Welcome to our newest series "Kick It With Kittie". We have brought on one of our local musicians to join the podcast team to get even more involved with our Texas metal bands. This is the pilot episode where she talks to Phil and James of Whore of Bethlehem straight out of Austin, Tx. Whore of Bethlehem is an extreme metal band that hails from Austin, TX. Originally formed in 2009 by Ryan Sylvie, TJ Rodriguez, and Rene Martinez the band was established to break away from the signature brutal death metal sound of Texas with a more blackened and sinister approach. Phil and James joined the band in 2014 and rounded out the lineup for the debut album "Upon Judas" Throne which was unleashed in the May of 2014 to high acclaim of metal fans all over the world. After the album's release the band added Alan Berryman on bass and Sam Axelrad on drums to the fold as the band continued to build a solid Texas fan base. The guys have a chat with Kittie about what they have been up to over the past few years, who their influences are, what's coming up as far as new music/shows and what shampoo they use as well as other little goodies. Good news is new music is just around the corner but they are taking their time to do it right the first time. The song featured in this episode is "Invocation" of their 2017 release "Extinguish the Light"

What could be a better example of free speech in America than to be able to speak freely in public in another language? And when it comes to patriotism, what could be more patriotic than defending our country by actually being able to understand our allies, and our enemies, in their own languages? To help envision such a new normal in America, we take you to a country that shows how a linguistically diverse nation can function. Come with us as America the Bilingual goes to Morocco, in Episode 39 of our podcast. The America the Bilingual podcast is part of the Lead with Languages campaign of ACTFL — The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. This episode was written by Steve Leveen, the founder of America the Bilingual, and edited by Fernando Hernández, who also does our sound design and mixing. Mim Harrison is the editorial and brand director for the America the Bilingual project. Graphic arts are created by Carlos Plaza Design Studio. Caroline Doughty is our social media maestro. Beckie Rankin is the podcast’s associate producer. Daruma Tech powers the America the Bilingual website. Rene Martinez and Michelle Hall are the co-founders of Miss Shining Star. Rene’s daughter, Sofia, has special needs and she was having trouble attending pageants that could cater to her. Thus, Miss Shining Star and a community of loving parents and individuals was born. Miss Shining Star is the only pageant in Washington state to celebrate young girls and teens with special needs. On the show, Rene and Michelle share their story of how they got started, their fears of it being a very negative ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ event, and so much more. Key Takeaways: [5:30] Rene and Michelle share how many volunteers their pageant has. [10:00] Miss Shining Star is the first pageant of its kind to start in Washington state. [14:15] Both Rene and Michelle were afraid that their pageant would turn into a Toddlers & Tiaras kind of event. [18:10] The event is incredibly supportive, and the pageant has formed a community of positive and encouraging people. [23:20] Why are young teenage girls volunteering for this event? [28:50] At the end of the day, it’s about breaking down barriers to inclusion. [32:10] This year, 1,200 pajamas were collected by volunteers to donate to the hospital, women’s shelters, and Ronald McDonald House.
