In common with many places in the world, the UK has been experiencing high temperatures over the last couple of years, and not a great deal of rain, reminding us of the need to adapt to the consequences of climate change. Our episode focuses on adaptation, and some of the reasons why policy and practice are lagging behind where we need them to be.The Adapt Lock-in project has been working to understand this gap better, looking at experience in three countries – the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. Our guests today have been working on this project over the last 3 years. Tim Rayner is a Research Fellow in the School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia. Part of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, since 2006 he has participated in a range of European Union and national research council-funded projects covering climate change governance and policy, particularly from EU and UK perspectives.Meghan Alexander is an Assistant Professor in Human Geography of climate change at the University of Nottingham. In particular, her work focuses on climate adaptation and aspects of governance, policy and risk management, and the corresponding implications for societal resilience, well-being and social justice. The Adapt Lock-in project was supported by: the UK Economic and Social Research Council, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek. It was funded under Open Research Area (Round 5) Grant Reference ES/S015264/1. With many businesses unable to operate as usual, tenants have found themselves struggling with rent debts that built up during the pandemic. Similarly, many landlords who rely on the rent for their income have seen their property values plummet or have struggled with cash flow. The newly proposed Commercial Rents Bill will ringfence the debt that has been accrued as a result of COVID-19 and create an entirely new process for assessing what rent should be paid. Tim Rayner is joined by James Walters and Lily Pidge to discuss how the new bill works.

Scott Lee (vocals in Worship band and long-time member of LJCC) asks those to stand and greet people around them during the greeting, soon followed by the a video announcement. As people take their seats, Ryan Silvia gives the morning announcements over video. Laura then comes back up and gives the Prayers of the People before the sermon. Pastor Steve Murray continues the sermon series, "Wisdom in Bite-Size Pieces" with a sermon on "Wisdom in spiritual growth." Speakers Dr Tim Rayner and Diana Renner Type Live Conversation About this conversation As leaders, we are rewarded for our knowledge and expertise. However, our knowledge may also limit our perspective. In new, unfamiliar and uncertain situations, what we know can restrict our ability to think differently and see problems in a fresh light. The more we harness received knowledge, the less we learn about the situation, and the narrower our point of view becomes. In these volatile and uncertain times, it is vital that leaders learn to see problems in the broadest possible light. Leaders need to cultivate a new relationship to uncertainty – one that is attentive, authentic, and generative; that involves letting go of knowing and control; and contributes to their ability to see the broader system. Instead of rushing to close down the experience of uncertainty, leaders must learn to sustain the experience and turn uncertainty into an experience of raw possibility. The art of focus in uncertainty is about zooming in and zooming out. More About The Speakers Dr Tim Rayner Dr Tim Rayner is the Director of Education and Culture at The Merrier. He is an internationally-recognised philosopher and action educator with over 10 years experience working in social entrepreneurship and leadership development. Tim’s recent book, Hacker Culture and the New Rules of Innovation, explores the impact of software hacking and startup culture on 21st century business innovation. He teaches ‘Leadership, Teams and Scalability’ in the MBA (Entrepreneurship) Program at UTS Business School. Diana Renner Diana Renner is an organisational consultant, teacher and award-winning author. As the director and co-founder of the Uncharted Leadership Institute and the creator of Not Knowing and Not Doing Labs, Diana helps individuals and organisations develop new skills to navigate uncertainty and make progress on complex challenges. Diana is the co-author of Not Knowing: the art of turning uncertainty into possibility, awarded 2015 Management Book of the Year in the U.K. and translated in 10 languages, and Not Doing: the art of effortless action, published in 2018. Conversation Notes - Uncertainty has a lot to do with the culture surrounding expertise and leadership within our society. - As humans, we’re naturally wired to want to know and experience everything. - Emotions are not simply our responses to the world, emotions are the response to the way our body cognitively responds to the world. - Our brain loves taking shortcuts, but sometimes it prevents us from looking at things with fresh eyes. So when we stop looking, we miss out. - Uncertainty is a doorway to discovery, so long as we embrace it. “Mystery is an enticement and an invitation to learning” – Dr Tim Rayner Tim's Linkedin: Tim Rayner Tim's Twitter: @timrayner01 Diana's Linkedin: Diana Renner Diana's Twitter: @notknowinglab Join Us Did you enjoy the conversation? Bristol and bass music have been happy bedfellows for a long, long time, but in recent years a new wave of producers, promoters and DJs have been properly shaking up the city's clubs, pubs, bars and warehouses, throwing traditional dub, reggae and dancehall flavours into the hotpot alongside dubstep, grime, ragga, breakcore and jungle — crews such as P.R.A.N.K., Dissident, Heatwave and Hench, and events such as Subloaded, Dubloaded, Toxic Dancehall and Ruffnek Diskotek, to name a few. Dub Boy, aka Tim Rayner, is one of the driving forces behind Ruffnek Diskotek — a regular fixture about town that sticks doggedly to its mantra of supplying 'riddim and bass to wind up yuh waist', roping in many of the scene's biggest names and all the best local acts to ensure the job gets done properly. Tim's quite a selector, having played alongside luminaries ranging from David Rodigan and Digital Mystikz to Klute and Congo Natty. He recently sent over this brand new 38-track reggae and dancehall mix to Spannered, which we're sure you'll agree is an absolute stonker. ^ The next Ruffnek Discotek takes place at The Croft, Bristol on Friday 2 November, with guests including Benga (Big Apple), Rossi B and Toddla T.   Tracklisting:  Collie Buddz — Blind To You (Black Chiney) Anthony Cruz — Lose Dem Head (Juke Boxx) Tanya Stephens — Let It Go Girl (Juke Boxx) Lady Saw — Good Men(Juke Boxx) Fantan Mojah — Jah Time (Juke Boxx) Chuck Fender — Gash Dem (Juke Boxx) Perfect — One Life (Irie Ites) Sizzla – Show More Love (Irie Ites) Lutan Fyah — A Lie (Irie Ities) Fantan Mojah — So Many Problems In The World (Irie Ites) Turbulence & Spectacular — High Grade (Irie Ites) YT— No Sandweed (Sativa) Daville — Blaze The Chalice (Maximum Sound) Burro Banton — Man Guinep (Maximum Sound) Ward 21 —– Ain’t No Fun (Maximum Sound) Shaggy, Red Fox & Screechie Dan — Girls Like (Massive B) Collie Buddz — What Ive Been Searching For (Massive B) Ill Inspector — Come Fight We (Massive B) Chezidek — Me Nah Run (Massive B) Movado — Dying (Daseca) Junior Reid — Stop Dip The Youths Them (JR Productions) Singer Blue — If I Know Jah Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry — Blackboard Jungle Dub (Clocktower) Alborosie — Holy Mount Zion (Maximum Sound) Chezidek — ?
