Derek and Riley start the show discussing what the Philadelphia Flyers did at the NHL Trade Deadline, including trading Scott Laughton to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Andrei Kuzmenko to the Los Angeles Kings, and Erik Johnson back to the Colorado Avalanche. Moving along we discuss the Flyers awful homestand, Cam York being scratched and his comments towards John Tortorella, and the current Eastern Conference standings. Before we get to our interview we talk about Brad Marchand's trade to the Florida Panthers, and Mikko Rantanen flipped to the Dallas Stars. Jumping into our interview, Flyers scout Mark Greig joins us! Greig discusses the excitement heading into this summer's NHL Entry Draft, how the talent in the 2025 draft compares to others, and if there are players that project to be first line centers in the draft. We also talk about how to evaluate players ceilings, the player's character and mental makeup, the NHL Combine, finding late sleepers, and how important this draft is for the Flyers rebuild. Getting into Greig more personally, he tells us when he decided he wanted to be a scout, battles in the war room, Mark's children Dara, Kyra, and Ridley Greig's hockey careers, Mark's pro hockey playing career, Derek's time with Mark with the Phantoms, and we share a ton of legendary stories from the AHL, down the shore, Craig Berube, and more!Nasty Knuckles is an original show created by co-hosts, Riley Cote and Derek "Nasty" Settlemyre. He grew up on a horse ranch in a small town outside of Manitoba, Canada. Rick Berry thought it was perfectly normal that his family had over 200 pure bred Belgian horses and when those horses urinated, it was collected (by Rick and his brother) for the Premarin in the urine and sold to pharmaceutical companies. He later found out that wasn't so normal. What was normal for Rick: having a pond nearby and playing hockey. A lot of hockey. When he was 16, he left Canada and went to Seattle to live with a host family and started junior hockey. In 1997, the Colorado Avalanche, who had just moved from Quebec to Denver, selected Rick in the 3rd round of the NHL Entry Draft. He played with the Hershey Bears for a few years and eventually made it to the Denver where his Avs debut came in the 2000-2001 season. He stuck around for another season in Denver and then was traded to the Penguins in 2002. From there the rollercoaster started between NHL teams, affiliates and a stint in Germany. After his time in Germany, and with two young girls at that point, Rick decided to retire. He and his wife made Denver their home, added a third girl and Rick went into the financial advisory industry. He enjoys his work, being a girl dad and staying involved with the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association. Listen to Rick's story and conversation with Susie Wargin on the Cut Traded Fired Retired Podcast.

Vincent Damphousse played 18 seasons in the NHL after being selected 6th overall in the first round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs - the first French-Canadian ever to be selected by the Leafs in the first round! He was a steady offensive player for the Leafs for 5 years until being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for a single season, then to his hometown Montreal Canadians. With the Habs, his career climbed by leading the Montreal Canadians in scoring when they won their last Stanley Cup in 1993 defeating Wayne Gretzky and LA Kings in 5 games- it was the last time a Canadian NHL has won the Cup! He eventually became the Canadians Captain before finishing his career with the San Jose Sharks. Dampousse played in over 1300 games and scored over 1200 points - certainly Hall of Fame numbers & achievements, but has not received the call yet..!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Sports Experience Podcast with Chris Quinn and Dominic DiTolla
Episode 279 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the ice discussing Teemu Selänne. “The Finnish Flash” was a star in his native Finland before he joined the NHL in 1992-1993. Though selected 10th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, the Right Winger's skill, speed and grace were worth the wait for the Winnipeg Jets. Teemu set all-time records for goals and points in a season as a rookie and helped the Jets to the postseason. Though he remained a star in Winnipeg, a trade to Anaheim paired him with fellow star Paul Kariya helped Selänne reach new heights. Though injuries and stints in San Jose & Colorado almost derailed the prime of his career, “The Finnish Flash” enjoyed a second act in Anaheim which proved to be quite fruitful. In addition to being named one of the NHL's “100 Greatest Players,” Teemu helped the Ducks capture the franchise's first Stanley Cup title after the 2006-2007 season, and he remained a scoring threat until his retirement after the 2013-2014 campaign. In addition to his NHL success, Selänne shined on the international stage for his native Finland. He helped his country win a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and bronze in 1998, 2010 and 2014. Teemu played in 10 NHL All-Star Games, won the 1992-1993 Calder Memorial Trophy (ROY), won the Masterson Trophy 2005-2006 (Dedication & Perseverance), won a Stanley Cup in 2006-2007 and still holds the record for most points recorded in Olympic competition. Overall, the 2017 Hockey Hall of Famer recorded 684 goals, 773 assists and 1,457 points. All of which are records for Finnish-born players. Connect with us on Instagram!
