In today's episode, I interview PGSDer Jenn Baswick all about how overcoming perfectionism allowed her to double her revenue without burning out. Our most successful PGSDers are business owners who LOVE being productive and yet find themselves struggling to show up fully for their business due to perfectionism. And this was definitely the case for Jenn. Jenn is a registered dietitian and before she signed up for PGSD, she'd tried everything she could to build her business. She invested in business programs to help her setup her business correctly and market it the right way plus she tried every productivity tool from to-do lists to time blocking to Asana to Notion. And yet her business still wasn't growing in the way she knew it could… Even though Jenn ‘knew' what she needed to do, she wasn't able to turn her knowledge into business growth - even though she was always busy working. In today's episode of The Perfectionism Project, you'll hear from Jenn and I discuss: ✔ The hidden reason why to-do lists, time blocking, asana and notion didn't work for Jenn ✔ All the ways overcoming perfectionism has made Jenn more productive ✔ When Jenn realised that overcoming perfectionism was a must for her business Tune in today and find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode496. Successful entrepreneurs rarely overthink. So in today's episode of The Perfectionism Project, I'm sharing why perfectionists overthink, the hidden costs that overthinking is having on your business and the proven path to stopping overthinking. Overthinking isn't just frustrating - it's stopping your business from growing. But that doesn't mean you need to beat yourself up for overthinking. Instead all you need to do is understand why it makes sense for your perfectionist brain to overthink things like social media content, your niche and your email newsletter. And then to start using the practical tools that will actually help you overthink far less. And that's what I'm sharing in today's episode. If you're anything like me, you love finding out how successful people *actually* run their businesses. What their office setup is like, how they structure their day, what they spend their time doing (and which tasks they don't let themselves do), how they manage their personal life and the things that didn't quite go to plan. That's why this week's podcast episode on The Perfectionism Project is a chatty episode to take you behind the scenes of a productive week in my life. If you've ever wondered what a 3-day work week looks like when you're running a $600k per year business - or wanted to hear about the practical things I do to ‘balance' my business with being a mum of 3 little ones under 3 - this episode is for you. I also share a few of the things I self-coached on, including something so embarrassing it makes me cringe and want to hide in a hole (that might sound dramatic but it's sadly 100% true)... Plus I share something super simple I did to improve my morning routine (this works especially well on the days I'm sleep deprived). Click play to tune in today! In today's episode, I interview PGSDer Jenn Baswick all about her Growth Goal and experience inside PGSD. Our most successful PGSDers are business owners who LOVE being productive and yet find themselves struggling to make the most of their time due to their perfectionism handbrake. And this was definitely the case for Jenn. Jenn is a registered dietitian and before she signed up for PGSD in December 2022, she'd tried everything she could to build her business. And yet her business still wasn't growing in the way she knew it could… Even though Jenn ‘knew' what she needed to do, she wasn't able to turn her knowledge into business growth - even though she was always busy working. In today's episode of The Perfectionism Project, you'll hear from Jenn and I discuss… ✔ The hidden reason why to-do lists, time blocking, asana and notion didn't work for Jenn ✔ All the ways releasing her perfectionism handbrake has made Jenn more productive ✔ When Jenn realised that releasing her perfectionism handbrake was a must for her business Jenn also shares how PGSD helped her make double her revenue goal - all while navigating the transition from offering 1:1 services to a group program. Find the full episode transcript and show notes at samlaurabrown.com/episode403. P.S. I know how scary it can feel to set a Growth Goal and go all-in on your business. 2018 was the year I got sick of getting in my own way and decided I needed to either go all-in or quit (and I was never going to quit). So I want you to know that inside PGSD you will be fully supported in setting your Growth Goal and showing up consistently for your business without burning out. Wow, and just like that, that's a wrap! Aly is recapping some points she wanted to expand on more during the season in the last episode of season one. She talks about societal standards and how it's okay to be in charge of your own life, how you don't have to follow a certain road map to get to where you want to be. In this day and age, it's easy to get caught up in a game of "Keeping Up with the Jones'," but Aly has some advice on how she has and continues to carve out her own path going against the grain of society. In this solo ep, she also discusses how to find enjoyment here and now, even if you aren't exactly where you want to be on your journey. Aly talks about how she finds things to be grateful for, no matter the kind of day she's having! Lastly, she gives lots of THANKS to all of you who have listened all the way through season one!! This was a big goal of Aly's, and to finish the season strong and to be able to share it with you leaves her with so much gratitude for YOU! The show would be nothing without you, so thanks again for listening : ) Aly mentions the book, What Color is Your Parachute? which can be found here. She also mentioned Sam Laura Brown's, The Perfectionism Project, which is a high recommended podcast by Aly!
Hey, there! This week I was joined by my role model: Salomé Beyer! We kicked things off with an introduction, tea talk, and rapid fire questions about feminism, inspiration, habits, and life. First, we explored Salo's journey with Girl Up: her experience, the tools she acquired, and advice for upcoming feminists. Secondly, we talked about what makes Salo who she is: building up her sisters, educating with love, and staying humble. Thirdly, we talked about the future: her university expectations, life wishes, and message to her future self. Lastly, Salo asked me her questions and shared her recommendations in podcasts before signing off. Hey, there! I begin this week's episode with a tea talk (cinnamon tea in an astronaut mug) and a life update about social service, vacation, and social life. I introduce competitivity with a clarification, anecdote, and structure for the conversation. Then, I talk about how exhausting competitivity can be: placing pressure on output, realising that I can't be the best at everything, and understanding that I'm part of a team (and I should start thinking like that!). Next, I admit that competitivity is still important: it pushes us to improve, but, it can come with a burden, and it is important to distinguish collective from individual efforts. Afterward, I imagine what it would look like if these two aspects could coexist harmoniously. I wrap up with some takeaways, and weekly favourites in face masks, T-shirts, and groups before signing off. Hey there! This week I begin with my tea talk (lemon tea in an astronaut mug) and a life update about my week off, another physics dilemma, a testimony of improvement, and the music I've been studying to. I dive into perfectionism by acknowledging the inspiration for this episode, Sam Laura Brown, saying that I will speak from what I have seen in others and myself, and that a lot of us are perfectionists. Then, I explain what I thought perfectionism meant, and what it actually means, which made me realise I was a perfectionist! Next, I get into the all or nothing mindset: I state that it's a perfectionist tendency, a popular saying we hear derived from it, how it holds us back from consistency, and my solution to it. Afterward, I focus on self sabotage: how this is another perfectionist tendency, an example, how this links to the all or nothing mindset, and that it stems from insecurity and limitations. Continuing, I share how perfectionists expect things to be effortless: what this implies, a personal example, and what I learned from that. I wrap up with the idea that perfectionism limits us. In my favourites I include a podcast, online creator, and playlist, then I sign off! Hey there! In this week's episode, after my usual tea talk, life update, and faves, I dive into a comparison between how other people view you VS how you do so. I start off by explaining why this is such an important topic, illustrating with the amount of energy we waste on this, how often we hear it, and how it shows us the importance of caution. Then I emphasise that we know ourselves best, which means that we must trust ourselves, remember that people only see a fraction of who we are, and contrasting with an observation that others can point things out which we don't acknowledge. I move on to describing the balance I seek, and all it implies. Afterward, I give a few simply ways you can reach yourself to stop caring. I conclude with a few main points and close off by reading a review.
