The idea of the breakbeat was born in the Bronx, but its evolution since then has been a transatlantic dialogue, a rhythmic exchange between continents that never really settled. In London, this language found its most elastic form, bending through jungle, drum & bass, and techno, mutating with each new generation of producers. The city remains a living organism, constantly reshaping itself through DJs, club nights, and collectives that resist repetition. Unknown Species, a London-based platform and event series that blends music and environmental awareness in support of endangered species, has carved out a corner for artists to explore that freedom. Its founder, Rado, better known as Naturalisten, is the musical mind behind this week's edition of Delayed with. This mix was recorded almost a year ago at Espacio Perpendicular in Madrid, during the first collaborative event between Unknown Species and the Perpen crew, alongside Delayed friends F-on, Fran Campos, Lynne, DB1, Felix K, Muted, Vrika, and Pillen. It's a space where rhythm meets reflection, and Naturalisten rises fully to the occasion. The first half builds tension through shifting grooves and subtle rhythmic displacements, a controlled energy that feels alive and restless. As the set unfolds, the edges blur. Synths stretch into stranger territories, textures become unmoored, and the intensity softens into something beautifully off-kilter, a reminder that unpredictability can be its own kind of balance. Muss man sich anders organisieren. Das Warten auf den nächsten Besuch, den nächsten Brief, das nächste Telefonat. Kein Zugriff auf Internet und Handy. Das Gefühl zu haben, das Leben zieht draussen an einem vorbei und man sitzt drinnen und bekommt nichts mehr mit. Diese Hilflosigkeit, diese Wut, diese Einsamkeit. Und die Angst vor dem, was nach der Haft kommt. Beginnt die eigentliche Strafe der Gesellschaft erst nach der Entlassung? Bei der Job- oder Wohnungssuche? Autorin Sabina Altermatt hat als Lehrerin für Deutsch in mehreren Schweizer Justizvollzugsanstalten gearbeitet und die Vorlage zu dieser Serie zusammen mit einem Insassen verfasst. Ergänzt wird der Doku-Fiction-Text mit Passagen aus Interviews, welche Sabina Altermatt und Regisseurin Karin Berri mit Insassen führen konnten. Diese Ausschnitte werden als Originaltöne im Hörspiel verwendet. Der Titel «Schwimmen lernen» beruht auf einer Aussage von Andreas Nägeli, dem Direktor der Justizvollzugsanstalt Pöschwies. Auf die Frage, ob es im Gefängnis möglich sei, die Leute auf das Leben danach vorzubereiten, meinte er, das sei wie «schwimmen lernen in einem Becken ohne Wasser». Es bleibt: Die Hoffnung. Hinter den Mauern und ausserhalb der Mauern. Denn schwimmen kann man tatsächlich lernen. Es braucht Übung. Aber irgendwann klappt's. Rakstnieks un dzejnieks Anatols Imermanis un filma "Testaments". Kultūras rondo izvaicājam dokumentālās fikcijas režisoru Jāni Ābeli, galveno operatoru Tomu Šķēli un rakstnieku, filmas scenārija autoru Jāni Joņevu. Cigāri, kafija, plikavas un nozudusi rakstnieka pelnu urna – kolosāls sākuma komplekts, lai rastos poēzijas pilns detektīvs dokumentālā kino žanra labākajās franču jaunā viļņa tradīcijās. Rīgas starptautiskā kinofestivāla ietvaros pirmizrādi 21. oktobrī piedzīvo Jāņa Ābeles filma "Testaments", kuras stāsta vadmotīvs ir Latvijas detektīvžanra pioniera un dzejnieka Anatola Imermaņa pelnu urna, kura mistiski nozuda 1998. gadā pēc autora došanās mūžībā. Bet tas vēl nav viss – rakstnieka kvēlākā vēlēšanās ir bijusi, lai viņa pelnus izkaisa Parīzes "sarkano lukturu rajonā". Runājot par Anatolu Imermani un filmas ieceri, Jānis Joņevs atklāj leģendu, ko viņam savukārt stāstījusi kāda Rakstnieku savienības darbiniece. "Kad viņa ir stājusies amatā, ierādīts viņai kabinets. Viņa sāk krāmēt, iekārtot pa savam. Atrod urnu, uz kuras rakstīts: Anatols Imermanis. Iekšā pīšļi grāb. Tas viņu satrauca, pajautāja vecākām kolēģēm: kāpēc man, atvainojiet, kabinetā miris rakstnieks? Darbinieces teica: "Ak jā, pareizi, tas tak Anatoliņš. Viņam tak bija tā vēlēšanās, lai viņa pelnus izkaisa Parīzē, bet neviens jau tādam komandējumam nav nav saņēmies. Un tā nu Anatols te dzīvo." Viņa vēlējās, lai Anatols no viņas kabineta pazūd, un tālākais ceļš ir mīklains," stāsta Jānis Joņevs. Šo stāstu Jānis Joņevs izstāstījis Jānim Ābelem kā vieglu anekdoti, un stāsts uzrunājis. "Kad Jānis man šo izstāstīja, man šķita, nu gan ir oriģināls stāsts, jo tādu pēcnāves vēlmi nebiju dzirdējis. Kad vēlāk pameklēju vēl kādas trakas pēcnāves vēlmes cilvēki vēlējušies, neko līdzvērtīgu man arī nav sanācis uziet. Tad mēs sākām mazliet šķetināt. Sākumā domāju, varbūt tur varētu sanākt tāda šarmanta, komiska īsfilma par nāvi, bet tad, sākot veikt dažus telefona zvanus gados vecākiem rakstniekiem, kas varētu kaut ko zināt, izrādījās, ka neviens nav Parīzē viņu kaisījis  pie dāmām un arī pati urna ir pazudusi. Un tad jau detektīvžanrs nevis tikai tāpēc, ka Anatols Imermanis ir bijis detektīvrakstnieks, bet tāpēc vienkārši, ka pati dzīve mums sagādā detektīvu," par filmas ideju bilst Jānis Ābele.

20. oktobrī Latvijas Nacionālajā mākslas muzejā notika mākslinieces Vijas Celmiņas pirmās stipendijas pasniegšana. To saņēma māksliniece Ieva Putniņa. Pēc prēmijas iegūšanas Ieva Putniņa Kultūras rondo neslēpa, ka jūtas pārsteidzoši un ir apmulsusi. Stipendijas pieteikumam viņa iesniegusi darbus, pie kuriem strādājusi un strādā. Ieva Putniņa savā stipendijas pieteikumā raksta: “Mani interesē dabas skarbums. Tas iekustina un sāk domāšanu – tas var likt justies gan trauslam, gan piesardzīgi saspringtam. Šāda ainava saasina jutīgumu tieši ar savu nemanāmo un ilgo grimšanu aizmirstībā.” Radošo ieceri Ieva Putniņa raksturo kā pretreakciju pilsētas dzīvei un cilvēku kontrolētām teritorijām, meklējot vietas, kur daba atgūst savu klātbūtni. Vijas Celmiņas fonda stipendija ir 30000 ASV dolāru liela, kā arī tā ir balva – simbolisks durvju ķīlis, kas iemieso stipendijas ideju: tā rosina saņēmēju nodoties radošajam procesam un pašizaugsmei, paverot durvis jaunām iespējām un pieredzēm. Balvas vizuālā veidola autore ir māksliniece Sarmīte Māliņa, to materializējis koktēlnieks Reinis Laugalis. -- Māksliniekiem bija iespēja pieteikties Vijas Celmiņas fonda (VCF) stipendijai, ko izmantoja 85 pretendenti, no kuriem 80 atbilda nolikuma prasībām. Kopumā konkursā piedalījās 60 mākslinieces un 25 mākslinieki, kā arī tika saņemti 5 pieteikumi, kas pārstāvēja divu autoru sadarbības projektus. Izvērtējot pretendentu radošās biogrāfijas, portfolio un motivācijas pieteikumus, VCF stipendijas žūrija piecu mākslas ekspertu sastāvā Vijas Celmiņas fondam nosūtīja Ērika Apaļā, Jāņa Dzirnieka, Indriķa Ģelža, Miķeļa Fišera, Ievas Putniņas, Zanes Putniņas, Luīzes Rukšānes, Līgas Spundes, Rasas un Raita Šmitu, Kristas Vindbergas un Amandas Ziemeles pieteikumus. 2025.–2026. gadā Vijas Celmiņas fonda stipendijas pretendentu pieteikumu izvērtēšanu un nominantu atlasi veica žūrija: LNMM 20. gs. otrās puses – 21. gs. kolekciju un zinātniskās izpētes nodaļas "Arsenāls" vadītāja Dr. art. Elita Ansone, Kim? Laikmetīgās mākslas centra un darba devēju konsultācijas uzņēmuma “Erda" dibinātāja, Latvijas Mākslas akadēmijas padomes locekle Zane Čulkstēna, mākslinieks, galerijas “427” līdzdibinātājs un kurators Kaspars Groševs, māksliniece, galerijas “Low” un Rīgas Zīnu festivāla dibinātāja un izstāžu kuratore, Latvijas Mākslas akadēmijas pasniedzēja Maija Kurševa, māksliniece Inga Meldere.

Alytaus rajone, Muiželėnų kaime, policija sustabdytame automobilyje aptiko apie kilogramą įtariamų narkotikų. Įvykio aplinkybės paaiškėjo bendradarbiaujant su Valstybės sienos apsaugos tarnyba – pirmadienį buvo patikrintas „Škoda Octavia“, kurį vairavo 1998 m. gimęs vyras. Mākslinieki piedāvā lietu kārtošanai paredzētu priekšmetu, ko mēdz dēvēt par organizatoru, aplūkot kā spēli nevis disciplinējošu rīku. Izstādē esam liecinieki robežu izpludināšanai starp mākslu un dzīvi. Mākslinieku kopīgi veidoto izstādi kultūrtelpā „Smilga” atklās 23. septembrī, tā būs aplūkojama līdz 21. oktobrim. Tās iekārtošanas brīdī ar Kati Krolli un Reini Bērziņu tikās Laima Slava. Galerijā „Smilga” esmu brīdī, kad mākslinieki iekārto izstādi, lielākā daļa darbu jau atraduši savu vietu pie galerijas sienām, arī liela formāta glezna. Telpas pašā centrā liels objekts, plauktu konstrukcija, un uz tiem rindojas oriģināli priekšmeti. Tā kā šī ir mākslinieku kopīga izstāde, līdzdarbojušies arī bērni Hanna un Pauls. Ir arī darbi, kas ir katra individuālu rokrakstu atspoguļojoši. Viņi ikdienas notikumus pārvērš zīmējumos, gleznās un instalācijās, kā arī otrādi: gleznas, zīmējumi un objekti tiek pārvērsti ikdienas notikumos. Kates un Reiņa bērni ir radoši un arī viņi ar saviem darbiem pievienojas kopīgajā izstādē. Hannas un Paula darbi koncentrējas ap objektu, un izvietoti uz plauktiem. Jaunākā izstāde „Organizators” māksliniekiem Katei Krollei un Reinim Bērziņam būs trešā kopīgi veidotā izstāde. Iepriekšējā teātra sezonā viņu vārds izskanēja apvienības „Kvadrifrons” izrādes „Ērces” sakarā, kurai mākslinieki veidoja kostīmus, un viņu darbs tika godalgots ar „Spēlmaņu nakts” balvu.

Meno, ktoré pozná každý fanúšik slovenského basketbalu. Rozprávali sme sa o Eurobaskete, rozdiele medzi USA a Európou a výnimočnosti hráčov, ktorí kraľujú NBA. Rado zaspomínal aj na svoje pôsobenie v Galatasaray Istanbul a zápase proti Allenovi Iversonovi, ktorý vtedy hral za Besiktas.

2024. gada sākumā mūžībā aizgāja rakstnieks, producents, komponists un animācijas filmu autors Māris Putniņš (1950. gada 20. jūlijs – 2024. gada 24. janvāris). Taču viņa pieminēšana ir gaišuma pilna. Māra Putniņa radītās dziesmas šovasar tālāk nes “senie” Austras bērni, mūziķes un vokālās pedegoģes Zanes Šmites iedvesmoti tās šovasar mācījās festivāla „Trubadūrs” radošajā nometnē Cesvainē. Bet Māra Putniņa dzīvesbiedre Dace Rožlapa Kino muzeja krājumā pēc brīža izrādīs viņas muzejam dāvinātās lietas, kas spilgti liecina par “Animācijas Brigādes” filmu tapšanu. Raidījumā tomēr neizdodas izstāstīt pilnīgu stāstu par Māri Putniņu. Tik daudz vēl kas precizējams, noskaidrojams, laikabiedriem pārjautājams. Taču Māra Putniņa aiziešana ir parāvusi vaļā vēlmi jautāt, un arī nepieciešamību apzināt, kā Zane Šmite pēc brīža teiks, daudzu mūzu raustīta cilvēka devumu. Lai šī saruna ir tikai sākums nopietnākai brīnišķīgi radoša cilvēka Māra Putniņa mantojuma tālāk vētīšanai un saglabāšanai.

Alen is owner and meadmaker at FoolMoon Transilvania - Romania. Alen is Certified through the Level 2 Mead Judging Program at the European Mead Makers Association. He is also winner of gold and silver medals at the 2025 Mead Madness CUP (MMC). Alen is relatively new to mead, but it hasn't slowed him down at all. He's been making mead since 2020, and has a long family tradition of making wine and rakija. Somewhere in 2020, Alen switched from sourdough to mead because he wanted to feed his sourdough with honey. There was a small experimental batch and it grew into passion. Fool Moon opened in 2023, but didn't go public until 2024, after wending their way through a mess of paperwork in Romania. Musical paths twist and turn throughout life, one never knows where the next connection can come from. Like minded people, loving the same artform or creative form of expression makes for many a ‘friend at first sight'. After meeting Luca a few years ago at Mostra, we've had the opportunity to spend plenty of time dancing and chatting together, enjoying our favorite musical expression. As head of his E2-E8 label, the London based DJ and curator has crafted his own path with prior releases from fellow Delayed friends Avsluta, and hems to name a few. To mark E2-E8's first release of 2025, the responsibility goes to a founder of the Unknown Species Collective event and podcast series, Rado aka Naturalisten and his debut titled Forms. The 6 track release, including a remix by Forest Drive West, blends a few different musical styles. Acid, ambient, deep techno, breaks, all coming forth in a nicely varied release. Against the Tide is a floaty number, with muted, upbeat melodies providing some sense of groove and a nice counter to the darker side of the release. These tones are complimented by a steady stream of shakers and hi-hats that deftly hit in the background but don't overwhelm the mix of panned textures and occasional glittery synth.
