Makayla has displayed uncanny range since her high school days, competing in events from the 200m all the way up to the 1,000m. Makayla, who signed an NIL deal with On in the fall of 2024, has additional collegiate PRs of 52.70 in the 400m, 2:47.35 in the 1,000m and 4:38.51 in the mile. In today's conversation, Makalya walks me through winning her first NCAA title, what it means to her, her ambitions for the future and the UNC program, why keeping the sport light and fun is so important and how she does that, and so much more! This conversation was thoroughly enjoyable, and I hope you appreciate it as much as I did having it. New high school mile record-holder and future Washington Husky, Owen Powell, joins the show just days after crushing his second sub-4-minute mile in February, etching his name in history books.First, Owen ran a sizzling 3:57.74 on February 14 against collegiate runners at the Husky Classic in Washington. Owen also won the Washington 3A State Championship in the 1,600m in 2023, and state championships in cross country and the 800m in 2024. With the Olympics having just ended, I'm presenting a chat I had with someone who might be a good bet to run in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Parker Wolfe had a terrific high school career at Cherry Creek H.S. in suburban Denver, where in his senior year he was the Gatorade Player of the Year after having an undefeated cross country season, and ran 4:06.17 in the 1600 to set the Colorado state record, which hadn't been broken in 41 years. He also set the still-standing state record in the 3200, 8:55.94. From there, he has had a stellar career at the Univ. of North Carolina. He won the ACC cross country title this year, but things really began to accelerate after he was runner-up this winter at the NCAA indoor championships in both the 3000 and 5000 meters. The highlights of his spring track season included winning ACC titles in the 5K and 10K, and then winning the NCAA 5000-meter crown. Three weeks later, at only 20 years old, Parker ran in the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. In an incredibly gutsy race, Parker crossed the line in 13:10.75 in third-place. Despite the top-three finish, Parker had not run the Olympic qualifying standard, and after computation of complex world rankings formulas, Parker was unfortunately the first guy out. It was a bit of a tough pill to swallow, but as you'll hear, Parker has mentally moved on and is focused on his upcoming season at North Carolina. He's a great example of resilience, overcoming setbacks, and continuing to follow the process. This conversation will also be enlightening if you are a high school or college runner as you hear about how he progressed through the stages of his recruitment, training, and competing.Parker WolfeInstagram and Threads @parkerw19Bill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

Lexi Kilfoyl's love of softball didn't come naturally. She had to be persuaded not to quit after her first year playing. Without that push from her parents, Kilfoyl never would have become a high school varsity pitcher as a seventh grader. Or a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year. She played her first three seasons of college softball for Alabama, and in her junior year, she played through a hip injury that left her questioning a future in Tuscaloosa. Kilfoyl entered the transfer portal, Kilfoyl found her new home at Oklahoma State and rediscovered her love of the game. Bryce Thompson believes basketball is his purpose. In high school, he was a McDonald's All-American, Gatorade Player of the Year and unanimous choice for Oklahoma High School Player of the Year. However, being a highly touted recruit comes with high expectations. The junior guard channels out the noise and puts in the work. As a sixth grader, he'd wake up at 5am to train with his dad. Thompson has maintained the same work ethic over the years. He'll even make the trip home to Tulsa whenever he can—to get more training in with his dad. Down the line, Thompson sees a possible career in forensics. For now, he's focused on doing big things in basketball.

Jonquel Jones has won almost every on-court WNBA accolade there is. Since being drafted sixth overall in 2016, Jones has been named the WNBA's Most Improved Player, Sixth Woman of the Year, and MVP. Before that, she was Maryland's Gatorade Player of the Year in high school, and a WBCA All-American. But despite being one of the most decorated players in basketball, many people outside of diehard WNBA fans may not have heard of Jones. Being Black and gay and describing herself as more masculine, Jones sits at an intersection that has traditionally struggled to attract brands and media, even though the WNBA is the most inclusive American professional sports league. ESPN's Katie Barnes talks to us about Jones' identity, and they tell us if this will finally be the season that Jones wins a title…and if she'll finally get to be herself.
