We are often very good at encouraging others and noticing things to admire in the artwork of those around us, but it can be more challenging to offer those same gentle words to ourselves. This week, we will practice finding things to love about our own creations and speaking to ourselves with kindness and generosity.I noticed this when I was sketching with my son. It was easy to find things to love about the work of the other person, but difficult to say these things about our own work. Do you have the same feeling? I would love to know how you respond to this and how you offer gentle encouragement to yourself. On a recent trip to Sydney, I attended a book event by Amie McNee who is an amazing champion of artists. Creativity is defined as “the ability to use imagination or original ideas to produce something new.”  According to this definition, everyone, including you, has a creative side. We all have vibrant and imaginative minds that can generate fresh and unique ideas.  However, societal beliefs often lead us to think that art is undervalued or inaccessible to most people. To challenge these misconceptions about artistic expression and to create a space where everyone's creativity is celebrated, I've invited Amie McNee.  Amie McNee is an author, speaker, and creative coach. In addition to her historical fiction, she has written four much-loved books, all of which discuss the realities and magic of leading a creative life. Amie is known for speaking, teaching, and coaching artists all over the world and helping them achieve their creative dreams. In this empowering discussion, Amie not only explores the various challenges that creatives encounter, but also offers transformative guidance and mindsets. She encourages you to take your art seriously and reach new heights in your creative journey.

In this episode, you'll learn: ·      Why creating is a rebellious act and how to own that power ·      How to ditch the perfectionism that's keeping you stuck ·      The science behind how creativity rewires your brain and changes your body When was the last time someone told you your dreams were too big? Too impractical? Not serious enough? Maybe it wasn't even someone else. Maybe it was that voice in your head telling you to grow up and get real. Let me be real with you. In my twenties, I was that person. The one rolling my eyes at artists and creatives. I thought they were self-indulgent. Like, how are you helping anyone by making a wall look prettier? If you want to make a difference in the world, shouldn't you be solving real problems? The system doesn't tell you that you can't create. That would be too obvious. Instead, it convinces you that you shouldn't even try. Unless you're naturally talented. Unless you can make money from it. Unless you can be the best. I fell for this lie for years. I dismissed art as fluff until I started seeing its real power. Here's what I want you to consider. What if that urge to create isn't just some random impulse? What if it's actually the key to unlocking who you really are? What if art isn't just about pretty pictures, but about transforming lives? Today our guest is Amie McNee. She's a mindset coach and author who helps people break free from the stories keeping them from creating. After transforming her own life through creativity, she's here to spark a revolution and remind us all that our art isn't just important. It's necessary. In this episode, I share a tool I like to call "Storm Journaling" as an act of radical self-acceptance & unshaming when we experience intense emotional dysregulation. Emotional regulation is a part of our Executive Functioning & has a huge impact on the experience of both ADHD & Autism. I've spent so much of my life trying to "fix" my big emotions, when what I really needed was to learn how to embrace them fully. I hope you enjoy. **Important note**: I don't recommend Storm Journaling as a daily journaling practice. That's a pretty quick ticket to feeling like crap, a lot. This is a tool best-used at your discretion, when you're in an Autistic meltdown/shutdown or you're in full-on ADHD emotional dysregulation, and the thought of doing something to make yourself “feel better” makes you even more upset. This is a sign that we need to lean into feeling our feelings, instead of trying to change them. For more routine journaling, I love Amie McNee's work. You can find her  journaling compendium on her website AmieMcNee.com and get it for free if you sign up for her newsletter. (In no way is this an ad or sponsored in any way—I'm just a huge fan of her work, and this resource is phenomenal).

In today's episode, I catch up with a fellow creative, author, and good friend of mine Amie McNee @inspiredtowrite for a raw and honest conversation about the comparison. We discuss where and how it shows up in our own lives and businesses and share some tips for overcoming it when it rears its ugly head. Comparison can lead to self-doubt, inaction, and shying away from going after our dreams and goals and can often cause people to quit before they've even started. When we are able to catch it in the moment, silence the inner critic and find healthy ways to combat it before it takes charge we are more likely to keep moving in the direction of our dreams and goals and find ways to collaborate instead of compare.

You can tell by watching him internalize sounds, surroundings, speech, people's behavior etc. There's a backlog of material building up.  Listening to this episode, you can hear in between the words that he stills has a few things to express. He's an undeniable autodidact hustler. Amie McNee is a writer, creativity coach and podcaster. She is a beautiful soul who I have been following on instagram for some time and loving the gentle and profound encouragement she shares in large hand written notes. Amie casts her inner critic as her younger self, mostly a petulant teenager but sometimes a scared, fearful and tantruming child. And she casts the antithesis of this as her inner mother. Her older wiser self, that soothes and mothers her younger persona most often on the pages of her journals where she rewrites any negative language. She literally erases and replaces what is inside her mind, negative to positive, with a pen and paper! It's so, so clever. For those of you that have been following along on my journey for a while, you will know that 2020 was one of the biggest years of my life professionally. My business experienced incredible growth, I welcomed so many more members into the Sistahood and I launched my first mastermind to help businesswomen scale their businesses and make huge impact. It has been so rewarding, but now looking back on that I am realising what a crazy time that was and how all of us were set up to fail as far as not taking time to rest, feeling like we needed to hustle to change our business models due to covid and to give as much as we could to our communities who were all needing support. So I did all the things. I got it all done, but by the end of the year I was severely rundown, my immune system was shot, I had a fatty liver and I was wrecked. I vowed that 2021 would be different and then the year started out to be just as crazy if not crazier than 2020. Something needs to give. I am now truly realising and leaning into the fact that I need to slow down. I have been burnt out and it's exhausting. My guest today on the podcast is Amie Mcnee and is the perfect woman to chat to about this topic. Being kind with yourself and not asking so much that you feel doomed to fail. Her approach is to believe success is not only permitted, but inevitable if you keep moving forward. We also look at the importance of journaling, something she has used to transform her entire relationship to creativity, letting go of stories that told her that her dreams weren't possible.
