2022 - 06 - 19 - Ministers Of The Round Table - 7 Letters - Smryna by Buford Church of Christ
I knew that would get your attention! The devotional this week is not about vaccinations, which is one of the most talked about subjects in the body of Christ today. My appeal to you, dear reader, is about something far more serious than the COVID disease and vaccinations. It is about your eternal soul. The Spirit of God says in Revelation 20:13-15, “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Read those passages again, slowly and prayerfully. There are individuals who will be cast into the lake of fire forever, which is called the second death. This speaks of eternal separation from God in a place of torment and suffering. God is not warning us of this because He is trying to “scare us”, but because it is a serious thing that every human being must come to grips with. We all will die and step into an eternity in either heaven or hell. Lest we think that this warning of the second death is not to be taken very seriously, The Spirit says in Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Hopefully you (and I!!) are not ignoring these warnings about the second death. The questions I hope you are asking this morning are: How do I escape this second death? Is there a ‘Divine Vaccination' against the second death? The Lord Jesus Christ said to the church at Smryna, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” (Revelation 2:11) There is ‘the vax'!! It is given to “He that overcometh”. The Lord Jesus said, “… It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 21:6,7 ) Jesus also proclaimed, “… I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) No human being can come to The Father, and in so doing escape the second death, apart from faith in The Person of Jesus Christ and His atoning death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Faith in Jesus Christ IS how we escape the second death. Jesus Christ IS The Vaccination! “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:6) Question, dear reader: Have you come to saving faith in The Lord Jesus Christ? “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” (Revelation 21:17) Christ bids you to come to Him this morning and receive much more than a shot in your arm. Come receive eternal life into your soul. SELAH

Jesus mentions this Synagogue of Satan twice in His Seven Letters to Seven Churches, so its obviously something that He wants us to take note of. We postulated in the study on the Letter to Smryna, that from a contemporary perspective, these folks were likely Edomites. But who might the Synagogue of Satan be historically and prophetically? These “non-Jews” have four aspects. They claim to be Jews They are not Jews They practice satanism in the guise of Judaism They persecute the Church In this two-part study, we look at groups who meet the criteria that Jesus set to some degree. In this first part, we examine: Replacement Theologists – Those who believe the Church has replaced Israel as God's Chosen People, The 10 Lost Tribes – The idea that the northern tribes of Israel became “lost” after the Assyrian captivity, migrated to northern Europe and sailed across the ocean to establish America (seriously) Black Hebrews – Those who believe that the true Jews had African physical features, migrated to Africa during the Jewish diaspora, and were abducted as slaves to the Americas (seriously). While these groups meet some of the criteria, they don't meet them all. In the next episode, we will look at a group that MAY fit all the criteria to be the Synagogue of Satan. In our “Dear Church” series, we’re studying the 7 letters to the 7 churches from Jesus in Revelation 2 and 3. This week, we looked at the second letter – the letter to Smyrna. This letter would be a tough one to receive from Jesus. Smyrna was a top tier city in its day – considered first in Asia, beautiful, prosperous, safe, and fun. And yet the Christ-followers there were heavily persecuted. They were suffering – poor, slandered, bullied, thrown in prison, and killed.
