SlapperCast Episode 381: "Pride of Deer Month" In this episode, Paddy and Chad recap a busy week of Blaggards shows, including T-Bone Tom's in Kemah, HSF Biergarten in Brenham, and the latest “Blagfeather” show at The Big Top. We talk about the joyful weirdness of playing with different drummers while Turbo prepares for knee replacement surgery, including the return of longtime Blaggard drummer Mike McAloon, Keith York's thunderous and emotional return to the Brenham stage, Justice Swantner of Lonefeather, and our upcoming shows with another former Blaggard, James “Jimbo” Edwards. There's also some big-picture talk about the future of live music, finding new places and new ways to play, the return of our Pirate Festival at HSF, upcoming Ireland dates, and a newly-announced Blaggards/Lonefeather show at Rehab Bar on the Bayou on July 18. Also: Chad's birthday, Patrick's childhood European vacations, deer whistles, Thin Lizzy, Steve Earle, the sacred weirdness of Wednesday night gigs, and our heartfelt plea to PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN and actually experience the show while it's happening. Come see a show! We promise not to stare at our phones... if you don't. ;) At the end of the episode, enjoy the FULL performance of Paddy singing Thin Lizzy's "Killer on the Loose" with Lonefeather last Wednesday at the Big Top! This week, we bow down and raise up the almighty guitar heroes! The foundation of Rock n' Punk n' Metal is the guitar and the amazing sounds that those who wield them can make. How do they make such wonderful noise with metal wires on a piece of wood? There's some kinda voodoo in their hands, and we set off on a journey to raise some of the 70s shredders that you may have forgotten! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old 70's Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard! Songs this week include: Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush – “Electric Reflections Of War / The World Anthem / The Answer” from Live (1978) Rory Gallagher – “Shadow Play” from Photo-Finish (1978) Tommy Bolin – “Teaser” from Teaser (1975) Robert Fripp – “Disengage II” from Exposure (1979) Wild Horses – “The Rapist” from Wild Horses (1980) Dixie Dregs – “Punk Sandwich” from Night Of The Living Dregs (1979) Alice Cooper – “Devil's Food / The Black Widow” from The Alice Cooper Show (1977) Al Di Meola – “Race With Devil On Spanish Highway” from Elegant Gypsy (1977) Check us out on the Boneless Podcasting Network: https://bonelesspodcasting.com/ Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/ https://www.facebook.com/InObscuria https://twitter.com/inobscuria https://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/ Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria Store Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/ If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/ If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

There are some conversations that feel less like an interview and more like stepping back into a particular moment in time. This episode of MyMusic is very much one of those.Graham Coath sits down once again with Dave Derby to talk about the return of cult 90s alternative band The Dambuilders, the reworking of classic tracks like “Shrine”, and what it means to revisit music that once shaped an entire phase of your life. What follows is a thoughtful, funny and deeply nostalgic conversation about growing up in bands, discovering music before the internet changed everything, touring through the college radio era, and the strange beauty of reconnecting with people and songs decades later. Dave reflects on Honolulu, Boston, fanzines, cassettes, fax machines, krautrock, improvisation, Thin Lizzy, jazz influences, and the powerful friendships that lie beneath great bands.Along the way, Graham and Dave explore whether modern technology and AI are helping creativity or slowly flattening it, why younger musicians are craving something more human again, and why the spirit of the early 90s still matters in 2026.At its heart, this episode is about connection. The kind built in rehearsal rooms, tiny clubs, long conversations and shared obsession with music. It's about rediscovering what made those moments special in the first place and realising that perhaps the most important things never really disappear. If you remember the energy of alternative music in the 90s, or simply love hearing musicians talk honestly about creativity, friendship and the evolution of music culture, this is one to settle into.
In this episode I'm talking with the great Amani Burnham who is a phenomenal player who has blown up in the past couple of years, his album Roots and Wings is available to stream the first few songs from on Apple Music & Spotify. Guitar world magazine said: Blues-rock newcomer Amani Burnham's love of full-step bends, trills and pentatonic fills leads to inevitable Jimi Hendrix comparisons, but his style isn't outright mimicry – the 20-year-old happens to draw inspiration from the same well of artists as the guitar icon. DUEL is a band from Austin, Texas, that plays psychedelic stoner doom metal. They love the spooky sounds from the early 70s. Their music is super intense and old-fashioned, with heavy beats and loud guitars. It's turned up to the max! Their album "Valley of Shadows" is full of songs about magic, curses, and devils. There are eight awesome tracks that show off their skills, from wild metal anthems to guitar battles like Thin Lizzy, and fast shredding like Motorhead. They recorded these songs during the winter at a studio in the Texas desert, and you can almost feel the late-night jam sessions in every tune. It's probably their best album yet, with solid rock songs from start to finish. Their fifth album, "Breakfast With Death," has nine fast and heavy tracks that capture the energy of their live shows. Each song is like a party, full of energy and excitement!Official Links:Bandcamp: https://heavypsychsoundsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/duel-breakfast-with-deathMetal Archive: https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Duel/3540407752Passionate about metal? Regarding S9E20, the live Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show for 14th of May 2026, could not be recorded due to me being in the hospital, having wisdom teeth out, and not getting home in time to be able to do the show. I stitched together (excuse the pun) three of the latest one-hour TSORR Turbo shows that take place on Bulldogs Radio for an hour every Friday. I hope it will suffice for this week. Usually I would record up front but we've had Cat 8 storms in the Western Cape and no power for 7 out of the last 10 days. There is not enough sun to charge the solar for a 3 hour show and keep the household running. However, there is plenty of good music here just minus the usual Thursday night features like the Diabolical Challenge and Rock and Metal Time Machine. I'll be back to normal for S9E21. Artists featured: Volbeat, Triumph, Van Halen, W.A.S.P, Danzig, Judas Priest, Texas Hippie Coalition, Smith / Kotzen, U2, Cold Chisel, The Gaslight Anthem, The Clash, Tesla, Metallica, Judas Priest, ACDC, The Sweet, Buckcherry, Airbourne, Iron Maiden, Foghat, Cold Chisel, Nazareth, Neil Young, Blue Scream, Parkway Drive, Ozzy Osbourne, Piet Botha & Jack Hammer, Joe Bonamassa, Led Zeppelin, James Reyne, Thin Lizzy, Dave Hause, Motörhead, The Lazys, Van Halen, Oasis, Judas Priest, Megadeth, The Professionals, The UninvitedThe Story of Rock and Roll. Guess That Record returns with Jackson interviewing Midge Ure! Hailing from Scotland and having been active in music since the early 70s, Midge is best known for serving as the frontman for the band Ultravox. The group had a string of hit singles on the UK charts in the 80s including "Vienna," and "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes." Midge is best known for his collaboration with Bob Geldof, co-writing "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and helping to organize Live Aid. In the interview Jackson and Midge talk about his brief stint in Thin Lizzy, performing at Live Aid with Ultravox, and his new album "A Man Of Two Worlds." S9E19 went out live from the TSORR Studio on Myoli Beach on 30 Apr 2026 at 18h00 on Bulldogs Radio. The show marks the anniversary of the passing of my Border Collie Jaxxy, who was my ever-present companion for 13 years. Without getting carried away, the show respectfully paid tribute to this most special boy. We had new releases from Foo Fighters, The Pretty Reckless, Sepultura, and At the Gates, and the Diabolical Challenge was particularly diabolical, featuring Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Boston, and Van Halen. Four albums under USA. Check out the website: www.thestoryofrockandroll.com. All the videos, interviews, and bonus materials for the show are on the site. On this week's episode, we're joined by Scott Gorham, legendary guitarist and a defining force behind Thin Lizzy. From leaving California for London in the mid '70s to landing one of the most life changing auditions in rock history, Scott's journey into Thin Lizzy is as surreal as it is iconic. He takes us back to the day he met Phil Lynott, the instant chemistry within the band, and how he found his place in a sound rooted in Irish identity, melody, and power. We get into the golden years, the writing and recording of classics like “The Boys Are Back in Town” and “Bad Reputation,” the pressure surrounding Jailbreak, and the making of the legendary Live and Dangerous. Scott shares stories from the road, the studio nerves, and the moments that could have gone either way but somehow turned into rock history. There's also a real sense of Dublin running through it all, a city Scott still holds close and a heartfelt reflection on Phil Lynott: his generosity, his creativity, and the struggles that came with it. Beyond Thin Lizzy, we talk about Scott's decision not to carry the band's name forward without Lynott, leading instead to new chapters with Black Star Riders, as well as his personal battles with health, recovery, and finding creative outlets beyond music through art and drawing. It's a conversation full of stories, honesty, and perspective, about legacy, resilience, and what it really means to be part of something timeless.Let Christy Take It are proud to bring you Scott Gorham. If you enjoy our show please Like and subscribe wherever you listen to your podcasts.Photo Credit: Denis O'Regan - https://denis.uk/artworks/categories/10-thin-lizzy/Thanks to our sponsor Irish Woodcraft, please check them out at https://irishwoodcraft.ie
A transitional champion in wrestling is one that only holds the title for a short amount of time before they drop it to someone else. Typically it's a way to get the belt from one wrestler to another without them wrestling each other, or in cases where the title win is the most important part of the story as opposed to the actual reign itself. On this episode, Andrew and first-time guest Anthony Puhl (a.k.a. foolinc from the VOW Discord) look at bands who have had transitional bandmates, so to speak, where certain members are only in the group for a short amount of time. Artists played include The Clash, Thin Lizzy, Blink-182, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Depeche Mode, The Moody Blues, and many more. These band members are here for a good time, not a long time, so listen and enjoy!Theme song: "Hemispheres" by Silent PartnerBluesky: @MusicoftheMat / @justandrewAll VOW podcasts, articles, previews, and reviews: VoicesofWrestling.comJoin the VOW Discord to discuss Music of the Mat and other shows/topics: VoicesofWrestling.com/DiscordDonate to Music of the Mat and other VOW podcasts: VoicesofWrestling.com/DonateAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of another guitar hero giant whose riffs were mighty enough to support Lemmy: Phil Campbell. He was a guitarist who rarely got mentioned in the circles of recognized guitar greats, but his playing on 16 Motörhead albums provides all the badass-guitarist validation needed. Best known as Lemmy's right-hand guy, he also released 3 fantastic albums with his 3 sons as Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons. We pay tribute to this amazing Welsh guitarist and celebrate his entire discography! Rest in power, Phil! New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace, Phil. This marks the 300th weekly episode of the Night Demon Heavy Metal Podcast, without missing a single week. To celebrate this milestone, Jarvis and Nesbit sat down in Ireland for a chat about where the podcast came from, where it is now, and where it is going in the future. They reflect on their initial mindset when the podcast began, the process of trial and error to perfect format and workflows, and podcasts that influenced this one. They talk about meeting listeners and subscribers "in the wild." They ponder the question of whether there is an end in sight for the podcast. They reflect on 15 years of Night Demon history. And they offer a bold pact for the future.LINKSTalking Maiden Podcast - https://www.talkingmaiden.com/Winds of Change Podcast - https://crooked.com/podcast-series/wind-of-change/ Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! From his early days with proto-punk pop band Slik, through his tenure with ex-Sex Pistol Glen Matlock's Rich Kids, the creation of Visage, and touring with Thin Lizzy, to his major league success with Ultravox, and then his pivotal musical role in Band Aid and Live Aid, Midge Ure was a constant and significant force in the evolving music scene of the late seventies and eighties. 2026 sees his first release of new material in twelve years, a double album entitled A Man Of Two Worlds. In this episode of The Art Of Longevity, Midge talks to Fenner Pearson about his long career in music, his bold decision to release an album of instrumental music as part of his new double-album, and his plans for taking it on tour with a full band. Along the way, they discuss changes to the music industry and technology over the last fifty years, and how his Mum made egg and chips for Phil Lynott the first time he and Midge met. There is little doubt about it, Midge is a British music legend and modest to a fault. A typically understated and delightful chat. The Art of Longevity Season 13 is powered by Bang & Olufsen. The book of the podcast, Riding the Rollercoaster, is now available. This episode, we look at guest appearances. From Duane Allman playing the famous lead on “Layla”, to Bob Seger doing backing vocals on The Eagles' “Heartache Tonight”. It's all here, from a moment in the studio to creation of an inspirational piece of music It's a chock-a-block episode. “Knockin' on Heaven's Door” looks at Neil Sedaka, Charles Negron II of Three Dog Night, William "Billy Bass" Nelson Jr, of Parliament-Funkadelic, and rappers Lil Poppa 25 and Luci4 22, who were, surprisingly, shot to death. “Rock News” considers nominees for the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and we introduce our latest “Rod Stewart Moment”. If that's not enough, “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”, looks at Eno's 1978 album “Ambient 1: Music for Airports” and how it fits with his early body of work. So much to take in! Enjoy! Time to celebrate! 2026 is the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America. We go back to the Bicentennial, 1976, and look at the songs from the charts back then. Oakland, California's Lethal Limits is the solo project of Jeff Corso, a Bay Area punk lifer raised on coastal fog, cracked sidewalks, and the kind of East Bay shows that smelled like dust, sweat, and wet concrete. Based in Oakland and hailing from Half Moon Bay, Corso has spent decades inside the region's punk and hardcore underground. Elevate, his new EP out March 13, 2026, lands like a familiar jolt. Four songs. No filler. Loud, melodic, and wired with the same nervous energy that once spilled out of basements, skate ramps, and all-ages rooms up and down the 510. Lethal Limits lives where punk crunch meets power pop clarity. The songs hit fast but linger, built on hooks that feel learned the hard way. There's a strong 90s backbone running through Elevate, the kind that recalls flyer-stapled lampposts, Gilman Street matinees, and the melodic punch of bands like Hüsker Dü and The Pixies without drifting into revival territory. Corso writes like someone who came up when melody mattered just as much as volume, and when songs had to survive blown PAs and half-attentive rooms. Arriving nearly four years after Lethal Limits' self-titled debut, a roughshod, self-produced full-length that quietly turned heads, Elevate shows a project sharpening its instincts. The edges are still intact, but new shades creep in. There's flashes of Thin Lizzy-style guitar swagger, heavier 90s grunge weight, and a thicker low end, all while keeping the choruses front and center. It sounds like the natural evolution of someone who grew up on punk, skate videos, and college radio, then kept writing long after the scene changed. Recorded between February and April 2025 by Corso at Vam Vam Studios in Oakland, Elevate was mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden, giving the songs clarity without sanding off their grit. Corso handles nearly everything himself, guitars, bass, vocals, keys, tambourine, while drums from Aesop Dekker (Hickey, Ludicra, Agalloch) add weight and precision beneath the hooks. The result feels immediate and human, like a band playing live in a room, not chasing perfection but locking into feel. This week, we are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. We once again discuss how a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. Dive in with us as we discuss and listen to some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members, along with Offshoots, which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new. Songs this week include: Alcatrazz – “Painted Lover” from Disturbing The Peace (1985) Subrosa – “World's Greatest Lover” from Never Bet The Devil Your Head (1997) Black Swan – “The Fire And The Flame” from Paralyzed (2026) THE LAST ROCKSTARS – “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” from THE LAST ROCKSTARS (2022) Circus Diablo - “Mad Parade” from Circus Diablo (2007) DREAMCAR – “We Rats” from Dream EP (2024) Swedish Metal Aid – “Give A Helpin' Hand” from Give A Helpin' Hand - single (1985) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! This week, Steve picked songs connected in some way with the genre of film known as "westerns". Either they directly reference the west such as being a cowboy, or they use samples from famous western films...or they use familiar cinematic western film score tropes that were introduced by such composers as Ennio Morricone. In this show you will hear Thin Lizzy, Hoodoo Gurus, Eighth Route Army, The Shadows, Big Audio Dynamite, Richard Barone, The Boys [UK], The Godfathers, Calexico, Ennio Morricone, Federale, Kool Moe Dee, Hank Marvin, Spindrift, Los Straitjackets, The Spacemen, Gene Pitney. The songs everyone knows from Only By The Night aren't the whole story. We set aside the monster singles and go searching for the cuts that turned a big rock record into a lasting companion—tracks with space to breathe, edges that scrape, and melodies that stick for reasons other than radio. From the haunted hush of Closer to the grit and drive of Crawl, we unpack why these performances work and how the band's family chemistry locks the groove into place. We trace the band's journey—early buzz overseas, the 2008 breakout, and the Grammys that followed—then zoom in on the parts often missed: Angelo Petraglia's production choices, the interplay of staccato rhythm and stretched vocals, and the fingerprints of influences like Pixies, Thin Lizzy, and the Beach Boys. Manhattan and Revelry get their due as mood pieces that ride the line between indie cool and heart-on-sleeve confessional, while Cold Desert closes the loop with country-tinged glow and a late-night confession that lingers long after the last chord. Our dark horse favorite, Be Somebody, becomes the centerpiece: a soaring chorus, a bassline that sings, and an arrangement that opens wider with each pass. It's the sound of a band stepping onto a bigger stage without losing its scruff or soul. If you've only met this album through Sex On Fire and Use Somebody, consider this your invitation to hear the rest with fresh ears. Hit play, tell us your top three non-hits, and if this breakdown made you re-listen, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a quick review to help others find the show.Send us a textSupport the show
By the time Jimmy White was 13, he was skipping school and travelling around England in a black cab to play snooker and hustle adults out of their money. Turning professional, Jimmy quickly became the most beloved snooker player in the world while living a lifestyle that involved month-long benders with Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy, UB40, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards.
