It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get into the rest of the work week. The skeleton crew kicked off the Monday episode by complaining about the co-hosts not being in attendance for the podcast. If there's one thing the boys are good at, it's piling on their teammates when they're not there to defend themselves. Getting back to business, however, the conversation turned to Friday's win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and how it was a big night on the ice and after the game. After the game on Friday, the Oilers added Craig MacTavish and Randy Gregg's names to the Ring of Honour, which led to a conversation about some of our favourite memories of those two players. Wanye then told a story about writing a letter to Dr. Gregg when he was a kid, and how the former Cup winner actually took the time to write him back and how meaningful that letter was to a young hockey fan. Changing gears, the podcast discussed a wide range of topics, from the Lil Durk arrest to food trucks to the World Series to bad tribute statues and everything in between. Starting with the state of hip hop, the guys walked through the insanity of the Lil Durk arrest and how some of these rappers just can't escape the lifestyle. We then discussed the Dwayne Wade statue reveal from this past weekend, and how it could arguably be one of the worst ones ever made. That led the guys to wonder how much prep the Oilers will have to do to prepare for the McDavid and Draisaitl statues that will hopefully come down the line. Hosted on Acast. It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and is ready to massage your ear holes. This week, we're talking about the Leon Draisaitl extension, long weekend plans, some Baggedmilk Trivia, and whatever random nonsense we could think of to fill the time. The guys started this week's podcast with a delicious debate about how many Oilers we believe could realistically score 30 goals during the 2024-25 season. Given the calibre of forwards on Edmonton's roster, it's fair to drink the Kool-Aid and buy into the idea that the Oilers could have upward of four or five guys to reach the 30-goal mark. Despite the slow news time, the boys still had a few items to talk about from this past week, including MacT and Randy Gregg being the next players included in the Oilers' Hall of Fame. That led us to discuss who might be on next year's list and where the cutoff should be for inclusion. Just because we may feel a certain way about specific players, does that mean the Oilers will include them in their Hall of Fame? Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Even though there wasn't much to talk about, the boys still managed to yammer on for over an hour about everything from the Oilers to the Elks to chiming in on what's been happening at the summer Olympics.https://twitter.com/ONradiopodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/onradiopodcast/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!

A new week is here and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through what's left of your Monday. On today's podcast, the guys looked at Tyler's time in Montreal for the NHL Entry Draft, Reid Schaefer, Oilers rumours, and a whole lot more.To kick things off, the guys got the podcast started with Tyler's airport stories after he got pulled into secondary after his baggage set off the alarms for drugs. Yet, despite the alarms going off, Yaremchuk was able to navigate his way through this case of mistaken identity and back through to his gate. He then told the story about sitting in front of Jay Woodcroft on the plane and how the Oilers' new head coach was a good samaritan to those around him. Would you expect anything less from Woody? Sticking with the Oilers, the guys bombarded Tyler with all kinds of trade ideas of varying qualities and it was clear from the jump that he was not at all interested. Changing gears, Chalmers wanted to talk about the Riverhawks game that he, Wanye, and Baggedmilk all attended on Sunday and how Dr. Randy Gregg and co did an amazing job of giving the park new life. From there, the podcast fell off the rails as the guys talked about everything from rap albums to football to Big Brother and everything in between. David Urquhart was appointed full-time head coach of the McGill University men's hockey team in May, 2021. A 2018 inductee to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame, Urquhart spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach of the San Diego Gulls, an American Hockey League affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. During that span, he helped guide the team to a 92-60-17 record in regular season play and three playoff berths. The 36-year-old native of Thorold, Ont., is the 30th bench boss in team history and the 13th former McGill player to take the helm of the historic 144-year-old program, which played its first game on Jan. 31, 1877. He replaced Liam Heelis, who was serving as interim bench boss. Urquhart played for McGill and served four years as a full-time assistant coach (2014-2018) under the direction of Kelly Nobes. He also was head coach of the Serbian national team at the 2018 IIHF Div. 2 world hockey championship. A graduate of McGill's Desautels school of management in 2008, Urquhart majored in finance and entrepreneurship. In 2019, he completed a master's degree in sports psychology at McGill. For his thesis, he interviewed six of the most successful coaches in U SPORTS and the NCAA to discuss their coaching vision and learn how they built cultures of excellence to win multiple national championships for their respective programs. Urquhart was recruited to McGill in 2004 out of the GHJHL, where he skated for the Welland Cougars (2001-2004) and Thorold Blackhawks (2000-2002). During his McGill playing career, Urquhart was a three-time OUA all-star from 2004 to 2008. He also merited All-Canadian honours -- earning a berth on the second team in 2006-07 -- and concluded a brilliant university career with 23 goals and 107 points, along with 330 penalty minutes, in 147 games overall. More than a dozen years after his last varsity contest, he remains tied with Mike Babcock as the ninth-highest overall point-scoring defenceman in McGill history. He trails Marc-André Dorion (192 points), Dominic Talbot-Tassi (190), Gilles Hudon (152), Martin Routhier (135), Ryan McKiernan (117), David Bahl (110), Bryan Larkin (109) and Luc Latulippe (109). Named to the OUA all-rookie squad during his freshman year, Urquhart won the Bobby Bell Trophy as Team MVP in his third collegiate season and in his senior year, he captained McGill to the Ontario University Athletics conference championship in 2008. It marked McGill's first Queen's Cup league title since 1946. Fluent in three languages -- including French and Italian -- Urquhart also speaks some German. He was a two-time OUA conference nominee for the Randy Gregg trophy, awarded nationally for combining hockey ability with academics and citizenship. He made the Principal's Student-athlete Honour Roll, merited Academic All-Canadian honours, won the Richard Pound Trophy for athletics leadership over his McGill career and received the University's prestigious Gretta Chambers Award for student leadership. Urquhart went on to a solid professional career, including stints in the AHL with Hartford (2008-10) and Hamilton (2010-11), where the six-foot, 195-pound rearguard played 130 regular season games, scoring six goals and 23 points to go along with 78 penalty minutes. He also had stints in the East Coast Hockey League with Charlotte and Wheeling. He then headed overseas to play for three years in Italy, where he patrolled the blueline for teams in Valpellice (2011-12) and Pontebba (2012-13) before guiding Ritten-Renon to a league championship in 2014. To chat about his lifelong affair with baseball, and what to expect from the baseball facility, Russell spoke with Dr. Gregg on Daybreak.

Episode 8 of On Guard For Three marks a few firsts for us. Our first female guest is Joyce Slipp, the starting point guard for Canada's first ever basketball entrant at the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976. She's also our first Hall of Famer, an honoree of the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame. Before we get to Joyce, we discuss the impact of Covid-19 on our world and the basketball world, we rant about Rudy Gobert (5:15), read a statement from the province's chief medical officer (8:15), and predict the future a little. With the esteemed Mrs. Slipp, we begin as always with the Magic Question (11:30), learn how she grew up in the Moncton area playing golf, volleyball and field hockey too (14:00), the familiar names (to Monctonians for sure) that were her first coaching and teaching influences (17:00)How different the environment was for student athletes when she arrived at UNB (18:30), the early rules of women's basketball (20:00) and the sport she would have played if she'd been allowed (22:45). Joyce talks about adjusting to the sport after the women's rules were overhauled (24:00), the breakout game that got her a huge break (24:45), her early days with the national team and her positional change (25:30), and her first international trip with Team Canada (27:45). Joyce talks about creating her own drills to advance her skills (29:00), how she broke out as a scorer (21:30), the dominant team of the early 70's on the world stage (32:00) and paints us a picture of the opening ceremonies in Montreal (33:15). Joyce also name drops (we asked her to) about her neighbours in the Olympic Village (36:45), transitioning to teaching and coaching after retiring from playing (40:15), leaving UNB….and then coming back (44:00), coaching while….literally….starting a family (46:00), working with the field hockey national team and the inventive ways she used as a mom to keep her kids around while she travelled North America with them (47:30), We discuss basketball in her hometown of Fredericton. (49:00) and Joyce has some fascinating comments about the state of women's basketball in this country and in general (50:30), as well, we discuss, with the growth of the game everywhere, why it is that events like the BioSteel All-Canadian teams and the national teams boast very few players from outside the greater Toronto area (56:00). Brock posts up Joyce with his BIG THREE! (61:45), and he gets her talking of the dangers of the old Gunningsville Bridge, going into Halls of Fame with the likes of Randy Gregg and Jamie Russell, and the grandkids! Finally, we make Joyce Commissioner for a Day (67:30).
