Playlist;(sintonía) MOJO NIXON and SKID ROPER “Pirate radio” (Root hog or die, 1989)MOJO NIXON “Beer ain’t drinking” (Gadzooks!!! Night has fallen on the desert, our first big winter storms soaking the mountains and the coastlines, and now we're getting it pretty good in the southwestern deserts. There may even be a dusting of snow on the Joshua trees and the Yuccas and the junipers at the higher elevations, here and there. But a wet winter is visiting most of the American High Desert this Week of the Winter Solstice ... which used to be the same day as Christmas and New Year's and the Birthday of Dionysus.Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/desertoracleSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The guys are back together for the first time in a while for a coming attractions episode. They discuss memories of Maxim Magazine, educate themselves on Caitlyn Jenner (with no actual education involved) and question what's up with Kanye West. The conversation turns to cereal and movies being released without disclosing that they are musicals. They talk about the marvelous effects on Godzilla Minus One on a rock bottom budget and the last movie of the DCEU. They compare the box office success of The Marvels and Killers of the Flower Moon and give their thoughts on what is going to re-invigorate the MCU. They explore why North American guys don't seem to like playing as a girl. They talk about the logistical nightmare that is being Mr. Beast. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCORD - https://discord.gg/a6UEWh9zft PODCAST - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/miscast-commentary/id1145697204 WEBSITE - http://www.miscastcommentary.com/ TWITTER - https://twitter.com/miscastpodcast TIK TOK - https://www.tiktok.com/@miscastcommentary FACEBOOK - https://www.facebook.com/miscastcommentary TEEPUBLIC - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/miscast-commentary?ref_id=7636 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Joe! Gadzooks! After more than 11 years of this nonsense horseplay, we're finally putting the ol' button back under the protective glass and pretending to go about our lives as well-respected adults who have it all figured out. Yes, the Comedy Button is coming to a close with episode 551, coming to you at the end of February. We've got all the details right here in this mini-episode, so if you don't want to go through life confused and bewildered about why your usual Friday podcast stopped appearing on the Zune Marketplace or wherever these things go now, give it a listen! Sincerely from your pals, Brian Altano, Scott Bromley, Ryan Scott, Max Scoville, and Kristin Van De Yar.
Prepare to embark on a captivating journey through the chronicles of JNCO Jeans, the ultimate 90s street style sensation. We have for you, a vivid recollection of how Jinko evolved from being a niche brand founded by the Riva brothers in 1985, to a nationwide phenomenon, and then saw an unfortunate decline. Strap in as we reflect on how the brand's unique ultra-wide leg styles and graffiti-inspired artwork gained immense popularity, led by the LA graffiti culture and skateboarding scene, only to lose its charm to market forces and counterfeits. As we maneuver through the success story of JNCO Jeans, we also reveal the hitches and hurdles that brought about its downfall. We discuss how the brand's expansion into khakis, tops, shoes, and a misguided attempt at marketing to teenage girls led to dilution of its core identity. Additionally, we delve into the influence of markdowns in stores like Pacific Sunwear and Gadzooks on the brand's appeal. It's certainly a rollercoaster ride, from the heights of popularity to the depths of decline. In the final segment of our discussion, we shift focus to the Afterschool Special Podcast's social media presence and its unique documentary-style approach. We discuss the nostalgic culture of the late 90s and early 2000s, the Riva brothers' monumental influence on the fashion industry, and how innovation sparked a wave of creativity and individuality. We also touch upon how fashion trends from the past are making their way back into the present. From the journey of JNCO Jeans to the broader influence of fashion trends, this episode offers a compelling insight into the ever-evolving world of fashion.

Gadzooks - this is one gold nugget of a special Graventown episode as my guest is a songmaker who, in my mind, makes music that is not of this world. Having spent the last 20 years playing nearly every folk and jazz festival in Canada and captivating audiences across the globe in Japan, Europe, Australia, Mexico, South America, the USA and the Middle East, JUNO and ECMA award winning Jill Barber, with her new album "Homemaker", delivers ten quietly profound songs about the complexities of motherhood, marriage, and the struggle to feel at home in one's own identity. Homemaker is a return to Jill's folk roots. Whereas her most recent albums have been bathed in lush string arrangements, Homemaker sees emotions laid bare, with a stripped-down production style reminiscent of her acclaimed debut Oh Heart and double Juno Award nominated follow-up For All Time and it drops on February 10th. The Troubadour should probably stop talking! Join Erik the Troubadour as h[The management at Gadzooks, a Nerd apologize for the interruption, but Cthulhu and the internet cats insisted the following, properly researched and fact checked information be available to the listener when considering any claims or assertions made by the Troubadour in this episode. Firstly, a Jedi scouting assignment is not one of recruitment but rather to observe and evaluate young cultures on the verge of joining galactic society for potential membership in the Republic. Also, there is no correlation between this or any other Jedi mission assignment and the color of a Jedi's saber. While it is true that many Jedi can be loosely grouped by their approach to the Force into one of three “schools of thought,” which are by no means official, mandatory, or ubiquitous among the Jedi, and that many Jedi who do ascribe to these approaches do tend to favor certain colors of saber (yellow being popular among those calling themselves “sentinels”), no saber colors are by any means relegated or restricted to these groupings, and the choice of color is one each Jedi makes based on personal representations of their connection to the Force and NOT any classification, categorization, or duty assignment. As to Mz. Rey and her plans for the future, when reached for comment she replied she was not ready to make any firm announcements at this date. Secondly, the practice of celibacy is by no means required, or even directly encouraged, by the Jedi Order. A common misconception, the Jedi is actually discouraged from forming any overly strong attachments that may cause conflicts of interest or moral compromises. Thus it is marriage (or any other comparable cultural, faith based, or legal practices) and parenthood that is not allowed among the Jedi. Their first responsibility and priority must be the good of all people of the Republic, but a parent's must be to their own child, thus creating potential conflict. Furthermore, being so strongly attached to someone (or something, hence the Jedis' spartan lifestyle) creates the opportunity for fear, i.e. the fear of losing the object of attachment. And as Master Yoda so wisely said “fear is the path to the Dark Side, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” And so a Jedi must be accepting of and at peace with the possibility of loss in a way that such attachments simply don't allow. Also on the topic of Jedi parenthood, Cthulhu would especially like to point out that two cases of force sensitivity being present in multiple generations of a family out of the hundreds of billions of beings that have lived throughout the history of the galaxy in no way is a significant enough sample size to make any claim of Jedi potential being a truly hereditary trait. Likewise, the cats everywhere on the internet would like to point out that while Luke Skywalker has shown impressive skill as a Jedi, giving his late starting and sporadic training, it is somewhat of a stretch to say he is among the best ever when compared to those who served at the height of the Jedi Order's prominence, and that the only particularly notable use of the Force by Princess Leia Organa was pulling herself out of the vacuum of space which was almost as dumb as that midochlorian garbage and should thus be roundly ignored. Thirdly, on the question of funding and how it could make the Jedi beholden to partisan politics, or even complicit is corruption, it should be known that the Jedi is in actuality not funded by the Senate (though some concessions are made to the Order in return for their service), but in fact by the Jedi Order itself. While the most famous members of the Order are the saber-wielding Knights, Masters, and Padawans of its peacekeeping branch, the majority of Jedi actually serve in the Jedi Service Corps, using their highly honed force sensitivity in conjunction with one of the best educations in the galaxy to provide community service in fields ranging from agriculture to medicine, from engineering to exploration, amongst many others. And while these services were free of charge, in the course of their work Corps members made many advancements, discoveries, and innovations. The Jedi Order did no manufacturing or marketing of these things, but did retain patents and copyrights for which they collected licensing fees from many major corporations. Thus the Order produced its own revenue, all of which went into further funding the Order's work and efforts, keeping them free of any outside influence or special interests. And lastly is the most prominent piece of anti-Jedi propaganda among Imperialists and internet trolls, that the Jedi are some sort of baby snatchers. Please remember that being in the Order is ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY, and any member may choose to leave at any time. The acceptance of younglings into the order is at the discretion of the parents or legal guardians of said youngling, and may be declined. While it is true that under extenuating circumstances the Order may file a request with the Senate for review of the case for the possibility of conscription, this is highly rare. Furthermore, the use of “mind tricks” or any other force abilities to take a youngling from a rightful guardian is not only grounds for dismissal from the Jedi Order, but may mark the user as a potential Sith and result in disciplinary actions up to and including death. As to the age of recruitment, one must again consider the issue of attachment. The choice to enroll one's youngling in the Order is a noble but difficult one, and only grows harder the longer the family has to bond with the child. Likewise, the younger the child, and the less concrete memories of the birth family they form, the less likely they are to harbor lingering attachment to them, and the more easily they will be able to consider their fellow Jedi as their family. It is great sacrifice made by all involved anytime a youngling is recruited, but the youngest possible age has proven to be the least disruptive, allowing this sacrifice to be made for the greater good of the entire galaxy. And we would further remind the listener that it was the breaking of several for these practices that lead to the rise of the Empire and the end of thousands of years of peace and prosperity for all. The most important thing we've learned, So far as children are concerned, Is never, NEVER, NEVER let Them near your television set - Or better still, just don't install The idiotic thing at all. In almost every house we've been, We've watched them gaping at the screen. They loll and slop and lounge about, And stare until their eyes pop out. (Last week in someone's place we saw A dozen eyeballs on the floor.) They sit and stare and stare and sit Until they're hypnotised by it, Until they're absolutely drunk With all that shocking ghastly junk. Oh yes, we know it keeps them still, They don't climb out the window sill, They never fight or kick or punch, They leave you free to cook the lunch And wash the dishes in the sink - But did you ever stop to think, To wonder just exactly what This does to your beloved tot? IT ROTS THE SENSE IN THE HEAD! IT KILLS IMAGINATION DEAD! IT CLOGS AND CLUTTERS UP THE MIND! IT MAKES A CHILD SO DULL AND BLIND HE CAN NO LONGER UNDERSTAND A FANTASY, A FAIRYLAND! HIS BRAIN BECOMES AS SOFT AS CHEESE! HIS POWERS OF THINKING RUST AND FREEZE! HE CANNOT THINK - HE ONLY SEES! 'All right! ' you'll cry. 'All right! ' you'll say, 'But if we take the set away, What shall we do to entertain Our darling children? Please explain! ' We'll answer this by asking you, 'What used the darling ones to do? 'How used they keep themselves contented Before this monster was invented? ' Have you forgotten? Don't you know? We'll say it very loud and slow: THEY... USED... TO... READ! They'd READ and READ, AND READ and READ, and then proceed To READ some more. Great Scott! Gadzooks! One half their lives was reading books! The nursery shelves held books galore! Books cluttered up the nursery floor! And in the bedroom, by the bed, More books were waiting to be read! Such wondrous, fine, fantastic tales Of dragons, gypsies, queens, and whales And treasure isles, and distant shores Where smugglers rowed with muffled oars, And pirates wearing purple pants, And sailing ships and elephants, And cannibals crouching 'round the pot, Stirring away at something hot. (It smells so good, what can it be? Good gracious, it's Penelope.) The younger ones had Beatrix Potter With Mr. Tod, the dirty rotter, And Squirrel Nutkin, Pigling Bland, And Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and- Just How The Camel Got His Hump, And How the Monkey Lost His Rump, And Mr. Toad, and bless my soul, There's Mr. Rat and Mr. Mole- Oh, books, what books they used to know, Those children living long ago! So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install A lovely bookshelf on the wall. Then fill the shelves with lots of books, Ignoring all the dirty looks, The screams and yells, the bites and kicks, And children hitting you with sticks- Fear not, because we promise you That, in about a week or two Of having nothing else to do, They'll now begin to feel the need Of having something to read. And once they start - oh boy, oh boy! You watch the slowly growing joy That fills their hearts. They'll grow so keen They'll wonder what they'd ever seen In that ridiculous machine, That nauseating, foul, unclean, Repulsive television screen! And later, each and every kid Will love you more for what you did

Stanley read the episode notes for the podcast called “The Worst of All Possible Worlds #57: The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe.” He marveled at their ability to convey both the tone of the episode and the appropriate words necessary to take advantage of the SEO. Words like “Whizbang!“, “Gadzooks!“, and “The Truth About Vaccines!” None of these things were in the episode proper, of course, but Stanley could feel their power extending out to the furthest reaches of the world wide web. He gave thanks that these words would feed the Great Beast Algorith'm, whom Stanley knew all should fear and give praise. In fact, just thinking about the Great Beast Algorith'm made Stanley convulse with fright and involuntarily scream, but this terror was immediately satiated as Stanley grabbed hold of his Reassurance Bucket. “MMMM,” Stanley thought, “That's GOOOOOOOOOOD Bucket.” TWOAPW Patreon https://www.patreon.com/WorstOfAll Theme by Brendan Dalton www.brendan-dalton.com https://brendandalton.bandcamp.com Media Referenced in this Episode: Davey Wreden & William Pugh: Life After The Stanley Parable by John Walker https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/davey-wreden-william-pugh-the-stanley-parable-interview
How many movies have you seen that feature a wardrobe montage, a protagonist tearing out an IV to hastily leave the hospital, post-coital bed-sheets that magically only cover the woman's chest, or characters uttering stale lines like, “We've got company”, “No time to explain”, or “He's behind me, isn't he?” All are examples of clichés but they aren't just confined to films and television. Join Albort as he dissects some of the common clichés used in everyday language from the ‘bee's knees' to ‘cat's pajamas' to ‘the early bird catching the worm'. You'll also get familiar with Pipe Dreams, Pink Elephants, Drug Store Cowboys and meet the "most fecund maker of American slang." Gadzooks!
In this episode, David makes his triumphant(?) return to hosting duties as we discuss the state of succession law in the United Kingdom and ponder the possibility of a new round of religiously-motivated civil war in Britain. After that, we discuss the so-called “independent state legislature theory” in relation to the upcoming Supreme Court case Moore v. Harper and why Alexander thinks it should be called “independent state legislature fact.”After that, we make a trip once again to the whimsical world of Captain Kangaroo Court to hear about an attorney hauled before an ethics board for saying the word “gadzooks.” Alexander also has a really funny story that he can't tell you because of professional ethics, so you'll just have to take our word for it… it's pretty funny, though.Introduction, and why the funeral of Queen Elizabeth has caused David personal inconvenience (0:00)British succession law and its recent alteration (7:00)Moore v. Gadzooks, it's another Bonus Credit! This one features a lot of animal talk, and I'll warn you up front it's not all positive. You're gonna learn some dark things about otters, but you'll also learn some hopeful things about buffalo. Also: Simpsons, Swartzwelder, S.H.I.E.L.D., Sharpie, and cellular shades. A SMALL DESCRIPTION OF EPISODES PULLED FROM: (Ep. 221) Extended break. It's the 100th anniversary of the Oakland Zoo! Frank shares his tips for a great zoo trip. Brandon tells a cool story about buffalo. Jaffe makes a Street Fighter joke but Tim shoots him down. (Ep. 222) Pre-show. The Winter Olympics are happening in two days, and nobody knew. Brandon is going to the Oakland Glowfari, tells more of his story about a sad tiger, and shares a horrifying otter fact. (Ep. 224) Pre-show. Hope you like chill hang-outs, everybody. Jaffe explains his random Simpsons experiment. Frank recommends a book. Brandon's eBay alert for an important part of the Jaguar legacy goes off. Further discussion: the pronounciation of ABEbooks, what S.H.I.E.L.D. is an acronym for, when you are and aren't able to watch a movie, sticker and sharpie removal techniques, social media's active deterrence of looking up your own content, cellular shades, insert credit forum presents: one last good Simpsons season The image Brandon linked of the dry erase technique (Ep. 224) Question re-do. Frank needs some water before he answers a question, so while he does that, the rest of the panel riffs a bit. It didn't really fit in the show proper, but I thought it was funny enough to include here. (Ep. 244) Extended break. The Bioshock movie question is actually answered. The new Mortal Kombat and Uncharted movies are discussed.

Gadzooks! We read Secret Origins Annual #3, which attempts to summarize and retcon 180+ issues of Teen Titans history! It's a lot of comic, but we still find time to talk about: being on gork, oceans vs mountains, and the importance of tiny pliers. Enjoy! Enjoy! P.S. Cory had some mic issues, so his part of the audio is a little wonky. Sorry about that. I did my best. Case studyThis case study involves me, not because I'm particularly interesting but because I'm lazy. I have been writing books for a quarter of my life now. It is my job. Like most people, I occasionally wonder if I'm doing the right thing with my life. When writer's block strikes and I can't stomach any more tea or toast procrastination, I fantasise about becoming a carpenter, a tree surgeon, an advertising guru or a postman in the Shetlands. They are my usual four. The last time this career-angst happened, I asked myself the three why-how-what questions. This book is the result of my scribbled answers.1. ‘Bearing in mind the spirit of living adventurously, why am I still writing books after so many years doing the same thing?'It makes me think differently.I'm still learning to become a better writer. It's a mental struggle.I can make a positive impact. It is satisfying.I learn a lot.I can walk my own path.2. ‘OK, I'm satisfied with that. I'll hold off applying to Royal Mail for a while. How can I approach my writing to better encompass trying to live adventurously?'Take more risks.Try something new.Write and publish differently.Make the process more exciting.Force deadlines on myself.Work with interesting people.Learn new skills.Teach something.Speed up.Simplify.3. ‘Gadzooks! That list flowed out quickly. Seems I should make some of this happen. What shall I do next that focuses on living – and writing – adventurously?'Ask questions on social media to see if I'm alone in this or if other people are interested in the same stuff.Write a series of articles about living adventurously so that I can figure some stuff out for myself.Experiment with giving them away in an automated email series.Launch the mailing list with only a few articles written, thereby lighting a small fire under my ass to hurry up before the readers catch up with me!Turn it all into the skeleton of a book.Return to self-publishing to give myself complete freedom and responsibility.Knock up a mock front cover of the book. Stick it online and make the book available for sale, promising delivery of the book before the end of the year. Thereby lighting a blooming big rocket beneath my butt to get this written and to make it good enough for paying customers to be happy. The next thing I know, I am in a late-night McDonald's, drinking tea and launching this whole daft idea into the world before I have time to see sense and wimp out.We have lift off.★ Support this podcast ★
