Geçtiğimiz salı günü Konya Sanayi Odası'nın düzenlediği 2. Konya Ekonomi Forumu gerçekleştirildi. Benim de konuşmacıları arasında bulunduğum forumda sadece Konya ekonomisi değil aynı zamanda küresel gelişmeler ve ülke ekonomisi de kapsamlı bir şekilde ele alındı.

TÜRK MİSAFİRPERVERLİĞİ Sizlere Ord. Prof. Dr. Anna Masala'nın kendi ağzından Türk mutfağını ve Türk misafirperverliğini anlattığı bir anısını aktarmak istiyorum: “Yanlış hatırlamıyorsam tanıdığım bütün Türklerin evinde yemek yedim. Konya'da Selçuklu yemeği, Eskişehir'de Tatar yemeği yedim. Zenginlerin ve fakirlerin evinde kahvaltı ettim, öğle ve akşam yemekleri yedim. Bazen birbirleriyle aynı günde evlerine davet eden dostları kırmamak için üç kez akşam yemeği yediğim bile oldu. Türkiye'de misafirperverlik anlayışı çok farklıdır. Anadolu'da en fakir köylü bile tek tavuğunu misafiri için keser ve ona yedirir. Ben, dünyanın en iyi mutfaklarından biri olan Türk mutfağını ve Türk sofrasını çok severim. Her sofra bir gökkuşağı gibidir: altın renkli börekler, gümüş baklalar, yeşil kırmızı çoban salataları, beyaz peynirler, her çeşit et yemeği, imam bayıldı, pilavlar, fasulye, tarhana ve tatlılar... Bir kere Prof. Ziya Umur, Suha Umur ve eşleriyle birlikte Prof. Sahir Erman'ın misafiri oldum. Büyük bir otelin lokantasındaydık. Yemek çeşitleri gerçekten kırk bir miydi bilmem ama çok çeşitli vardı. O akşam “imam bayıldı” veya “hünkarbeğendi” gibi yemek adlarının anlamını çözdüm. Her birimiz için içinde gül yaprakları olan bir tasla ılık su ve muhteşem sıcak peçeteler geldi. Otel, o akşam gözümde âdeta bir Osmanlı sarayına dönüşüverdi. Türk misafirperverliği sadece yemeğe dayanmaz; sanırım sadece Türkiye'de “diş kirası” âdeti vardır. Yani misafirlere ev sahibi tarafından bir hediye verilir. Eski dönemlerde büyükler misafirlere altın para hediye ederlermiş. Şunu bilmelisiniz ki bir Türk'ün misafiri olursanız ondan mutlaka bir hediye alırsınız. Mesela bana, boncuklar, bilezikler, yemeniler, kıymetli kitaplar, el işçiliği tabaklar, gümüş bir ayna ve daha birçok güzel hediye verildi. Anadolu'da bazı köylerde misafir odalarında, işlemeli divanlar, yastıklar ve renk renk halılar arasında uyuduğum da olmuştur. Halının üzerinde bir tepsi, tepside çay, meyve ve fıstık görüntüsü unutamadığım anlar­dandır. Sabah erken saatte, namaz vaktinde, küçücük bir minareden gelen ezan sesleriyle ev halkı uyanır ve kahvaltı edilirdi. O köy evi de bir saray oluverirdi.

Effective depuis le 1er janvier 2024, la libéralisation des visas était attendue avec impatience par la jeune société du Kosovo. Après de longues années d'attente, les Kosovars peuvent voyager dans l'espace Schengen sans passer des heures à réaliser des démarches longues et coûteuses pour espérer obtenir un visa de quelques jours ou quelques semaines. Au Kosovo, pays plus petit que l'Île-de-France, où plus de la moitié de la population a moins de 30 ans, les jeunes se sentent à l'étroit, et ils se réjouissent de ce rapprochement avec le reste du continent. Des milliers de visiteurs venus du monde entier se rendent chaque année dans la ville conservatrice de Konya, en Anatolie, pour célébrer l'anniversaire de la mort du poète soufi Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, le 17 décembre. Issu du sunnisme, le soufisme propose une doctrine ouverte aux interprétations et à la réappropriation personnelle. Musulmans mystiques, bouddhistes, chrétiens, adeptes du yoga et de la méditation... Les festivités en l'honneur de Rumi attirent des touristes aux profils très variés. De notre envoyée spéciale en Turquie,Habituellement calme, le centre-ville de Konya vibre depuis quelques jours au rythme des célébrations du Şeb-i Arus, littéralement « la nuit de noces ». Le turc, l'arabe, le persan ou encore le russe et le japonais, toutes les langues résonnent dans les rues.Assise dans un café de la place principale, Kenza, 25 ans, arrive de France et découvre sous un jour nouveau la religion de ses ancêtres : « Ils viennent d'Algérie. L'islam a imprégné, même si ce n'était pas une famille très pratiquante, au niveau culturel, c'était présent. Mais après cet éveil spirituel, j'ai fait quinze pas en arrière par rapport à la religion, au dogme, après avoir rencontré Dieu en tant que pur amour ».Le poète soufi du XIIIe siècle repose ici dans un somptueux tombeau situé au centre-ville. Éric Maupaix vient de Normandie, il est catholique et nourrit une grande admiration pour Rumi : « Ce qui m'attire vraiment chez Rumi, c'est vraiment l'extase amoureuse au niveau de l'univers, du cosmos, de Dieu. Et tourner, pour moi, c'est vraiment un moment merveilleux, c'est vraiment être en osmose avec le cosmos ».Le sema, la danse giratoire des derviches tourneurs, constitue le rituel le plus connu du soufisme, mais d'autres pratiques viennent s'y greffer comme le zikir et le mesk, des prières en musique.Un courant de l'islam repris par la culture populaireC'est aussi le cas des sohbet, des cercles de paroles animés par des sages. Haïle, 41 ans, sort d'une discussion avec Celalettin Berberoglu.« Quand on parle d'amour, pas besoin de le décrire, non ? De la même manière, quand on parle "d'amoureux", tout le monde sait de quoi on parle, n'est-ce pas ? Ici se rassemblent ceux qui sont à la recherche de l'amour divin. Au-delà de l'amour qui peut exister entre un homme et une femme, les gens viennent chercher l'amour divin ici. »La dimension universelle des valeurs d'amour et de tolérance rend le soufisme particulièrement ouvert à la réappropriation. La culture populaire s'en est d'ailleurs largement emparée ces dernières années. La mode, par exemple, reprend la robe des derviches et on pratique la danse giratoire du sema dans les mariages et les boîtes de nuit.Les principes du soufisme sont même repris par la littérature sur le développement personnel au point d'avoir fait émerger un nouveau concept, celui du « soufisme pop ». As human activities rapidly transform the planet, the global insect population is declining at an unprecedented rate. In the UK, a recent survey suggested the number of flying insects have fallen by almost 60% in less than 20 years. Some are calling it an impending 'insect apocalypse'. Their disappearance matters because insects are the most diverse group of organisms on the planet and the foundation of every freshwater and land based ecosystem. They provide food for birds, bats and small mammals; they pollinate around 75% of the crops in the world; they replenish soils and keep pest numbers in check. You may not always like insects in your personal space but you certainly need them to survive. Insect population collapses could mean significant crop failures, collapsing food webs, bird extinctions, disease outbreaks and more. We're going to explore why it's happening and what can be done to mitigate it. Shaun Ley is joined by: Dr Erica McAlister - Principal curator of fleas and flies at the Natural History Museum in London and an honorary fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. Dr David Wagner - Professor of ecology and evolutionary behaviour at the University of Connecticut where he specialises in caterpillars, butterflies, moths, insect conservation and global insect decline. Oliver Milman - US environment correspondent for The Guardian newspaper and author of The Insect Crisis. In Platemark s3e29, host Ann Shafer speaks with April Vollmer, an artist working in mokuhanga (Japanese color woodblock printing), who also wrote the indispensable guide to that form: Japanese Woodblock Print Workshop (Berkeley: Watson-Guptill Publications, 2015).   What's mokuhanga, you ask? It's a method developed in Japan that was used to print images that are probably familiar to you, like Hokusai's Great Wave. It allows artists to work with water-based inks (more environmentally friendly) on multiple blocks to build up images, which are printed by hand using a flat paddle called a baren. Each color is carried on a separately carved block and is layered during printing. It means a lot of carving, but it also means one doesn't need a press, chemicals, or a ton of equipment. In other words, it can be done at home in your kitchen.   The range of work made possible in mokuhanga is impressive. Once used for ukiyo-e prints (pictures of the floating world) in the Edo period, now contemporary artists from the world over are experimenting with its possibilities. Including April Vollmer. On Feb. 6, Elçin Ezer's apartment building collapsed in the massive, 7.8-magnitude earthquake that ripped across southern Turkey. She survived underneath the wreckage for four days, hugging her daughter as she died in her arms. Her mother and her son were in the next room, but she never heard their voices. She thinks they both died on impact. The shaking destroyed at least 55,000 buildings in Hatay, the province for which Antakya is the capital. Thousands died — including at least 700 in the collapse of a single luxury apartment block. Survivors emerged into a waking nightmare.  Immediately after the earthquake, Ahmet Sarp used his mechanical lift to rescue survivors from upper-floor apartments in buildings that were still standing, but whose staircases had collapsed. Today, he uses it to help families salvage furniture from their damaged homes. Renting the machine and hiring workers can cost $500 per apartment.    Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World Every day, Ezer walks to the pile of rubble that used to be the home she shared with her two children, who were 8 and 13. She's haunted by the fact that rescue workers didn't arrive at the site for days. Her ex-husband drove from Antalya to dig her and their children out, she said. “People ask me why I came back, and I don't know what to tell them,” Ezer said. “My legs brought me here on their own.” Antakya today is a city of grief. At least 57,658 people have been confirmed dead in Turkey and northern Syria following the earthquakes, with many still missing. Though many residents have left the city to escape the risk of aftershocks, many remain to mourn, offer support and rebuild. “I feel better here,” Mehtap Yılmaz said. “Here, I lost so many friends, relatives — so many close friends. But we're trying to stick together.” A dusty haze hovers above the ruins of buildings as crews tear down wrecked apartments. The Turkish government has promised to rebuild earthquake-damaged cities within the year. But with 1.5 million people across an 11-province disaster region now homeless, that seems impossible.  Perihan Yüksek prepares tea in a makeshift tent that functions as a kitchen.   Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World These days, almost everyone lives in tents or converted shipping containers — some in formal camps, others in public parks, or among the ruins of their homes and neighborhoods. Children can attend one hour of school per day in tent camps. In Antakya's city center, there are creative solutions for small, daily comforts: Fresh baklava sold from a tent. A mobile ATM fashioned out of a van. A phone store set up in a shipping container. “When I see someone who I knew before the earthquake, it's incredibly emotional … it's like we didn't understand the feeling of being sad,” said Onur Aşkar, a barber who offers shaves and haircuts underneath a tarp set up in a street median. Sami Joba chopped onions for kebabs, which he grills on a charcoal stove. He lost his restaurant in the earthquake. But his friend, who drives a school van, was also out of work. They converted the van into a setup for an outdoor kitchen, with the slogan that translates in English to: “If I don't eat, I will die.” Açeyla Açıkbaş, Ozhan Açıkbaş and Sami Joba run a mobile kebab shop in downtown Antakya.   Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World One kebab, wrapped in a flatbread with onions and tomatoes, costs 50 Turkish lira — about $2.50. For families living in tent cities, it's a rare chance to eat hot food that they've chosen for themselves. “It's cheap, and it has a nice taste,” Joba said, without looking up from his work. “And — we don't have anywhere to cook now.” For Selma Koşar, who waited with her 12-year-old son for their order, it was the first time they had had a kebab since the earthquake. The two are staying in a tent city nearby. “It's always soup, beans and rice,” she said. “But it's not for me — it's for my son. We don't have enough money.” After the earthquake, Koşar said, her son couldn't speak or eat for several days. When she saw him get excited about having a kebab, she couldn't say no.  Suleyman, a truck driver, lost his family in the earthquake. He has remained in Antakya to help families salvage furniture from their wrecked homes.   Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World Throughout the daylight hours, debris is cleared and packed onto trucks, which are driven out of town and dumped along the highway. Tall mechanical lifts, which spent the first weeks of the disaster pressed into service to rescue survivors, now line up to the rickety husks of apartment buildings as people salvage furniture from their damaged homes.Climbing up into these apartment blocks is dangerous work, but it pays well.Anas Saghir, a Syrian refugee, said that he sent his wife and children to Konya, a city that sits further away from earthquake fault lines. But he stayed behind to work. Every day, he said, his kids cry on the phone, asking him to come for them. They were traumatized by the frantic escape from their home in the early morning hours; the staircase of the building collapsed as the family rushed downstairs, hitting Saghir in the head. “They're always saying ‘baba, baba,'” he said, fighting back tears.  A worker sleeps during a short break while transporting onions in Hatay.   Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World At night, he sleeps in a tent in the ruins of a baklava shop. He's just grateful they all survived. “Thank God for everything,” he sniffed. Other families have moved to the hills where villages ring the outskirts of old Antakya. Perihan Yüksek used a match to light a propane stove in a makeshift tent that serves as a kitchen. She came to the village after the earthquakes to be with her cousin, Bedia Yüksek, who's mourning the loss of her daughter, Huliya. Bedia Yüksek holds a photograph of her daughter, Huliya, who died in Antakya during the earthquakes on Feb. 6.   Credit: Durrie Bouscaren/The World “Whenever I'm in the tent, it feels like the pain is going to kill me,” Bedia Yüksek said. Her daughter was sleeping in her apartment in Antakya when the earthquake hit. Perihan Yüksek's son, who was also living nearby,  survived, but lost both of his legs.The Yükseks' home is still standing, but appears as if it could collapse at any moment. Bedia Yüksek and her husband set up donated tents in the garden and wired them with electricity. On a recent visit, several mattresses have been prepared for relatives who will visit in the coming days. A photograph of their late daughter sits next to the television, watching over them. “Life continues, because it has to,” Perihan Yüksek said. “Life goes on until God takes it from us.” Bedia Yüksek and Mehmet Yüksek's home remained standing after the earthquakes, but is no longer safe to live in. They eat eggs from their chickens and oranges from their garden. But the Yükseks are determined to stay until their home is rebuilt. It's like going back in time, Perihan Yüksek mused over a glass of tea. As she finished her cup, she flung the extra out onto the dirt floor.  “I guess that's something,” she said. “If you don't have a living room, there's nothing to clean.”

In this program, I focus on wine and wine-house in the poetry of Hafiz of Shiraz. In the journey that we take from Konya to Shiraz, instead of asking whether the wine that Hafiz drank was real or allegorical, I explore the wine-house itself as a counter space to places of worship.

In this episode, we take another poetic journey to Shiraz to spend Yalda with the master poet, Saʿdi. He speaks of the symbolic significance of nights as moments of repose, and of cruelty to others as the true darkness. We return to Konya wishing Iranians' suffering in this Yalda of cruelty to come to an end soon.
