After emerging as Team USA's top 100 freestyle relay option at the Paris Olympics, Hunter Armstrong had planned to take 6 months off of training before getting back into the pool with his sights set on LA28. Life had other plans. After suddenly getting dropped by his primary sponsor in late 2024, Armstrong had to stop training completely, working odd jobs, including swim clinics, construction, and substitute teaching, in order to pay his mortgage. He was going to Pro Swims, but really only competing for the fun of it, having little to no training under his belt. After the Ft Lauderdale pro swim in May, which he thought would be the last meet of his career, a new sponsor contacted him about a potential partnership. Now with renewed life in and outside of swimming, Armstrong is taking his time getting back into serious training. Not swimming all the time forced the Olympic champion to find out who he was without his sport, and he's still enjoying that process. Since he has almost no training under his belt, Armstrong is forgoing the US World Trials in Indianapolis, choosing to focus on the Pro Championships in Irvine at the beginning of August instead. Though it didn't all go to plan, Armstrong is now back in the pool with his sights set on LA28.

The first phase, estimated at $100 million, involves constructing grade-separated interchanges at the intersections of Georgia 316 with Bethlehem and Barber Creek roads in Barrow County. The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to issue a request for proposals in July, with the winning contractor announced in December. Despite initial plans to use one provider for both curriculums, the board's choice means there will now be a split between the district's health and sex education programs. HealthSmart will be utilized for the health curriculum, while Choosing the Best will remain the sex education curriculum, at least for now. During the discussion, there was some confusion among board members regarding the timeline and the possibility of having no sex education curriculum for a year. However, district staff confirmed that Choosing the Best, which has been in place for over 20 years, will continue to be in place. The controversy surrounding the proposed sex education curriculum, also provided by HealthSmart, has focused on concerns about promoting abstinence, addressing gender identity, and textbook images. Some board members expressed their preference for using the latest version of Choosing the Best, citing positive outcomes such as lower rates of sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy in the county. Others are eager to begin the review process for a new sex education curriculum. On Episode 8 we're so fortunate to have one of my favorite people in the lacrosse world Brendan Bomberry. I was lucky enough in my early coaching career to get to teach, and coach Brendan at The Hill Academy. In our “dorm house” I saw first hand how he'd get home after school, hockey or lax practice & coach Noble workouts and still want to play Goalie Wars or Back Yard Lax w/a tennis ball. As a player, Brendan has since gone on to win Minto Cups for the Six Nations Arrows, and Pro Championships for the MLL Bayhawks and NLL Georgia Swarm.. For Team Iroquois, he has won a bronze medal in the Box and Field World Games!! As a young man, he has just co-authored a book and is doing big things with Turtle Island Lacrosse!! He has also taken an active role on social media to talk about social and cultural issues. On this episode, we Lax Poetic about Brendan's love for lacrosse, cultural awareness, goalie wars, playing with a tennis ball, his experiences in the game, the Swarm locker room, playing different roles on teams, Team Iroquois & the World Games, his mindset, and how he is now a role model for future players and what that means to him & So much more!! Obviously we had to mention our legendary @thehill Grade 10 Canadian history class, with Zach Miller, Dallas Bridle, RJ, and Nick Ritchie…Nick..Bomber won more mintos!! Lastly, we talk about how much of an internet tough guy @bubbavoigt is and that he's soft in person. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brice-queener6/support
