Where is the line between healthy gaming and unhealthy gaming? How much gaming is too much? And when does a gaming habit evolve into gaming addiction? These are some of the questions regarding screen time that I hear from many parents, and they highlight some of the ongoing challenges families face in raising children who can be responsible tech users and whose screen use and gaming doesn't interfere with their lives in a way that can be harmful or keep them stuck. So when I learned of the new book How to Raise a Healthy Gamer: End Power Struggles, Break Bad Screen Habits, and Transform Your Relationship with Your Kids by Dr. Alok Kanojia, I knew I wanted to invite him onto the show to talk about all things gaming with us. In this conversation, we talked about how we as parents can know whether our child is addicted to video games or not, why screen time limits and restricting gaming time are at odds with the goal of raising a healthy gamer, and how to shift to a holistic approach that considers overall well-being and goal-setting. We also talked about why children with ADHD are more susceptible to addictive behaviors surrounding gaming and how to raise healthy gamers from a young age. Dr. Alok Kanojia is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist specializing in the intersection of technology x mental health. Also known as ”Dr. K” to millions of people on the internet, Dr.Kanojia is the co-founder of Healthy Gamer, a mental health platform that serves the digital generation. He has inspired millions of people with online content while overseeing the mental health coaching of thousands of young people. He is widely regarded as the foremost expert on video game addiction and most prominent mental health authority for young people. When he's offline, he's usually traveling, gardening, or grilling with his family. Things you'll learn from this episode  How to determine if your child has a gaming addiction, and why it's important to trust your instincts Why screen time limits and carrot and stick approaches surrounding a child's gaming is at odds with the goal of raising a healthy gamer Why children with ADHD are more susceptible to addictive behaviors surrounding gaming The importance of engaging in open and non-judgmental communication with your child about their gaming habits and the impact it has on their life How to shift to a holistic approach that considers overall well-being and goal-setting Ideas for proactively creating healthy gaming habits with younger children learn more at https://tiltparenting.com/session365 Learn more about your ad choices. The Unapologetic Vixen Podcast: Owning Pleasure As A Black Woman

In this powerful episode of Owning Pleasure as a Black Woman, I dismantle one of the biggest lies we've been sold: that our worth equals our productivity. If you've ever felt guilty about resting, equated being busy with being valuable, or can't sit still without your brain creating a to-do list, this episode is for you. I explore the historical roots of productivity scripts in the Black community, reveal whose voices are really in your head when you call yourself "lazy," and expose what the productivity trap is actually costing you—your connection to your body, your authentic desires, and your relationships.Key Takeaways:● The Productivity Script Isn't Yours: Those voices calling you lazy are inherited survival scripts from generations who had to work twice as hard to survive. The "strong Black woman" mythology equating struggle with worth was a survival strategy, not your identity.● Your Worth ≠ Other People's Comfort: Productivity often becomes a way to avoid disappointing others through people-pleasing tendencies. Your rest isn't stealing from anyone—their discomfort with your boundaries is information, not instruction.● The Real Cost of the Productivity Lie: Constant busyness disconnects you from your body's signals, causes you to lose touch with your authentic desires, and prevents present-moment connections in your relationships. This Week's Action Plan:The Voice Detective Practice: Every time you feel guilty about resting, pause and ask "Whose voice is this really?" Write down the exact words and ask if you'd say this to someone you love. The Values Check: Before saying yes to anything, ask yourself: "Am I doing this because it aligns with my values, or because I'm afraid of someone's discomfort?"Body Wisdom Reset: Set three daily alarms. When they go off, ask your body "What do you need right now?" and give it one small thing it's asking for.Ready to Transform Your Relationship with Rest?Join Natasha's FREE 7-Day Self-Care Reset and go from feeling guilty about your needs to confidently putting yourself first without the shame. In a world that's never been more comfortable, why are so many people struggling?   This week, my guest is Dr. Alok Kanojia, medical doctor, psychiatrist and one the world's foremost authorities on mental health for the gaming community. He is known online as Dr K and is the co-founder of Healthy Gamer, a mental health platform that provides content and coaching to help young people take control of their wellbeing and he's also the author of the bestselling book: How to Raise a Healthy Gamer: End Power Struggles, Break Bad Screen Habits, and Transform Your Relationship with Your Kids.   One of the things I like the most about Alok is his competence and expertise in both western medical and eastern philosophies: he has both trained to be a monk in India and he has a Western medical degree and practices as a psychiatrist.   During our conversation, you will learn: Why comfort might be the greatest threat to our mental health and how the brain and mind “rust” without regular use How technology is rewiring our attention and what ‘doom-scrolling' is really doing to our brains Why our emotional regulation is weakening and how simple acts like taking the stairs can recondition the mind The difference between the brain and the mind and why understanding this could transform how we approach mental illness Why meditation isn't a one-size-fits-all and how finding the right technique for your brain can make all the difference The true meaning and essence of happiness The link between ancient wisdom and modern psychiatry, and why you may be the only person that is truly qualified to heal your mind. Ultimately, this episode is an invitation to not only think differently, but to live differently, as well. Alok reminds us that healing doesn't always require a prescription or a therapist, but it does require courage, awareness and a willingness to face discomfort.   Whether it's choosing to take the stairs, sitting in silence for five minutes or resisting the urge to reach for our phones, each of these seemingly small acts are actually powerful tools that can help us feel calm, connected and in control. What if the most painful moments of your life aren't random suffering, but sacred initiations designed to unlock deeper levels of spiritual maturity? In this episode, Raj and Alex explore the concept of "portals" - those intense transitional periods that feel like they'll never end, whether triggered by heartbreak, loss, or life-altering challenges. Unlike ordinary hardships, portals become transformational when you consciously choose to see them as opportunities for growth rather than just crisis. This shift in perspective transforms you from victim to initiate, moving you through the three ascending levels of spiritual development. What You'll Discover:• The Portal vs. Crisis Distinction - Why some people emerge from difficult times completely transformed while others remain stuck in victim consciousness, and how to consciously step into the portal experience• The Faith → Trust → Knowing Progression - The three distinct levels of spiritual initiation that portals are designed to activate, and how to recognize which level you're currently operating from• The Alchemy of Breakup Medicine - Why relationship endings might be the most potent transformation tool available, and the critical window of opportunity that determines whether you'll access its full healing power• The Art of Ritual During Chaos - Specific ceremonial practices for both releasing what's dying and designing what's being born, plus how to create sacred space even when your world is falling apart• The Hero's Journey Pattern in Personal Crisis - How every portal follows a predictable arc from descent into shadow to emergence as teacher, and why recognizing this pattern accelerates your transformation• Life's Curriculum of Surrender - The profound truth about why challenges keep showing up until you master specific spiritual lessons, and what happens when you finally stop resisting the initiationReady to Transform Your Relationship with Difficulty? This isn't just another conversation about getting through hard times - it's a masterclass in recognizing the sacred intelligence behind your struggles. If you've ever wondered why life keeps dealing you seemingly impossible cards, or if you're currently in the thick of a transition that feels endless, this episode will fundamentally shift how you relate to difficulty forever. Raj reveals why "God won't throw you to the wolves unless you have a wolf in you," and exactly how to access the gifts hidden inside your most challenging moments. As a result, we bottle it up, push it down, and try to ignore it. The cost of burying anger is emotional exhaustion and disconnection from ourselves.    In this episode, I share a different approach to anger – one that views it not as a liability but as a messenger.
