what it means to trust God in the face of suffering and uncertainty.Dr. Young shares his personal story of walking through nearly a decade of doubt, sparked by unmet expectations around prayer and miracles in his college years. What began as disappointment eventually led to a full deconstruction of his faith—followed by a slow and honest rebuilding rooted in grace and the person of Jesus Christ.Together, Mick and Dr. Young explore:The difference between doubt and unbelief, and how doubt can actually strengthen faithWhy many churches have historically struggled to make space for questionsThe cultural obsession with certainty, particularly in evangelical and fundamentalist traditionsHow suffering and disappointment shape our view of God's goodness and activity in the worldThe importance of community, vulnerability, and empathy in seasons of deconstructionThey also reflect on shifts in the cultural questions people are asking—from "Is it true?" to "Who am I?"—and how the Church can respond with both conviction and compassion. Drawing from voices like Blaise Pascal, Søren Kierkegaard, and the Psalms, Dr. Young presents a vision of faith that embraces both mystery and reason, intellect and intuition. This episode offers encouragement and guidance for those struggling with doubt or walking alongside someone who is.Connect with us:Email: ideologypc@gmail.comYouTube/Instagram: @ideologypcResources referenced:Room for Doubt by Ben YoungPensées by Blaise PascalFear and Trembling by Søren KierkegaardThe Psalms and Ecclesiastes as biblical models of wrestling with doubtRobert Kegan & Lisa Lahey's research on adult development and cognitive complexityBackground track (licensed by Musicbed):"Evaporate" by Svvn

Redemption's Table with Robert Barge

There's a quote from one of my favorite western movies I have taken to heart these past few months in light of all the escalating tension across our nation and around our world.  In a way I've never considered before, it sets the table for what might take place if we dared to follow Jesus' challenge of accepting Beatitude #7 - "Blessed are the peacemakers." (Matthew 5:9) "Don't force me to fight because you won't like my way of fighting." I get it.  There is much to be angry about right now.  There is a spiritual battle that is greater than any so-called culture war.  The kingdom of heaven, established by Jesus Christ, is advancing upon the earth.  And the forces of darkness are resisting.  Don't get suckered into using the same tactics as the enemy.  Fight the battle as Jesus taught us to fight. Resistance begins by spreading tables and inviting the opposition to break bread.Resistance begins by sowing seeds of kindness in the lives of others.Resistance begins by daring to fight the good fight in such a way that neither side will understand or appreciate it.Resist anyway.Viva la resistance! Featuring "Gardening" by JJ Heller (Used by Permission through Musicbed).
