@GameAgentET (OGiH) and The Six-Button Samurai are joined by @Hoptimus (RFC) of Retro Futurist Culture to grapple with the arrival of Nintendo Switch 2 after the Direct hype cooled a bit. While we're still pretty excited about the hardware itself, the nickel-and-dime nature of charging for updated visuals for older games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (not to mention overall game prices) feel a bit greedy. The gang also takes on the uneven state of fighting games in 2025, specifically some of the upheaval in the Tekken 8 community following their Season 2 launch, some weird marketing moves from SNK. and what may be next for Street Fighter VI in Season 3. Summer Games Fest is also within shouting distance, and we're intrigued to see what Not-E3 has in store at such a weird point for the industry. Warning: The following episode may make you quite sad, angry or annoyed. But, hey, don't blame us, we just read the news that other people have reported on... In good news, Minecraft is getting an update! While it's no Super Duper Graphics Pack that was promised way back in 2017, it does bring enhanced lighting, and other cool stuff. They call this update Vibrant Visuals, and hopefully this is laying the foundation for whats to come, with Mojang building up over time to getting us amazing looking giant blocks. From now now, we'll be seeing Minecraft in a whole new light... Microsoft celebrated its 50th anniversary. And it was all about Copilot. Like, come on Microsoft - you have disrupted so many industries, gaming included - and you chose to focus on Copilot. Oh, we got a new dynamic background for Xbox. Thanks, I suppose... Atomfall looks like its a massive hit, thanks to the Game Pass effect. Although reports of bugs, lost saves, audio issues and more are plaguing those achievement hunters and completionists. Probably best to wait for a few patches before diving into this one. And Nintendo had a Direct. Apart from some exorbitant game pricing (seriously - $80 for Forza Mario Kart Horizon!), we got a bunch of new games coming to Xbox. Pity none stand out, as Nintendo either showed off what we already know (hello Silksong), and a bunch of indie games that look right at home on the Switch. Maybe next Direct, we can expect some more excitement, but until June and Not-E3 happens, we're probably going to be hanging out for any news. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris conclude their coverage of the summer games extravaganza they lovingly refer to as Not E3! This time around, Nintendo hit it big with their June Direct, including a number of big surprises like a new Mario & Luigi, Zelda starring Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4. Atooi also farted out a rather unimpressive Hatch Tales deepdive, Limited Run got weird with this year's LRG3, and Sunsoft made a 6 minute presentation about 3 games. Which was certainly a choice. At the top of the show, Dan still doesn't have news about his ongoing health issues, but he did manage to be stressed about it all week! So instead of playing games, he talked about the trials and tribulations of being a toy collector. Meanwhile, Kris celebrated his birthday week with some delicious food, Game Boy Mega Man games, and the glory that is Shovel Knight Dig. . Finally, in Week Old News, FromSoftware decides NOT to fire a bunch of people, a bunch of long thought lost games resurface for various platforms, someone has decided to port Doom II to Super NES, and more. Among the bombastic trailers showcased in the Xbox showcase at Not E3™ — er, I mean Summer Game Fest™ — was one particular reveal that some fans have been waiting for for the better part of a decade: Dragon Age: The Veilguard. And boy oh boy, was it ever a bewildering first look. This week, Zak and Aaron sit down to discuss their impressions of the newest iteration of Dragon Age 4, and why it seems to feel so little like the beloved games that came before it. They also discuss what's lost when IPs that used to have a strong identity throw what made them unique by the wayside in favor of mass appeal. Please, enjoy.Listen to Beach Girl on SpotifyCheck out edouggieart on EtsyCheck out even more edouggieart on Instagram

Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris continue their coverage of the summer games extravaganza they lovingly refer to as Not E3! This time around, they have a crazy number of showcases to break down, including the Future of Play Direct, Women Led Games Show, Ubisoft Forward, and honestly way too many more. So their summaries of many were cut a bit short because there's just now ay to cover THAT many games. They did, however, dedicate the appropriate amount of time to the biggest show of the week, the Xbox Games Showcase. After Sony's lackluster showing earlier this month, was Microsoft able to make the best of their time in the spotlight? Just how manly is Joanna Dark's jawline? (Hint: the internet is full of goons). What other amazing games will we all be looking forward to? Let's find out! At the top of the show, Dan gives us another update on his ongoing health issues, including numerous bouts of frustration with an inability to get actual answers. Meanwhile, Kris spent the week frustrated and tired. So good times were had all around! Oh, and then there's this dreadful song that his son has been listening to, and now you have to as well. Finally, in Week Old News, the first North American Nintendo commercial may have been unearthed, the PC gaming community continues to be as impressive as they are fast, a Kickstarter for a new NWC cartridge gets unsurprisingly shut down, a woman is arrested for smuggling an absurd number of Switch games in her bra, and more. Not-E3 is our favourite time of year! It's like a gamer Christmas. If that Christmas came with a bunch of promises instead of presents... Not-E3 is over, and all the game companies have shown their new games, new trailers, new teases and new games that they definitely won't cancel or close the studio for. Xbox bought the thunder and set the tone, and the rest of the game companies... Well, they had some announcements too. So, what exactly as an Xbox player can you be expected to look forward to? Thats what we hope to answer this episode. We crawl through all the thousands of game announcements from some of the biggest players, and some of the not so big players. From Ubisoft's tease of Anno 117 Pax Romana to the update to Skull & Bones, you can expect us even cover the bad announcements. Except the Sony one of course - because there's nothing to announce there! Just kidding! Or are we? June is #back2YourBacklog! And we're here to make sure you come out of June a better person. So, in other words, get stuck into your backlog and play those games that are taunting you. They're just sitting there and laughing at you. They say, "play me, play me" and you just ignore them. Well, not this month! We would direct you to our website, but we're having some technical difficulties. So, join the Discord instead. It's back! Well it's not, but the last week captured a little of what made E3s of old so special, thanks to tons of new announcements and fresh gameplay for games we're already excited about. Now the dust has settled, Matt, Jesse, and Alex look back at the games that really stood out and take on the challenge of picking a single game from the hundreds shown to crown the Best Game of Not-E3 (or BeGoNE3 for short). Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris are unfortunately not joined by Dean for th Cartoon Express because of dogs. (No really, there were dogs involved). But fortunately, there's a metric ton of new game news to talk about! That's right, it's officially Not E3 season, and this week was host to a crazy amount of new game announcements that warrant discussion. How did Geoff Keighley's soulless Summer Game Fest do? How did we not know about the annual Homebrew showcase? Why in the world would Kris be excited about the Power Rangers? Listen on to find out! At the top of the show, Dan updates everyone on his health situation, and what his impending diagnosis could mean for him, while Kris talks about the joys of taking his daughter to her first baseball game. There's also a lot of talk about Star Wars and Doctor Who, because Dan and Kris are nerds. Finally, in Week Old News, a bunch of stolen Playdates find their way home in unusual fashion, Google is responsible for a bunch ofNintendo leaks, Hatch Tales is delayed AGAIN, and Twitter continues to be a foul place full of grifters trying to profit off anger and hate. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris tackle the May 10 20 30 40, where they look back at notable game releases from 10, 20, 30, and 40 years ago this month. But these last few entries haven't been all that spectacular overall. Will this month be any different? Will the PS2 or Intellivision save the day, or will a baby of mundane releases suck all the fun out of things yet again? We'll find out! At the top of the show, Dan gets hit with a sudden bout of hypochondria, but still has time to play some rounds of Balatro. Meanwhile, Kris had a Memorial Day party and finally got to play a proper local 6-player match of Shredder's Revenge, plus some classic Wii Sports and X-Men arcade. He also gives his less than stellar impressions of Lunar Lander Beyond. Finally, in Week Old News, it's Not-E3 season, and Sony andMArvelout Entertainment kicked things off with some… well they certainly were game showcases. State of Play lacked farming simulations because Marvelous had them all, Astro makes a fantastic-looking comeback, and Silent Hill 2 looks kind of off. Also, more gross gamer discourse online, people are modding CRTs, Legend of Zelda LEGOs are officially a thing, and a whole lot more! Enjoy! On this episode of Random Encounter, we're chatting about the early access release of one of the most anticipated games in recent memory: Hades II.In October 2020, Supergiant Games' roguelike masterpiece Hades finally exited early access and entered the Steam and Epic libraries of countless gamers. t sure has been a while now hasn’t it? Well, we made sure to make it count with this new episode as we brought along John Unterseher from Super RPG Friends to round out this week’s table of chuckleheads! In an effort to talk shop on all of the recent announcements that took place while also trying to keep things Water Cooler with what we’ve been playing, we mixed it up a bit for this episode. John joins Andrew and George as they discuss which announcements made the most notable impression on us from Summer Gamefest block of announcements they’ve affectionately dubbed to be “Not E3” and then decide to steamroll right into what’s been in their consoles with 2023’s packed release schedule. Announcements of games to come along with games here and now ranging in Super Mario RPG, XDefiant, Project Octopath Traveler 2 , Persona 3 Reload, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Wonder, Sonic Superstars, Sand Land, Nicholas Cage, Mortal Kombat 1, AEW Fight Forever, and so much more. So sit down and clean that off-lavender shake off your lip as we bring you Press Pause Radio Episode 147, also—you don’t look so hot, just how much of that shake did you wolf down? Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. Finally, make sure to rate and subscribe to us on iTunes and YouTube, follow us on Twitch page and Twitter, and finally take part in our Facebook and Steam group!
Rey and Glenn talk about the various Not E3 presentations from Ubisoft, Capcom, PlayStation, and XBOX. Glenn reviews F1 ‘23 and ‘The Crusades', Rey reviews Pixel Ripped 1978 and Synapse for PSVR2. Glenn reviews the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro wireless headset.
We begin this episode talking about ghosts, because of course we do. We also chat about E3's influence and our relationship with it as both fans and games journalists, but honestly that bit isn't nearly exciting as when we're chatting about spooky things that have happened to us. We eventually remember what this podcast is actually about, quickly moving on to chat about our favourite games from this year's endless parade of Not-E3 showcases. Kicking us off, Rebecca can't wait to open her own portable second-hand bookshop in the brilliant looking Tiny Bookshop. She's also keen to get her hands on Still Wakes The Deep, an enigmatic horror game set aboard an oil rig off the coast of Scotland. Rachel on the other hand can't wait to play more of En Garde!, but she's also been enjoying clambering up cliff faces in Jusant and is intrigued by recursive puzzler Cocoon (which our Ed also reckons is good). True to form, Liam is excited for anti-capitalist cat game Revenant Hill, the gorgeous Sword Of The Sea and the quiet, rural vibes of Kibu. Seeing as its pride month (happy pride month!) section two is all about our picks from Itch's generous Queer Games Bundle. As always we wrap things up with our hyperfixations. Rachel has run out of things to watch, and insists you all give her recommendations by sending an email to podcast@rockpapershotgun.com. Rebecca has been reading Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli and Liam has been reading Hot Milk by Deborah Levy. Indiescovery is a podcast from RockPaperShotgun.com. All music is by Dylan Sitts; the songs are Tahoe Trip, Pool Sticker, and Express Check-in. Thanks for listening! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
