What if the scuba diving industry has been missing something critical — and two people just figured out how to fix it?Dr. Calina Ouliaris and Simon Lugan, cofounders of Journey Underwater, have developed a groundbreaking wellness framework that's reshaping how divers learn, breathe, and reconnect with their minds underwater (and on land). Their approach — the “Dive In” Framework (also an official PADI specialty course) — challenges the dive industry to go beyond physical safety checklists and finally address the mental and psychological well-being of both students and instructors. In this full-length interview with Calina, we explore:Why traditional dive training is leaving a critical gap in diver wellnessHow the “Dive In” framework transforms learning environments and the significance of pre/post-dive briefings. The role of pace, mindfulness, and internalized safety in building a sustainable dive community. Why this movement could literally save scuba diving
In 701 BCE, Assyrian king Sennacherib launched his western campaign against Judah, bringing him into direct conflict with King Hezekiah and the political counsel of the prophet Isaiah. The decisive field battle of that year was not at Jerusalem, but at Eltekeh, where Assyrian troops defeated an Egyptian and Kushite force sent to support the rebellious Philistine city of Ekron. This episode reconstructs the full 701 campaign from Assyrian annals and biblical accounts, beginning with the minor 702 operations in the Zagros mountains against Zamua, Parsua, and Ellipi, then following Sennacherib to the Phoenician coast. We cover the flight of Luli, king of Tyre, to Cyprus, the installation of Itobaal at Sidon, and the submission of eight Levantine rulers from Ashdod, Byblos, Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Arwad. We then turn to Philistia: the internal coup at Ashkelon, the Ekronite revolt that handed King Padi over to Hezekiah, and Sennacherib's restoration of Padi after the victory at Eltekeh. The episode explains why Jerusalem faced only a blockade rather than a full siege, examines Isaiah's advice against an Egyptian alliance, and considers the logistical, political, and possible epidemiological reasons Sennacherib withdrew with massive tribute but without taking the city.Music from the show: oldeststories.net/music (or search "Oldest Stories Music")Support the show:Books: https://a.co/d/7Wn4jhSDonate: oldeststories.netPatreon / YouTube members get bonus episodes: patreon.com/JamesBleckleyNo-AI readings of ancient texts: youtube.com/@osnightreading
Pir Sultan Abdal'ın meşhur “Açılın kapılar Şah'a gidelim” türküsü o günleri anlatır. Bir kısım Türkmenler, kendilerini İstanbul'daki Padişah'tan ziyade Tebriz'deki Şah'a yakın görüyorlar, bir yandan Şah'a ulaşmaya çalışıyor, bir yandan da Şah'ın ajanları eliyle Osmanlı'yı arkadan vuruyorlardı.
Barsisa gece gündüz Allâh'a ibadet eden bir zahittir. (Mevlana, Mecalis-i Seb'a)

Welcome to another episode of Fratello On Air. This week, we hop into our time machine and travel back 10 years to 2016. As we'll see, in some ways, this wasn't so long ago. Yet, in others, it was a different lifetime. Join us as we look back on fonder days.HandgelenkskontrolleIt's been a while since we've recorded, and much of this is down to Mike's travels in Germany. Sadly, on one of the trips, he had a very Balazs-like travel experience involving planes and trains. If he did have a time machine, he'd probably go back and choose to sleep through his alarm that day. We mention an upcoming Sotheby's auction featuring a pair of Michael Jordan's shoes from the Dream Team Barcelona Olympics. Balazs discusses the return of The Night Manager, a show that, coincidentally, has returned after its first season in 2016! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing an upcoming release, the Nivada Grenchen F77 MKII. Mike was wearing his Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665 "Great White" in Germany and still has it on his wrist.Taking our time machine back to 2016Yes, it's hard to believe that 2016 was 10 years ago! Time flies! In this episode, we're reminiscing about a year that brought some interesting releases and behavior. Specifically, vintage watches were within a boom period. In particular, a Patek Philippe 1518 sold at Phillips for over CHF 11 million! It was hard for us to believe that watches were achieving these sums a decade ago. Many new watches from back then still feel relatively modern, but there's no doubt that larger diameters and chunkier cases were in vogue. The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Blue and Ceramic is a good example of this, but to be fair, the same basic platform is still in the catalog today. Speaking of big and robust watches, Robert-Jan reviewed the Sinn U212, which still looks fresh. If we truly want to feel old, Tudor was already in its second year of offering non-ETA movements. Omega launched a rare box-office stinker with the blue and white CK2998, a piece that has aged quite well. Our time machine continues its journey and finds the wild Hublot Big Bang Berluti, which was available in gold or steel and showed off a leather dial. Seiko, announced a partnership with PADI. This caused a stir, and several of us on the team grabbed one of the new models. TAG Heuer announced a Monza PVD, a retro chronograph with a thick case. However, we save the most significant announcement for last. Rolex, after producing steel Daytona 116500LN models with a steel bezel for over 25 years, introduced pieces with ceramic bezels. Understandably, the excitement was palpable and hit Basel like a hurricane. We remark that these watches have been unavailable since that time!We hope you enjoy today's episode. Share your watch memories from 2016 in the comments below, and let us know if we forgot any momentous pieces.

Most divers (including me) have been calling scuba gear “Life Support” equipment since the beginning. However, when considering redundancies, dive buddies, and proper SESA (Simulated Emergency Swimming Ascents), is our life truly dependent on this gear. And if so, is it truly life support, whereas if the gear fails we die? After a deep dive into this term we've all been using since the dawn of scuba diving, I believe Frank Degnan has a great point.Frank has been a scuba instructor for over 40 years, former Dive Safety Officer at Universities, is active with three agencies (PADI, NAUI, and one other). And even holds the title of Course Director Trainer with NAUI. He has won awards, teaches adaptive curriculum, and remains active in his local diving community. This is a well-articulated approach to recreational scuba diving and labeling gear “Life Support”. It's also a bit of a wake up call for how we train scuba divers and students how to properly execute Emergency Swimming Ascents, as well as knowing when it's time for a redundancy system (such as a pony bottle, etc.)I ran into Frank by happenstance while visiting the NEX Underwater Products warehouse in Monterey Bay, CA. This was neither scripted or planned, but we were already shooting content with the camera and mics when he walked in. His articulation of this topic stopped me in my tracks, and he was kind enough to let me record our conversation in virtually real time. –Kenny Dyal is the host of The Scuba Diving Podcast:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kenny_dyalInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sweetwater_scubaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/realkennydyalLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/kennydyalX: https://twitter.com/RealKennyDyalwww.sweetwaterscuba.com

A veteran investigator with MUFON, Debbie has conducted over 1,200 case investigations, served as Missouri’s State Director, sits on the MUFON Board of Directors, and co founded their groundbreaking Dive Team. She is also a PADI instructor, bringing an unparalleled underwater perspective to this field. Her acclaimed book, The Alien Colonization of Earth’s Waterways, compiles evidence from ancient records, medieval texts, modern military encounters, and eyewitness reports from around the world. Her second book, co authored with Margie Kay, chronicles the legendary Southeast Missouri UFO Flap of 1973, one of the most astonishing waves of UFO activity in United States history. From ancient sightings recorded in the 11th century, to modern Navy videos capturing craft slipping effortlessly between sea and sky, to hotspots like Puerto Rico and California’s Catalina Island, the evidence points to something extraordinary happening beneath our oceans. Craft that create no splash, technologies that interfere with electronics, patterns of activity dating back centuries, the questions only grow. Are we witnessing visitors from distant worlds? Or is this something much older, beings who have long shared this planet with us, unseen beneath the waves? And what might their presence reveal about the true history of our world? Tonight, we bring these questions to one of the top minds in the field. Debbie Ziegelmeyer is coming up next.

After the wildly popular interview with the inventor of Avelo, I had to go and actually take this thing in the water for some real diving. My wife Katie and I tested the new Avelo Dive System and could not believe it. From a lighter walk down to the water (and less grunting during suit-up), to a natural, cleaner, and more streamlined dive, it was definitely an upgrade in the overall diving experience. It did require a readjustment in the whole experience, but once we did it was one step backward, ten steps forward.I was able to actually go and dive the Avelo system myself and take the Specialty course (the RAD class as it's been dubbed), and experienced the equipment first hand. It became apparent that this was not only a more enjoyable dive experience, but the instructor in me could not help but notice the safety improvements across the board. As any seasoned instructor knows, a student that bolts or suddenly drops down uncontrolled is a constant task, and in this system it's virtually eliminated.Instructors and Divemasters also know that the bulk of the injuries we deal with are smashed fingers and toes from weights and tanks, bad knees and backs, and just the lugging gear to and fro cause a lot of trouble. Not to mention the hassle of sizing and weighting people in BCs they've never used -also fixed. There were more little perks the more we dug in.While I am unabashedly a big fan of this, and I believe it is substantially superior to standard recreational scuba gear, here are the drawbacks I found:1) Having to take an additional Specialty Course beyond the Open Water Scuba Certification. While the class is a simple, one-day course and we actually thought it was fun and easy, it does create a barrier. In an already-small industry, this puts Avelo in a position that makes it impossible to grow beyond existing scuba certifications. People that would otherwise thrive in diving using Avelo, might never get beyond (or even through) the Open Water course. I would like to see this have the option to do it in reverse (get certified with Avelo, then do standard OW as the specialty). Not for everyone, but I know specific cases where this would help people like crazy.2) Cost: It does cost more than a high-end recreational scuba rig, but the price is coming down quickly, while regular scuba keeps creeping up.*I should mention the rental cost is only slightly more, and in some places the same. There is a hidden benefit here and that is renting is going to be the same gear everywhere you go (with the Jetpack and Hydrotank) so you don't have to relearn new gear or worry about fit. You can just bring your own regulators, mask, fins, wetsuit, etc (or whatever you prefer), but this ditches the suitcase stuffing BC, which is kinda nice IMHO.3) Not everywhere has it yet. They have a facility lookup on their site, and to be fair that list is growing fast. It is already gaining a foothold in the big spots like Great Barrier Reef, Hawaii, Florida, and other destinations. While there will always be a place for traditional scuba (at least for now), the Avelo System is already changing the future of scuba diving, cutting the hassle and improving the overall sport for new divers and pros. I'm always going to promote new technology, new ideas, methods, or anything that takes this industry forward. That is what we do here on this channel.I hope you love this video discussing my first-hand experience diving the new system. Also, big thanks to the people from NAUI, PADI, Shearwater and Scuba Show for the time and contribution in putting me through the course and sitting down with me!https://diveavelo.com/—Kenny Dyal is the host of The Scuba Diving Podcast:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@kenny_dyalInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sweetwater_scubaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/realkennydyalLinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/kennydyalX: https://twitter.com/RealKennyDyalwww.sweetwaterscuba.com
June was a big month for our portfolio! We collected $879 in RECORD dividend income, but I also made some tough decisions, including selling Nexstar Media (NXST) shares after years of going nowhere. Sometimes, even good companies with great dividends just aren't working in your portfolio. I replaced it with Zoetis (ZTS) and kept building our core positions. In this update, I'll show you every dividend payment, explain my buy/sell decisions, and break down why we had a -$485 PADI month (it's actually good portfolio management, not poor performance). Whether you're learning about dividend investing or want to see real portfolio moves in action, this gives a full breakdown of how I manage our money with my 85% funds, 15% stocks strategy.Motley Fool 92% post: https://www.fool.com/investing/2025/03/05/want-to-outperform-nearly-92-of-professional-fund/Email Russ:

In this episode of The Resilient Show, Chad Robichaux is joined by clinical health psychologist and freediving instructor, Dr. Lindsay Bira.Filmed on North Bimini Island, their conversation unpacks how chronic stress and untreated PTSD inflame the body and accelerate heart disease, and why evidence-based exposure therapy, paired with slow-breath drills and the mammalian dive reflex, can reverse the damage. Chad and Dr. Bira plan dynamic- and static-apnea challenges that turn freediving into a “bench-press for the frontal lobe,” teach viewers how interoceptive breath-holds stop panic in its tracks, and explore faith, purpose, and community as force-multipliers for long-term healing and elite performance underwater and on land.Dr. Lindsay Bira, PhD is a Harvard-trained clinical health psychologist, trauma researcher, and PADI freediving instructor. Published in Nature and featured by NPR, Science, and Forbes, she previously served active-duty military and veterans for the U.S. Department of Defense.
