Summer Game Fest was this week, so we talk about the games that Sony, Microsoft, and third parties showed at this Not-E3 week. Included in this is the whiplash of 1666: Amsterdam between the trailer and the playable prologue, the difference between Tupac's estate and his family, and my hopeful take on Persona 6's direction. Crazy Taxi: World Tour was also announced, but has a disclaimer that generative AI was used in the assets, which makes it a non-starter for many fans. The Switch 2 will get a redesign in Europe that allows for an easily replaceable battery due to new EU regulations. Don't expect this design to come to the US, but any new Switch (such as a lite or OLED model) will most likely have the same feature. Then we talk to OLR about Summer Game Fest.
We blow out Not E3 2026 like only GameFace can as we take you through the 50 biggest games from the show! Extensive research gives you insight into every huge announcement! The Xbox Showcase, Geoff Keighely's Summer Game Fest event, Nintendo's Direct, and much more!

Then, in Week Old News, Yacht Club Games is safe… for now, Vampire Survivors gets wet, there's a new more affordable Morph on the way, Nintendo crosses over with Crocs, and more! Finally, in the Checkpoint, Kris gives the skinny on Bubsy 4D, but isn't super hot on Mina the Hollower. THIS WEEK -- Mo Skeletor Mo Problems. Also we talk Not-E3. Join us! Won't you?
We're that much closer to Evangelion Kart. This week, it's absolutely incredible how many awesome things got announced at Sony's State of Play and Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Showcase. Among those announcements and reveals, are God of War Laufey, Stellar Blade Blood Rain, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation. And those three are just a small sample of an endless barrage of premieres, updates, and gameplay from some of the coolest things the industry has cooking up. There's Star Wars, Wolverine, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and even Cuphead. And, no joke, that's still just scratching the surface. Not E3 is back and it delivered. Check out the show on BlueSky @MarkersOnTheMap.
The most wonderful and/or tedious time of the year has come once more: It's Not-E3 2026, when all of the video game giants share their biggest announcements for the year. As always, we're here to recap it, with thoughts on Sony's State of Play, the Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Showcase, across which we saw the unveiling of God of War Laufey, the sooner-than-expected Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the long-awaited reveal of Persona 6 and more gameplay of Persona 4 Revival, and much more, including Xbox's completely incoherent exclusivity ‘strategy.' We also find some time to quickly review Saros, the new PS5 exclusive from Housemarque, and talk about 007 First Light from Hitman developers IO Interactive. A very silly Monthly Ten rounds out the episode, in which Jonathan pitches 10 Star Wars projects for Disney to announce and then quickly abandon. Enjoy! On this episode of Random Encounter, we're digging for some sweet, sweet caffeine!First up, Bob is here to chat about Yacht Club Games' newest title, Mina the Hollower. Yacht Club struck gold a decade ago with their retro side-scroller Shovel Knight and its various campaigns, but since then, they've apparently been on the bubble financially. Well, that doesn't seem to be a problem anymore because Mina the Hollower appears to be a hit! This top-down, Link's Awakening-esque and Castlevania-esque soulslike currently has everyone talking, and Bob and Jono certainly can't stop chatting about it! Spoiler alert: it's absolutely fantastic!Next, Audra and Mike are here for a steaming cup of Coffee Talk Tokyo. As the third entry in this lo-fi, relaxing visual novel series, the game moves its setting from rainy Seattle to neon Tokyo. Does the charm of Coffee Talk successfully make the jump across the Pacific?Oh, and we also chat about our hopes for next week's Not-E3 (and be sure to stay tuned for our 2026 Not-E3 Extravaganza episode)! On this week's Random Encounter, we're back to business as usual! Not-E3 and the release of the Switch 2 hit us like a hammer. Chapters 1+2 released in 2018 and 2021 respectively, so for folks out there starved for Fox's trademark meta-narratives and ear-delighting music, these new chapters are a balm to the SOUL.Then, Zek is here to talk about the new remaster of the PS2-era Atlus action RPG, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner – Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, now titled RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army! Now with improved graphics, a revamped combat system, and a slightly shorter title, will fans of Atlus' modern output like Persona 5 and Metaphor: ReFantazio find anything to love in this film-noir, detective-styled world? Our world famous #AprilAchievementChallenge has come to an end. And do we have the recap for you - all the in-and-outs as they happened! Gears of War is going to PlayStation, its true, For all the good that will do... Xbox really seems keen to destroy its brand. As it sends its tent pole games into competitor's hand. But the games only flow towards one way, As God of War has not come to Xbox this day... We're sorry for starting the podcast off with this depressing news, but blame Lee. So far, of the core Xbox franchises - Forza, Gears and Halo, only Halo remains and Xbox exclusive. But for how long? By the end on Not-E3 this year, will Xbox have any exclusives left? Probably not. Then the only thing going for it is Game Pass... The world we could have been in, if only Microsoft stick by their guns and had faith in their products - Xbox included. Just imagine what would have happened if Call of Duty was exclusive! Xbox may even be the no.1 console... In saying that - it's not like we aren't getting any games! Thanks to a renewed Xbox roadmap, we can see the next few games planned and we're sure this will be expanded on during not-E3 as well! In addition, Game Pass continues to shower us with games - some we have bought, and some we were going to buy. This is the service that keeps on serving... up good games, that is! While there's a lot to be critical of, Xbox is where our hearts are. Even if its not where Microsoft's heart is any more. So in preparation, we're getting ready for Tencent to buy Xbox from Microsoft and release The T-Box! Tongue in cheek, of course! The next event is in June and it's all about your backlog! @GameAgentET (OGiH) and The Six-Button Samurai are joined by @Hoptimus (RFC) of Retro Futurist Culture to grapple with the arrival of Nintendo Switch 2 after the Direct hype cooled a bit. While we're still pretty excited about the hardware itself, the nickel-and-dime nature of charging for updated visuals for older games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (not to mention overall game prices) feel a bit greedy. The gang also takes on the uneven state of fighting games in 2025, specifically some of the upheaval in the Tekken 8 community following their Season 2 launch, some weird marketing moves from SNK. and what may be next for Street Fighter VI in Season 3. Summer Games Fest is also within shouting distance, and we're intrigued to see what Not-E3 has in store at such a weird point for the industry. Warning: The following episode may make you quite sad, angry or annoyed. But, hey, don't blame us, we just read the news that other people have reported on... In good news, Minecraft is getting an update! While it's no Super Duper Graphics Pack that was promised way back in 2017, it does bring enhanced lighting, and other cool stuff. They call this update Vibrant Visuals, and hopefully this is laying the foundation for whats to come, with Mojang building up over time to getting us amazing looking giant blocks. From now now, we'll be seeing Minecraft in a whole new light... Microsoft celebrated its 50th anniversary. And it was all about Copilot. Like, come on Microsoft - you have disrupted so many industries, gaming included - and you chose to focus on Copilot. Oh, we got a new dynamic background for Xbox. Thanks, I suppose... Atomfall looks like its a massive hit, thanks to the Game Pass effect. Although reports of bugs, lost saves, audio issues and more are plaguing those achievement hunters and completionists. Probably best to wait for a few patches before diving into this one. And Nintendo had a Direct. Apart from some exorbitant game pricing (seriously - $80 for Forza Mario Kart Horizon!), we got a bunch of new games coming to Xbox. Pity none stand out, as Nintendo either showed off what we already know (hello Silksong), and a bunch of indie games that look right at home on the Switch. Maybe next Direct, we can expect some more excitement, but until June and Not-E3 happens, we're probably going to be hanging out for any news. It's back! Well it's not, but the last week captured a little of what made E3s of old so special, thanks to tons of new announcements and fresh gameplay for games we're already excited about. Now the dust has settled, Matt, Jesse, and Alex look back at the games that really stood out and take on the challenge of picking a single game from the hundreds shown to crown the Best Game of Not-E3 (or BeGoNE3 for short). Of course, we want to hear what got you excited too, so send in your top picks to ign_ukfeedback@ign.com. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
