The Bengals keep a big pass catcher in town, and it's a big one! Dave Lapham dives deep into "In The Trenches" with veteran NFL tight end Mike Gesicki to discuss his decision to remain with the Cincinnati Bengals and what he hopes to keep bringing to the offense. This exclusive interview, brought to you by First Star Logistics, explores Gesicki's journey from a multi-sport standout in high school to his professional career with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and Cincinnati Bengals. Mike Gesicki is coming off of a one-year "prove it" deal with the Bengals, where he will continue to benefit from the trust, creativity, and football intelligence of Joe Burrow, a quarterback known for elevating the play of those around him. Gesicki knows that the connection with a QB as intelligent and creative as Burrow is a rare opportunity. The pair sees the game through the same lens, understands coverages, and makes adjustments on the fly, and that connection is primed to take his game to another level. Gesicki has signed a 3-year, $25.5 million deal with the Bengals. What does this "generational wealth" mean to him, and how did his multi-sport background shape him as an athlete? Dave and Mike dive into Mike's history as a high school superstar. At Southern Regional High School in New Jersey, Gesicki didn't just play multiple sports - he DOMINATED them, setting school records for basketball points, football receiving yards, and volleyball blocks. This multi-faceted athleticism gave him multiple opportunities to play in college: Basketball offers at Patriot League schools such as Colgate and Bucknell Recruited to play Volleyball at Penn State Football scholarship offers to big-time programs, and finally deciding to chase that dream How has his athletic background played a role in his NFL success? He has always been an athlete, but it wasn't until his career at Penn State with the Nittany Lions that his talents as a Tight End began to blossom. This was followed by his time with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and finally, landing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Gesicki credits much of his journey to working hard and staying consistent. That work ethic has carried him to where he is today! Gesicki possesses a rare blend of size, speed, and athleticism for a tight end. At 6'6" and 245 pounds, he boasts an incredible 41.5-inch vertical jump. What does it mean to have a vertical jump that impressive? He also ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and features an arm length of over 34 inches with a 10.25-inch hand. He's a physical marvel who can run routes, make contested catches, and even contribute as a blocker. He continues working with Tight Ends coach James Casey, a tremendous coach with years of experience. Casey had a fantastic career at Rice University and brings vast knowledge to help Gesicki. But what is the tight end room like even beyond the game? Gesicki loves the group, with Drew Sample, Tanner Hudson, Cam Grandy, and Tanner McLauchlin all contributing to the team's overall success. Versatility is the calling card for the Bengals Tight End room. Does Mike see himself as an offensive weapon that can be used in multiple ways? Will this help them to attack those slow starts they have endured over the last several years? The Bengals are trying to change things up to keep teams on their toes! Gesicki discusses the importance of the "contested catch" and how he thrives in those situations. When does he feel as though it was a strength of his? Does he feel as though it has gotten better and better as he got further into his career? Ultimately, Gesicki is thrilled to be a part of the Cincinnati Bengals organization. He values the team's culture, the coaching staff's vision, and the chance to play alongside Joe Burrow. He recognizes the potential for success in Cincinnati and is determined to contribute to the team's goals. Watch Off the Bench Presented by UDF with Chatterbox Sports Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. LIVE on the Chatterbox Sports YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE to the channel to ensure you never miss a thing. As of March 12, 2025, the Cincinnati Bengals are entering the free agency period with a focus on bolstering their roster following a 2024 season that left them eager to improve both offensively and defensively. With the new NFL league year officially starting today at 4 p.m. ET, the Bengals have already made strategic moves in prior years and are poised to target key free agents to address lingering needs. The team currently has approximately $46 million in salary cap space, providing flexibility to pursue impactful additions while managing extensions for stars like Ja'Marr Chase and decisions regarding Tee Higgins, who has been franchise-tagged for the second consecutive year at $26.2 million. Looking back at last year's free agency as a reference point, the Bengals added players like safety Geno Stone from Baltimore, running back Zack Moss from Indianapolis, tight end Mike Gesicki from New England, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins from Houston, and safety Vonn Bell from Carolina. They also retained key depth pieces such as tight end Drew Sample, offensive lineman Cody Ford, and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither. These moves showcased a balanced approach, enhancing the offense around Joe Burrow while reinforcing a defense under new coordinator Al Golden. For 2025, the Bengals appear to be continuing this strategy, with an emphasis on fortifying the defensive line and secondary, areas that struggled in 2024. Posts on X and web sources suggest the Bengals have interest in several free agents this offseason. On the offensive line, names like Will Hernandez, Pat Mekari, Teven Jenkins, and Mekhi Becton have surfaced as potential targets to protect Burrow and improve the run game. Defensively, edge rushers such as Azeez Ojulari, Dre'Mont Jones, and Levi Onwuzurike are on the radar to complement or replace Trey Hendrickson, who has requested a trade. Veteran Calais Campbell could provide leadership and depth. With 23 pending free agents, including stars like Higgins, B.J. Hill, and Mike Hilton, the Bengals must balance re-signings with external additions. Their draft position (17th overall) and six picks offer further flexibility, but free agency will be critical in setting the tone for 2025. Expect Cincinnati to target versatile, high-impact players to elevate their contention window.

It hurts a lot to say that (outside of an obviously horrible roster in 2020) this is the first meaningless, Joe Burrow game and his NFL career. As the playoffs are out of reach… Where do they go from here? Is that really depends on how you want to fan. But, ultimately, it's about how you get resourceful as it's clear that this team has lacked the resources to be a great one.No matter what the record is, it will be fucking awesome to watch Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Trey Hendrickson, other guys like Chase Brown, Andrei Iosivas, Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample are more.

Still looking for their first win after their one-point loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Brown and Lapham discuss the Bengals' 0-2 start, another classic battle between the Bengals and Chiefs, and the growth of the Bengals' offensive attack. Brown also praises teammates and tight ends Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample, and rookie Erick All Jr.. Please participate in the First Star Logistics giant giveaway each week the Bengals play this season. Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher jumped back In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, to discuss the newest additions to the Bengals' offensive attack and the return of other key members. Running back Zack Moss, tight end Mike Gesicki, and offensive tackle Trent Brown have been signed, joining returning Bengals Cody Ford, Trenton Irwin, Tanner Hudson, Jake Browning, Trayveon Williams, and Drew Sample. What did Coach Pitcher have to say about each of these players? Join Dave Lapham In The Trenches to discover why Coach Pitcher knows this is a fun time of the NFL year.
Former Cincinnati Bengal and sports commenter Solomon Wilcots joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss his time at the NFL combine and who impressed him the most when it comes to who the Bengals should target with their first-round pick. Lap and Solomon discuss what a lot of Bengal fans are debating right now, should the Bengals take or trade up for TE prospect Brock Bowers or take their future right tackle with their first-round selection? It's a win-win for the Bengals at pick #18 because anyway they decide to go they will be getting an immediate impact player. With the 2024 tackle class being one of the best in recent memory one or maybe two of those tackles will be there and would immediately start at right tackle. On the other hand, the Bengals haven't had a solid long-term tight end since they drafted Tyler Eifert in 2013. Brock Bowers is viewed by many to be a generational-type prospect and the idea of him, Jamaar Chase, Tee Higgins, and Joe Burrow all together is very exciting to think about. The Bengals did sign free agent Mike Gesicki, to a one-year deal but the Bengals need to address the position in the draft as they haven't drafted a tight end since Drew Sample in 2019. Let us know in the comments below who you would draft in the first round! Brock Bowers or right tackle? We want to thank Solomon Wilcots for being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. Jedd Fisch and the UW Football team will be hosting a coaching clinic in early April which will be headlined by some of the biggest names in the NFL, including Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald, along with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, just another potential avenue for Fisch's NFL connections that may help on the recruiting trail. Locked On Huskies hosts Roman Tomashoff and Lars Hanson discuss the impact the coaching clinic and Pac-12 honors could have on the program going forward, as well as covering NFL free agency where Will Dissly found a new home while Greg Gaines and Drew Sample earned contract extensions with their current teams.Locked On Huskies is part of the Locked On Podcast Network.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Paul and Dave run through a wild first day of free agency with a closer look at Tee Higgins' trade request, the fit and ramifications with Geno Stone at safety, Drew Sample, Akeem Davis-Gaither, Trayveon Williams and even landing a third-round compensatory pick thanks to the NFL's computing error.
Off the Bench for TWO weeks will be hosted by Reid and Casey. Lots of News regarding the Cincinnati Bengals yesterday! The day started with Tee Higgins requesting a trade right before the day began. We covered this on Monday but will touch more on it today with possible scenarios. The Bengals would then resign some key components to the team like Drew Sample, ADG, and Trayveon Williams. Bengals then signed an exterior free agent Geno Stone Safety from Baltimore Ravens. Played great last year with 7 INTs one coming from Joe Burrow. Later on in the evening, we learned that the Bengals were given a 3RD ROUND COMP PICK! Big for their draft and potential trades in the future. Finally late last night we learned that the Bengals had finally parted ways with Joe Mixon and signed Zach Moss a younger more explosive running back for the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Tennessee Titans have a ton of cap space heading into free agency, but it looks like the top options on the market at some of the most-needed positions could be unavailable. That means we need to reset our expectations for what the Titans can do and how much they should spend. Next, adding a backup tight end will be critical and names like Adam Trautman and Drew Sample make sense even if they aren't exciting. Finally, the rumors will be coming fast and furious this weekend, but one thing to keep in mind is that most of what you hear is not what reality is. Cincinnati Bengals tight ends coach James Casey joins us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham to discuss the awesome performance from his group and the Bengals' impressive Week 9 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The tight end position had its best game of the season in their SNF matchup against the Bills totaling 101 yards between the top three tight ends and scoring two touchdowns. Irv Smith got the party started in the Jungle scoring the opening touchdown on a beautiful corner route in the back of the endzone. Drew Sample made the best play of his young career when he took a short check-down to the house for a 22-yard touchdown to make the Bengals lead 14 right before halftime. During the week leading up to the game the NFL trade deadline had come and gone and many fans were upset that the Bengals didn't make any moves to put this team over the edge. Many fans wanted an upgrade at the tight-end position due to the lack of product through seven games, but after the Bills game, it looks like it was a good decision to keep this room intact. If they continue to improve and continue to gain trust with Joe Burrow this room can go from a weakness to a strength. We want to thank Coach Casey for always being a fantastic guest and for joining us today on In the Trenches with Dave Lapham brought to you by First Star Logistics. We also look forward to growing our new central channel, First Star Media Group, and having you fans follow us along the ride. Dave Lapham joined Dave Berk following another big win by the Cincinnati Bengals, who are now 5-3 on the season following their 24-18 victory over the Buffalo Bills in front of 66,965 highly energized fans dressed in orange and black. Lapham talks about the rise of the Bengals' tight ends after many fans screamed for the Bengals' front office to make a move before the trade deadline. Tanner Hudson, who was moved to the active roster instead of making a trade, pulled in four Joe Burrow passes for 45 yards. At the same time, Drew Sample showed he can do more than a blocker at the line of scrimmage with three receptions for 30 yards, including a touchdown, and first-year tight end Irv Smith Jr. enjoyed his best game as a member of the Bengals with three receptions for 26 yards and a score. While Joe Mixon may not have had the kind of day many hoped for running the ball, he did have a touchdown on 14 carries for 37 yards while also adding five receptions for 31 yards/ The offensive line flexed their muscles with double teams between center Ted Karras and guards Alex Cappa and Cordell Volson, while left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. showed off his athletic ability by pulling and opening holes. But while it was easy to talk about Burrow and the offense, the play of Lou Anarumo's defense came up big again, with Cam Taylor-Britt adding another interception and linebacker Germaine Pratt teamed with safety Nick Scott to punch the ball out of the hands of Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid to end a drive early in the fourth quarter. Lap also discusses where he feels the Bengals are at after their tough start but huge recovery with the Houston Texans coming up Sunday afternoon in Paycor Stadium before a short turnaround to play AFC North rival the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, then followed the following weekend with another rival the Pittsburgh Steelers. Remember to participate each week the Bengals play in the "GIANT" First Star Logistics giveaway. The Bengals' offense still has some unanswered question entering 2023. Joe Mixon is the presumptive running back for the Bengals but how will the offense look behind Mixon? Rookie Chase Brown will compete for the backup role behind Mixon but he has to fill Samaje Perine's big shoes. Irv Smith Jr. appears to be primed to be the lead tight end following Hayden Hurst's departure. He brings health concerns after suffering multiple injuries during his previous stint with the Vikings. Are the Bengals going to rely on him, Drew Sample and Devin Asiasi? Or will the Bengals look to add one more body in tight end room? The Strictly Stripes podcast crew discusses what people might be getting wrong about Cincinnati's offense. Is Joe Burrow really primed for an MVP season in 2023? Projecting Burrow's season, the crew looks at what's working with and against Burrow this offseason. This podcast features Mohammad Ahmad, Andrew Gillis and Michael Niziolek. Great having Cincinnati Bengals tight end coach James Casey back to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics. Since joining the Bengals, Casey has seen a few changes in his tight end room. However, Casey knows there could be changes this offseason as Hayden Hurst and Drew Sample are unrestricted Free Agents, and Mitchell Wilcox, while a restricted Free Agent, has not been tendered a contract. While Casey knows the Bengals still might look to bring a combination of the trio back into the fold, the 2023 NFL is proving to be one of the deepest tight end drafts in recent memory after several players posted impressive results at the recent NFL Combine. Lapham and Casey discuss ten top names in this draft class, including the following players. Luke Musgrave - Oregon State Dalton Kincaid - Utah Michael Mayer - Notre Dame Darnell Washington - Georgia Luke Schoonmaker - Michigan Tucker Kraft - South Dakota State Brenton Strange - Penn State Sam LaPorta - Iowa Will Mallory - Miami (Fla) Josh Whyle - Cincinnati

For Jimmy Burrow, watching his son play at the game's highest level is a treat. The former college football defensive coordinator understands the game differently than most parents of pro football players but knows when a team has something special. The 2022 Cincinnati Bengals, with his son, Joe Burrow, at quarterback, is one such team as they've taken a poor start of the season and turned it into the hottest team in the NFL with three regular-season games remaining. The coach in him also knows that while the Bengals offense gets a lot of the praise and credit for the team's success, defense is a significant component to winning championships, and with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo at the helm, this Bengals squad is resilient in all phases of the game. We welcome back to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, Jimmy Burrow, as he and Lap breakdown the Bengals' field success despite critical injuries to D.J. Reader, Trey Hendrickson, Ja'Marr Chase, Mike Hilton, Josh Tupou, Hayden Hurst and season-ending injuries to Chidobe Awuzie, Clark Harris, and Drew Sample. Watch until the end as Coach Burrow and Lap talk about the win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Saturday's match-up against Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots as the Bengals go for their seventh consecutive win. Also, learn more about the Joe Burrow Foundation (https://joeburrow.org/) led by Joe and his parents.

The offensive line struggled with Joseph Ossai and Trey Hendrickson, among others, and Brandon Allen was not at his best as the Bengals' defense had a big day, while Joe Burrow was in attendance and looking improved while he watched his team practice.
