Gazetelerde ve dergilerde Hakkı Şinasi Çoruh imzasıyla yayımlanan yazıları bir zamanlar büyük bir ilgiyle okurdum. Özellikle Şevket Rado'nun çıkardığı Tarih ve Edebiyat Mecmuasıyla neşredilen makalelerini muhakkak gözden geçirirdim. Hatta bunlardan bazılarını kesip saklardım. Bir gün, Cağaloğlu'ndaki Diyanet Kitabevi'nde şahsen de tanışınca kendisine duyduğum gıyabi muhabbet daha da ziyadeleşti. Geçen gün eski dosyaları karıştırırken işte böyle kesip sakladığım bir yazısıyla karşılaştım. “Tozlardan Yapılan Kerpiç” başlığını taşıyan ve 22 Eylül 1981 tarihli “Dünyada ve Türkiye'de Sabah” gazetesinde yayımlanan bu makaleyi bir kere daha ilgiyle okudum. Kırk bir yıl önce kaleme alınan bu yazının verdiği ilhamla ben de toz, toprak ve çamur hakkında bir iki kelam edeceğim. Daha doğrusu, Sultan İkinci Bayezid'in vefatından sonra mezarına konulmasını vasiyet ettiği tozlar ile oğlu Yavuz Sultan Selim'in çamur sıçrayan ve türbesinde muhafaza edilen kaftanını hatırlatacağım. Evet, insan olarak hepimiz -temizlik namına- tozdan, topraktan, çamurdan uzak dururuz ve böylece doğru hareket etmiş oluruz. Ama unutmayalım ki, bazı önemli şahsiyetler, bu nesneler vasıtasıyla tarih sahnesini bir takım ibret tablolarıyla süslemişlerdir. Önce tozdan başlayalım. Bu kelimenin Arapçası “Gubar” olup “ğayn” harfiyle yazılır. Tevazuyu çok önemseyen bazı şairlerin “Gubari” mahlasını aldıklarını biliyoruz. Yunus Emre'miz de bir şiirinde şöyle diyor: “Hep gubar olmuş tenleri, Hakka ulaşmış canları / Gördün ölenleri Yunus nevbet sana gelmiş yatur” Hat sanatında nesih, rik'a gibi ince yazılmaya elverişli yazıların toz gibi gözle görülemeyecek kadar küçük yazılmış şekline de “Gubari” denildiğini bu arada hatırlatmış olalım. Hem ilmi eserleriyle, hem de nefis yazılarıyla tanınmış olan şair Gubari Abdurrahman Efendi, bu yazı türünün önemli temsilcilerindendir. İbrahim Alaaddin Gövsa, “Türk Meşhurları”nda şöyle diyor: “Kanuni Sultan Süleyman zamanında orduyla Irak Seferi'ne kâtip sıfatıyla iştirak etmişti. Bu sefer esnasında yazdığı bir manzumenin şu beyti pek güzeldir: Gubârî, makdem-i Şâhi'den istersen haber almak / Gubâr ol yollar üstünde gelenden sor, gidenden sor” Tozun anası olan toprağın aslen temiz olduğunu, ilk insan ve ilk peygamber Hazreti Âdem'in ondan yaratılması zaten açık seçik gösteriyor. Toprak temiz olmasaydı su yerine kullanılıp teyemmüm edilir miydi? Ulemadan Mehmet Feyzi Efendi toprağın bu özelliğine şu ilgi çekici cümleyle işaret ediyor: “Mü'minlerin cesetleri toprakta çürümekle istihale olur. (Halden hale geçer.) Kabirde çürümek tathir (temizlik) içindir. Enbiyanın, şühedanın ve kibar-ı evliyanın cesetleri mutahhardır. (temizdir) Temizlenmeye lüzum yoktur. Onun için onların cesetlerini toprak yiyemez.” Hakkı Şinasi Çoruh, yazısına şöyle başlıyor: “Benim bildiğim iki hükümdar öldüklerinde başlarının altına bir kerpiç konulmasını vasiyet etmişlerdir. Biri, Hamdani hükümdarı Seyfüddevle, diğeri de Osmanlı padişahı sultan II. Bayezid'dir. Kerpiç konusunun dayandığı hadis şudur: 'Hak yolunda ayakları tozlananı Allah cehennem ateşinden kurtarır.'” İkinci Bayezid'in böyle bir vasiyetine başka kaynaklarda da rastlanıyor. Mesela Namık Kemal'in, Yavuz Sultan Selim'le ilgili kitabında bunu görüyoruz. Bu padişahın babası II. Bayezid'le ilgili son derece alaka çekici bir ilavede bulunan Ahmed Ersin Yücel, nâm-ı diğer “Zaptiye Ahmed”, yazısının bir yerinde şöyle diyor: “Sultan Bayezid'in yaratılışı sulha meyyal olmakla beraber, dini fikirleri dolayısıyla, cihad sevabını çok aziz bildiğinden muharebelerinde elbisesine ve ayakkabılarına isabet eden tozları ve çamurları büyük bir dikkatle toplattırarak, bunların vefatında yanaklarının altına konmasını vasiyet etmiştir. Ta ki Sadeddin'in tabiriyle, 'Bûy-ı lâtif-i gazâ, kabrini mis gibi muattâr ve ber mûcib-i Hadis-i Şerif âteş-i cahimi ondan dûr olsun'”

Yıldırım Sultan Bayezid

16. asır, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'nun çeşitli makamlarında görev almış önemli ve ilginç simaların iyiden iyiye yükselişine yahut bunların göz kamaştırıcı bir şekilde ortaya çıkışına tanıklık eder. Bu simalar, resmî görevlerinin yanı sıra, ilgilendikleri bilim dalları ve sanatlarla ilgili olarak vücuda getirdikleri eserlerle, yaşadıkları devrin kültürel ortamını etkilemiş ve sonraki zaman dilimlerine de tesir etmeyi başarmışlardır. Onların birkaç dalda eser kabiliyeti, genelde İmparatorluk'ta, özelde ise Payitaht'ta var olan eğitim ve kültürel ortamın yapısına dayanır. Bu yapının ortaya çıkardığı önemli isimlerden biri de Matrakçı Nasûh'tur. Nasûh, Kanunî tarafından verilen beratla artık Osmanlı topraklarında “üstat” ve “reis” olarak tanınmıştır. Silahların nasıl kullanıldığını ve dövüş yöntemlerini üzerine Tuhfetel-Guzât adlı bir kitap yazmıştır. Bu kitapta yay, ok, kılıç, topuz, kargı ve mızrağın nasıl kullanılacağını ve süvâri talimlerini ayrıntılı olarak ele almış ve bunları krokilerle zenginleştirmiştir. Bir tarihçi olarak da önemli yapıtlar veren Nasûh, Kanunî'nin emriyle Taberi Tarihi'ni Türkçeye tercüme etmiştir. Bu tercümeyle yetinmeyen Nasûh, Tarih-i Sultan Bayezid ve Sultan Selim ile Tarih-i Sultan Bayezid adlı iki kitâp daha yazar. Bu kitaplarında ise mezkûr padişahların dönemlerindeki olayları anlatmıştır. Onlarca eserin sahibi, mübâlağa sevmeyen, boş gezmeyen, gezdiği yerleri çok iyi gözlemleyen, zamanını matematik, tarih, hat, minyatür gibi konulara ayıran, dâhî ve ağır başlı bir şahsiyet olan Matrakçı Nasûh'un Kanunî'nin I. İran Seferi'ne ait minyatürlü eseri Mecmu'-ı Menazil olarak bilinmektedir. Nasûh'u, eserlerinde menziller ve minyatürler vasıtasıyla önemli coğrafî bilgiler veren bir “tarihçi” olarak tanımlamak daha doğru bir yaklaşım olmakla birlikte onu tanımlayan iki ana sıfatın “tarihçi ve silahşör” olduğu gerçeği dikkatlerden kaçırılmamalıdır. **(Davut Erkan, _Matrakçı Nasûh'un Hayatı ve Eserleri Üzerine Notlar_ s.181-192)**

Arriving outside the Town of Ankara the Sultan finds his own army exhausted and thirsty. Timur manages to slip past Ottoman scouts leading to the fateful battle on the plains of Ankara. By 1399 Sultan Bayezid 'Thunderbolt' had secured his European and Anatolian holdings. The Kingdom of Hungary was on the retreat after the disaster of the Crusade of Nicopolis. In the east Anatolian Beys were swallowed up one by one and the hated Karamanid City of Konya finally fell into Ottoman hands. However in the far east rose the Ottomans greatest threat yet, that of Timur. Timur Lenk, auch Tamerlan genannt, ist wahrscheinlich der zweiterfolgreichste Mongole der Geschichte. Im Gegensatz zu seinem großen Vorgänger und Vorbild Dschingis Khan ist der Name Timur heute aber zu großen Teilen in Vergessenheit geraten. Dabei ist sein Lebenswerk ein mehr als nur außergewöhnliches. Nach dem rasanten Aufstieg im 14. Jahrhundert regierte Timur Lenk schon bald über eines der größten Reiche, das die Geschichte je gesehen hat. In seinem endlosen Expansionsdrang legte er sich mit so ziemlich allen großen Reichen seiner Zeit an – und gewann diese Auseinandersetzungen für üblich. Der osmanische Sultan Bayezid starb gar in Timurs Gefangenschaft, dessen Söhne gerieten daraufhin in einen Bürgerkrieg gegeneinander. Trotz womöglicher Unterstützung durch das christliche Europa in Form von Spanien und Frankreich entschied sich Timur Lenk aber dagegen, auch gegen die Söhne Bayezids vorzugehen. Auch das Byzantinische Reich ließ er für weitere fünfzig Jahre vor sich hinsiechen, bis die wiedererstarkten Osmanen es einnehmen konnten.
