New Year Greetings Glocal Citizens! As we usher in 2022 aka double deuces, this week's episode is all about mindset. We're going back into the Global Citizens archive for a compilation of mindset hacks from early guests of the podcast. In case you'e new to the podcast and not unlike some of my guests you might be wondering what is a mindset hack? Well, a description that I quite like is that mindset hacking is exploring the limits of what is possible, seeking excellence, or even balance which entails doing something exciting and meaningful, deliberately finding opportunities to be clever, problem solve and enjoy what you are doing. So with that in mind, this week you'll hear from: Cordie Aziz-Nash (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/3), she is the CEO and founder of Environment360 and has roots in Sierra Leone, Ghana and the US; Nigerian-American filmmaker and founder of Refined Creative based in Accra, Ghana, Emmanuel Etim (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/4); Ghanaian, musician and social entrepreneur, Leslie Bentil (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/6), he's the founder of Gutta Soles and the Gutta Soles Foundation; Nigerian pianist, music director, composer, and leader of Afrobeat band Ayetoro, Funsho Ogundipe (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/21); Ghanaian Amma Gyampo (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/7), Co-Founder of B2B Entrepreneurship Development firm, ScaleUp Africa; Also from Ghana, serial techpreneur and creative, Kwame Acheampong (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/23); Yogi and wellness-peneur, Nana Amoako-Anin (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/9), founder of Bliss Yoga Accra; and Valerie Labi (https://glocalcitizens.fireside.fm/10), a social innovator, business leader and mother who just last week welcomed her third bundle of joy. In 2012, then Home Secretary Theresa May announced the plan: "The aim is to create, here in Britain, a really hostile environment for illegal immigrants." The idea, borrowed from counterterrorism, was to make life so difficult for unwanted visitors that they would give up and go home. Instead, the hostile environment became a policy of systemic discrimination against all immigrants, authorised or not, their British families and any person that could be mistaken for an immigrant. And rather than leaving, many were pushed into illegality by changing rules, long waits and exorbitant fees. Colin Yeo, immigration lawyer, author of Welcome to Britain and founder of freemovement.org, explains how the policy came about and what it's meant for Britons, wannabe Britons and the country's own future. ★ Support this podcast ★

Graham also notes the new adcom Q&A with David Simpson, from London Business School and takes a moment to thank site users for submitting interview reports, a clear signal that interview season for Round 1 is (pretty much) over. Our hosts them move on to tackle the profiles of three ApplyWire entries. First up, we have a global citizen, who has made a very interesting career pivot into the food delivery business (think: UberEats, et al). Are their lack of current ECs an issue for the very top programs? Next, we have a Japanese-based candidate who looks to have done very well at work. Do they risk being too unidimensional, or can they also highlight other aspects of their candidacy? Finally, we have a US-based candidate from an over-represented population. Outstanding GPA, promotions at work, and decent GMAT might hint at top 16 programs, but is applying in Round 2 going to hurt them? A new GMAT might add a lot... This episode was recorded in Cornwall, England and Paris, France. It was produced by Dennis Crowley in glorious West Philadelphia. Today, I'm speaking with Andrew Henderson, the world's most sought-after expert on offshore tax planning, second passports, and global citizenship. As the Founder of Nomad Capitalist, he helps successful entrepreneurs and investors legally reduce their tax bill, create a Plan B, and grow their wealth globally. In this conversation, we talk all about why geography is no longer a limitation for investors who are willing to follow Andrew's advice to “go where you're treated best.” What does that mean exactly? Well, it's not only about reducing your taxes. While that's a part of it, it's also about choosing how you spend your hard-earned money, mitigating risks, and creating a backup plan that gives you and your family peace of mind. It's about diversifying, optimizing, and taking control over all aspects of your life, so you can experience true freedom. Don't worry, we dive deeper into all of this during our conversation. And to be clear, becoming a global citizen doesn't necessarily mean you have to live abroad. While it's certainly an option with many benefits, Andrew's strategies can help you take advantage of all the great things that are happening in the countries around you—regardless of where you decide to live. So, if you want to keep more of your own money, become a citizen of the world, and experience true freedom, don't miss my conversation with Andrew Henderson! Here's just some of the things we get into: Diversify your wealth by “planting flags” in different countries. Go where you're treated best—and it won't always be your home country. The psychological reasons most people are too afraid to move abroad. The goal and desire to have personal freedom and choice. What is Civil asset forfeiture? Why you need a Plan B residency more than ever. The benefits of owning real estate in foreign countries. Some of the best countries for residency and citizenship. Thoughts around cryptocurrency. The EKG Formula—enhance your freedom, keep more of your wealth, and grow what you have Solutions for those who choose to live in their home country. How to get citizenship for different countries. "Feed the world." "We are the world." "Be a light to the world." Every few years, it seems, a new celebrity benefit appears. Chock full of A-listers and inspirational tag lines, it promises to tackle any number of the world's large-scale problems, whether poverty, climate change, or disease prevention and eradication. From Live Aid in the 1980s to Bono's ONE Campaign of the early 2000s to the latest Global Citizen concerts, televised celebrity charity events, and their many associated NGOs, have enjoyed glowing media attention and a reputation as generally benign, even beloved, pieces of pop culture history. But behind the claims to end the world's ills lies a cynical network of funding and influence from predatory financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, multinationals like Coca-Cola and Cargill, soft-power organs like USAID, and private “philanthropic” arms like the Gates Foundation. This arrangement reached its high point at the turn of the 21st century and continues today, largely in response to outrage from anti-Pharma and anti-poverty activists from the global south and anti-globalization protesters in the 1990s. This Bono-Bill Gates-World Bank model has gained virtually unchallenged media coverage as the new face of slick, NGO "activism," in opposition to the unwieldy, anarchist-y and genuinely grassroots nature of the opposition it faced on America's television screens each time there was a G7 or WTO meeting. While this celebrity-NGO complex purports to reduce suffering in the Global South - almost always a monolithic and mysterious place called "Africa," to be more specific - suffering on a grand scale never meaningfully decreases. Rather, it adheres to a vague “We Must Do Something” form of liberal politics, identifying no perpetrators of or reasons for the world's ills other than an abstract sense of corruption or "inaction." Meanwhile, powerful Western interests, intellectual property regimes and corporate money - the primary drivers of global poverty - are not only ignored, but held up as the solution to the very problems they perpetuate. On this episode, we study the advent of the celebrity benefit and the attendant Bono-Bill Gates-Global Citizen model of "activism," examining the dangers inherent in this approach and asking why the media aren't more skeptical of these high-profile PR events that loudly announce, with bleeding hearts the existence of billions of victims but are, mysteriously, unable to name a single victimizer. Our guests are economic anthropologist Jason Hickel and Health Action International's Jaume Vidal.

It's that sense of curiosity, desire to connect and good will that make us seek out those we don't know and invite them to share our hearth. It's the cat that runs up to a house guest to smell his hand and rub against new legs. But we fear the stranger too as much as we wish for him. The cat hisses, scratches and hides under the sofa. You know that word – xenophobia. Will Buckingham explores what the stranger means to us and why philoxenia is worth cultivating. In this episode:
