The book of Isaiah contains some of the most amazing predictions about Jesus you will ever hear, today we zoom in to look at one of the most amazing of all of them.Help us advance the Kingdom, support our online ministry (harmonychurch.cc/give). Got kids? Check out Harmony Kids online (updated weekly) https://www.harmonychurch.cc/harmony-kids-online/! ------------------- Sermon Notes Slide Key: Sermons always start with “OPENING ILLUSTRATION:” and end with “CLOSING ILLUSTRATION:"All scriptures are NIV unless otherwise notedBold = Slide textBold Red = Scriptures (please reflect formatting of scripture on slides, i.e. - underlines, italics, etc.)“b" or “B” on a line by itself = Slide break/New slideBold ALL CAPS WORDS = heading to be ignored[some text] = programming notes to be paid attention to OPENING ILLUSTRATION: One of my favorite games to play at a Chinese restaurant is to have the person across from me try to recreate the picture of something behind them on the wall. I'll describe it to them and they do their best without looking at it to make the picture. My kids love doing this. What's funny is The descriptions never make sense until they turn around and see what I'm describing. This is how prophecy works See, the problem for most of us is when we read the prophecy in the bible, it doesn't stand out as unique, because the whole thing is ancient So if somethings 2000 years old or 2600 years old, it all seems the same to us… But today, I need you to put on your smart people caps and look do some thinking Because what I'm going to show you today is AMAZING! First of all We have to go back over 2600 years…Let me set the stage The prophet Isaiah is writing what we are about to read 630 years before Jesus To give you perspective, if we were to read a prophecy in our day in age that was 630 years old it would be coming from the year 1391. I totally considered trying to pretend like I had found this prophecy in my study about the modern invention of phones… “In those days, the words will flow like lightning. Flashing pictures will fill people's hands. Your desires will be at your fingertips and you will hear the voices of your loved ones coming out of a box.” Lol, I decided deceiving people was probably not a good thing for a pastor… But imagine for a minute if that was a real prophecy written in 1391In 1391 - the Chinese were just inventing toilet paper… You would read something like that and be blown away by the accuracy… the people writing it would have been like my kids in the Chinese restaurant-but we would look back and see it clearly…This is what happened when Matthew looked back at the passage we are about to engage… He looked back at it from 630 years later and realized that he was living in the moment the prophecy spoke about. Jesus has just finished healing Peter's mother-in-law - she had had a fever and Matthew says this… Matthew 8:15-1716 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” Matthew is looking back 630 years to words that Isaiah wrote, like a blurry image to him, but with 4k clarity for us… Can I read to you this prophecy that Isaiah wrote down 630 years before Jesus even stepped onto the scene? Actually, let me show you what Isaiah wrote…[Play “Is 53 Final" video - http://harmonychurch.cc/videos/Is%2053%20Final.mov ] You have to go back 2,630 years so you can come forward 630 years to see how God has been after YOU all of these years… Without all the prophecy about Jesus, we would have missed Him, He would have been a blip on the radar, but instead, we realize He is the POINT of the radar. And this isn't the only prophecy Jesus fulfilled. If we were to be conservative with the predictions we count as fulfilled prophecies that Jesus fulfilled from the Old Testament, Jesus fulfilled 300 prophecies in His earthly ministry. (some scholars would say up to 574 prophecies) I know what you're thinking, but couldn't Jesus have just read these prophecies and then chose to fulfill them? yeah, some of them he could have done that with-but many of the prophecies are things about where He would be born, whose offspring He would be, or like in Isaiah where he would be buried and that he would see His offspring and the light of life - predicting the resurrection… But what's most amazing about these prophecies is that they all have one thing in common… God was after YOU. Did you hear the language Isaiah is using? Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. It reminds me of something Paul said8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 In reality, it wasn't just while you were a sinner. It was before you even existed. God knew from the moment mankind decided to go our own way that He would bring redemption through His own death CLOSING ILLUSTRATION:When I was a kid, my brother had this friend, Chris Quenten who was a punk - he was 4 years older than me and would terrorize me. I'm sure I was kind of a punk too. But I'll never forget the day Chris was chasing me around the house with a baseball bat legitimately trying to hit me with it. I was terrified. He had finally cornered me and I was yelling for my brother to help me but he seemed to not even care. That's when Chris cocked back with the bat. I'll never forget my brother jumping into action and as Chris swung the bat. My brother reached out his hand and grabbed the bat and stopped it. He told Chris to get out of our house and that he would kick his butt if he tried to hurt me again. Listen, God obviously knew you and knew that you were going to be in this position that your sin and dysfunction would overwhelm your life. But the coolest part is that from the beginning God has been painting this picture of how He would bring you to salvation, to the hope of Jesus. How He would demonstrate His own love for you. When I'm in that Chinese restaurant describing the picture, they can't see it, but once they see it clearly, it all makes sense. Today, my hope is you now see clearly just how much you matter to God and how He came after you. And that you consider taking the jump to know Him…
Austin plays The Falconeer, a game on Xbox Game Pass where you play as a falcon in an aerial combat game. It has an interesting story, voice acting and surprisingly was made by one person! We also jump into Scavengers which is a free-to-play survival battle royale game. It's considered PvPvE with both humans and AI characters. It's got an interesting concept but will it keep us engaged? In the news, we talk about more surrounding the PSVR2 headset which likely will include 4K, eye tracking and more. Sony also reveals some new controller colors. Discord rebrands and brings some new features and Destiny 2's new transmog system requires players to go 25 hours to upgrade one armor set. Insane. Ubisoft has announced their next update for The Division is called Heartland and will be free-to-play. Will this be the right call? it sounds like it could be a spin on Scavengers honestly but we're unsure if it will be a good long-term game or if it will fall flat at the end of the day.Check out video clips of our news every week over on YouTube.Show Notes:03:20 - The Falconeer10:26 - Scavengers24:27 - PSVR2, Discord Rebrand and Destiny 2 Transmog55:16 - The Division Goes Free-to-Play - Is this the right move?1:18:59 - Upcoming Video Game ReleasesBecome a part of the conversation! Why So Serious? On the special one year anniversary of Pretty Spiritual Podcast, we are talking about how to have fun in life. Yes, even when it feels like the end times. Even in times of global pandemic, presidential elections, and whatever other fun stuff might be happening in your personal life. Smile! But seriously, life is hard enough. How can we learn to let go of some of our seriousness? How can we be more exuberant with our lives and laughter? How can we relax and let ourselves play...even as adults? If you’ve ever tried to lighten up, you’ve probably discovered that fear and pride can keep us really invested in looking good and being right. In so many ways, fear gets in the way of our ability to play. So how do we notice when we’re taking ourselves really seriously and what can we do to let go of all that seriousness? Let’s get into it. Don't Take Life Too Seriously? Um, okay... How? There are some really good reasons we started taking life so seriously. Maybe we had to act like adults when we were children and learned to equate seriousness with safety. Perhaps we thought that seriousness and severity were good ways to protect ourselves and keep ourselves safe. And we want to honor the fact that those equations may have saved our lives when we were little. But now as adults, these attitudes and beliefs are actually getting in the way of our lives. So how do you wake up in the moment when you find that you’re taking yourself too seriously? We have some fun suggestions. Of course, we’ve all heard that one annoying suggestion at some point or another: don't take life too seriously. (And if you were offended and slightly irritated by this suggestion, join the team!) Okay fine, even if we want to learn how to do that, where do we begin? It has been our experience that the more tools and resources we have, the greater the chances we can wear the world like a loose garment. How to Have Fun in the Thick of It As Suzuki Roshi once said of the spiritual path: “What we are doing here is so important, we better not take it too seriously.” So let’s learn how to laugh kindly about ourselves and our lives even when we’re in the thick of it. Want to learn how to laugh more? Or how to have a sense of humor about yourself? That’s right, friendies. It’s time for spiritual tools. Let’s pick up some tools that help us be lighthearted when we're in transition or life feels stressful, heavy, serious and overwhelming. For the record, not taking ourselves too seriously doesn’t mean we dismiss or undermine our own experience. Before we can start to not take life so seriously, we usually need to learn how to soften into the experience of suffering we’re having. We often need to learn to be kind with the fear or tightness we’re feeling in order to love ourselves into healing. We can appreciate the gravity of circumstances or situations while still maintaining a cheerful attitude. And by the way, if you're struggling with mental health issues or trauma, we really want you to trust yourself and take your healing seriously. Please get your sweet, tender self all of the help you need. If you’re struggling with that first step, please get in touch with us so we can support you with encouragement, accountability, and love. Spiritual Tools to Have Fun with Life Let’s get those tools. First of all, attitude is a choice. OMG, how annoying is that! Sometimes the fastest way to have a shift in attitude is to watch our thinking. Having the container of awareness gives us the space to witness ourselves and our thinking. Because, just, wow. It’s nonstop comedy gold up here, people. Ready to take your one-person comedy act on the road? Chances are you can lighten up by sharing all that serious thinking with another person. Letting safe people into the obsessive or self-centered thinking helps us remember we’re not alone. Plus, sometimes just saying the thoughts thinking out loud can make so much room for our sense of humor. Another tool that helps us so much is curiosity. What changes when we can get curious about our experience? Being of service to others is also such a powerful way to get out of ourselves and feel good about the lives we’re living. And hey, just to be clear, we are always advocating for service with boundaries. And just a casual shout out to God or gawd or goddess or whatever name works for you. Can we surrender our controlling and managing to something greater than ourselves? Especially something that cares deeply for us and is taking care of us at all times? This kind of trust in the process can help us relax into the flow of the present moment. Say a prayer to whatever speaks to your heart. Play Is a Real Spiritual Tool Ready for the final tool? We want to suggest that you play! Wondering how to be playful? Ask yourself, where can you be silly and let loose without caring too much about getting it right or what other people think? In other words, do you have a puppy (or other fur baby) around? Please hold hands with it immediately. Get in there for some in-depth ear kisses. Aaaaaand repeat. For even more fun ideas, check out the spiritual resources on our tools page. Come on, y’all. Join the fun and discover for yourself why laughter is good for the soul. Find us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Insight Timer, Google Play, Spotify, Soundcloud, Podbean, and Stitcher (or our Contact page) and share your feelings, thoughts, and anything else! Thanks for listening to our spiritual podcasts. We love ya!

Jessica Perkins is the founder, and creative genius behind the Mama May I Shop and The Playfull Way. Jessica believes Play IS the important work. "Play is innate in childhood and then we kind of lose our ability to play as we age, and replace it with efficiency and lists, and boxes checked off. It’s hard to get deep into play when we, as grownups, are so tapped out that our thoughts and agendas get in the way of our peace and presence." I so enjoyed chatting with Jessica about how differently we interrupt even the word "Play" itself but how it can build connection and help our own self care, and builds the culture of connection at home.
