THE °M WARMER SYSTEM is a portable blood and IV fluid warming system. °MEQU has developed an IV-blood warmer for emergency transfusions. It's a portable fluid warmer which warms up blood from cold to body temperature within seconds. The set-up time is less than 30 seconds, and the user-friendly design ensures that the °M Warmer System cannot be assembled incorrectly. Blood and other infusion fluids can be heated from 5°C to 37°C at flowrates up to 150 ml/min. One charged battery can heat up to 2 liters of cold fluids (5°C) or 4 liters of fluids at room temperature (21°C) to body temperature. The °M Warmer System has a compact design and weighs only 760 grams making it portable and ideal for prehospital use. The single-use warmer's small size (10cm x 5cm x 2cm) allows it to be attached to the patient close to the infusion site, using its integrated adhesive pad. This secures infusion site and reduces heat loss in the tubing. The °M Warmer System is approved for use in ambulances, helicopters and fixed wing air frames. Vicki Robins, the co-author of “Your Money or Your Life” has been one of the most influential visionaries of the Financial Independence movement. In the late 1960's, with the advice of the late Joe Dominguez, Vicki reached Financial Independence and together they began to teach their revolutionary methods all over the nation. Their workshops featured the famous 9 steps to reach Financial Independence and eventually, Vicki and Joe were approached to turn their teachings into the book that we know today, "Your Money or Your Life". The book went on to be wildly popular, encouraging people to fight against the weight of consumerism and become a New York Times bestseller. Vicki also made two appearances on the Oprah Show with Oprah declaring that the book "would change your life". More than 25 years later, Vicki has written an updated version of the book for a new generation of people on the path to Financial Independence. I'm so honored to have Vicki on the show to discuss: How Vicki met the late co-author Joe Dominguez and how they worked to create the Financial Independence movement How their book “Your Money or Your Life” came to fruition and became popular. Why Vicki set out to create an updated version of the book The importance of relationships and how they create community wealth Why “freeing your mind” is the cornerstone of Financial Independence The definition of the “Enough Point” How to calculate your life energy and true hourly wage What Vicki believes to be the most transformational steps of the 9 steps from the book How Vicki believes the new version of “Your Money or Your Life” will impact the world in this new age The bigger picture of systemic barriers in the United States that make achieving Financial Independence more difficult Other related blog posts/links mentioned in this episode: Life Energy Calculator How We Saved $169,000 in 2 Years With the Help of This Budgeting System Buy Your Money or Your Life  Check out my new personal website here. Episode NotesWhat an enlightening conversation with Vicki Prais. Having taken a commercial legal career path, my lens on  the human rights legal sphere is rather limited, however, it's such an important area as human rights impact us all at a personal level. So, I loved speaking with Vicki about her career path and various human rights issues - it was incredibly thought provoking.  Vicki Prais is a human rights lawyer, podcaster, writer and mentor. We chatted about everything from current and topical human rights issues impacting the world right now (including freedom of expression and bodily autonomy) to Vicki's podcast “The Passion Factor” which helps those navigating a career in human rights. It was so interesting to hear about Vicki's career in human rights and the impactful work she has been involved which is centred around dignity behind bars, torture prevention, prisoners' rights and prison reform. “London is my home but the world is my workplace” captures the spirit and international reach of Vicki's work so well, which has taken her working on a myriad of projects from Kosovo to Geneva. We dived into restrictions on freedom of speech and expression in the context of a report that Vicki is working on at the moment relating to creatives and academics in Belarus and how censorship is playing out at a wider global level. I was particularly curious to find out, via a human rights lens, the issues around the vaccine roll out and where rights to medical freedom and bodily autonomy sit amongst any attempt to make this mandatory. Finally, I love how Vicki explained that being a lawyer “plus” is what makes her Legally Different - a lawyer plus....a podcaster, mentor and writer. There certainly seems to be movement towards the “lawyer plus”, which I believe is healthy in order to grow beyond singular labels, and Vicki is such an inspiring example of this!In this episode we cover:-Vicki's path into law and a human rights careerComing from a family of lawyers and having a passion for individual civil libertiesVolunteering at a prison creche whilst at UniversityInternational experience in Geneva with human rights organisations helping the UNA masters in human rights and civil liberties.Qualifying as a solicitor and working in immigration and asylum lawCurrent legal career Going solo - 24 years in Vicki craved autonomy and decided to be her own boss in 2019 August and is now an independent human rights consultantKey areas – dignity behind bars, torture prevention, prisoners rights and prison reformCurrent work – ‘typical' day / week (although there's no such things as typical human rights)Current interesting  project – a report on ill treatment of creatives and academics in BelarusVicki's proudest work momentCurrent human rights issuesFreedom of speech / expression – Belarus and beyondIssues around the current pandemicVaccine roll out and the human rights stance on making it mandatoryNon-lawyer projects + passionsWriting a monthly column for Comment CentralVicki's podcast “The Passion Factor”Mentorship – supporting young professionalsPersonal Mental and emotional health when doing tough work focusing on human livesThe concept of “proper selfishness”What Vicki would tell her younger self if she could have a chat with her!Why Vicki is Legally DifferentCONTACT INFO + LINKSVicki's websiteVicki's TwitterVicki's LinkedInLegally Different:-Instagram:@legallydifferent Email: hello@legallydifferent.comThank you for tuning in!Lauren

This week's guest is Professor Vicki TenHakan, a college professor in management at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, a former business executive at Herman Miller and GE, a researcher of corporate longevity and the author of the excellent book; Lessons from Century Club Companies: Managing for Long-Term Success (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0984898603/88088026-20), a captivating book that details the lessons learned from companies that have endured for at least 100 years. Key Takeaways The similarities and differences in culture and corporate longevity in American and Japanese century club companies The 5 major management practices in both the United States and Japan's old companies Why it is important to take time to honor the past of the company while also embracing changes that are needed to prosper The prevalence of family-owned businesses in century club companies Understanding the role that strength in relationships play in stewarding businesses for over a century Learning that growth isn't everything in company longevity Why storytelling is key in century club companies and the development of the next generation leaders Standout Quotes “What I hoped to achieve was to uncover some management practices…that I would be able to not only share with my students to not only help them be more successful in their future careers but also for business leaders to be able to use.” - Vicki Tenhaken [3:35] “I saw what the lack of business success did to a community. I was really hoping that the future business leaders or current leaders would be able to benefit from some knowledge on these old companies on how they were able to survive and thrive through many economic disasters and other crisis over the decades and even the century.” - Vicki Tenhaken [4:08] “There's no formula for it. The one thing that I did find out when talking to many of these old companies is that they knew when they needed to change. They kept on top of what was going on in the external environment… They made sure everyone in their company had a role in staying in touch with customers, suppliers, or other business leaders in the community.” - Vicki Tenhaken [11:26] "The strength of relationships is what almost every century club company said helped them make it through the tough times. They all had stories of crisis that they went through and it was relationships whether with employees, business partners, or community that they said really made the difference in terms of how they were able to not just survive the various crisis but actually prosper in the long run." .” - Vicki Tenhaken [19:11] "In business as in life, relationships are what matter most." - Vicki Tenhaken [46:51] Episode Timeline [1:14] How Vicki became interested in corporate longevity [3:25] What Vicki hoped to achieve when embarking into research and what surprised her [6:12] The common management practices seen in old companies in both United States and Japan [10:26] What Vicki believes contributes to century club companies surviving for so long [13:41] Family-owned businesses role in companies that are over a hundred years old [17:41] The vital role that relationships play when stewarding a business for over one hundred years [21:09] Similarities in Japanese and American century club companies [24:04] Why some companies choose to not grow just for growth's sake [29:41] Storytelling and the development of the next generation leaders [37:20] How century club companies survive crisis [43:51] The accessibility of Vicki's database [46:07] Vicki's belief that relationships are what matter not only in business but in life itself For more episodes go to BusinessOfFamily.net (https://www.businessoffamily.net/) Sign up for The Business of Family Newsletter at https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter (https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter) Follow Mike on Twitter @MikeBoyd (https://twitter.com/MikeBoyd) If you feel it's appropriate, I'd so appreciate you taking 30 seconds to Leave a Review on iTunes (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1525326745), I receive a notification of each review. My guest today is Vicki Raport, one of the founding members of Quantum Retail Technology. Vicki was on the front lines of Quantum's sale. The story she has to tell is impressive and is a clean-cut example of how a company sale should happen. We discuss the journey Vicki and her partners took to build a successful business and how they kept a delicate balance between five (yes, five) founders. They pivoted the business from a SaaS to an Enterprise model, Vicki explained how they reached that decision and what it meant for the business as a whole. If your goal for your business is to build a lucrative company and then sell it, Vicki's story is inspirational and fascinated. You will learn about: Vicki's background and the career change that was the beginning of Quantum Retail Technology. How Vicki used skill sets to find the right people for her team. How Quantum Retail Technology pivoted into “deployable software.” The pros and cons of Enterprise software and what is it? What triggered the sale plans. How Vicki and her team planned for the company sale. The failed attempt to maximize the business. The importance of being intentional in business. The team's goals for the company sale. How to hire the right investment banking firm. Why the chosen buyer was a good fit. How Vicki and her team handled running the company during the sale negotiation. How Vicki's employees responded to the sale. What Vicki would have done differently. The importance of hiring the right lawyer. How to cope with emotional and mental drain during a sale. Today's show highlights some very interesting and useful points for any entrepreneur. Not only did Vicki Raport and her four partners build a well-respected and profitable business, but when they sold, they got the cleanest contract out of the deal. They got the terms they wanted and the company they sold to fulfilled each and every one. So what did Vicki do differently that helped her achieve such a desirable outcome? Intention Is Everything When Selling A Company Vicki attributes her success to great intention. She had intention in design, action, planning and execution. When she started her company, she knew she wanted to work in the market she was familiar with and so contacted a bunch of her old coworkers to see if anyone else was interested in developing a business. By drawing from five different founders, their business (Quantum Retail) was able to utilize multiple skill sets and strengths. It quickly became a successful industry giant whose clients, while not numerous, were mighty and well-known. As with most entrepreneurial endeavours, Quantum started out as a single-purpose business catering to one client's needs and then developed more of a portfolio as they gained more clients who had other needs in the same market. Vicki's story is a great example of capitalizing on what you know and building off of that until you are an indispensable service (or product) in your particular market niche.
