Send us Fan MailIn this episode, Heather and Vanessa put their opinions on the table and ask: Do we actually agree?Breakfast. Vitamin D. Detoxes. Coffee. Sunscreen. Raw milk. Parasite cleanses. Homeopathy. And even the idea that healing is supposed to be hard.We don't see everything the same way which is exactly what makes this conversation so interesting. We talk about why our beliefs around health need to be allowed to evolve, why what works for one person may not work for another, and why supplements, research, and outside advice can never completely replace learning to understand your own body.We also dive into the deeper side of healing: stress; emotions; spirituality; gratitude; trusting yourself; and recognizing that true health is about so much more than what you take.Because healing isn't one-size-fits-all. And you don't have to blindly follow someone else's rules to get healthier.
Welcome to the fifth episode of the Coach's Corner Series! In this Coach's Corner episode, I sit down with Coach Soraya to unpack one of the most misunderstood topics in wellness: detoxification. Soraya shares her own journey from years of over-exercising and chronic restriction to discovering that her body needed support, not more discipline, a shift that accelerated after becoming a mom. We break down what the lymphatic system actually does, why it doesn't have a built-in "pump" like the heart, and why simple daily habits like walking, deep breathing, and hydration matter more than expensive detox gadgets. We dig into common misconceptions, from detox teas to the "if you have a liver, you don't need a detox" myth, and talk about why foundational habits like sleep, nutrition, and stress management have to come first. Soraya introduces her "bucket" analogy for toxin load and the "clogged sink" visual for why adding more without addressing the drain doesn't work. We also walk through what a flush protocol actually involves, why clients often feel worse before they feel better, and how she coaches clients through that discomfort without white-knuckling the process. Finally, we cover simple, low-cost ways to support the lymphatic system daily, from dry brushing in the shower to gua sha and restorative movement. It's a candid, practical conversation about trusting your body instead of trying to out-supplement it. In this episode, I'm diving into the messy realities of modern life. Dealing with mean girl behavior and toxic workplace dynamics and deciding when it's time to move on to new opportunities. I also share the growing appeal of stepping away from social media for the sake of our mental health. What happens when we unplug? Is a social media detox really worth it? When does social media become too much? Plus, I discuss author Clancy Martin and his powerful book, 'How Not to Kill Yourself', exploring themes of mental health, resilience, and the difficult conversations we need to have more often. I also relate Martin's struggles to my own and find comfort in the fact he has experiences that are very similar to mine. I felt this fitting for the start of 'Men's Mental Health Awareness Month'. I'm dedicating this episode to any man who has been brave enough to say they need help, is currently struggling, is out of the trenches, or is staying in silence. You matter and I hope you know help is out there for you. Fan Mail HereSupport the show

Drew's story sounds less like a straight line and more like a lit fuse. Raised mostly in Utah, what started as early oxy use quickly escalated into heroin, methadone, benzos, and a life built around the chaos of selling drugs. But selling soon bled into something darker: robbing local heroin dealers at gunpoint, high-speed car chases, police raids, and eventually fleeing to California while living fully on the run.In California, the hustle only evolved. Pills moved online through Silk Road, bitcoin fortunes disappeared almost as fast as they came, ketamine entered the picture, and rapid detoxes became desperate attempts to outrun addiction without ever truly surrendering to recovery. Through all of it, Drew lived at full speed until a few serious injuries and and dark moments afterward finally forced him to confront what decades of chaos had cost him.Now sober since 2021, Drew has rebuilt his life from the ashes of addiction and violence. Today, he owns a men's mental health and substance use treatment center Sacred Journey, in San Diego and lives deeply rooted in a program of recovery. In this episode, Drew shares one of the wildest stories we've ever had on the podcast, but underneath the insanity is something even more powerful: proof that even the most self-destructive life can be rebuilt into one centered on purpose, service, and freedom.Connect with Sacred Journey Treatment Center on InstagramDM me on InstagramMessage me on FacebookListen AD FREE & workout with me on Patreon Connect with me on TikTokEmail me chasingheroine@gmail.comSee you next week!
Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Sienna: Hi Dr. Cabral - hoping you can help :) I have a brown spot below my left eye, on my cheek bone so not directly below. From what I have red it is a sun spot / "liver" spot... I tried to have it removed with laser - even deep penetration into my skin with acid it came back - interesting to me if the skin was lasered away! Do you have any suggestions on how to remove it / lighten it? I thought when I read "liver" spot it's linked to detoxification but I really do a lot in this space: quarterly detox, sauna, hydration etc... if it's pigmentation do I just live with it or are there ways to remove it for good - lighten / procedurally? Thanks :) Elly: Hi doctor Cabral, Could you help me understand the disconnect regarding HRT? To me, it feels like basic maintenance: you are supplementing bio-identical hormones the body is no longer producing, so that it can function optimally. It seems similar to taking Vitamin D for a deficiency. Is my way of thinking correct, or are there specific biological factors that make supplemental hormones riskier than natural ones? Why is there still such a strong association between HRT and cancer risk? Thanks so much for helping clear this up! Elly Audrey: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you for providing so much valuable information on everything health related. I don't know where me and my family would be without you! I have looked up some pub med studies on taking cbut want your expertise. First off should creatine be taken before or after a workout to get the most benefits? Also does taking creatine with caffeine blunt the benefit of creatine. Thanks! Kavita: Hello from Chicago, Dr. Cabral, I just wanted to reach out and say how much I appreciate your work. Since you invited people to contribute to your book, "The Rainbarrel Effect," I've been your biggest supporter. Your book completely changed my perspective on health and helped me understand my body in ways I never thought possible. I have a question about the GLP Tone system. I'm 55 years young with a healthy metabolism, and I'm active with regular workouts, walking, and strength training. However, my weight has stayed at 185 pounds, and I'm looking for ways to make progress. If I decide to try the GLP Tone system, which option do you think would be best for me? Also, will there be support from your team? Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! Regards, Kavita Tricia: Hi Dr Cabral, I've tried the quarterly detox multiple times. I get to about mid-afternoon on the first day and then fail. I'm sure with all the clients you've helped over the years you have had some that are just not able to get through the first two days of shakes only I feel like that sets me up for failure. If I was one of your clients, what would you recommend for me? Is it possible I'm just not metabolically ready to start with fasting days and hopefully as I heal overtime, I will become better at this? Thanks for any guidance. January often brings a wave of pressure around food — detoxes, restriction, and the idea that we need to “start over” after the holidays. But for busy families, especially in the middle of winter, that approach can feel exhausting, unrealistic, and disconnected from real life.In this episode, Andryanna is joined by Charmaine Broughton — cooking instructor, cookbook author of Delicious & Doable, and host of In Char's Kitchen — for a refreshing conversation about feeding your family well in January without diets, detoxes, or perfection.Together, they explore how to approach food in a way that feels nourishing, practical, and supportive during the winter months, especially for parents carrying the mental load of feeding everyone. They discuss:Why January food culture often feels disconnected from real family life; How to redefine “eating well” without restriction or all-or-nothing thinking; Practical ways to feed a family using pantry staples; How to reduce pressure and decision fatigue around meals;Lessons from raising kids and feeding a family through different life stages;Simple, gentle shifts parents can make without overhauling everything. This conversation offers reassurance, clarity, and practical support for anyone who wants to nourish their family in January — without burnout, shame, or unrealistic expectations.CONNECT WITH CHARMAINE:Get Char's recipes from the episode HERE!Char's cookbook: Delicious & Doable - Recipes for Real & Everyday LifeWebsiteOn InstagramCONNECT WITH ANDRYANNA:Download your FREE January Gentle Intentions Check-In HERE : An invitation to pause, listen, and support yourself where you are with this worksheet for rest, alignment & a softer start to 2026.Get your copy of The Juggle is Real: Authentic Self-Care Planner Vol. 2 HERE! Let me guess. It's a new year, and you're supposed to feel motivated. Excited. Ready for a fresh start. But instead? You just feel tired. Tired of being tired. Tired of trying. Tired of feeling like you're starting over AGAIN with your eating disorder recovery. Everywhere you look, you're being bombarded with "new year, new you" messages. Detoxes. Transformation challenges. Fresh starts. Clean slates. And if you're in ED recovery, you know exactly what that pressure feels like—and how triggering it is. Here's what I need you to hear: A calendar flipping to January 1st doesn't magically fix anything. But there IS one emotion that will actually get you out of ED hell. And it's probably not what you think. In this raw, no-BS episode, I'm getting provocative, confrontational, and real with you about the power of frustration—and why being absolutely sick and tired of yourself and your eating disorder might be the best thing that could happen to your recovery. This isn't your typical "be kind to yourself" recovery talk. This is me calling you out with love, getting you MAD, and helping you channel that anger into the fuel you need to actually change. In this episode, you'll discover: Why "new year, new you" is toxic garbage (especially in ED recovery) The ONE emotion that will actually get you out of ED hell (hint: it's frustration) Why feeling "sick of yourself" isn't weakness—it's readiness My personal story of how I had to get ANGRY with myself to finally stop playing games with recovery What your eating disorder has actually taken from you over the years (and how many more years you're going to let it take) 3 powerful action steps to channel your frustration: plate-throwing, journaling prompts, and the anger letter The raw, unfiltered reality of what recovery actually takes (no sugarcoating) Why you need to stop negotiating with your ED and start getting pissed off enough to do something different If you're done playing victim to your own story. If you're sick of half-assing your recovery. If you're ready to get FRUSTRATED enough to finally take action—this episode is for you. Let's go.

Why would you want to disconnect from your joy, when trying to restore your sense of joy?You can't go on a T-break for pleasure. Instead, focus on the modifying the way you get your pleasure, instead of eliminating the pleasure itself. Dopamine is just one neurotransmitter responsible for our sense of pleasure + joy. We can't and shouldn't want to detox our dopamine levels. Dopamine is essential to motivating us to do everything from moving our bodies, to sleeping properly. This is why people with dopamine issues, depression, ADHD, etc. often struggle with physical and executive functioning. The problem isn't the dopamine, it's typically the source. We need to discuss the Wellness Industry. Now, obviously, not everything considered “wellness” is bad or a scam. Meditation, Yoga, a typical spa day, etc. These are great and some people love them and the benefits of them. However, there are a lot of scams, frauds, and even outright dangerous trends floating around that I want to delve into. First, let's go back in time to find out when and how “snake oil” became synonymous with fraudulent medications and who some of the original “snake oil salesmen” were. Then we can look at some of today's most pushed diets and health fads that are either dangerous or just ineffective. We also need to check out the claims and realities behind the idea of detoxes and cleanses that have been marketed or promoted by influencers or celebrities. Also, the infamous coffee enema. Yeah, if you did not know that is a thing. This episode will also feature stories about Steve Jobs and his obsessive and restrictive diet as well as the functional medicine practitioner behind the carnivore diet and his colleague of sorts who had a large YouTube following and went by “Liver King,” before his secrets were discovered. Many of you have been sending me ideas for this sort of episode and because there is just so much to discuss with this topic, I am making it a 2 parter. So next week will be a breakdown on Goop and MLM's that push “health and wellness” products as well as some easy to obtain wellness beverages proving to be addictive and dangerous. In both of these episodes, we will be sharing some stories of influencers, gurus, authors, etc who have made a lot of money and hurt a lot of people by making false claims, outright lying, and pushing supplements, diets, and lifestyles that are dangerous to both one's health and bank account. We are all bombarded with quick-fix “solutions” whether it is from a doctor, dermatologist or an influencer online, and it's no wonder it feels confusing. One person is recommending a powder. Another is telling you to take ten different herbs. Then someone else is claiming you have to do a parasite cleanse before you can heal anything else. It's a lot. And it's really important to understand how these different cleanses, detoxes, and fads actually work (or don't work) so that you can make the most aligned and intentional choices for your body or your child's.So let's take a closer look at some of the most common tools people are talking about or being told to use. And until now, the only advice was to avoid them and hope for the best, since they can linger in your body for up to 30 years. But what if there was a way to fight back? What if the answer was hiding in plain sight? In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain on some everyday products that could be quietly contaminating your life. You'll discover the shocking truth about where these chemicals are hiding (spoiler: it's not just your nonstick pans), and the real risks they pose to your health.

Yovana is a Mexican-American wellness and healthy living content creator & in addition to sharing her life on social media, she focuses on self-love, self-discovery, and living a balanced life with her family. Today, Yovana joins us to discuss all things raw veganism, how it negatively affected her body, what she's learned about herself since incorporating animal protein into her diet, and how to deal with an internet scandal.
