The latest crisis of mass starvation and death in Gaza seems to have finally cut through the layers of denial and media self-censorship in Israel – and in both Arab and mixed cities, demonstrations against the horrifying humanitarian situation are drawing tens of thousands of protesters. This week, the Haaretz Podcast includes two firsthand accounts of survival from Gaza: 32-year-old Hana and 24-year-old Abdel Halim. Speaking on the podcast, Haaretz journalist Nagham Zbeedat told host Allison Kaplan Sommer that the situation in Gaza has “gone from bad to unbearable” and it has become “fight to simply remain a human being in Gaza, through all of the starvation, bombing and endless loss.” She also reports on the new wave of protests led by Palestinian citizens of Israel, who have overcome fear of government retribution and taken to the streets en masse to protest the war and government policies that have led to the current dire situation. “I dare say it's the first time in history that we witness a livestreamed starvation war committed against unarmed people,” said Zbeedat. Also on the podcast: Linda Dayan, a reporter who covers the anti-war protest movement for Haaretz, discusses how demonstrations against the humanitarian disaster in Gaza are becoming more mainstream. After nearly two years of focusing sharply on the hostages and calling for a cease-fire deal, Dayan said, Jewish Israelis are “putting themselves on the line and countering what was kind of a very well accepted talking point until fairly recently: that the Gazans aren't starving, that there's a lot of aid, and Hamas is just stealing it.” From what she’s seen and heard, Dayan expects the protests focused on hunger and death in Gaza to grow. “I have a feeling there's going to be more and more of these until something changes,” she said, adding that she believes that the Netanyahu government’s decision to allow “humanitarian pauses” in the fighting “is partially because some people are listening to the street.” Subscribe to Haaretz.com for up-to-the-minute news and analysis from Israel and the Middle East in English. The age-old adage, that there's a sucker born every minute, in reality describes every one of us in our spiritual lives. We so often fail to realize how we're being schemed against, how we're being influenced, and ultimately how we conform to the patterns of this world. We're ignorant to the implicit costs and systems that keep us from flourishing in our spiritual lives - and what we can't see, we can't break through. But once we wake up and begin to shamelessly resist the influences and habits in our lives that hold us back or lead us astray, we grow in spiritual maturity and experience the freedom of becoming more like Jesus and living in the full glory of who God created us to be. Scripture: Romans 12:1-3 A Living Sacrifice 12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Humble Service in the Body of Christ3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Thanks for listening to Customer Success & Failures.Join my book launch team for "The Strategic Customer Success Manager": https://www.strategiccustomersuccess.com/ Customers deleting your emails without reading them is the new customers sending your calls to voicemail. I can guarantee that your customers delete your emails without even reading them. Why? Because you most likely aren't offering enough value to warrant them taking even 5 seconds to scan your messages.I've unofficially banned the words “checking in” from our customer success team's vocabulary. It's a waste of time as customers don't need you to check in with them. Either they will reach out to you if they need something, or they will respond if you offer them something that they deem valuable.Be your customer's blind spotWhat excites customers is when you notice an issue or an area of opportunity they weren't aware of. If you can be your customer's blind spot, you will get noticed and build trust. I recently saw an amazing example of this from my own CSM team. One of our customers is being impacted by the current trade wars, and our CSM reached out to them to not only provide some tips but also make certain modifications that would help them automate their current processes. Our CSM knew that they were short-staffed and would probably not have made this on their own. She knew that they really needed our help and that if we didn't step in and provide value, we may have a churn risk on our hands. This change was going to save them time and provide a better experience for their end customers. She not only stepped in, but her communication was extremely crisp, so they understood what was expected of them. She even provided examples of the positive impact of the changes she made. She was acting as her customer's blind spot. What was the end result? She earned a call with the customer where she could quickly review the changes she made and better understand what else was happening in their business. In this way, she can look for additional opportunities to drive more value and build trust. What I love about this approach is that she operated as if the client's time was precious and it wasn't a given that the client would jump on a call with her. She earned that right. Before she could switch to a more strategic perspective with the client, she was very tactical and got her hands dirty in the product. There are a few additional lessons to point out.Act as if you won't get a responseToo often, I hear “Well, they just ignore all of my reach-outs” as an excuse for not engaging the customer. That may be the case, but you first need to ask yourself, are you providing enough value to the client that earns you the right to get a response? I'm not talking about mentioning a recent product release of yours. Are you sending them something that they truly see as valuable? Are you teaching them something about themselves that they don't know about? While you may think you're wasting your time as they'll probably just ignore your email, you have to put these concerns aside. Communicate as if you won't get a response from the customer and be OK with that. What do you think is the response rate of emails to your sales reps? Probably 5% at best. Your response rate should be much higher, but don't expect to hear back, and don't be discouraged after that first reach out. You should be tracking whether it was received and opened. That tells you that your clients may be finding it valuable. Expect to send a follow-up if you don't get a response. If your message contains something of significant value, I can guarantee that it will have a higher chance of a response. In my follow-up messages, I like to use “no” oriented questions such as “Were those updates I suggested not helpful?”. This tends to get more traction.Regardless, have a mindset that you may not hear from your client, but you should be sending your updates or message regardless.Don't try to do too much all at onceWhile providing something of value is a necessity when reaching out to clients, don't do too much all at once. Just keep things simple and focus on the most impactful actions. You can then earn the right to take additional actions. That's what my CSM did. When the client responded enthusiastically to her message, she then recommended additional changes. This ensured the client wasn't overwhelmed. It's like the old cars that would be flooded when you gave them too much gas. Go easy at the beginning with your clients so their engines are warm and they are receptive to taking on more.Gone are the days when there was a 99% chance your customers would respond to your communications. With layoffs, leaner teams, and the sheer amount of technology vendors that many of your clients deal with, they don't have the time! They don't even have the time to read your communication. You need to stand out from the rest. You need to earn every minute of your customer's time and not expect anything in return. But, if you prove your worth by providing something that they perceive as valuable, you have a better shot of creating a partnership that will result in a longer-term relationship. PS: One tip I mention in my book is this concept of the golden nugget. This is a valuable piece of information that your clients are most likely unaware of. Create a golden nugget database that you and your team can refer to. You can even create a custom AI GPT to query.PPS: I'm so happy to announce that I'm formally starting my launch team for my new book, The Strategic Customer Success Manager, where I talk about these concepts and more. Plain Talk With Rob Port
528: 'I'm grateful for every minute I have in this job'

"This is the best job I could ever imagine," North Dakota U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider said on this episode of Plain Talk. Schneider was appointed to that position by President Joe Biden. Later this year, when America elects a new president, he may be out of a job, depending on how the country casts its ballots. A Republican president isn't likely to keep a Democratic appointee, but if Vice President Kamala Harris wins, would Schneider want another term in the office? He says yes. "I'm grateful for every minute I have in this job." My co-host Chad Oban and I asked Schneider about whether his office has seen any local blowback from national politics, where the FBI and the Department of Justice have, in recent years, been accused of political bias by both Republicans and Democrats. FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has rejected demands to resign from former President Donald Trump, the man who appointed him, and who recently visited North Dakota, has frequently been at the center of interparty food fights. Schneider says national-level drama has had little impact on federal law enforcement operations in North Dakota. "Not at all," was his reply to our question. "In North Dakota, the FBI is, rightly so, seen as law enforcement," he said. "I don't pick that up at all that there's any distrust of federal law enforcement here in North Dakota," he continued. We also asked Schneider about the recent federal prosecution of former Republican state Sen. Ray Holmberg, which resulted in a guilty plea to crimes related to traveling to Europe to pay for sex with minors. Schneider was recused from the case by the Department of Justice because he, like Holmberg, served the Grand Forks community in the state Senate. "You can just about imagine how I feel," he said when asked what it was like to watch someone he worked closely with plead guilty to those crimes. Also on this episode, Oban and I discussed school schedules, and how their complexities can make things hard for parents, and also the on-going struggles of the North Dakota High School Activities Association to deal with terrible, often bigoted behavior at sporting events. No better time to join and show your commitment to the Torah. Click on the link to join this program. https://chat.whatsapp.com/ EJFtV50LPJq44X7o0nthnN Hashem values life so much. The halacha says that if a person has a condition that is potentially life-threatening, it's a mitzvah to desecrate Shabbat to save his life. The quicker people act to help him, the more praiseworthy they are. If there is any risk of life, a person is not even allowed to ask a rabbi if it's permitted to desecrate Shabbat because every second counts. There are many details to these halachot and everybody should learn them. But from this one halacha , we see the value Hashem gives to life. Even though violation of Shabbat is one of the most severe sins in the Torah, when it comes to life, it's even a mitzvah to desecrate it. Every second counts. A Hatzalah member told me he received a call from a shul. When he arrived, the rabbi there told him that a congregant looked very bad. The man was sweating and experiencing chest pains. The Hatzalah member immediately recognized that this man was having a heart attack. The man told the Hatzalah member he was not going to a hospital under any circumstances. The Hatzalah member tactfully told him to just step outside for some air. While they were outside, he gave him medication that would slow down the process of any further artery clogging. Then, an ambulance pulled up and the man was asked to get on just to take an EKG. The test showed that he had full blockage in one artery and majority of another. The Hatzalah rushed him to the hospital, and he was immediately taken in for surgery. His heart stopped while on the operating table, but baruch Hashem, they were able to revive him and save his life. The surgery was a success, and the man was able to go home just two days later. The doctor said afterward, if this man was not given medication to slow down the heart attack and was not rushed to the hospital like he was, he would not have survived. The Hatzalah member who arrived first and administered the medication told me that this particular case was especially dear to him. Over twenty years ago, when he was in day camp, he was very shy and had a hard time making friends. A young man who worked in the kitchen, who was his brother's friend, took him under his wing and made sure to help him have friends. He would call him into the kitchen occasionally and give him ices to give out to the boys and it was only because of him that this Hatzalah member was able to make friends then and keep them. Now, over two decades later, this Hatzalah member was the one who administered the medication to this same man who had helped him in camp live a happy life. Now the Hatzalah member helped this man continue on with his life. Hashem works in amazing ways. Every deed we do is remembered and rewarded. Every minute of life is valuable. Hashem values our lives so much and we have to do the same.
