Hi there! Feel free to drop us a text if you enjoy the episode. In this episode of the New England Endurance Podcast, we head to Manchester, Connecticut, to sit down with David Fusfeld, President of the Manchester Running Club.David shares his own “adult onset runner” story, starting in his 30s, getting hooked on the marathon, qualifying for Boston, completing 23 marathons, and recently earning his Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star medal. From there, we dive into the history and growth of Manchester Running Club, which started in 2009 and has become one of Connecticut's most active and visible running communities. The conversation explores how MRC balances competitive racing with a welcoming social culture, why group runs often work best when they mix workouts, breweries, long runs, and coffee, and what makes Manchester such a strong running town. David also highlights the club's signature events, including the Spring Street Mile & 5K and the MRC Track & Field Series, a summer event that brings hundreds of kids and adults to the track each week and helps introduce young athletes to the sport. We also talk about the broader Connecticut running scene, the growth of clubs across the state, the iconic Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving, and why David believes Connecticut is “punching above its weight” as a running community.Whether you're a competitive runner, a social runner, a parent looking to get your kids involved, or someone nervous about joining a club for the first time, this episode is a great reminder that running is better when you find your people.Learn more:Manchester Running Club: manchesterrunningclub.comMRC Track & Field Series: mrctf.orgInstagram: @manchesterrunningclubPhotography: @meteredexposureThis podcast embarks on a journey to showcase and celebrate the endurance sports community in New England.

Have you spotted the hats and shirts with "Pelkey Running Club" at recent runDisney events? What began as a one-time costume joke has blossomed into a global running phenomenon, and we're bringing you the full story straight from the source. We sit down with Grant, the club's founder, and John Pelkey himself—the beloved runDisney announcer who went from joking about runners' early wake-up calls to having his name on gear worn on all seven continents. Their chemistry is infectious as they share how a spontaneous gift of four embroidered hats at the 2023 Princess Weekend sparked something neither could have anticipated. As Grant puts it, the Pelkey Running Club is defined by one word: "community."Ravi joined us for the Race Report spotlight, and we wrapped up this week's episode by drawing inspiration from our friends Tomi and Chad who completed the grueling Keys 100 race, this weekend.Pelkey Running Club LinksInstagram: @pelkeyrunningclubRunning Club Gear John's St. Jude FundraiserRise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonPassport to RunRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off)Rise and Run Podcast Cruise Interest Form with Magic Bound Travel Send us a textSupport the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. We were emotionally hardened by some sleepless nights before recording this special episode! A couple months ago, a brilliant podcast listener on Reddit published her predictions that Spring Energy's Awesomesauce gel had incorrect calorie counts. Three weeks ago, those findings were confirmed by a German lab. This past week, everything exploded on social media with all of Spring's gels listing fraudulent calorie totals, roping us into a situation that we never hope to relive. This episode talks about our emotions. We are furious about the mislabeling. We wish we could go back in time and tell ourselves that nutrition labels can list fraudulent calorie totals, and we wish we could undo the health and performance struggles that so many runners have felt due to the egregious mislabeling. We are sorry for our connections to Spring years ago, and we love you all. At the same time, love has limits. This past week pushed us to our emotional edge. It demonstrated some of the problems with social media and a society that can chase clout and clicks over kindness and nuanced facts. Podcast listeners got us through, and we are emerging with more compassion, more courage, and fewer f's to give. As Megan wrote, "Love to you all, especially to any woman who has dealt with a small man: may you become larger in who you authentically are." And we threw in a bunch of fun topics! Other topics: reflections from sleepless nights, Pride Month joy, lessons from some of the highest energy expenditures ever studied, women in coaching, Unbound Cycling and the success of multisport athletes in bike races, Kilian's legendary dominance at Zegama, a study on CBD in runners, running club romantic connections, our love of Park Runs, and hot takes. We finish with some Listener Corner messages that kept us going in a really hard time. We love you all! Yes, ALL. The world can be dark and scary, especially on social media, and we hope that we can help fill your lives with as much light and as many calories as possible.
