The Howard Alumni Movemakers Podcast hosted by Joshua Mercer
On May 6, 2019, Howard University Director of Athletics Kery Davis announced the hiring of Kenneth Blakeney as its men's basketball head coach. In his first season at the helm, Blakeney coached Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) All-Time Leading Scorer Charles Williams where he earned All-MEAC honors. He also witnessed Wayne Bristol, Jr. winning 2019-20 MEAC Rookie of the Year. Blakeney brings a wealth of experience and a winning pedigree to the program. He has coached at seven Division I universities over a 12-year span. He has been associated with winning as a player, coach and business entrepreneur. Raised in Washington, D.C., Blakeney was a McDonalds All- American and Gatorade Player of the Year at the famed DeMatha Catholic High School, playing for Hall of Fame Coach Morgan Wooten, the winningest high school coach in history. Following his stellar scholastic career, Blakeney headed to Durham, N.C., to play for the Duke Blue Devils under the direction of Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski. During his Duke career, the Blue Devils compiled a record of 99-34 which included winning two national championships. After receiving his bachelor's degree in history from Duke, Blakeney secured his first coaching position as the assistant men's basketball coach at James Madison under Hall of Fame Coach Lefty Driesell. Blakeney later moved on to the men's basketball staff at LaSalle University where he recruited and developed Rasual Butler, a 2002 NBA draft pick for the Miami Heat. Blakeney then moved on to the University of Delaware where he served as the Head Assistant under now current Notre Dame coach Mike Brey. During his time in Delaware, Blakeney conducted coaching clinics and lectured in Senegal and Turkey as part of NBA educational efforts. He also assisted in the recruitment of three nationally ranked recruiting classes from 2003-06 at Delaware. Blakeney lectured in the physical education department, coordinated community relations events and initiated a marketing campaign called the “6MAN”. After one-year stints at St. Bonaventure and Marshall, Blakeney went on to have a successful career at Harvard University. Working under Head Coach and former Duke standout Tommy Amaker, he assisted in capturing the program's first Ivy League Title and NCAA Tournament berth since 1946. Blakeney also helped recruit two back to back Top 50 recruiting classes in 2008 and 2009, with the 2008 class being named to the ESPN Top 25. He also discovered and developed 10-year NBA veteran Jeremy Lin. After his four years at Harvard, Blakeney co-founded a fashion accessory company named Sportin' Styles. Additionally, he joined apparel giant Under Armour where he worked with NBA, College and Grass Roots division. In 2018, he returned to the sidelines and the Ivy League at Columbia University (SOURCE: https://hubison.com/). This is where we bring you the latest news, reviews, rants, rumors and opinions on the players, coaches and front office of the Chicago Bulls. We’ve got several topics for this episode. Including: Coby White’s Record-Setting Crazy Night Bulls Player Injuries begin to mount, what will be the effect? Are we contenders yet? The Bulls are still a horrible team. Game predictions for the coming week In celebration of Bulls Podcast Episode #45, we celebrate the number #45 throughout Bulls History: Scott Lloyd 1979, Ed Nealy 1989-1993 * Michael Jordan 1995 Paul Shirley 2004, Luke Schenscher 2006, Rasual Butler 2011, * Denzel Valentine 2017-2020 (In the League on Layaway) Before I forget I also want to say hello to the newest listener to the Bulls Podcast, Kristin Ledlow who does reporting for TNT and is an outstanding student of the game. She just started up a new podcast with Candace Parker called Ledlow & Parker that you should definitely check out to get a really fun take on a lot of the inside NBA talk. They are both great and it’s a really fun show to listen to. COBY! COBY! COBY! What an incredible night we all got to witness on Tuesday 11/12 when Coby White set and NBA Rookie and Chicago Bulls record by hitting 7 3’s in the 4th quarter to seal the win, and seal Coby’s legend in Chicago history. It was one of the most exciting individual performances we’ve seen in the last few years as Bulls fans. Something truly worth getting excited about. With Coby’s College Coach, Roy Williams in attendance, Coby once again re-ignited his Sub-Zero attitude, shooting a cold-hearted 7 for 11 from three and ending the night with 27 points. One of the highlights was seeing Ryan Arcidiacono turn around to raise his hands in the air before the ball even made it halfway to the hoop. He knew it was going in the whole time. When asked about it, Arch said, “ Jim Boylen on Coby White's historic 4th Quarter: “We honored what he was doing – we kept feeding him, we kept getting him, kept finding him. And I thought that group did a hell of a job. Obviously, he was terrific, and we helped him be that way, which is what I think good teams do.” After the game, Wendell Carter Jr was once again vocal about being a leader within the team. It appears as if WCJ is emerging as the true alpha of this team now.. Wendell Carter Jr. said, “We see exactly what we're capable of doing. So now, that's my expectation — nothing lower than that. Whenever that doesn't happen, I've found my voice on this team where I can talk to each individual player in a manner where they will understand.” WCJ also says he would like to find something to juice the #Bulls up every game if he can. That was part of his motivation in vowing that Bobby Portis wouldn’t go off on the Bulls again. Injuries are taking their toll early in the season The injuries seem to be mounting up. Zach turned an ankle and is probable for the Bucks game on Thursday. Otto Porter Jr is still out of action with his foot injury and listed as day-to-day, though is already ruled out of action in the Milwaukee game. Cristiano Felicio is suffering the worst injury of all with a broken right wrist. The post Bulls Podcast #45 appeared first on Chicago Bullseye.

Locked On Warriors – Daily Podcast On The Golden State Warriors
The Warriors began the weekend with a solid win in Sacramento, though they committed 25 turnovers in the 15-point victory. Stephen Curry led the team in +/- and Kevin Durant had a team high 33 points. The Dubs followed it up by posting a defensive rating of 118 in a loss to the Nuggets in Denver. In both games, GSW allowed at least 5 players from the opposition to reach double figures. There are bright spots however. Damian Jones got his first extended runs of 2018 in the two games, igniting the Warriors with a monster block against the Nuggets on Saturday. Kevon Looney played some solid minutes as well. David West was away from the team attending the funeral of Rasual Butler, his close friend. The Warriors have two meetings against the Thunder coming up—OKC is another team that has beaten the Warriors this year.So the defensive intensity will have to pick up at some point. The Warriors have fallen to 10th in the league in defensive rating behind an early-2018 stretch that has seen them routinely allow more than 110 points/game to their opponents. The final minutes of the Denver game show the ways in which the Dubs have faltered defensively; ball-watching, helping off shooters, and late rotations abound. Learn more about your ad choices.
