Kevin is the WUC's medical correspondent and he discovered we're very close to finding a cure for something and he's VERY excited about it.
It's the new year and with that comes the chatter around goals, resolutions, and making big change in your life. I don't know about you, but the “new year, new you” vibe doesn't resonate with me like it used to. In fact, I think it's a bunch of bullshit blocking us from one of the most powerful energies for change out there: self-acceptance. In this episode, I'm chatting with dietitian Kim Tasker, about what self-acceptance means and how it helps to expand who we are as a person, so we can stop chasing the unrealistic expectations we place on ourselves. Some things we unpack in the episode: The impact of perfectionism, fear, and judgment on your goals and how it leads to a forced, rigid mindset. What self-acceptance actually means (hint hint..it doesn't mean giving up on yourself). The connection between extreme goals and overcompensating for areas of your life where you feel lack. How the nervous system and chronic stress influence goal setting. I hope this episode is a loving reminder that you don't have to become a totally new person this year – the person you are is already enough. Kim Tasker is an Intuitive Eating and Mindset Dietitian who is passionate about helping others build a relationship with themselves that is based in compassion, acceptance, and love. (00:00 - 13:11) - Tuesday's WUC opens to sad news as Anthony Richardson is done for the season as surgery seems to be the way the team will be going. It still isn't a 100% certainty but Jim Irsay said in interviews yesterday that Richardson will likely be out for the season. The news coming out of the Colts Camp seems to be a bummer for the past week. Some clips from head coach Shane Steichen about Richardson needing surgery. Rick Carlisle will be on the show top of the 8 o'clock hour. (13:12 - 20:24) - Morning Checkdown (20:25 - 40:32) - More discussion on Anthony Richardson's injury news. The probability of surgery or of rehabbing the shoulder. Kevin says that biggest thing he wants from this whole situation is clarity on the future. A bit of talk about the potential of where college basketball prospect Boogie Fland will be playing. Should the Colts already be thinking about drafting another quarterback? Kevin brings up the statistic that 1 out of every 6 times Richardson threw the ball, he got hurt. He also had a variety of different kinds of injuries. (40:33 - 1:11:44) - Pacers head-coach Rick Carlisle joins the show. Coach Carlisle actually had the chance to meet Colts head-coach Shane Steichen before the football season began. Moving to Pacers talk, Carlisle has really enjoyed the vibe of the team this season. Bennedict Mathurin is continuing to make strides as a potential future star. The team needs to work on fouling. Coach goes into detail about all the news draft picks and new signees, how they have performed up to expectations. The team has been picking up their 3-point shooting this pre-season. They are shooting 48 a game compared to the mid 30's last season. (1:11:45 - 1:21:50) - Is Shane Steichen going to change up the gameplan for the Colts next game? Less passing and more running. Steichen is always first to blame the coaching rather than the players. How much does that actually help the team though? (1:21:51 - 1:31:33) - More discussion over Stephen Holder's interview with Jim Irsay from last night. Irsay revealed that things are most likely leaning toward Richardson getting surgery but talks are ongoing. Talk turns to what are the other pieces that Indianapolis needs to address to turn this team into a championship contender. Several other players like Pittman are in a contract year, what can the Colts do if they want to keep him. (1:31:34 - 2:00:14) - Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star joins The Wake Up Call to discuss his story covering Michael Pittman Jr. and his reaction to Jonathan Taylor's new contract. Pittman thinks that every player has the ability to take a page out of Taylor's book when it comes to future contract negotiations. Given the Colts current injury concerns are they at risk of over spending on other position players in the short term. Atkins talks about how Richardson hasn't had time to fully develop a passing game. The Colts need to balance not bringing him back too soon, with teaching him how to stay healthy on the field. Which is a big ask for a 21-year-old rookie. (2:00:15 - 2:08:54) - Pop Quiz (2:08:55 - 2:18:48) - The Spanish announcers for Monday Night Football did not have a radio booth and were calling their game on the side of the field. The Show made the Peegs message board. Final touches on Anthony Richardson's potential surgery. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
(00:00 - 14:54) - Thursday's WUC begins with a "bummer" talking about last nights events with the Pacer's pre-season loss to the Houston Rockets, and the Colts injury news. The Colts are looking to take a sturdy lead in the AFC South over Jacksonville on Sunday. Anthony Richardson was in a sling in practice the other day. Would you rather Richardson return for the final three games of the season below 100% or wait until next season but he has to get surgery. (14:55 - 19:54) - Morning Checkdown (19:55 - 43:37) - More reactions on the Anthony Richardson news regarding his injury and how much time he will be out for. Is surgery on the table? It seems more likely with each passing day. How are the Colts going to handle all the potential contracts that are expiring at the end of the season along with their cap space. (43:38 - 1:11:35) - Mike DiRocco, the ESPN writer for the Jacksonville Jaguars joins the show. The guys and DiRocco do a quick recap of the Jags season and their last win in London over the Bills. DiRocco is hopeful for the Jags playoff chances looking at the remainder of their schedule. Will Jacksonville be a bit jet lagged coming back from London? Mike settles the question of "did the Jags get to pick their opponent or do they just get a guaranteed home game". What can Colts fans expect from Gardner Minshew as a starter? (1:11:36 - 1:27:20) - From one guest to another as James Boyd of the Athletic calls in to discuss more Colts football. What happened when the Jonathan Taylor news broke while Boyd was getting a haircut. He had to hop out of the chair and get an article written in the barbershop as soon as his haircut was finished. The one question he wishes he could have asked Taylor was "would he have played for the Colts again if the extension never happened." More talk regarding Richardson's injury. It was alarming to Boyd when Richardson could not lift his throwing arm. (1:27:21 - 1:31:17) - Rodger Goodell to sign another NFL commissioner contract. Some birthday shout outs. Sam makes a bet on the Phillies. (1:31:18 - 1:56:20) - The classic iPhone vs. Android debate. What to expect with Minshew taking the reins on offense for the bulk of the season now. Should the Colts try to ride the hot hand with Zack Moss after one of the best games of his career, or is it time to just let Jonathan Taylor get back to his spot as the primary back? Kevin gushes over some Notre Dame for a little while. The first two rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament will be here in Indianapolis. (1:56:21 - 2:09:00) - Jason Hammer of WIBC's "Hammer & Nigel" joins the show to talk some sports betting picks for the week. The "Gambling Degenerate" talk about baseball bets he is taking during these MLB playoffs. He says that the wind is going to be a factor in tonight's Thursday Night Football matchup between the Broncos and Chiefs. What bet would Hammer take between the IU vs. Michigan game or USC vs. Notre Dame. This weekend is a pretty weak line up for college football according to Andy. Hammer gives his gut feeling on the Colts this weekend and how he feels about Richardson's injury. (2:09:01 - 2:18:04) - Pop QuizSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
