Cris is joined by Washington Football Team's breakout third year wide receiver, Terry McLaurin. Cris and Terry begin with Terry's early football days. As a kid, Terry started as a running back. He discusses the importance of that training and what it did for his work ethic as he became a receiver. Cris and Terry talk about what he took from his wide receiver coaches and Urban Meyer at THE Ohio State. They also discuss what Terry thinks Urban brings to an NFL organization. They switch gears to the Washington Football team and what Terry expects for the season, how Ryan Fitzpatrick has changed the offense, and what Terry expects for himself as he attempts to really transcend and make that THIRD YEAR LEAP into the upper echelon of wide receivers in the NFL. Finishing out the episode, Cris is curious about Terry's wide receiver mentor, Doug Baldwin, and what Terry has done to stay healthy for this upcoming season. ⏰ CHAPTERS ⏰ (00:00) INTRO: Terry McLaurin (01:40) Growing Up Playing Running Back (04:50) The Ohio State Days (07:01) Urban Meyer (08:45) WFT Season Expectations (10:15) The Ryan Fitzpatrick Effect (11:30) Terry's Year 3 Expectations (13:27) Always Underrated (15:33) Terry's Role Models (18:15) How To Stay Healthy This Year (20:11) The New WFT (21:20) OUTRO

Paul Shoemaker believes America is approaching a looming inflection point. The author and social impact leader says that the massive upheavals over the last year is emblematic of how the social, economic, and health challenges facing us in the 2020s are radically different from those we faced even one generation ago. But far from feeling downtrodden by this challenge, Shoemaker argued that this can be an opportunity for undoing and expelling old ways of thinking and working and being. In his book Taking Charge of Change: How Rebuilders Solve Hard Problems, he introduced us to the leaders and change agents he dubs “Rebuilders,” and the five vital traits they use to solve big problems. He sat down with one of those Rebuilders, retired Seahawk wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who Shoemaker profiled and celebrated for exemplifying the trait of “24-7 authenticity.” Together, they discussed Baldwin's background, and how Baldwin thinks about his own leadership. He discussed his leadership on the field, elucidating how authenticity is especially relevant and important in a team setting, as well as his leadership now off the field, as he gears up to build the Family First Community Center in Renton. They considered the leadership of athletes speaking out on subjects outside of sports, and the power and responsibility in doing so. Join them for this optimistic conversation about the future of leadership, the cohesive skills to foster to become a Rebuilder, and how to be an agent of change amidst challenges. Paul Shoemaker is the Founding President of Social Venture Partners International, a global network of thousands of social innovators, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and business and community leaders. Before that, he spent over a decade as a global thought leader at Microsoft, Nestle, and as a consultant. He has spoken at TEDx and United Nations events, and has written for the Stanford Social Innovation Review and Huffington Post. Doug Baldwin spent eight years in the NFL learning and unlearning identity. He is a believer in redemption. He was raised in Florida where he learned to survive, and attended Stanford where he learned curiosity. He is a proud husband and father. Mostly, he is a striving human aiming to serve. Former Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and organizer Shaun Scott discuss the anti-racist movement and whether it will result in lasting change. It's been just over a year since George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police, and the fallout continues to shape conversations and culture.   This time last year, the streets of Seattle — as in so many other cities across the nation — were filled with protesters calling for an end to racist policing. The anti-racist movement spread from there, hitting pretty much every institution in the country.  Promises of change flooded social media, coming from business leaders, nonprofit organizations, professional sports leagues and city leaders. But where are we now? That is a question  that former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and organizer Shaun Scott are actively contemplating and one that they discuss with Northwest Newsmakers host Monica Guzman for our latest episode of the Crosscut Talks episode. --- Credits Host: Mark Baumgarten Event producers: Jake Newman, Andrea O'Meara Engineers: Chi Lee, Resti Bagcal, Viktoria Ralph

Turning the corner from Sunday's 28-12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, @Seahawkscrazy on Twitter helps out by taking the blame for the loss this past week. Shaquille Griffin mentioned after the game that the Seahawks needed to be taken down from their high horse they'd been riding on. Considering Seattle was coming off wins over the 49ers, a tough Eagles defense and a Monday night win over the Vikings, maybe they were due for the first road loss of the season. But did it have to come against the Rams when there is a game against the Panthers that could have served the same purpose? Despite their 5-8 record, there is a lot of talent on the Carolina Panthers team considering Christian McCaffery was being talked about as an MVP candidate earlier on this season. Quarterback Kyle Allen has come back to Earth after a show he put on earlier this season. The Panthers have a couple future Hall of Fame players on their defense, but have one of the league's worst teams against the run and that should allow Seattle to help get back on track after struggling to put up points on the Rams. Before the season started, one question we had was who would be taking over the Doug Baldwin role as Russell Wilson's favorite third down target. In 2012 it was Sidney Rice, Golden Tate took over in 2013 and then the next four years belonged to Doug Baldwin. Tyler Lockett looked like he would move into that spot considering he had it last year when Baldwin was injured, but that has not been the direction Wilson has gone the most on third down this season. In the second half of the show we talk about a couple of the latest roster moves for the Seahawks, we take a look at the latest controversy the Patriots have stepped into and we talk about the All-Time NFL Top 100 list and how Walter Jones could have the best chance for any Seahawks player to make that list. The Seahawks were on a bye week this past week and hopefully it allowed some Seattle fans a needed break from having to reach for the heartburn or anxiety medication on gameday. There are many things that stand out as great and not-so-great from the 2019 season to this point. Russell Wilson's quest for his first MVP or All-Pro nod has been a highlight along with the breakout rookie season of D.K. Metcalf and the emergence of Tyler Lockett to fill in behind the departure of Doug Baldwin. Negative aspects of the season to this point has been the lack of pass rush and the inability to protect the football. There were some things to like in last Sunday's victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Russell Wilson notched is fourth "stat" of this season. He's never had more than four during the regular season in his career, so with the Seahawks going into a really touch stretch in their final seven weeks of the schedule, the expectation is that he should be able to reach his personal best.  There were also some things not to like about the last game. Jason Myers missed three kicks, the defense had a hard time stopping a quarterback who may be in his last year with the team, and Adam took issue with how the game was called in certain situations. Two guys you can't be mad at after this game were Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. In the win, Metcalf had the fourth best game of any Seahawks rookie receiver, behind only Brian Blades, Doug Baldwin and Steve Largent. There's still a chance for him to improve his position and continue to lead all NFL rookie receivers. Looking ahead to the matchup with the 49ers, Russell Wilson is facing one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL and a group of corners who are playing well against the pass. Considering how the 49ers have been playing, the guys address if this feels like a must-win game if Seattle wants to finish on top of the NFC West. Adam is still on travel and dialing in on the hotel phone and we get to hear of an encounter on Bourbon Street that led to Adam taking a bottle to the face. Brandan takes issue with an NFL Network graphic highlighting the MVP candidates. Better at life honors go out to a study that called out his least favorite NBA team and Brandan has a pro tip for Veteran's Day on Monday. Getting on-board with Darrell Henderson in the mid-first round of dynasty rookie drafts. Is Malcolm Brown this year's Spencer Ware?  Why Ezekiel Elliott should be the 1.01 in most fantasy football formats. Which oft-injured running back is more terrifying: Todd Gurley or Sony Michel?  Damien Harris has more upside in New England than Justice Hill has in Baltimore. Why James Conner could be a one-hit wonder.   Derrick Henry truthers are ready for a massive breakout this season. Kenyan Drake has real upside if the Dolphins are better than expected. Which athletic wide receiver is more fraudulent: DeVante Parker or Josh Doctson?  The case for drafting Dwayne Haskins in 2QB/superflex leagues. Why Miles Sanders is a better bet than David Montgomery this season and beyond. Ronald Jones is an ideal post-hype sleeper. Tarik Cohen's touches leaked away last season. Jaylen Samuels is the ultimate Swiss Army sleeper back. Marlon Mack is a safer back than Aaron Jones, which make Dexter Williams a strong buy. Tyler Lockett is destined to break out this season with Doug Baldwin gone. Mike Williams is a superior No. 2 WR breakout candidate to Christian Kirk. Marques Valdes-Scantling is going to be the No. 2 wide receiver in Green Bay. James Washington looks like one of the most overrated young wide receivers. N'Keal Harry is the No. 1 rookie wide receiver but shouldn't be drafted in rookie drafts. Will Fuller is a much better complimentary receiver than Devin Funchess. Parris Campbell will have a major role this season. How Kyler Murray can be a top-5 fantasy quarterback. Cooper Kupp is a massive stayaway. Jordan Howard is the ultimate inefficient compiler RB. Zach Ertz and George Kittle were unsustainable record-breaking tight end machines last season. Vance McDonald is a strong buy in all formats. Dalvin Cook will benefit from the Vikings' run-oriented tendencies. Mike Gesicki is a top sophomore sleeper tight end. Everything is pointing up for Mark Andrews. Why draft wide receiver in the first round. Nesby Glasgow, former Seattle Seahawks safety from 1988 to 1992 returns to the show and talks about his 14 year NFL career that came after a college career with the Washington Huskies and ended back in Seattle. As a 14 year NFL veteran who played until he was 35, we talk about the surprise of the offseason that Doug Baldwin is leaving the game at a relatively young age. We start the show by talking about his experience with the NFL draft and how an injury in the Senior Bowl dropped him down into the 8th round of the 1979 NFL Draft. With college players opting not to play in certain games leading up to the draft, Glasgow offers his perspective on the particular game he would be sure not to miss out on. Glasgow played for former Seahawks head coach Chuck Knox, who passed away last offseason, and he talks about how Knox was the greatest coach he played for and shares a story about how Coach Knox decided to celebrate after one of the team's big wins. He also shares a story about how the team got in the head of Bo Jackson in the final game of the 1988 season that earned the team its first AFC West Division title. Seattle went on to lose to the Bengals in the playoffs who represented the AFC in the Super Bowl that year against Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers. Concussions in the NFL continue to be a concern, and a particular concern to Glasgow who is now 62 years old, he says some recent changes to the offseason could actually be detrimental to current NFL players.  As we reach a middle point of the offseason, Glasgow talked about his preparation and how he feels it set him apart from others in the NFL. RotoUnderworld Radio Fantasy Football Podcast - Mind of Mansion, Ep 440: The Podfather Matt Kelley (@Fantasy_Mansion) and Graham Barfield (@GrahamBarfield) debate Josh Jacobs vs. Miles Sanders across all fantasy formats. Julian Edelman is a screaming value based on the Law of the Conservation of Targets. Todd Gurley's knee is officially a real problem. How high will Darrell Henderson's ADP soar in seasonal formats?  Better Rams RB stash: Malcolm Brown or John Kelly? Breshad Perriman is in rhythm with Jameis Winston early in camp! Ronald Jones is getting relentless mini-camp hype. Is there a better middle round tight end pick than OJ Howard? Mecole Hardman has the highest redraft ADP among rookie wide receivers. Time to stash Demarcus Robinson in dynasty leagues? Courtland Sutton vs. DaeSean Hamilton: Decoding the Denver WR target distribution. Royce Freeman vs. Phillip Lindsay:  Decoding the Denver RB touch distribution. Whose late breakout is more concerning: Parris Campbell or Hakeem Butler?  More overrated: Zach Ertz or George Kittle? Is Dallas Goedert a truly strong breakout candidate this season? Kahale Warring is a top sleeper tight end in this rookie class. Emanuel Hall going undrafted was a true shocker. Why Aaron Rodgers should be off-limits in seasonal leagues. Is Dexter Williams a real threat to Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams?  Is Jake Kumerow a real threat to Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Equanimeous St. Brown?  Ryquell Armstead is very, very intriguing. Are we sure Patrick Mahomes will outscore Deshaun Watson this season?  Riley Ridley enthusiasm is perplexing. Is Mitchell Trubisky the next Blake Bortles?  David Montgomery is a tackle-breaking machine. More likely: Allen Robinson bounce back or Anthony Miller breakout?  Keke Coutee is primed for a sophomore breakout. Tyler Lockett is explosive Doug Baldwin. Are we sleeping on David Moore?  Tevin Coleman is the only healthy running back in San Francisco and that matters. The 2019 season feels like it's just starting to kick off as the entire team gets together for their first week of organized team activities (OTAs). The status of Bobby Wagner's contract seemed to be the main concern as well as how he might handle the negotiations without the help of an agent. In the case of Wagner, it would seem like the negotiations should be relatively easy considering he's the top player in the entire NFL at his position. The biggest concern for the team going into this upcoming season seems to be at defensive line and Gerald McCoy sounds as though the Seahawks aren't on his list of teams to visit now that he's a free agent. Tampa Bay replaces him with the former Rams interior defender, and McCoy is going to Cleveland and Baltimore for visits. It does sound like the Seahawks are considering some other options to help with their pass rush, and one player is already on the team. With a shorter show this week, Adam calls out any graduation prior to high school and Brandan thanks a writer for the Athletic for pointing out an amazing factoid with regard to Doug Baldwin's personal life. The guys talk about what Baldwin meant for the Seahawks in his career and how he'll be missed for a little while, but Adam seems to think he's not gone for good. It could be that both Brandan and Adam are in Baldwin retirement denial. There was some good news, however, as Seahawks free agency appeared to start this week with Ziggy Ansah being signed to the team along with another veteran defensive lineman Al Woods. Ansah is a former Pro Bowl player who has fought through some injuries the past few seasons and let go by the Lions after suffering an injury during the season he played under the franchise tag. Seattle may have even found their new third string quarterback with Geno Smith coming in for a visit this week amidst reports that he is expected to sign with the team.
