Episode 1: Holly Ransom “Honey, if you walk past it, you tell the world it's okay.” It was these words from her grandmother as a five-year-old that set Holly Ransom on her path. That quote is etched in her mind and something she checks in with regularly, as a yard stick for where she and we as a society are now and where we're headed. From that moment on, she embraced leadership, as the youngest person internationally to have been a Rotary Club President, a Port Adelaide Football Club Board member, the CEO of Emergent, author of The Leading Edge, Chair of the Pride Cup, one of the AFR's '100 Most Influential Australian Women', internationally acclaimed speaker and leadership trailblazer. Jason Ball is the founder of Pride Cup, an initiative that's grown into a national movement for LGBTI+ pride and inclusion across sporting codes. He's a Young Victorian of the Year, and is running for the hotly contested seat of Higgins in the upcoming Federal election.
Alison Burgos, Co-Founder and Vice President of the KindRED Pride Foundation talks with Emmy Winner Charlotte Robinson host of OUTTAKE VOICES™ about the launch of “Red Shirt Pride Day” an annual global movement on the first Saturday of June to get a million LGBTQ individuals and allies to wear a red shirt not only in celebration of Pride Month but as a message of “KindRED” spirit in these challenging times. The link between red and Pride originated in 1991 when Disney cast members and the Central Florida LGBTQ Community decided to meet socially on the first Saturday in June in front of the Castle at Magic Kingdom. They wore red t-shirts as an expression of pride and to identify their “kindred spirits” since they had only met on a bulletin board and never in person. “Gay Disney” flourished and quickly grew to be one of the largest LGBTQ annual gatherings in the world. The growth was in part the result of the national exposure brought on by the protests of far-right groups threatening to boycott. The LGBTQ community responded in droves and year after year have journeyed to Disney World Resorts from around the world. Red is also the first color of the rainbow flag and stands as a symbol of life and passion. Burgos hopes to start a yearly worldwide tradition with Red Shirt Pride Day building connections with LGBTQ communities and allies around the world as a sign of solidarity for those who believe in diversity, inclusion, equality, safe expression and kindness. The KindRED Pride Foundation will inaugurate its Red Shirt Campaign at the official kickoff of Pride Cup the annual LGBTQ multi-sport competition held during Gay Disney weekend that takes place June 1st to June 4th in Orlando, Florida. We talked to Alison about what she hopes to accomplish with Red Shirt Pride Day and her spin on our LGBTQ issues. KindRED Pride Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to support the endeavors of like-minded charities for the education, promotion and celebration of Diversity, Inclusion, Equality, Safe Expression and Kindness. The organization is aligning with national, regional and local non-profits who provide valuable resources to fight bullying, teen homelessness, HIV services and legal/business/housing services to the LGBTQ community. Áine chats with Jason Ball, whose personal experience of coming out as a young gay man involved in his local AFL team in Yarraglen led to his passionate activism, the establishment of the Pride Cup and development of resources to educate communities and sports teams about inclusivity and the LGTBIQ+ community. "Ball started a petition on change.org on 9 September 2012 that called on the Australian Football League (AFL) to play "No To Homophobia" television commercials on the big screen of the 2012 AFL Grand Final and also commit to a Pride Round. The petition received over 29,000 signatures and gained national and international media coverage. The AFL agreed to screen the No to Homophobia TVCs during the preliminary finals that year. Ball was invited to lead the 18th Pride March Victoria alongside his teammates from the Yarra Glen Football Club. They were also joined by AFL footballers Brock McLean and Daniel Jackson, marking the first time AFL players had been formally involved in the event. In 2013, Ball partnered with the AFL Players Association to launch a social media campaign tackling homophobic language in sport, featuring some of the AFL's biggest names, including Jobe Watson, Scott Pendlebury and Andrew Swallow." (Wikipedia, 13/6/2022). Jason has been recognised with numerous awards and acknowledgements including being named the Victorian Young Australian of the Year in 2017.

Pride Cup involves so much more than just playing football in rainbows. In the lead up to events participating teams are involved in education sessions and learn about how we can be more inclusive to the whole LGBTIQ+ community. Barwon Leagues Senior Womens Football Pride Cup in 2021 will feature two games at the Anthony Costa Oval in South Geelong on Sunday 27/06/21 1pm Division 2 - St Mary's (2) Vs. Drysdale and 3pm Division 1 - St Mary's (1) Vs. Grovedale. Molly (she/her) and Grace (she/her) from Division 1 St Mary's discuss the 2019 event and what they are hoping to see at future events. Although this years event is scaled back we are glad to be back playing footy together. This will be St Mary' Division 2, Grovedale (Division 1) and Drysdale's (Division 2) first year involved in the Barwon Pride Cup. Steph (she/her) and Georgie (she/her) from Division 2 Drysdale Hawk's discuss visibility and acceptance over the years and how far we still have to go. Jason Ball, the 2017 Young Australian of the year for Victoria. Jason's an LGBTI and mental health advocate and is the current candidate for the State of Higgins in the federal election. In 2012 Jason came out as being gay. But coming and doing so only the second male Aussie Royals football player at any level to publicly come out in the national media. What snowballed from there was a movement that Jason has been in pursuit of ever since. A desire to want to transform both grass root sporting organizations in Australia and national sporting bodies into more inclusive environments for LGBTI Australians. Commodating in an organization Jason now runs called Pride Cup. In this conversation we're gonna talk about the importance of creating inclusive and welcoming environments. The power of people's reactions when they hear information when people share their stories. And the significance of personal stories in changing hearts, minds and attitudes. If you're anything like me, they'll be multiple parts of this conversation that leave you reflecting for some time after you listen to it. I hope you really enjoy it.
