Rockshow Episode 212 The Pogues special guest Nate PalanNathan “Nate” Palan is a versatile musician, composer, and music enthusiast based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from southern Wisconsin, he has cultivated a diverse career in the music industry over the past two decades. The Pogues were a Celtic punk band formed in London in 1982, blending traditional Irish folk music with the raw energy of punk rock. The band was founded by Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy, and Jem Finer, and their name is derived from the Irish phrase “póg mo thóin” (meaning “kiss my arse”).Musical Style and ImpactThe Pogues became known for their mix of traditional Irish instruments (like the tin whistle, accordion, and banjo) with punk's rebellious energy. Their lyrics often told gritty, poetic tales of life, love, drinking, and Irish identity.Key Albums & SongsRed Roses for Me (1984) – Their debut album, featuring early classics like “Streams of Whiskey.”Rum Sodomy & the Lash (1985) – Produced by Elvis Costello, this album included “A Pair of Brown Eyes” and “The Old Main Drag.”If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988) – Their most successful album, featuring “Fairytale of New York” (a Christmas classic featuring Kirsty MacColl) and “Thousands Are Sailing.”Peace and Love (1989) and Hell's Ditch (1990) – Continued their unique sound, with hits like “Misty Morning, Albert Bridge.”Band Turmoil & Lineup ChangesShane MacGowan, the band's charismatic but troubled frontman, was fired in 1991 due to alcohol and drug issues. The band continued with different singers, including Joe Strummer (The Clash), but they disbanded in 1996. They reunited in 2001 and played sporadically until 2014.LegacyThe Pogues influenced countless folk-punk bands, from Dropkick Murphys to Flogging Molly. Their music remains a staple of Irish culture, and “Fairytale of New York” is still one of the most beloved holiday songs.Shane MacGowan's PassingShane MacGowan passed away in November 2023, marking the end of an era. Despite their ups and downs, The Pogues' music continues to inspire and resonate with fans worldwide.#ThePogues #CelticPunk#IrishFolk #FolkPunk#PunkRock #ShaneMacGowan#FairytaleOfNewYork#RumSodomyAndTheLash#CelticMusichttps://www.facebook.com/share/12GhRB4QuoZ/?mibextid=wwXIfrhttps://www.instagram.com/dark_streets_official?igsh=dXhwNXFkdzIyYnA5https://www.darkstreetsnyc.comhttps://youtu.be/j9jbdgZidu8?si=E2KUw98_dxZ-WA8whttp://www.pogues.com/https://www.instagram.com/thepoguesofficial?igsh=MTR6Z2s2eXRwa2hsNw==https://www.facebook.com/share/1ACvbA4GCX/?mibextid=wwXIfrhttps://x.com/poguesofficial?s=21&t=Mzw5de5zsR-SDDbhyzH0Lg

Ryan and Rory, two friends who met at Bournemouth University, joined forces to create the duo "RSquared." Taking inspiration from Music On and Paradise, as well as their love of disco, funk, and tech, they nurtured their sound to create a unique, catchy, and energetic vibe. Since releasing their first EP in early 2020, they have gone on to sign with record labels such as Knee Deep in Sound, 303 Lovers, Too Many Rules, and Libero Records, among others. RSquared's sharp percussion and rolling drums have garnered support from DJs such as Hot Since 82, Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Dennis Cruz, and Paco Osuna. They have also received a significant amount of support on radio stations such as BBC and Kiss FM. With 2023 on the horizon, the young duo is poised to cement their place as rising talents in the tech house scene. For more than five decades, Elliott put forth the question: What if, by eight years old, children could possess the mechanism to disrupt prejudicial tendencies? In "Shades of Brown: The Official Biography of Jane Elliott and the Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes Exercise," Todd Mealy examines the origins, use, and implications of her eye color exercise. Following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968, Elliott set out to prove or disprove her case, first with elementary school students in her hometown of Riceville, Iowa, and later with adults in seminars of corporate, correctional, educational, and military personnel. The Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes role-playing concept was the way, Elliott discovered to mitigate inclinations of racism and prejudice and to teach the central lesson that we are one race. Todd Mealy is an adjunct professor of History at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and is also a teacher at McCaskey High School in Lancaster, PA. He has spent two decades teaching both History and Writing at schools in the Keystone State. He is also the founder and director of the National Institute for Customizing Education, and has written several books on education, race and history, including "Equity in the Classroom," "Legendary Locals of Harrisburg," and "Glenn Killinger, All-American." "Shades of Brown" is available through Sunbury's Oxford Southern Press imprint.

Hey Tanner Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, in honor of Bob Saget's (Danny Tanner) Heavenly Birthday, I am covering Full House S4E15: Ol' Brown Eyes, which aired January 11, 1991. In this episode Danny feels uncool when DJ turns to Joey and Jesse instead of him. I enjoyed this episode, it being one I don't really watch in my regular rotation. Danny thinking he was going to surprise DJ at this fundraiser she put together for her school by singing the song "My Generation" was ridiculous. Even Jesse, Joey and Becky try to talk him out of it and thankfully DJ catches him ahead of time when she walks into the livingroom and sees him singing this song dressed in a metal holed black leather jacket and leather pants with a grinning skull t-shirt. I would be embarrassed and uncomfortable too if I were her. Thankfully he comes to his senses. Why does it matter if DJ thinks he's cool or not. It seems like Danny is always trying to compete with Jesse for his kids attention of thinking he's cool and hip and with it. Michelle and the Hot and Cold game with Joey was hilarious, seeing him get so frustrated with her to the point where he is crawling around on the floor following her as she retraces her steps. Join me in June when I cover for the Father's Day Series, Full House S5E4: Where Oh Where Has My Little Girl Gone?, which aired on October 8, 1991. In this episode After snooping in DJ's room and finding out that a bad rumor about her has been spread around school and she refuses to talk to him about it, Danny worries that their father-daughter bond is fading. I hope you enjoy the podcast episode and have a great week everyone! To EMAIL The PODCAST GO TO: omhcfhfhpodcast@gmail.com

Happy Mother's Day Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I'm covering in honor of Mother's Day, Fuller House S5E6: The Mayor's Bird, which aired on December 19, 2019. In this episode the Mayor of San Francisco needs a house call to cure her bird, Ethan is invited to participate in Gibbler Game Night, Steph contemplates her future as mother of Dani. I thought this was a cute and funny episode. I really let my dislike for Gia be known even though she's not in this episode. Stephanie and baby Dani were so great, and Steph's voice is amazing. Steve handing out the advice to Steph when she is confused as to what direction to take her career now that she is a mom. Gibbler Game Night, woo boy, that was a wild and hilarious time. Ethan is a keeper, he's so sweet and understanding with Ramona and really cares about her. DJ and Matt with the After Hours Pet House Calls was funny too. I like that DJ and Matt can still be good friends after being romantically involved. Overall this episode provided a fun time and a good many laughs through out. Join me next week when I cover in honor of Bob Saget's birthday Full House S4E16: Ol' Brown Eyes, which aired on January 11, 1991. In this episode Danny feels uncool when DJ turns to Joey and Jesse instead of him. Have a great week everyone and I hope you enjoy the episode! To EMAIL The PODCAST GO TO: omhcfhfhpodcast@gmail.com
