Ryan Lange is an ultra-endurance athlete, entrepreneur, and running coach who has completed all three 200 mile races in the Destination Trail Series, has completed multiple ultramarathons, and runs his own companies at the young age of 26 years old. Going through a massive transformation both physically and mentally, Ryan was able to turn himself from someone who was overweight and picked on in high school, to an ultrarunner and entrepreneur who is incredibly fulfilled today. A few keys to his success has been building discipline, confidence, and grit as a runner. And in this episode, he covers how he is able to build all of those things in his life (so you can too). In this episode of the “GILTI Conscience” podcast, Kroll directors Ryan Lange and Kerim Keser and Skadden partner Johannes Frey join our hosts Nate Carden and David Farhat to explore the details of the German nonresident IP withholding tax. They discuss taxation questions that are still up in the air, how the rule could affect multinational corporations, the valuation of intellectual property (IP) registration and the best steps to take if you owe taxes under this law. Originally implemented in 1925, the German nonresident IP withholding tax is coming back into the public eye after years of inactivity. The tax law states that if a foreign resident company has an IP registered in Germany, it may be subject to German nonresident taxation. However, uncertainty remains around authorities' ruling on the tax, the process for determining tax requirements and to whom the tax applies. At present, it remains unclear which types of multinationals are affected by this tax law. However, tax experts advise that companies with an IP registered in Germany cover their bases in order to avoid an audit, interest risk, liability risk and even corporate risk. This means companies should disclose their situation to German authorities.

"There's something that you could push yourself in physically or mentally that makes you a tougher individual." Ryan Lange is a 24-year-old ultramarathon runner and business owner. He became the youngest person to ever run a 200-mile race at just 20-years-old. Ryan's objective is to show others the value created by pushing your body and brain to their absolute limits. Ryan owns and operates an outdoor apparel company (Live GenZ), a product development company (Persistent Design & Marketing), and he's also an RRCA certified running coach (RaveRunner Training). He ran the Moab 240 in 86 hours. A self-described "chubby" kid growing up, Ryan began running freshman year of college to lose weight. This led to a marathon, then a 50 mile race, then a 100-mile race, and finally races surpassing 200 miles. WOW! What a special treat! We get the complete insider's perspective on what it's like to prepare for, execute and learn from a 100 mile Ultramarathon from the RaveRunner, Ultramarathoner, Ryan Lange! --- Ryan is back for a sequel on Tough Talks but this time we don't just talk ABOUT his experience with these absurdly long runs - we join him IN it! --- We break it up into two segments. First we discuss he preparation routines and his pre-race mentality. Then he color commentates 6 video clips that were filmed of him DURING the race at his rests (Aid Stations). And walks us through, in detail, the elements of his physical, mental and tactical preparation, how he dealt with the demons, the lessons he learned from it, how he will apply those moving forward (next race is 200 miles around Lake Tahoe - one that defeated him last time!) and how all of this applies to the rest of us mortals. As Ryan says, "Be your most authentic self and only good things will happen." In only one episode, Ryan and I dive deep into his journey and discuss his complete evolution from his old self. We get into things such as authenticity, vulnerability, judgement, racing, habits, aspirations, and more. Ryan has come a long way since high school sports. He's run hundred-mile races, created his own company, but most importantly, he upgraded self. Ryan Lange is the Founder and Lead Creative at GenZ. He created this company based off of his own personal needs with running, raving, and ultra-racing. Looking back on the past year we have had a lot of guest on, but one of them has really brought some major keys when it comes to perseverance and mindset. That guy is Ryan Lange and we have him back on today to bring some more to our grinders. Ryan Lange is an entrepreneur and long distant runner. He has done multiple 100+ mile runs and has finished every one of them but ONE. His last run left him on his knees.... literally. Ryan explains his story and what he has learned from this experience. Ryan Lang is only just turned 22 years old and already his ultra marathon bio reads like that of a very accomplished ultra running 40 plus year old. With the Moab 240mile race and the Tahoe 200 miler and soon to add the Big Foot 200 miler to the list along with a bunch of 100 milers and 50 milers this young man knows a lot about what it takes to take on big scary goals and to have the self belief and mental strength to see these challenges through. But it wasn't always that way. You see only 4 years ago Ryan was 235 pound overweight unfit teenager who just got sick of being teased about his weight and decided to do something about it so he started running. First one mile at a time then 2 or 3 and within months he was absolutely hooked. Loving the accolades from people telling him how good he looked he powered on into first marathon then ultra marathon and then bigger and bigger. But he hasn't stopped there besides studying he has also launched a successful hydration pack business www.livegenz.com and uses the lessons learnt from the huge obstacles he has already faced in his races to fuel his persistence when it comes to business. This guy is a young gun but is neither arrogant nor over confident but a someone with a big heart for others and an amazing future ahead and a lot to teach despite his young age. Take a run with 21 year old ultra runner Ryan Lange of Medford, NJ. In this episode we learn how this once 235 lbs. high school football player has morphed his life to not only be able to run in ultras, but to become a finisher of the Moab 240 and Tahoe 200. This inspiring young man has many tangible lessons learned that others can keep in their own tool belts along the way.
We all know that we need to be mentally tough. There's no question of that. Yet, forging mental toughness seems to be one of the most elusive pursuits. All of us know how to develop physical toughness but rarely do we have any practices in place that will help us develop mental toughness. My guest today, Ryan Lange, is one of the most mentally tough men I know. It's amazing considering he's only 21 years old. I won't get into all that he's accomplished just yet but please understand that the amount of physical strain he's put on his body is simply incredible. Today we talk about developing the capability to transcend pain, fostering the willingness to embrace hardship, why hard work is omnipotent, and how to forge more mental toughness. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Developing the capability to transcend pain Developing a willingness to embrace the hardship The critical importance of long-term focus How to break those long-term goals into micro goals The dangers of not developing mental toughness How to effectively train the mind Why hard work is omnipotent How to maintain focus in a world of distraction Our obligation as men to be mentally fit Keeping yourself from wasting experiences The power of linear progression RYAN LANGE Ryan Lange reached out a couple months ago and asked to come on the podcast. Honestly, at first thought, I wasn't going to have him on because so many people talk about mental toughness. It's a little like saying you want to talk about leadership. But then, I started looking into what this kid has done. And, I say kid because he's only 20 years old. Now, I realize he's a man (not a child) but I'm absolutely blown away with what he's done already. He's completed 50K's, 50 milers, 100 milers, and at the end of last year completed a 238 mile race in Moab, UT. To give you an idea of what that means, it took roughly 86 hours for him to complete. I'm incredibly inspired by Ryan and his approach to mental toughness. You will be too.
