Send us a text"Dancing for the Devil—Episode 1 Part 1 - Die to Yourself" recounts the harrowing journey of the Wilking sisters, Melanie and Miranda, through their involvement with Shekinah Church, founded by Robert Shinn, and its associated group, 7M. The episode begins with the Wilking family's desperate attempt to reconnect with Miranda, who has been isolated from them since joining the church. Despite their efforts, including visits to the church gate and numerous calls, Miranda remains out of reach, even missing her grandfather's funeral under dubious claims of having COVID-19. This separation is indicative of the church's control over its members, compelling them to cut ties with their families.Miranda's entanglement with the church began after moving to Los Angeles post-high school and forming relationships with key members of the dance community, including James (B-Dash), who introduced her to Robert Shinn's circle. The narrative reveals how Melanie also got involved, initially invited to Shinn's house where she experienced unsettling religious practices and coercive tactics. Financial exploitation is highlighted, with members being subjected to steep fees and controlled bank accounts, leaving Miranda financially drained and dependent on the church. As the story unfolds, Melanie distances herself from the church after a series of controlling demands, while Miranda remains entrenched, further alienating her family. The church's manipulation becomes evident through practices such as signing non-disclosure agreements during services and enforcing strict separation of new members from long-term devotees. Former member Melanie Lee's experiences corroborate these accounts, revealing systemic control and abuse within the church over decades. The episode sheds light on the psychological and financial manipulation within Shekinah Church. Members are forced to surrender large portions of their income and subjected to public shaming for non-compliance. The church's control extends to personal relationships, with members reporting all thoughts and actions to a mentor, creating a pervasive atmosphere of surveillance and obedience. Financial records reveal that church leaders, particularly Shinn's wife Hannah, exploit members for labor and monetary gain, maintaining strict control over their finances.A turning point occurs when Melanie Lee recalls the sexual abuse scandal involving Robert Shinn, which initially led to a loss of church workers but eventually saw Shinn manipulating and retaining control over remaining members like Melanie and her sister Priscylla. This abuse and manipulation culminate in Priscylla's eventual escape, although she continues to struggle with the psychological aftermath. The episode underscores the enduring impact of Shinn's control, with former members grappling with the trauma and attempting to reclaim their lives. The episode concludes with a glimpse into the ongoing legal battle against Robert Shinn, initiated by Melanie and Priscylla. Their decision to sue is driven by a desire for justice and to expose the church's exploitation. The involvement of the dancers in the lawsuit highlights the shared experiences of manipulation and control, emphasizing the collective struggle against Shinn's oppressive regime. Despite the legal actions, key members like Miranda, James, and Nick remain loyal to 7M, illustrating the deep-rooted influence of the church on its followers.Support the showhttps://www.wewinewhenever.com/Support the showhttps://www.wewinewhenever.com/

This is a Vintage Selection from 2007The ConversationThe Restaurant Guys share this conversation Francis had with chef and winemaker David Page at the opening weekend of his new bed & breakfast on Shinn Estate Vineyards. He talks about growing and sourcing food on Long Island, ovens that cook for days and the differences between hosting a guest for a couple of hours or a couple of days. The Inside TrackThe Guys knew David from The Red Meat Club (a monthly gathering of NYC restaurateurs) and his restaurant Home which he ran with wife Barbara Shinn. The couple bought a vineyard and taught themselves how to grow grapes and make wine. He talks about immersing themselves in their lives as farmers, winemakers and proprietors of a bed & breakfast. “We love our lifestyle. We really, truly, truly do. It doesn't mean that every second of every day we're in ecstasy, but we love our lifestyle. And when you find something that you love, it's worth doing. So yes, we do wake up very early and we do spend the entirety of our day immersed in this lifestyle, and there's not anything else that we can think that we really want to do other than have a nice glass of wine at the end of the day and have a good dinner. And we retire and we start all over the next day,” David Page on The Restaurant Guys 2007 David Page no longer owns Shinn Estate Vineyards.See The Restaurant Guys LIVE with Chef Alex Guarnaschelli at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center on Monday, May 12! This is a Vintage Selection from 2007The ConversationThe Restaurant Guy, Francis, visits viticulturist Barbara Shinn at her vineyard in Long Island, NY. As they walk the fields, they discuss how she became a biodynamic farmer and how that is expressed in the wine. She uses a variety of methods from fish guts to laser planters with sublime results. The Inside TrackThe Guys knew Barbara from The Red Meat Club (a monthly gathering of NYC restaurateurs) and her restaurant Home which she ran with husband David Page. The couple bought a vineyard and taught themselves how to grow grapes and make wine. Barbara talks about forging her own path to create a sustainable vineyard with excellent wines. “ My philosophy before we planted the vines was to make very, very high quality wine and to be as organic as possible. Our best winemaker friends and our best manager friends and even the viticultural section of Cornell University flat out said to us, ‘You cannot do both things at once. Here on the East Coast, we have too much disease pressure. It's too humid. You cannot be organic in this environment. So if you wanna make high quality wines, do that. You'll be lucky if two to 3% of the materials that you use in your vineyard are organic.'And this year, well, I proved them wrong,” Barbara Shinn on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2007InfoBarbara no longer owns Shinn Estate VineyardsSee The Restaurant Guys LIVE with Chef Alex Guarnaschelli at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center on Monday, May 12! Mary "Bobo" Shinn was a well liked, friendly and talented artist and teacher living in her native Magnolia, Arkansas. Teaching classes out of a small art studio she purchased north of the town square, she made strong connections with many people, both children and adults, as she guided them to find their artistic abilities. On Thursday, July 20th, 1978, the twenty-five year old was supposed to get together with friends when she received a call from a man interested in purchasing a house she'd recently remodeled. Bobo agreed to pick the man up, since his car was in the shop, and left her art studio. She was spotted around town several times and then she mysteriously vanished. Her car was found abandoned in a grocery store parking lot hours later. The keys dangled from the ignition and scratches and scrapes suggested the vehicle had been driven off road. Despite an assortment of eye witnesses, no one has ever been able to identify the man Bobo was seen with that afternoon and nearly 50 years later her case remains open.LostnFound PodcastFollow Trace Evidence on Social MediaTwitter --- Instagram --- TikTok --- YouTube --- Like Facebook Page --- Join Facebook Group --- Threads --- Like MeWe Page --- Join MeWe Group --- BlueskySuppport Trace EvidencePatreon --- Paypal --- Buy Me A CoffeeTrace Evidence Merch ShopsTeePublic --- Threadless --- SpreadshopAll Other LinksOfficial Trace Evidence Website --- LinkTreeMusic Courtesy of: "Lost Time" & "Galactic Rap" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/#truecrimepodcast #unsolvedmysteries #coldcase #coldcaseinvestigation #murder #murdermystery #missingperson #missingpersons #truecrimecommunity #mysterypodcast #truecrime #coldcasefiles #truecrimestories #crimelovers #truecrimeaddict #truecrimejunkie #crimescene #justiceforall #missing #crimesquad #podcastcommunity #sleuthsunite #darkhistories #criminalmindset #detective #detectivediaries #forensics #forensicfiles #crimestories #crimepodcast #traceevidence #traceevidencepodcast #criminalinvestigation #justiceforvictims #detectivework #truecrimediscussion #podcastfamily #listenandsolve #crimefans #listentotraceevidence #uncoverthetruth #podcastrecommendations #podcastlove #podcastlife #truecrimeobsessed #followtheclues #cluefinders #podcastaddict #unsolvedmurders #unsolveddisappearances #detectiveatheart #jointheinvestigation #disappearance #vanishing #abduction #gonemissing #upandvanished #pacheco #stevenpacheco #podcasting #crimetalk #crimeanalysis #theories #realcrimes #disappeared #evidence #shinn #boboshinn #maryshinn #michaelmorse #arkansascrime #arkansasunsolved #magnolia #magnoliaarkansas #magnoliaar #arkansasstatepolice #mikeloe #russellwelch #greshamshinn #shinnfamilyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/trace-evidence--3207798/support.

The new podcast Forgive Me For I Have Followed builds on Netflix's Dancing for the Devil, delving into the personal stories of those affected by Robert Shinn, Shekinah Church, and 7M Films. Shinn founded Shekinah Church in LA over two decades ago, before establishing 7M Films, and is named in a civil lawsuit alleging abuse and "cult-like" behavior. In this, the premiere episode, co-host and former member Kailea Gray shares her personal perspective. Joined by co-host and Dancing for the Devil Executive Producer Jessica Acevedo, Kailea reflects on her and her now-husband's involvement with the church, how their lives have changed, and their journey moving forward. Dancing For the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult is streaming now on Netflix. Listen to more from Netflix Podcasts.
If you haven't seen the Netflix series “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult,” it's worth a watch. It follows Robert Shinn and his Los Angeles-based church, Shekinah, which has engaged some heavy-hitting social media stars to make a ton of money for his church. The families of those social media stars — who have been cut off from their loved ones by Shinn — think that Shekinah is a cult. And, well, we agree that it sure does seem a little culty. This week, we talked with Andrea Marks — a journalist who has covered both Robert Shinn and his church for Rolling Stone, and who spoke on camera in “Dancing for the Devil.” Andrea Marks is a freelance journalist who has written for Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and many other outlets, where she covers crime and subculture. In this episode, we get into the lawsuits surrounding Shinn, the allegations of abuse, and how a social media-focused cult can thrive in the age of constant connection. Plus, Andrea touches on her time reporting on NXIVM. Weekly Suit Gundam makes its triumphant return to review the long-awaited Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the film sequel to the first Gundam anime of the 21st century: Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. We are big fans of the original SEED on this podcast, and were driven slightly insane by Destiny, so seeing director Mitsuo Fukuda and the original cast and crew come back together for a final adventure, based on story material left behind by the late Chiaki Morosawa, is extremely cathartic, especially since the film they made is so astonishingly great. Now that it's finally dropped in the US on Netflix (albeit in a strange dub-only release – we would encourage listeners to, uh, *search elsewhere* for the original Japanese), we're free to talk about the film at length, diving into the incredible action, surprisingly potent storytelling, and how the movie finally does right by Kira, Lacus, Shinn, and all the other great characters left in tatters by Destiny. Fuelled by; post-session stoke, pizza, and beer we enjoy a thorough breakdown of Mark Shinn's history whilst deviating away from the chronological timeline regularly along the way. It is a long podcast but every minute is worth listening to. There is plenty of legitimate discussion about equipment, manufacturing, the industry as a whole as well as downwinding/foiling technique and gear tips as well. We talk about the origin of the Shinn brand and a little about why we've heard nothing from them in the past months. There will definietely be a part 2 for that part of the story as it is a big one! Enjoy!

"Dancing for the Devil—Episode 1 Part 1 - Die to Yourself" recounts the harrowing journey of the Wilking sisters, Melanie and Miranda, through their involvement with Shekinah Church, founded by Robert Shinn, and its associated group, 7M. Despite the legal actions, key members like Miranda, James, and Nick remain loyal to 7M, illustrating the deep-rooted influence of the church on its followers.

This documentary follows a group of young adult dancers and social media influencers with large TikTok and Instagram followings who unwittingly become part of a cult led by Robert Shinn. This cult extended to Shinn's church, Shekinah Church, in Los Angeles, California. Concerned parents race against time to uncover the truth behind the 7M Cult and rescue their children before it's too late. Sisters Melanie and Priscylla Lee, who were effectively orphaned as children and taken in by Shekinah, only to be abused for decades, are also featured. When young TikTok dance stars joined 7M Films, they got access to big production budgets, luxurious locations, and exciting career opportunities. There was a problem, however. Their boss, Robert Shinn, was a self-styled Christian pastor who placed increasing pressure on their time and finances, demanded unquestioning devotion, and isolated them from the outside world. (Julian covered the story of a family trying to regain contact with their daughter, Miranda Derrick, who had disappeared into Shinn's Shekinah Church for Conspirituality 105: TikTok, Cults & Conspiracies.) A new Netflix docuseries picks up where we left off. Julian talks to the series director, Derek Doneen, to discuss “Dancing for the Devil.” Learn more about your ad choices. Joshua Eisenman's research focuses on the political economy of China's development and its foreign relations with the United States and the developing world—particularly Africa. His work has been published in top academic journals including World Development, Development and Change, Journal of Contemporary China and Cold War History, and in popular outlets such as Foreign Affairs, The Wall Street Journal, and Foreign Policy. His views have been cited in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Economist and The New Republic. Eisenman's newest book, Red China's Green Revolution: Technological Innovation, Institutional Change, and Economic Development Under the Commune (Columbia University Press, 2018), received the honorable mention for the 2019 Robert W. Hamilton Book Award. In it he explains how more capital investment and better farming techniques increased agricultural productivity growth in Maoist China. In China Steps Out: Beijing's Major Power Engagement with the Developing World (Routledge, 2018), he worked with Eric Heginbotham to analyze China's policies toward the developing world. Eisenman's second book, China and Africa: A Century of Engagement (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2012), co-authored with David Shinn, was named one of the top three books about Africa by Foreign Affairs. Eisenman and Shinn's next volume, under advance contract with the University of Pennsylvania Press, will examine the China-Africa political and security relationship.

We divert from the main narrative to examine one of the most controversial aspects of the Korean War- the prisoner of war issue. Although the treatment of prisoners of war was codified into international law following World War II, both sides in this conflict would violate these laws to further their respective ends.
