Playliste: Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks theme (fra Twin Peaks) DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme (fra The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) John David - Theme from Beverly Hills 90210 (fra Beverly Hills 90210) Peter Frödin og Hella Joof - Bullerfnis-sangen (fra Bullerfnis) Mark Knopfler - Irish boy (fra Forsvundne Danskere) P.M. Dawn - Set adrift on memory bliss (fra Damernes Magasin) Michael Elo - Luftens helte (fra Disney Sjov) Sebastian - Gøngehøvdingen (fra Gøngehøvdingen) The Heights - How do you talk to an angel (fra The Heights) Mark Snow - The X-Files theme (fra X-Files) Kelsey Grammar - Tossed salad and scrambled eggs (fra Frasier) TLC - All that (fra All That) BoDeans - Closer to free (fra Party Of Five) The Rembrandts - I'll be there for you (fra Friends) Joachim Holbek - Main theme (fra Riget I) R.E.M. - Bang and blame (Fra Charlot & Charlotte) James Price - Madsen og Co. tema (fra Madsen og Co.) Vonda Shepard - Searchin' my soul (fra Ally McBeal) Teletubbies - Teletubbies say eh-oh! (fra Teletubbies) Jacob Groth - Temaet fra Taxa (fra Taxa) Paula Cole - I don't want to wait (fra Dawson's Creek) Bobo Moreno & Michael Rupe - Hvide løgne tema (fra Hvide Løgne) Alabama 3 - Woke up this morning (fra The Sopranos)

Live from Pawnee: A Parks and Recreation Fan Rewatch Podcast

Once again, Mark and Allen were extremely lucky to spend time with another fantastic guest during a Pawnee Spotlight interview, this time around the middle of May 2024. It was fascinating to talk to Jim about not only his take on the always entertaining M.C. Martin Housely, but also voice overs and impressions, his childhood growing up as the son of Marion Ross, and many other interesting topics.  Jim was a tremendously kind and gracious guest on our show, and we are proud to have one of the only occurences in the world of an honest-to-God "Swanson-Off"! If you're confused at this (and you should be), tune in to see what we're talking about! We've said it before, and will say it once more here, this was yet another in a stream of incredible guests we've had the privilege to have on our show ... A fantastic Pawnee Spotlight featuring a tremendous multi-talented guest! We hope you all enjoy this as much as we did.Visit Jim at https://jimmeskimen.com/ and on Instagram @jimpressions

This week, we're joined by media scholar and psychologist Soraya Giaccardi. She shares her work analyzing gender depictions in TV and helps Remoy and Samantha psychoanalyze their relationship to a TV classic and one of their faves, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”But first, Remoy walks us through some surprising facts about  boys' TV shows. Who are the leading characters in boys' TV shows? Remoy shares some stats from Soraya's seminal report (check it out; it's linked below) about how genders are represented in leading roles. Turns out that there is surprising parity among the binary genders in leading character representation.Girls being in leading roles is not as big a deterrent in boys' TV shows as we might collectively think… More on that later.Women and girls are way more represented than they used to be, but how much are current gender depictions on boys' TV shows challenging MASKulinity? The hosts discuss, with some valuable insights from our media scholar guest. LGBTQIA+ characters are still seldom the leading roles in boys' TV. Soraya hypothesizes why that might be… One factor that remains consistent is that boys remain perpetrators of violence on screen… and the victims of it. There's still so much work to do when it comes to men's and boys' representations on screen. While boys are disproportionately harmed on screen, we don't always see them processing that violence emotionally…Remoy draws key points from Soraya's report on how these depictions, or lack thereof, impact us boys in their real life. How exactly are boys' relationships with their close ones depicted on the small screen compared to their fellow femme characters? This all informs how they interpret gender.Soraya stresses the importance of deconstructing these stereotypes as boys intake them during formative years.Despite making so much headway in balancing the binary genders, boys continue to primarily show just one emotion on screen… You guessed it: anger. We watch TV a lot more than we used to as a society. From David Bowie in "Zoolander" to Keith Richards in "Pirates of the Caribbean," we'll rank and rave about the most memorable, unexpected, and downright hilarious musician cameos on the big screen. Plus, as Dads, we'll have a few personal stories up our sleeves about explaining to our kids who that “old guy” is playing Jack Sparrow's dad.Movie of the Week: American Utopia: Directed by Spike Lee and featuring the eclectic David Byrne (yes, him again), "American Utopia" is a live Broadway adaptation of Byrne's album and tour of the same name. We'll dive into the visuals, the music, the raw energy, and the impactful themes interwoven throughout this stage-to-screen experience. From sociopolitical messages to heart-pounding choreography, we'll dissect how "American Utopia" creates, well, its own version of Utopia for its audience.Kids TV: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air: Now, this is a story all about how... we get nostalgic about one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 90s. We Dads will not only reminisce about our favorite Fresh Prince moments but also discuss the cultural impact the show had and the lessons it brought to the living rooms around the world. And as we recount the comedic genius of Will Smith and the charm of the Banks family, we'll also touch upon the show's deeper themes of identity, class, and familial bonds.Whether you're in for the musical musings, stage spectacles, or just eager to do the Carlton dance, we've got you covered. Tune into Bad Dads Film Review, where every episode is a mixtape of cinematic insights and Dad-level humor. Time to drop the beat!We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, and Freaks and Geeks were the shows we focused on as the others I haven't seen. Although after speaking with her I'm def adding Friday Night Lights to my growing list of classic shows to watch. BritBox will launch the world premiere of gripping crime drama The Tower 2: Death Message from May 16. The four-episode thriller is returning for a second season, airing weekly on BritBox, following its 2021 hit first instalment, The Tower, also available on the service. The critically-acclaimed crime drama is written and executive produced by Patrick Harbinson (HOMELAND, 24), from the best-selling book by Kate London. It stars Gemma Whelan (GAME OF THRONES, GENTLEMAN JACK), Jimmy Akingbola (BEL-AIR, TED LASSO), Tahirah Sharif (THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, A CHRISTMAS PRINCE), BAFTA Television Award-nominated for her performance in season one. Following the dramatic climax of season one, rookie Police Constable Lizzie Adama (Sharif) has returned to Farlow police station where she finds herself fighting to protect a mother and daughter in peril. Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Sarah Collins (Whelan) has transferred to Homicide Command. When she is tasked with re-opening a cold case of a missing schoolgirl, her investigations take an unexpected turn, leading her to cross paths with Lizzie once again. Following Lizzie and Sarah's antagonistic relationship, they are forced to work together for the first time. Detective Inspector Kieran Shaw (Scanlan) wants to recruit Detective Sergeant Steve Bradshaw (Akingbola) for a specialist task force, targeting a major organized crime figure, but he must convince Steve he can be trusted. This latest season promises another complex, authentic and topical crime story that will keep audiences gripped.Jimmy Akingbola can currently be seen to reprise his coveted role of ‘Geoffrey', trusted advisor to Phil and the Banks family and the link back to his humble roots in the UK in season 2 of BEL-AIR, the acclaimed serialized one-hour dramatic analogue of the '90s sitcom THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR. Just recently, ITV released his 'powerful' and ‘beautifully told' documentary HANDLE WITH CARE. In this deeply personal, Jimmy traces his own journey and, in doing so, uncovers the truth about growing up in the care system in England. Deadline cited the documentary as a ‘heart-wrenching, emotional and educational journey' while The Guardian called it ‘profoundly moving'.

Today on the show we have returning champion RB Botto. For many, the holy grail of television has become Netflix. It's a titan in the industry, and with over 200 million subscribers worldwide, no one can put out content quite like them. Just look at the recent hit show BRIDGERTON, which has already been seen by a massive 80 million households (!!) since its release. If you're a writer or creator, getting your series onto Netflix's platform can spell success in a big way. But first there's the matter of getting your series in front of them and pitching it effectively. It should be a comfort to know that you're not the only one who wants your series on Netflix. Netflix wants that too! Netflix execs are constantly on the lookout for exciting new voices and new series to fill their slate. Yet it takes more than just a good series or a good pilot script to get on Netflix's radar; you need to be able to communicate it well and pitch it in a way that will get their team excited. This certainly takes some work, but it's absolutely achievable. If you're interested in getting your show on Netflix, it's time to learn directly from the source what it will take to make that happen. In an effort to reach more writers and find more content, Netflix has joined forces with Stage 32 to present a FREE and invaluable workshop on what it is that they're looking for in new shows and how you can best pitch your series to their executives. In Stage 32's continued effort to help level the playing field for content creators worldwide, we felt it's important that we help you get tools you need to be able to make sure that you can pitch effectively.Kicking off the workshop will be Stage 32 CEO, Richard "RB" Botto (@rbwalksintoabar), and hosting this presentation will be Stage 32's Managing Director Amanda Toney with Netflix's Director of Creative Talent Investment and Development for International Originals Christopher Mack. Christopher was previously Senior Vice President of Scripted Content for Stage 13, overseeing all of the brand's original scripted series and development slates across multiple genres, including Emmy nominated Netflix series' SPECIAL and IT'S BRUNO. Before Stage 13, Chris headed the Warner Bros. Workshop, the writing and directing program for professionals looking to start and/or further their careers in television. Over a period of 10 years in this role, Chris curated a roster of close to 100 writers and 50 directors representing the breakthrough emerging voices working on high-profile television shows today. In addition to these responsibilities, Chris has covered hit shows such as TWO AND A HALF MEN and SMALLVILLE for the Current Programs department.Prior to joining Warner Bros., Chris spent seven years writing on various one-hour dramas including ER, THE PRACTICE and THE NEW TWILIGHT ZONE. After graduating from Loyola Law School, Chris got his start in television at NBC Studios as an associate and he quickly rose to becoming an executive. During his time at the newly created NBC Studios, he oversaw a varied list of shows including: THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR and IN THE HOUSE, among others. In this exclusive Stage 32 workshop, Christopher will delve into what exactly makes a television pitch work at Netflix. He'll discuss the essentials you'll need to catch Netflix's eye and will zero in on how to write an effective pitch document. He'll pose questions you be able to answer and communicate for your series and give you ideas on how best to communicate your show's overview, world, tone, and characters. Christopher will then discuss how season summaries should be built and give you ideas on how to think about and present potential episodes. Finally, you will have the invaluable opportunity to ask Christopher your own questions. You will leave this presentation with the understanding of how to structure and present your series, not in theory, but directly from the source.Enjoy my epic conversation with RB Botto.

Olly details how he decided he wanted to carry out the Will Smith-backed legacy and describes what that looked like for him as an actor, and someone creating something new. Stepping away from the original Carlton characteristics wasn't particularly too hard because Olly went into filming knowing he had to reinvent the iconic role. Sholotan goes on to share the importance of highlighting the Black luxury lifestyle, the advice Will Smith shared with the show's cast, which moments from the original series he would like to revisit with “Carlton,” and much more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nicco, as he is affectionately known, was raised in Detroit, Michigan. Best described as talented and entertaining, Nicco is an impassioned spirit, who had a love for acting and dance from his earliest years. Ultimately that passion led him from Detroit to New York, where he trained under the iconic Director, Israel Hicks, at SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Acting, and earned his BFA. Shortly after that, Nicco accepted an opportunity to be a Choreographer in Residence at the Yale School of Drama. Nicco's razor-sharp wit and emotional accessibility have driven a varied career in both Legit and Musical Theatre, as well as in Film and Television. His brand defies all of the traditional limitations. As a gay man he grew up in between the worlds of the “grand fantastical” gay scene and the rigid realities of being a big black man in America and the stigma that both can carry.More on Felicia HendersonWriter-Director-Producer Felicia D. In March of 2019, Morgan Cooper dropped a video on YouTube that quickly went viral. It was a short film that he made as a passion project, after he was struck with a flash of inspiration: What if the 90's classic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were updated for the 21st century? Within 24 hours of posting his project online, Cooper got a call from Westbrook, the production company owned by Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith. Will Smith had seen the video, liked what he saw, and wanted to know what Cooper's plans were. In short order, Smith flew Cooper to Miami, where he was filming Bad Boys III. The two met, and Will Smith signed on to Cooper's vision, reimagining The Fresh Prince with a much more dramatic tone. They shopped the idea around and found a home at Peacock, NBC's steaming service. Morgan Cooper was kept on as a writer, executive producer and director for the new series. This week on Into America, host Trymaine Lee speaks with Morgan Cooper about Bel-Air, the creative decisions he's making with the show, and his lightning quick rise in Hollywood. Trymaine also speaks with actress Cassandra Freeman, who plays Aunt Viv in the new show, as well as hip hop icon DJ Jazzy Jeff, who played Jazz on the original Fresh Prince, and who now hosts Bel-Air: The Official Podcast. For a transcript, please visit https://www.msnbc.com/intoamerica. Thoughts?
