Gary discusses recent discussions he's had with people regarding eschatology and creedal authority. It seems that every theological topic of debate can be settled with Bible verses, except eschatology and especially ones about the "Three Questions." In debates and discussions about the Trinity and the identity of God, the fallacy of special pleading (or "moving the goalposts") often occurs. This fallacy takes place when one person changes the conditions or definition of their original argument when a counter-argument has met the original conditions, resulting in the original claim being moved farther away in order to avoid admitting the strength of the counter-argument. Anyway. Today we're doing an overview of the Special Pleading Fallacy. In a nutshell, it is the exemption of a person or premise from a generally accepted rule, without justification for the exemption. In other words: an exception to the rule...because reasons. (Get it now?? heheh.)
