Episode 366 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features an information-packed interview with PWHL, OHL, and Hockey Canada goalie coach Brad Fogal. In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Fogal, who also runs the Goalie Training Institute in Ontario, walks us through his unique path to NCAA and minor pro hockey before becoming a full-time coach, and how it informs his work now on the other side of the whistle. We caught up with Fogal while he was working with Team Canada's under-18 women's team, but he also works with PWHL Toronto and has been in the OHL with Owen Sound, and he shared advice on the importance of building a foundation -- and what that looks like at different ages -- consistent terminology, the biomechanics of good movement, adding game realism and decision-making to drills, working with multiple goalies and so much more.In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop It Goaltending U the App, Hutch welcomes you to the Goalie (Parent) Union with his top-10 tips (actually top-11, with a bonus) for new goalie parents going into their first season. We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Eric Comrie with a great breakdown of a late-game 6-on-5 and how to manage movement patterns and read releases even when you get a little behind a play, with a hat tip to Connor Hellebuyck for some of the advice he shares. And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the Vaughn Ion Pro pads and gloves, which, counter to the name, is actually a second price-point line that still comes with plenty of top-end features.

Episode 365 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a great interview with NCAA champion and Frozen Four MVP Johnny Hicks. In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Hicks walks us through the preparation and process that allowed him to mostly sit for half a season, then come off the bench and go 16-0-1 and set an NCAA record with a .957 save percentage before backstopping the University of Denver to a National Championship with a .955 save percentage in the playoffs. It's a great story made all the more remarkable by his unique path, from a winless first season in the BCHL, to a powerhouse team in the AJHL — and the unique lessons from both stops — then the WHL for one year before going to school. Add in an invite to the Edmonton Oilers development camp this summer for the undrafted Hicks and it really is a can't miss interview. In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, Hutch talks about preparing for the fast approaching season and why chasing late extra reps before tryouts and training camps can often do more harm than good, both between the pipes and between the ears.We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Dustin Wolf with a quick but important breakdown on when to use RVH and when to hold your feet on passes from below the goal line, something that's been a theme in a lot of recent Pro Reads. And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Bauer Supreme F50 Pro, a second-price point stick loaded with top-level options, including one never before offered by Bauer at anything other than the highest prices.

Episode 364 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a can't-miss interview with Swedish pro and former U.S. Olympian Strauss Mann.In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Mann, a former University of Michigan standout, takes us through the ups and downs of his first four years of pro hockey since the Olympics. From struggling with situations beyond his control that limited opportunities in North America, to rediscovering his passion for the game in Europe and setting top Swedish League shutout records and winning a championship last season, the lessons Mann shares from his journey really are can't-miss for goalies, coaches and parents. They include a strong focus on meditation, and advice on how to make it a valuable tool, which in part led to a new venture off the ice called Haus (buildyourhaus.com) that offers mentorship and coaching circles as well as 1-on-1 work, not just for goalies but for their parents too, as well as a team-focused five-part speaker series this season of virtual and asynchronous workshops from world-class coaches in performance and personal development. In the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, Hutch shares key lessons and takeaways from the parent perspective from InGoal's trip to the 2026 USA Hockey Goaltending Symposium in Boston. We also review the latest Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, featuring Eric Comrie breaking down the keys to knowing when to attack and when to sit back on an open look off the rush. And in our weekly gear segment we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a look at the new Warrior Alpha Surge S50, a lower price point version of the all new Surge pad with lots of the same features and a slightly softer flex profile.

HOLY HEALTH Habits and Rhythms to Heal Your Body with Human Performance Expert and Longevity Practitioner, Justin Roethlingshoefer

The Happy Hustle Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 11, 2026 35:16

Have you ever hit every goal on paper and still felt like something inside you was falling apart? That's the question at the heart of this episode, and honestly, it's one I think about a lot as an entrepreneur myself. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I sit down with Justin Roethlingshofer, a human performance expert, data driven health strategist, and longevity practitioner with over two decades of experience optimizing health and performance. Justin has a background that includes postgraduate doctoral research in cellular biology, work inside the National Hockey League, and now a powerful new book called Holy Health, Habits and Rhythms to Heal Your Body and Transform Your Life. He's also the health coach behind worship artist Brandon Lake, helping him sustain fifty shows on tour while keeping his body, mind, and spirit intact. What makes this episode matter is that Justin doesn't just talk theory. He's lived the full spectrum of health struggles himself, from an obese kid to an anorexic kid to a burned out high achiever who was told he might not see thirty five. And even with all his credentials, he still had to learn that true health isn't about optimization. It's about alignment, mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. We also dive into the story of Brian Johnson, the tech entrepreneur spending millions a year trying to reverse his aging, who's now dealing with a painful autoimmune condition. Justin breaks down why chasing perfect numbers without addressing the root of chronic stress can actually work against you, and why your body can't tell the difference between mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional stress. It just knows stress, and it responds. Here are a few takeaways that stuck with me. First, your cells need three things to thrive: oxygen, detoxification, and nutrients, and most of us are running environments that are starving them of all three. Second, sleep isn't optional. It's during deep sleep that your lymphatic system actually turns on and clears out the junk your body's been holding onto all day. Third, honoring a weekly Sabbath isn't just a spiritual discipline, it's backed by a study of 250,000 people showing those who kept one had eleven extra years of high quality output in their lives. Fourth, most of us are operating from a wounded place, whether that's a performer heart, a pleaser heart, or a protector heart, and until we deal with that root, we'll keep trading our health for a version of success that never actually satisfies. And fifth, healing isn't just physical. It requires your identity to be settled in who God says you are, not who the world demands you to be. What really got me was Justin's honesty about his own journey. Even as the expert, even with all the degrees and the leadership positions, he still hit a wall in a sauna five years ago and had to surrender the whole performance driven identity he'd built his life around. That kind of vulnerability from someone who coaches high performers for a living, it hits different. If you're ready to stop chasing health like it's another goal to conquer and start understanding what your body actually needs to heal, this conversation will shift the way you think about it. Justin's message is simple but it's not easy. You are designed to heal, you're created to thrive, and holy health is the path there. Go listen to the full episode at https://happyhustle.com/podcast. You'll walk away with a completely different lens on what it actually means to be healthy, and maybe the permission you didn't know you needed to stop striving and start healing. What does Happy Hustlin' mean to you? For Justin, happy hustlin' is being able to have the capacity to carry the calling that God has put on your life. This past weekend, I had the distinct displeasure of participating in an event called “The Muddy Dash,” put on by the company EventLab. I used to put on bike race events, and I have participated in I don't know how many athletic events. Without a doubt, this was by far the absolute worst experience in almost every way from an event planning standpoint. Way too many participants for the venue, resulting in standstill traffic on single lane roads for over an hour. Not enough staff to process the participants. An unimaginative course with few built obstacles. The “EPIC PARTY” at the end was just a guy in a tent playing music. The whole affair was pretty chaotic and sad, well under what was marketed on the website.  This wasn't a one-off situation either. If you go online and look at reviews for Muddy Dash, you'll find many of the same comments. Regardless of the location around the US, it seems that the experience is just as bad. It takes real commitment to continuously go that far below expectations and seemingly do nothing to fix it.  On the other hand, it was a great example of what happens when you get THE UN-WOW wrong. Another positive from the day was the way in which the participants created a wonderful vibe despite the other short-comings. It was especially great how you had people of different body types, ages, athletic abilities, costumes, all creating this kind of “community of the moment”, laughing and joking with one another. We were all there to have fun through physical activity. There was no timer and no one seemed to care about their speed. We just wanted to be active in a different kind of way than just going to the gym or going for a run. It is amazing how people coming together to exercise can even overcome the greatest attempts to sabotage an experience. My guest today knows a lot about exercise and physical fitness. Justin Roethlingshoefer grew up in Canada playing hockey (as one does). His focus on fitness then extended to his college major in Exercise Science and a masters in Exercise Physiology. From there, he worked with teams such as Washington Capitols, Anaheim Ducks, and the National Hockey League as a performance coach. Today, he is the Director of Performance for The Hockey Summit and the Founder of “Own It,” a health system for high performing leaders. He also is the author and founder of Holy Health, which is his effort to bridge “Scripture and science, helping individuals, pastors, and churches restore health of body, mind, and spirit.” And the book Holy Health is coming on August 11th.  We talk about his early interest in physical fitness and transformation, leading to his current focus today.  Justin talks about the need to take a more holistic approach to health that incorporates the spiritual with the physical. While there is a growing interest in health and wellness, these messages leave out an emphasis on optimizing the body in order to live one's calling. Justin also talks about the importance of identity transformation, breaking generational patterns of alcoholism, abuse, poverty, and privilege to embrace the potential of a different life. While that might start with the body, it also has to include the spirit as well.  We also talk about the Canadian band The Tragically Hip, and the importance of coming together whether that be to watch a band on its final tour, to embrace exercise, or to live a spiritually-inspired life.  Justin Roethlingshoefer on LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-roethlingshoefer/ Own It Coaching: https://ownitcoaching.com/   “Holy Health” Book: https://holyhealthbook.com/   Justin Roethlingshoefer Books: https://justinroethlingshoefer.com/books/

What should the realistic performance expectations be for Nuge under a notorious, black-and-white, hard-nosed coach like Babcock? Will the demanding system wear down the veteran, or will Babcock's strict emphasis on accountability and detail unlock an entirely new, elite layer of two-way play from the grizzled vet? Not one, not two, but seven family members found themselves on Lord Stanley, after adding no actual piece to the team's Stanley Cup-winning puzzle... In the feature interview, presented by NHL Sense Arena, Kotai shares valuable insights from a unique path to signing with the Islanders this spring -- and making his pro debut in the AHL -- after two exceptional NCAA seasons at Augustana University, where he was a Mike Richter Award finalist this season as the top goalie in college hockey (among many accolades and awards). It wasn't a straight line to an NHL contract for Kotai, who payed junior in Vermont and North Battleford, Saskatchewan before getting a chance to play college hockey, but it is loaded with incredible stories and lessons, including the most unique right-catch origin stories we've ever heard. Kotai also talks about growing up in a family of passionate goalies, with his dad, Alex, coming back to the game as a self-taught adult to become the Vancouver Canucks practice goalie and his personal coach, and younger brother Nick also playing the position, while other younger brother Reilley is a forward at Northern Michigan. This really is a can't miss interview. Speaking of undrafted goalies, in the Parent Playbook, presented by Stop it Goaltending U the App, we talk about not getting caught up in other people's timelines during drafts, something that is important to remember for parents and young goalies, and driven home by the success of goalies like Kotai and Stanley Cup winner Brandon Bussi of the Carolina Hurricanes.
