Jaydan was born into a family of fourth generation tombstone makers in California. Most of his childhood was largely spent at the family business, which doubled as a rental storage space; where he would rummage through other peoples objects, and listen to families making arrangements for their loved ones. It is these experiences that made him value the heirlooms and objects we choose to use as markers for significant moments.His career began as an undergraduate student at California College of the Arts, in Oakland and received his MFA and MA from University of Wisconsin-Madison.Jaydan has furthered his career through generous opportunities as an artist in residence at Penland School of Crafts, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and a Fountainhead Fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth Universities Craft/Material Studies Program. He has received grants through the American Craft Councils Emerging Voices Program, North Carolina Arts Fellowship, and the Peter S. Reed Foundation. He has shown in recent exhibitions at Design/Miami (FL), Basel (SWI), Cheongju Craft Biennale (South Korea), Museum of Craft and Design (CA), Racine Art Museum (WI), Fuller Craft Museum (MA), and the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design (NC). Susie Ganch is an artist and educator living in Richmond, VA where she is Interim Chair for the Department of Craft/Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her MFA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Part of her practice is Directing Radical Jewelry Makeover, an international jewelry mining and recycling project that continues to travel across the country and abroad. He is the winner of an OBIE in Playwriting (2004-2005) and a Guggenheim Fellowship in Playwriting (2005), was a Pulitzer Prize finalist (2008), was shortlisted for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play (2008), and has also been nominated for an Olivier Award for Most Promising Playwright (2003), a TMA Award for Best New Play (2006), a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play (2007), and a South Bank Show Award for Theatre (2009). Amy just eats and doesn't gain wait—I am envious! More about Amy and her work: The Front Room Gallery is proud to present: “Back to Nature” a solo exhibition of new paintings by Amy Hill. This is the artist's third solo show at the gallery. Amy Hill's artistic career and developed style have been cultivated through her intense investigations of art historical references. Through portraiture, she relates common circumstances within cross relationships in time. The paintings in “Back to Nature” address not only the culture of the 1960's, but the fashion and political climate, the anxiety over the Vietnam War and the peace movement. Through comparative structures and subjects, Hill has masterfully relayed a parallel association of 19th century American folk art painting to 1960s era counterculture in the United States. Very much akin to the directive of the historical portraits she is referencing, Hill's paintings reveal much about ordinary people: how they lived, what they valued, and how they wished to be remembered. The paintings in this exhibition echo today's movement towards sustainable living as well as the back to land movement of the 1960s and 70s. "The worldly life has been rejected by peoples as far back as the Sadhu of India and the Ancient Greeks, so ours isn't the first culture to inspire a yearning for simpler times. In my paintings I try to create a more natural world. I draw on early American and 15th century Renaissance portraits where subjects are portrayed in naive or awkward poses with inaccurate anatomy against a landscape of questionable perspective. I dress my subjects in the clothing of the late 1960s, “hippy” fashion, when care for the environment, anti-consumerism, “flower power” and the desire for love and peace prevailed, a time essential in forming my own attitudes towards life." - Amy Hill Amy Hill is a New York based artist who received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and also studied at New York University. She has received grants from the Peter S. Reed Foundation and Art Matters, a studio grant from the Elizabeth Foundation, and nominations for the Catherine Doctorow Prize for Contemporary Painting and for membership in the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She received the Purchase Award from West Publishing Company, the Juror Award from the NYU Small Works Show and an honorable mention from the National Arts Club. Hill has exhibited both nationally and Internationally. Her work has been extensively reviewed in such publications as Harper's Magazine, Artnet Magazine and the New York Times.

Our first guest is Judy Linn, photographer and Vassar professor, best known for her book Patti Smith 1969-1976 : Photographs by Judy Linn. Judy talks about her relationship to photography which started out quite rocky and quickly becomes the thing that she needs to try and figure out leading her to a lifelong relationship with the art form, and a very successful career. Judy has had portfolios published in Artforum and BOMB magazine, and her photographs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Detroit Art Institute, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Getty Collection, among others. She has received an award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and grants from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Anonymous Was A Woman, and the Peter S. Reed Foundation. Judy shares so honestly about her life and her unique perspectives including her belief that all photographs lie. She's working on another book of photography taken in the early 70's from her time in Detroit working for a local paper. Can't wait for this...hint, bouffant hair and pointy collars. Our second guest is Jessica Vecchione, videographer and documentarian. Her company is Vecc Videography, she's been an accomplished videographer in the Hudson Valley for over 20 years. She recently released SMACKED, her new documentary film about the opiate crisis. This 69 minute film was her way of truly uncovering all that is happening with the police, the health care system, and those who struggle with the addiction. Jessica shares how she really broke through in film by making a documentary about the town of Fleischmans. She works with many nonprofits in the Hudson Valley and across New York State. Jessica's advice to aspiring videographers/filmmakers, just do it, follow your passion, and be kind along the way Self care! Be KIND!!! Move from the heart space.
