Our celebratory audio portrait week continues! After a historic radiothon fundraiser, KZMU News is highlighting a few of the many voices that make this town, region and station so great. This next portrait takes us to the Aneth Point Downs racetrack with horse trainer Broderick Lee. // Show Notes // If you have an idea for a future profile, please reach out to news@kzmu.org. // Broderick Lee Audio Portrait Original Broadcast https://www.kzmu.org/thursday-february-10-2022/ // Music in today's Audio Portrait Running Eiskrokodil (ID 01) – Remastered by Lobo Loco // Other Sounds in today's Audio Portrait SRS_Foley_Horse_Galloping by StephenSaldanha
The Aneth Point Downs racetrack is a focal point for communities in southeastern Utah. “That's pretty much what I do,” said horse trainer Broderick Lee, who was raised on the track. “As soon as I get off work, I come to the horse corral and start tying them up, grooming them, getting them ready to go exercise. And that's how I grew up – loving horses and everything.” Lee spoke to KZMU News for our latest audio portrait. Plus, after their regional paleontologist assessed the Mill Canyon Dinosaur Tracksite, the BLM has acknowledged ‘unacceptable' damage occurred to the 112-million-year-old resource during a work project. // Show Notes // Photo: Broderick Lee trains racehorses in Aneth. The Aneth Point Downs Racetrack is a focal point for communities in the region, but has been closed to popular racing events during covid. // Aneth Point Downs https://www.facebook.com/AnethPointDowns // Sounds in the Audio Portrait: https://freesound.org/people/StephenSaldanha/sounds/165532/ // Music in the Audio Portrait: Running Eiskrokodil (ID 01) - Remastered by Lobo Loco https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Lobo_Loco/my-favorite-blues-country-compilation-remastered-1/running-eiskrokodil-id-01-remastered

Legends say that far north of the Second Citadel, close to the Northern edge of the world itself, lives the Spiral Sage. They say he is a powerful being, a sacred warrior for human good who controls time and the wilderness itself. They say he is a great hero. And he'd better be, because the number of creatures who need saving keeps on rising. First Lord Arum, then Rilla and Sir Caroline, and then... well, you'll just have to hear for yourself. Welcome to the Penumbra, dear Traveler. We hope you enjoy your journey. (Trigger warnings can be found at the bottom of this episode description.) Want Penumbra shirts, posters, and pins? Far, far to the north of the Second Citadel lies the Terminus, a sacred or magical ocean (depending on who you ask), a place of power where world-changing things happen... and where monsters bicker for order and entertainment. Sir Caroline and Rilla are deep in monster country, now: deep enough that the human tales of this land are fuzzy and indistinct. They've wandered into the land of beasts... and soon they'll find that the rules are a little different here. Welcome to the Penumbra, dear Traveler. We hope you enjoy your journey.
