The show opened with Tom running down a list of news items, including new information about the coming Kia K4 small/affordable EV, Moody's downgrade of Nissan's credit worthiness, and an update on slowing Tesla sales. Jill and Tom also corrected themselves on a pair of issues: Tom forgot that the current-generation Explorer is based on rear-wheel-drive architecture (episode 262), and Jill suggesting that the 2025 Nissan Altima is not available with the brand's ProPILOT semi-autonomous driver-assistance system (episode 263). Still in the first segment, Jill shared her review of the freshened Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV. Updates including improved range, and a new off-road themed trim level. In the Second segment, Jill and Tom are joined by Brad Parker of Dealnow.com. Brad shared a number of tips related to improving the value of your trade-in. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Engine Parts” quiz. The hosts also discussed bad model names, as suggested by listeners. (Follow the Car Stuff Podcast on Facebook.)
Jill and Tom opened the show discussing Renault technology which promises to significantly reduce the time it takes to extinguish an EV fire. The hosts also discussed the Lexus decision to drop the sporty RC coupe from the luxury brand's lineup. Tom followed this discussion up with one of his “X” polls, this time he asked users of the platform to pick the cooler marque: Bentley or Rolls-Royce. Listen in for the answer. Still in the first segment the hosts co-reviewed the 2025 Nissan Altima. While Tom found a lot to like about Nissan's midsize sedan, Jill had her doubts. Listen in for the complete story. In the second segment, Jill and Tom welcome Garrett Laskowski of Panasonic to the program. Garrett was part of the team responsible for fitting ultra-high-end Klipsch audio systems in the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX80. Learn what makes a car sound system good, and what was involved in engineering the Klipsch setup for Nissan's big SUVs. In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom's “Front-wheel drive or AWD?” Quiz.

Three artists quietly reshaped pop music in 2024, though you might not know it from your Spotify Wrapped. As listeners question the accuracy of their year-end streaming stats, we explore the innovative sounds bubbling up just below the algorithmic radar. Tampa's "Swamp Princess" Doechii brings narrative depth back to hip-hop through her chameleonic vocal approach. Bedroom producer Mk.gee discovers entirely new possibilities for the electric guitar by deliberately recording "wrong." And BLACKPINK's ROSÉ challenges K-pop industry constraints while building bridges to Western pop on her revolutionary solo album. These artists point toward an exciting future where pop continues to evolve in unexpected ways, even as streaming platforms try to predict and package our musical tastes. Plus: Our producer Reanna Cruz presents evidence that their Spotify Wrapped might be fibbing, and Nate reveals his most-played track of 2024 was... Jeremy Irons singing "Be Prepared" from The Lion King? The algorithm works in mysterious ways. Songs Discussed Doechii: "Girls," "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake," "NISSAN ALTIMA," "Denial Is A River," "Boom Bap" Mk.gee: "I Know How You Got," "Big Mics," "Are You Looking Up," "Alesis" BLACKPINK"Boombayah," "Kill This Love," "How You Like That," "Pink Venom," ROSÉ: "On The Ground," "APT." Criminals keep coming up with new schemes to part car owners from their vehicles. In this video, you'll learn about yet another trick car thieves use to snatch your car from right under your nose. You'll also find out which cars are targeted the most frequently. TIMESTAMPS: How many cars are stolen in US daily 1:06 The states with the highest rate of car theft 1:38 The most targeted cars 2:10 When the largest number of car thefts occur 2:28 A ruse with money on your windshield 3:06 Kyri Viehman story 4:16 How you can detect a threat 5:14 Other criminal schemes 5:50 How you can avoid your car theft 7:49 #cartheft #cartricks Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/... SUMMARY: According to the FBI's statistics, 2 cars are stolen every minute in the US. This adds up to almost 3,000 cars a day! According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the most targeted cars are the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Ford pickups, Chevrolet pickups, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Dodge pickups, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Impala, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The largest number of car thefts occur on Halloween, followed by Labor Day. On New Year's Day, the chances of losing your car are also pretty high. As soon as you get out of your car to get a closer look at this mysterious banknote, criminals will jump into action. They will get into your car and drive off at record-breaking speed. Walk around your car to check if anything is amiss before you unlock it and start the engine. One sure sign that you're in danger is an almost empty parking lot and another car parked next to yours with somebody sitting inside. A car thief may bump against your car to check if you have an alarm. Many car alarms are so sensitive that a loud motorbike or a rumbling truck can set them off. Some criminals cause car accidents on purpose. For example, they hit another car at the traffic lights. Sometimes you make the life of car thieves much easier without realizing it. Lots of people keep their spare keys inside their car or in a special magnetic box attached to the underside of their vehicle. Don't leave your spare keys inside your car! Keep them at home, or ask your family members or friends to look after them. And make sure there isn't a set of spare keys in your car that you know nothing about. . MDJ Script/ Top Stories for August 27th Publish Date: August 27th BREAK: From the BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Tuesday, August 27th and Happy Birthday to ***08.27.24 – BIRTHDAY – PAUL REUBEN*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Commissioner Invokes 'Bloods and Crips' as Map Feud Rages Severe Weather Challenging Blood Supply Marietta Preservationist Florence Corley Remembered All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Commissioner Invokes 'Bloods and Crips' as Map Feud Rages In a heated Cobb County commission meeting, commissioners debated redistricting after a court ruling invalidated their "home rule" map and ordered elections based on a state legislature map. The debate revealed deep divisions, with accusations of political bias and distrust of the county attorney. Commissioner Jerica Richardson faces potential loss of her seat, but she would remain a "de facto" commissioner during any appeal. Republican commissioners argue for repealing the home rule resolution to comply with the law, while others worry this would delay the process. The meeting was marked by intense rhetoric, reflecting broader political tensions. STORY 2: Blood Emergency: Severe Weather Challenging Blood Supply The American Red Cross is facing a national blood emergency exacerbated by recent severe weather, including Hurricane Debby, which has led to the cancellation of around 60 blood drives and a shortfall of approximately 1,500 blood products. In Georgia alone, over 450 blood drives have been canceled in the past decade, with 12 cancellations this year resulting in about 400 uncollected donations. To help alleviate the shortage, donors are encouraged to schedule appointments. Those who donate by August 31 will receive a $20 Amazon gift card, while those donating between September 1-15 will receive an exclusive Red Cross T-shirt. Blood drives are scheduled throughout September and October at various locations. STORY 3: Marietta Preservationist Florence Corley Remembered Florence “Florrie” Corley, who passed away on August 18 at age 91, was a multifaceted Marietta educator and historian. She was a teacher, writer, Presbyterian elder, and co-founder of Cobb Landmarks. Born on January 6, 1933, in Augusta, Georgia, she dedicated her life to preserving and teaching history, from her academic achievements to her work with Cobb Landmarks, which she helped establish in 1974. She taught history at The Westminster Schools and Kennesaw State University and was active in numerous community and historical organizations. A memorial service will be held on August 28 at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. Starting in January 2026, Cantrell will first serve as board chair elect in 2025. She is currently the 2024 vice chair of member and community programs for the chamber. Cantrell, a long-time chamber board member and taskforce participant, has been recognized for her leadership and commitment to the business community. Cobb Chamber President Sharon Mason praised Cantrell for her strategic vision and leadership. Cantrell, who also leads CDH Partners' education studio, was named Small Business of the Year by the chamber in 2023. STORY 5: MHS Student Selected to Delta Community's Apprentice Program Marietta High School senior Ashauna Perry has been chosen for Delta Community Credit Union's High School Apprentice Program. She is one of 17 students selected from nine metro Atlanta districts for the 2024-2025 school year. The program, part of Georgia's Work-Based Learning initiative, allows students to work as part-time tellers at various credit union branches. Perry will apprentice at the Marietta branch on Dallas Highway. Since its start in 2006, the program has included 220 students, making Delta Community a leading employer in Georgia's work-based learning program. We'll be back in a moment Break: INGLES 1 STORY 6: Proposed Marietta Parking Deck Returns to City Council The Marietta City Council will discuss plans for a new parking deck near Marietta Square today. Mayor Steve Tumlin proposed the collaboration with the Downtown Marietta Development Authority (DMDA) for planning, financing, and constructing the deck, with a targeted start date of June 1, 2025. The deck aims to address parking shortages as downtown development increases. Tumlin suggests a revenue bond for financing, potentially implementing paid parking to support the project's costs. The proposed site is on Mill Street, with the design reflecting Marietta's historical aesthetic. Tumlin and DMDA Chairman Tom Browning will present the plan to the Economic and Community Development Committee. STORY 7: One Killed in I-75 Collision with Freightliner Early Saturday morning, a fatal collision occurred on I-75 in Marietta. LaForest Williamson, 46, of Columbia, SC, was driving a Freightliner with two trailers southbound when a 2009 Nissan Altima, driven by Kejaunaye Rollins, 21, of Stone Mountain, collided with the rear of the second trailer. The impact caused the Nissan to spin, partially blocking multiple lanes. From the BG Ad Group Studio this is your news minute on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Today is Monday, August 26th, and I'm Keith Ippolito. A tragic accident on I-75 early Saturday morning claimed the life of a passenger in Marietta. According to Cobb Police, the collision involved a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia driven by 46-year-old LaForest Williamson from Columbia, South Carolina. The truck, which was towing two trailers, slowed due to traffic near Delk Road. Following the truck was a blue 2009 Nissan Altima driven by 21-year-old Kejaunaye [Keh-jaw-nay] Rollins of Stone Mountain. At approximately 2:27 a.m., the Nissan collided with the rear of the second trailer, causing it to spin and stop across two lanes. Both Rollins and her passenger, 28-year-old Anetrya [Ah-net-ree-yah] Johnson of Jonesboro, were rushed to Kennestone Hospital. Tragically, Johnson was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Rollins sustained serious injuries. Williamson, the truck driver, was unharmed. The Henrico County Police Division has released information about two potential vehicles that could be connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred earlier this month in Eastern Henrico. Evidence collected from the 5700 block of Nine Mile Road after the crash July 5 indicated that the vehicle involved could be either a 2012-14 silver Nissan Sentra or a 2009-2018 silver Nissan Altima. The incident, which occurred during the overnight hours, killed Howquana Kara Bugg. On this episode, a 40-year-old man has taken an unusual legal route by suing the creators of Gran Turismo for not granting him a pro driver status after he achieved gold on his first attempt in every S License mission. This raises questions about the transformative power of video games and whether one's virtual achievements can translate into real-life pursuits. Shifting gears, the automotive world witnessed some jaw-dropping sales, including a zero-mile Nissan Altima fetching a staggering $3 million in a Bring-a-Trailer auction, alongside a 36k mile Geo Metro Convertible and a 1988 Yugo selling for surprising prices. Speculations arise about future collector cars, leaving us pondering the potential value of a decent-condition 100k mile EG Civic in 25 years. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man's financial journey took an unexpected turn as he transformed into a financial guru after financing a used Charger with zero down-payment and a daunting 40% APR, prompting reflections on the worst financial mistakes and the credibility of such self-made experts. In the realm of automotive stunts, a "stance kid" achieved an astounding 90 degrees of camber, causing his car to take flight like the Back to the Future Delorean. This phenomenon sparks discussions about owning Deloreans, favorite car movies, and the most clapped out car ever driven. The interview touches on current cars, plans, and future prospects, as well as the evolution of the RaceFFPod podcast and racing aspirations. Lastly, the Chassis Code Challenge adds some friendly competition as we go head to head with our guest to see who knows more chassis codes!

A young woman was shot dead in her car in the early hours of July 20 in Hillsborough County, Florida. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Ashley Voss, a mother of two young boys, was allegedly killed by 32-year-old Aurelio Diaz, Jr., in what authorities are now investigating as a case of premeditated murder in the first degree. According to law enforcement officials, the fatal incident occurred shortly after a text message exchange between Ashley Voss and her children's father, who is also a close friend of the suspect. The conversation reportedly turned dark when the witness, the father, whose identity remains undisclosed, claimed he had planned a prank that went tragically wrong. Law enforcement arrived at the scene after a 911 call ended in silence. Nearly 21 minutes later, they discovered Ashley Voss's lifeless body slumped over in the front seat of her silver Nissan Altima, parked in her grandmother's driveway. She had suffered a single gunshot wound to the back, and the rear window of her car had been shattered. Detectives managed to access her phone, revealing a text message exchange with the father of her younger child. According to their investigation, the conversation paused temporarily around 1:14 a.m. and resumed at 1:27 a.m., but this time, without any response from the victim. Surveillance footage from the vicinity also played a crucial role in the investigation. The footage captured two men walking around the area between 12:20 a.m. and 1:14 a.m., with one man seen beside the victim's car discharging a firearm before fleeing the scene. During the initial interviews with law enforcement, the father of the victim's younger child admitted to being in the area with the suspect that night. He initially identified himself and Diaz in one of the surveillance videos but not in the footage capturing the shooting. However, a twist emerged when the witness-father revealed a shocking intention behind their visit to Voss' neighborhood. He claimed they planned a prank involving the defendant defecating on the victim's front porch. He adamantly asserted that there was no discussion of harming or killing Ashley Voss and that the act was meant to be a harmless joke. In a controlled phone call recorded by law enforcement, Diaz allegedly confessed to the child's father, saying, "I did it just like I told you, walked up to the back window, and boom." However, Ashley Voss's grieving family members find the prank explanation dubious. Rhonda Voss, Ashley's grandmother, and caretaker of her surviving children, emphasized that Diaz had no motive to commit such a heinous act, as he barely knew the victim. She also expressed concerns about the alleged threats made by the children's father regarding an ongoing child support issue. Diaz remains detained in the Hillsborough County jail without bond. On this weeks episode I share some vehicle issues where I've reached a limit in my current testing abilities, forcing me to decide on making a call with out being 100% confident in the diagnosis. Ideally, testing should be able to prove out exactly where the fault lies, but is there a point where you've exhausted your methods, and making your best guess is the right move? What else can we do when we reach a limit in our testing capabilities? A man was hospitalized Sunday night after crashing into a tree off Cobb Parkway in Marietta, police announced. According to the Cobb County Police Department, the man, who has not been identified, was driving a white Nissan Altima north on Cobb Parkway near its intersection with Progressive Way. The car left the roadway and crashed into a tree. The driver was trapped in the vehicle and seriously injured, police said. After being extricated from the car he was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police. A Kennesaw woman was killed Saturday after being hit by a car as she was walking a dog, the Cobb County Police Department announced. Veronica Miller was struck by a car and killed around 9 a.m. Saturday, police said. According to police, Miller was walking the dog and crossing Wooten Lake Road at its intersection with Glenlake Parkway when she was struck. The dog was not injured. Miller was crossing from the north side to the south side of Wooten Lake Road, and was struck by a blue 1999 BMW 328i, according to police. The driver, a 23-year-old Kennesaw man, was not injured. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police. There was no way around it. A Sierra Canyon boys team known for its flash, for its highlights, for the celebrity that follows, was going to have to get gritty Saturday night, assistant coach Chris Howe said. The Trailblazers were taking on nationally ranked Wheeler, a team that Howe said, simply had "dudes." Two of those dudes, in fact, were playing at their future stomping grounds — seniors Isaiah Collier and Arrington Page, a pair of Southern California signees. But after Sierra Canyon fell behind by double digits early, its move-on-a-string defense overwhelmed the prized recruits and Wheeler in a 66-55 win — perhaps the Trailblazers' best of the season. The team down by eight at halftime, Sierra Canyon's staff "challenged" senior Ashton Hardaway, coach Andre Chevalier said after the game. And Hardaway — son of former NBA All-Star Penny Hardaway and a Memphis commit — responded with perhaps his best all-around half as a Trailblazer, getting aggressive on the glass and banging down low with Page. It was his range, though, that propelled him to 18 points and a pair of massive third-quarter threes to pull Sierra Canyon back into the game, Hardaway barking at any Wheeler defender within earshot while backpedaling down the floor. And after a quiet first half, Bronny James continued to show an improved sense of the moment in his senior year, detonating for 17 fourth-quarter points. Collier finished with 17 points but was held by James, Isaiah Elohim and a horde of Trailblazers wing defenders to five-for-16 shooting. Page, who Chevalier called "the most skilled player that we've played all year long," finished with just eight points and seven rebounds. Before all dogs go to heaven, many dogs go to shelters. At an adoption event held by LifeLine Animal Project and Best Friends in Atlanta, a number of dogs — and one cat — were adopted out of the shelter and foster system to become family pets. The dogs were gathered — though socially distanced — on leashes outside the office of Best Friends in Atlanta off of South Cobb Drive near Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Most of them were taken to the event by their foster owners. An outbreak of canine flu in Fulton and DeKalb counties is part of the reason why the shelter system in the metro Atlanta is stressed. According to Vickers, the LifeLine shelters are diverting all new intakes to foster homes instead of shelters to prevent them from potentially coming into contact with contagious shelter dogs. Most dogs recover from canine influenza within two to three weeks, according to the CDC, though the virus sometimes leads to more severe illness. LifeLine is still adopting out dogs that are testing positive for canine flu to people who don't have other dogs. Foster families without other dogs can also help keep infected dogs isolated from shelters. Fostering for any amount of time, even over a single weekend, can help dogs find permanent homes because it provides more information to potential adopters about how a dog behaves in a home environment. Both organizations vaccinate, microchip and either spay or neuter their animals before they are adopted out. For more, visit lifelineanimal.org and bestfriends.org/atlanta. Students and teachers alike lined the streets Friday afternoon to give a warm welcome to Marietta High's boys and girls cross country teams, who swept the state championships last year. 2022 was the second time in three years Marietta claimed both Class AAAAAAA titles, doing so in 2020 as well. Buses carrying the champions processed through west Marietta, ending at the high school. Declared one Burruss Elementary School student as the parade neared, "This is one of the best days of school ever." Students and parents held up signs supporting their favorite runners. People and businesses are responding to a break-in at a local eatery with donations and gifts. Two days before Christmas, thieves smashed the front door of Pie Bar Marietta near Marietta Square around 5 a.m. and left with a cash drawer and safe from the bakery. Owner Lauren Bolden discovered the break-in when she arrived at the store that morning. Pie Bar's locations in Marietta and Woodstock have seen a response from the community in the weeks since the break-in. Woodstock City Church bought tacos for the staff's lunch, Bolden said, while Woodstock Mayor Michael Caldwell asked people to donate money to the business on his Facebook page. Since the break-in, Pie Bar Marietta added some security measures, and it has operated without accepting cash. Bolden said the business is considering going cashless at the Woodstock location, too. Bolden wasn't sure whether the business had recouped the cost of the stolen money and the door replacement yet, but she said the support helped the business get through a difficult day. On December 23, the day of the robbery, several hundred customers were supposed to pick up their Christmas orders from Pie Bar Marietta. Those pies had to moved to the original store, Bolden said, and all the associated customers had to be told their pies were now in Woodstock. Vivan Gamel of Acworth, the general manager for both locations, woke up to several missed calls from Bolden that morning and went into work early to help. Gamel, who works mostly at the Marietta Pie Bar, said she thinks the majority of people who have come in lately have heard about the crime, and are coming in to make sure everyone is okay and support the business. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews - - - - - The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County.
